THE GOLF STAFF

SHAWN COSTELLO,PGA

Director of Golf

Shawn comes to us from St. Andrews Country Club where he worked alongside the Southeast Florida PGA
President and Director of Golf, Paul Clivio.  Shawn is an accomplished professional having been the first
one in the PGA of America to successfully complete every advanced certification offered.  He also served as
the South Florida PGA Co-Chair of the Southeast Chapter Education Committee and is the current Awards
Chairman for the Southeast Florida PGA.Previously Shawn has held positions at The Old Course at Broken
Sound Club and was the Head Professional at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens prior to
pursuing career advancements.  While at BallenIsles, Shawn helped achieve the Association of Golf
Merchandiser’s Platinum Award and was awarded a top 10 “best of the best” Golf Shop in the Country for
private facilities.

Shawn is also a talented coach and instructor having spent many years learning from PGA Hall of Fame
Instructor Bob Toski and Shawn’s father who was the Director of Golf and Coach at Cornell University for
three decades.   Shawn oversaw the BallenIsles Golf Academy and has taught touring professionals
including World Golf Hall of Fame member Tom Kite and Champions Tour Player Joey Sindelar.

DAN PENDOLA, PGA

Head Golf Professional

Originally from Rhode Island, Dan has been a PGA member since 2014 and has spent most of his career
in New England and in the Naples, Florida area. He is PGA Certified, specializing in Golf Operations.
Dan is married to his wife Tiffany and they have two young children, McKenna and Nash. He started
playing golf at the age of 13 and was a single digit handicap by the age of 15. Dan turned Professional at
the age of 20 and worked most recently as the 1st Assistant Professional at Audubon Country Club in
Naples , Florida. He has worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Rhode
Island and Lake of Isles in Connecticut. He played Professionally in the State Open circuit throughout
New England and competed In the Nevada State Open in 2008.  He has learned under the tutelage of
some of the best instructors in the world, including  Hank Haney and Stan Utley.

PHILLIP GABES

1st Assistant Golf Professional

Phillip has been a member of the Boca Grove team since 2012. He was born in upstate New York, but
lived most of his life in Northwest Florida. Injury ended his college baseball career at which point he
turned his focus to golf. After graduating from Florida Atlantic University with a BBA in Finance in 2015, 
he decided to follow his passion in golf.  He is currently working toward his Class A PGA membership.
Phillip is TPI certified in Golf Fitness, and loves integrating that into his teaching. He loves teaching
juniors and seeing that "aha" moment in players of all skill levels. Phillip enjoys spending his time away
from the club with his fiance, Kali, and taking  their dog Sal to the beach.

HEATHER DUPREE

Retail Buyer/ Tournament Director

Heather Dupree joined Boca Grove in the summer of 2015. Previously she worked at Boca West Country
Club for ten years as the Golf Tournament Coordinator. Heather has a degree in Communications with
minors in Advertising and Graphic Design. When not in the golf department, you will find Heather working
with the Marketing and Membership team upstairs. Heather was born and raised in Palm Beach and is a
true-blue Florida native who has been playing the local courses since she was eight years old.  Outside of
Boca Grove you will find Heather spending time with her husband Michael and their two little girls, Isabella
and Emma.

Golf Rules
Set and approved by the Golf Committee
In order for all members and guests to enjoy their day on the course, please be mindful of the traditions of
golf, a game of courtesy and etiquette.  In addition, please familiarize yourself with the following rules
regarding play and the use and care of the course and practice facilities.  This will allow us to deliver a
premier experience and for everyone to enjoy their day.

General Rules
In order to track rounds played, we encourage all players to check in the Golf Shop prior to play.  This will
allow for increased member-staff interaction and for members to see the merchandise on display.  Should

time constraints not allow, we ask all players to check in with a member of the Outside Services team.

November – April: Monday: 11:00am - dusk

Tuesday – Friday: 8:00am – dusk
Saturday: 7:45am – dusk
Sunday: 8:00am - dusk

May – October: Monday:  Closed

GOLF RULES

Starting and Continuing Play
All play shall commence on the 1st tee, unless you receive prior approval of the Golf Professional Staff or directed

otherwise.  
Players and groups who stop for lunch, or for an extended period of time during a round, must surrender their position on

the course.  The player or group who stops for lunch must wait for an opening before resuming play.  

Dress Code & Acceptable Attire
Proper golf attire must be worn at all times while playing or practicing both on the golf course and practice facilities.  

a. Men – Acceptable Attire
i. Collared shirts and slacks or shorts are required

ii. Shorts with flat side pockets are permitted
iii. Cargo shorts with large, outward pockets are not permitted

iv. Shirts must be tucked in at all times
v. Long-sleeved turlenecks and long-sleeved mock turlenecks are permitted

vi. Shorts must be of Bermuda length
vii. Sneaker style golf shoes of a conservative style are acceptable

viii. Metal spikes are not permitted
ix. Fitness attire is not permitted
x. Hats must be worn with the brim facing forward
xi. Hats are only allowed inside the club in the locker room and shop.

b. Women – Acceptable Attire
i. Slacks or cropped pants

ii. Shorts, skorts or skirts no shorter than four inches above the knee
iii. Sleeveless tops must have a collar

iv. Tops with sleeves do not have to have a collar
v. Fitness attire is not permitted

vi. Halter or tank tops are not permitted

c. Juniors – Acceptable Attire
i. Juniors under the age of 12 may be permitted to wear tasteful athletic

clothing, not fitness attire.
ii. Shirts must be tucked in
iii. All shirts must have sleeves

GOLF RULES

Golf Carts
1. Only persons with a valid driver’s license are permitted to operate golf carts.
2. All players must use a golf cart when playing prior to 2:00pm. Walking is allowed after 2:00pm. Those
choosing to walk after 2:00pm, must use take careful consideration to invite players and groups behind them who

may be waiting to play through.
3. All golf carts must be kept a minimum of thirty (30) feet from all greens, except those designated for handicap

usage.
4. All private golf carts must be four wheeled, electric, and be white or beige in color.
5. All private golf carts must be in good working order and be presentable for use on the golf course or practice

facilities.
6. All private golf carts must have functioning head and tail lights.
7. The owner of each private golf cart must turn in respective personal liability insurance covering damage to Club
property or injury to persons resulting from the operation of the private cart on Club property. They must also
sign a release waiver agreeing the Club shall not be held responsible for any damage to the private cart or injury
to persons using said cart. Once this is completed, a sticker with the corresponding year will be allocated and

placed on the private cart displaying such has occurred.
a. Private carts not displaying these stickers by November 15 of the current year will not be allowed on the golf

course or practice facilities. You may rent a cart until such time as your insurance coverage is updated.
8. A member who does not own a golf cart will be responsible for paying a golf cart fee, even if they ride in

another member’s golf cart.
9. Any person requesting a blue handicap flag must present a valid state issued handicap permit or medical
certificate to the Professional Staff in order to be accommodated. A blue flag will be given to that individual which
will allow them to park no closer than fifteen (15) feet from any green or in a designated area for these carts.
10. A member who participates in a golf cart lease program offered through the club, must use the golf cart for

playing purposes only and must return the golf cart after each time they finish playing.

Guests
1. All Members are required to check in their guests in the Golf Shop prior to play.
2. Members are responsible for informing their guests of club policies and proper attire.
3. Guests are required to use the locker facilities for changing attire and shoes.
4. All charges, excluding golf shop merchandise, will be billed to the members’ account.
5. Guests are limited to twelve times per calendar year (excluding club events), irrespective of which member

brings the guest, and must be accompanied by the member at all times.
6. Family guests are defined as a parent, child, or grandchild of full golf members. All applicable charges will be

billed to the members’ account.
7. House guests must have a main residence outside of fifty (50) miles from Boca Grove Golf & Tennis Club and
must register with Boca Grove Golf & Tennis Club Administration. House guests not allowed to invite guests to

play and/or use the practice facilities and all applicable charges shall be billed to the sponsoring members’
account.

8. Unaccompanied guests may be requested with prior approval from the Professional Staff, and shall pay a
premium fee, inclusive of cart, of $125.00 per round. Nine-hole rounds do not receive a discount.

9. November – April: no guest play will be allowed prior to 9:30am unless approval has been given by the Golf
Professional Staff.
