Introduction

Self-control is the ability to regulate and alter responses in order
to avoid undesirable behaviors, increase desirable ones, and
achieve long-term goals. Research has shown that possessing
self-control can be important for health and well-being.

C ommon goals such as losing weight, exercising regularly, eating
healthy, giving up bad habits, and saving money are just a few
worthwhile ambitions that people believe require self-control.

How important is self-control in your day-to-day life? One 2011
survey found that 27 percent of respondents identified a lack of

willpower as the primary factor keeping them from reaching
their goals.

Whether your goal is to lose weight or earn school
achievements, it is easy to believe that achieving a goal is simply
a matter of controlling your behaviors. The majority of people

surveyed believe that self-control can be both learned and
strengthened. Researchers have also identified a number of
different factors and strategies that can help people improve

their self-control.

In one experiment, students who exhibited greater self-
discipline had better grades, higher test scores, and were more
likely to be admitted to a competitive academic program. The

benefits of self-control are not limited to academic
performance. One long-term health study found that people
who were rated as having high levels of self-control during
childhood continued to have high levels of physical and mental

health in adulthood.

Read to Lead

The novel is set during the roaring 20s in America, narrated
by Nick Carraway, a man from a well-to-do family just out of
fighting the war and looking to sell bonds. He moves to East
Egg, the slightly less grand area in comparison to West Egg,
right opposite Gatsby's mansion. Gatsby is rich, mega-rich,
and throws magnificent parties every weekend which the
whole town attend. However the host is never seen during
these parties, and is never completely known by any one
person. Gatsby holds a dark secret about his past and how
he became so great, a deep lust that will eventually lead to
his demise.

The Great Gatsby is in many ways similar to Romeo and
Juliet, yet I believe that it is so much more than just a love
story. It is also a reflection on the hollowness of a life of
leisure. Both stories are obsessed with controlling time: Juliet
wants to extend her present, as her future prospects with
Romeo are bleak and Gatsby wants to create a beautiful
future by restoring the past. This is what leads Gatsby to say
his most famous line "Can't change the past? Why, of course
you can." I could very much relate to this - there have been
many moments where I've wished that I could go back to the
past and just remain there, for it was a better place.

Innovation

Mazaam is an engaging and animated app
for children to develop their understanding
of music through a range of games and
levels. It is ideal for parents to work
alongside their child, play games with them,
and check their understanding. The audio is
excellent, the animations are exciting and
engaging, and the sharing collaborations
with parents or teachers is an excellent
opportunity. The games are full of fun and
colour, and students wouldn’t be able to
recognize that they are learning, as they
will be having a lot of fun!

Health Tips

Improve Sleep Quality and Quantity
Sleep is so important when it comes to health.
study points out that not getting enough of it
can lead to emotional and physical symptoms
and multiple disease processes, including
elevated blood pressure, heart disease, weight
gain, diabetes, anxiety or depression,
concentration difficulties. It's not just the
quantity of sleep that matters—it is the quality
of it—points out Keri Gans, MS, RDN, CDN.
"When well rested you may have more energy
for exercise, be more focused to make better
decisions, such as food choices, and be less
stressed." If sleep is difficult for you try to
disconnecting from your phone at least one hour
before bed, make sure your bedroom is cold, less
than 68 degrees, and dark.

Stay Safe

Wash your hands frequently

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based
hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-
based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and
anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid
droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you
are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-
19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once
contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or
mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you
sick.

School
Announcements

As far as the updates, we aren’t sure of the
reopening date of the school after the extension of
distance learning.

Despite the delay of learning at school, we are
very sure of an exceptional cooperation between
students, parents, and all the school staff. All
teachers are trying their level best to ensure that
our learning progresses without any difficulties and
that we are comfortable with all e-learning
platforms.

Besides, the platform- Microsoft Teams, is working
really well with students, as they have the
opportunity to conduct live sessions with teachers
and clarify any doubts they have.

Last but not the least, we really hope, our e-
learning goes on well without any problems to
face, and yes- Stay Home! Stay Safe!

For a noble cause

A BRAVE SYRIAN REMAINED IN WAR-TORN ALEPPO
TO CARE FOR ABANDONED CATS

Alaa Jaleel was risking his life every day with only one goal:
to provide those in need with food and shelter. Even when
most of his neighbors, family, and friends left the city, this
man chose to stay in Aleppo in order to care for their
abandoned pets. Today, Alaa looks after more than
a hundred felines, including a kitten brought by a little girl
whose family was forced to leave the country. "I promised
that girl to return the cat back to her when they come back,"
he says.

Cultures

Choose the flowers you give to a
Russian

If you have Russian business associates or friends, be
careful of the flowers you give them. Avoid flowers with
yellow colors as they represent a break-up of a
relationship or deceit.

Red carnations are taboo as well because these are
flowers presented to veterans who survived the war and
on the graves of those who have left this earth.

Always give an uneven number of flowers. Unless it is a
funeral, in that case you should bring even number of
flowers (that rule is for up to a dozen flowers, but most
people will follow it even if they give a big bouquet –
such as 51 roses for the 50th Birthday)
Give a lot of flowers. Russian people love flowers. You
cannot go wrong with too many flowers
