Perhaps the easiest to bring to mind in the

heat of the moment would be familiar words from

the end of the worship service, all drawn from
Scripture: “Go into the world in peace. Have

support the weak, help the suffering. Honor all

people. Love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the
power of the Holy Spirit.” And as you remember,
hear also the blessing that comes next: “May the

grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,

and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you,
now and forever.”

May our responses express Christ’s love and

build up the soul of our nation.

NNEMAP GROOMING KIT COLLECTION

Presbyterian Women United is again leading our congregation's participation in the annual

grooming kit collection requested by NNEMAP. WPC will be collecting and assembling completed kits

to give to NNEMAP clients during the upcoming season. We join other local churches in hopes of

together making up over 1,500 health-hygiene kits to be distributed.

Collection dates are four Sundays in September: 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th. Items needed for each kit:

Toothbrush Dental Floss Shampoo Bar Soap Wash Cloths

Toothpaste Deodorant Lotion Razors

Marked collection containers will be in the Narthex and Fellowship Hall. Two gallon ZipLoc bags

with labels attached may be taken, filled with all items listed, zipped closed and returned to the

containers. OR you can purchase several of one of the listed items, drop them in the container and

our youth will help us assemble completed kits.

Money donations are also welcome. Make your check payable to Worthington Presbyterian
Church with “NNEMAP Grooming Kits" in the memo line. Presbyterian Women will use the money to

purchase those items needed to complete kits. Our church has been participating in this collection for
many years. It is a great way to express personal “Thankfulness" by helping others in need. Please

return completed baggies to the Fellowship Hall.

At 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 1st, we will have a hymn sing in our Sanctuary with the choir and the
congregation of Worthington’s St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church. All are welcome! A
reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.

CROP HUNGER WALK – Saturday, October 8th!

Our congregation is invited to participate in the Worthington
CROP Walk on October 8th to STAMP OUT HUNGER, ONE STEP
AT A TIME. Our Junior and Senior High students will participate; we
need adult participation, too. Here's why:

"Ohio rates among the worst states when it comes to hunger
problems." (Columbus Dispatch, 9/3/2014). Here in Worthington,
1 in 4 children are recipients of free or reduced school lunches
during the academic year and during the summer are "food
insecure" - the technical term used to indicate that they don't know
where their next meal will come from (data from Worthington Resource Pantry).

You know that today there are hundreds of charity walks and runs every year, each one raising
awareness and dollars for an excellent cause....but you might not know that the CROP Hunger Walk is
"viewed by many as the granddaddy of charity walks" (Los Angeles Times, 10/26/2009), because the
first ever charity "walk" was held to raise money for hunger on October 17, 1969 in Bismarck, N.D. - a
thousand people walked and raised $25,000. to combat hunger!

Each of us in WPC knows what it feels like to be hungry---but every one of us can grab something
from the refrigerator, drive through McD's or Wendy's or even at this time of year hop over to Graeters
to satisfy our food 'needs'. However, most likely NONE of us know what it is like to have the empty,
gnawing feeling of long-term hunger and starvation.

What does 'CROP' stand for? How does the money raised from the CROP Hunger Walk help the
local hunger problem?....stay tuned for more information in next month's Tower Tidings. For now, just
mark your calendar for Saturday, October 8th - YOUR help is needed for OUR hungry Worthington
children and families.
