Our Teachers

The roots of a tree are very important for a tree to withstand the various changes. Likewise,
teachers in an institution are the roots who equip the students with quality education so that
the students face the outside world with confidence and a positive self-concept. True to this
the teachers of our college have transformed many student-teachers into professional
teachers. They mold and instill various skills of teaching and produce good teachers for the
society.

Reasons for
joining B.Ed. Programme

It has always being my passion to teach in schools.
Personally I was not in favor of taking home tuitions. I

have a strong feeling that children learn the best in
schools under a competent teacher. Though I had
teaching experience I wanted to understand the latest
trends and developments in the field of education. It is
possible only if I took up a course like B.Ed.i had a
vague idea that the couse will help me to learn about
the latest trends in teaching and also about how to use

the modern technology in teaching.

Age was not a factor.so at the age of 46 I gave the CET
for B.Ed and took admission in this esteemed

institution.this also gave me an opportunity to travel in
the local train as my residence was in Mulund and the

college is in Dombivili.

Thus I would say that I took up B.ed after so many
years so that I can continue with my passion to teach
and get exposure to the modern methods of teaching.

Learning

When a child is young, he/she learns many things through
observations. The child interacts with the people around. A child thus
learns many things. Learning happens through-out our life. There is
no end to learning.

Teachers play a major role in learning. Whatever we learn
should be useful to us. Learning is a continuous activity.

In the age-old tradition of Gurukulam learning happened
through listening and memorizing. The Vedas and Upanishads were
passed on through dialogues from one generation to other.
Nowadays, at a click of the mouse an individual can learn many skills
and also gain theoretical knowledge.

Role of a teacher

A teacher plays a major role in the life of a student. Students
consider their teachers as role models. Right from kinder garden a
child is influenced by a teacher. Teachers teach children to eat, to
develop good manners and habits, to gain good values and to be
well disciplined. Here the teacher is loved by all her students. Even
one harsh word from the teacher makes a bad impact on a student.
Also, a word of praise makes the child very bold and confident.

Thus, at this stage the teacher plays the role of a potter shaping
the personality of the child.

When the child reaches the primary class, the teacher has a
major responsibility of imparting knowledge to the child. Teacher
also nurtures the children similar to that of a gardener. Teacher,
gives personal attention to every student of the class. Thus, at the
primary level teacher plays a role of a care taker.

Once the child goes to secondary section a teacher has to
ensure that the child performs well in academics and other activities

of the school. From here-on the role of teacher becomes very
challenging.

With the changing trends the expectation from students is very
high from the teacher. In today’s scenario where education is
becoming a business, teachers are not given that respect. However,
a teacher should continue to impart knowledge to all her students.
A teacher should play the roles of a mentor, a facilitator, a friend, a
counsellor and sometimes even a healer to the students.

Even today we all remember our teachers from our schooldays
because they have truly inspired us in some way or the other. Thus,
teacher’s role is everlasting in the field of education.

Learner

Today’s learners are the future citizens of a country. They
should have the right attitude. During the early days of schooling
learners are very innocent. They are like a piece of clay that can be
moulded in whatever shape we want. Learners are very delicate at
this stage. They should be taught everything. Some learners may
have extraordinary grasping. They should be encouraged.

It is believed that a learner can grasp many things at the age of
six. So, almost all the students in primary sections do very well in
their studies. It is only later that they become dull. But such students
should be motivated. A learner can be attentive in class if the teaching
is interesting

According to educators there are various type of learners. Some
may learn through visuals, some are kinesthetic learners. Some learn
by hearing. Some learners like to study alone, while some other
children like to learn in groups. So, a teacher should cater to the
needs of all such different type of learners.

A learner should always be ready to experiment, should be
creative, should respect the teacher, should be an inspiration to the
peers, should know to relax, should have a goal in life and must have
a positive attitude towards life.

Duties and Responsibilities of Teachers

Teachers have major duties and responsibilities both inside and
outside school

Inside the school:

• On a daily basis a teacher should plan her lessons well
• Teacher should teach well
• Wherever possible a teacher should encourage students. She

should not be biased
• A teacher should identify if the student has any learning

difficulty
• Teacher should inculcate values like honesty, integrity, trust,

sincerity, punctuality in students
• Teacher should ensure that students are not getting overloaded

with academic work
• Time management is very important for a teacher and she

must complete her portions on time
• A teacher should give a patient hearing to any problem of the

child.

Outside the school

• Teacher should follow what she preaches.
• She should be a responsible citizen
• She should acknowledge students when they happen to see each

other outside
• She should try to address any social issues in an amicable way
• She should not use the name of the school for her personal

benefits.
Teachers thus shoulder a lot of
Responsibilities and Duties
on a day to day basis

Some Good and Bad experiences

of school education

I did my schooling from a Government school in Chennai. We
used to sit on planks. Classrooms were big. We used to take turns and
clean the classrooms with broom. It was a major responsibility to
keep the classroom clean. So right from a young age of 12 we knew
how to sweep and mop. We never felt that some work is below our
dignity.

During the school days, we had good experiences of taking part
in dance programs for all the annual days. The most memorable
experience was to perform on a grand stage during the Golden
Jubilee celebrations. A big stage was provided to us and we
performed dance program in front of almost 500 people. It was a
wonderful experience.

Standing first in the HSC Board exam (Std XII) was another
great experience. This was possible only due to the motivation given
by my Chemistry teacher. She was also my class teacher.

I got good education from school. I got a lot of opportunity to
take part in many extra-curricular activities. I took part in essay
writing and elocution competitions and won a few prizes. My friends
and I used to give regular dance performance during Annual Day. I
liked to play volleyball.

During one of the children’s day celebrations, we had planned
many events to be organized on the school ground. But due to an
accident in front of school we lost a student on the same day. So, all
the program had to be cancelled. We felt sad about it. But that was
the tribute to the student who met with the accident.

So, the experience of school education was wonderful.

Interaction with the Peer Group

As I was the school pupil leader, I had a lot of interaction with
peers. In-fact the whole school knew me. But I was not very close to
all of them. Most of the time I would be busy doing some work in
school. We always talked during lunch breaks. Going to school was
never stress-full. We all enjoyed in school. We were very fortunate
to have had a good and stress-free environment of learning during
our education in school.

Interaction with Teachers

My interactions with my teachers was very important as I had
to complete various tasks during school hours. I got the opportunity
to interact with both the Principal and Assistant Principal of the
school with regards to the various announcements. As a school pupil
leader, I was known to all the staff members in the school. I used to
maintain respect and reverence to all my teachers and staff members
in the school.

Consequences of that experience on Behavior

and life in general

My personality got built during my school days. I developed
qualities like leadership, time management, good discipline,
responsibility and dignity of labor.

I learnt that being compassionate is very important for a human
being by observing all my teachers in school. I also learnt that one
should efficiently complete a task. One should know to work in
groups with other students.

But above all this, the biggest learning I got from my schooling
“HUMILITY”. Being humble in all situations in life will lead to
success.

Rules, Regulation of school
about admission & evaluation

All schools should give admission to students
coming from a low economic status. Poor children
should be given admissions in private schools also. All
schools must follow the government policies and should
not be biased in admitting students from any sphere of
life.

Schools must conduct exams periodically. Report
cards should be sent to the parents. A systematic
pattern of conducting mid-term tests, term exams and
final exams must be followed. It should be ensured by
the school authorities that students are not detained at
the primary level. Evaluations must be unbiased.

Discipline in schools

Schools must ensure that all students follow certain rules and
regulations to maintain discipline.

• On an every-day basis, uniforms should be checked.
• Personal hygiene of the individual students should be stressed.
• Morning assemblies must be conducted on a daily basis.
• Value education classes also must happen on a daily basis.
• Students should be guided to maintain their classrooms in a

neat and tidy manner. If lockers are provided, they should be
taught to maintain the lockers in a nice manner.
• Students should stand in line wherever required.
• They should not run across the corridors.
• Silence should be maintained during the class hours.
• Care should be taken that students should not indulge in
malpractices.
• Strict action should be taken by the school authorities for
serious offences like drugs, ragging.
