Thoughts and
Ideas

at the End

In College during B.Ed.

Discipline

On a daily basis, prayers were conducted. Lectures
were conducted systematically. All the students were
expected to report on time to the college. Attendance was
made compulsory during lectures. Submission of files
and assignments were done at the allotted dates.

Regular presentations happened during prayers.
Late comers were charged fine in order to bring
discipline. Use of mobile for personal reasons was
prohibited in the college premises. All the important
days mentioned in the curriculum was organized in a
systematic manner.

Writing reflections after the end of the day in college was a very
unique way of bringing in discipline in a person.

Evaluation

Two terminal exams and one preliminary exam were conducted
regularly before every term exam. Apart from this, the student
teacher was evaluated for her behavior in college, theoretical work,
practical work and participation in extra curricular activities of the
college. Revision lectures were taken.

During one of the classes in my first internship when I
introduced the lesson of noise pollution through an activity all the
children were attentive. During the evaluation of the lesson all of
them were able to give right answers for the questions. I realized that
by conducting activities in class students learn very effectively.

In another instance where I used a ppt. presentation for my
mathematics lesson children were able to do sums mentally and
answer me during the evaluation.

All evaluation sessions that were conducted in Holy Angels
school during my second internship taught me that using crossword
puzzles, finding the missing word, worksheets, word games, quiz, a
game of passing the parcel and such other fun activities retain the
attention span of the students and helps them learn effortlessly.

During the fourth internship also the same evaluation
techniques (used consistently) helped the students grasp the concepts
very well. The oral test that was conducted made me realize that
evaluation can be stress free. A teacher can bring in innovations
while designing an oral test and make it interesting it for them.

From these experiences I understood the importance of
formative evaluation in school curriculum.

Do’s and Don’ts of teaching learning process

Do’s – Teachers must understand about the learner’s
requirements. Conduct group discussion, brain
storming session and use other co-operative and
collaborative techniques in the teaching learning
process. Teachers should motivate and encourage students to develop
good habits and manners and values. Teachers should set realistic
goals for both her herself and the students. Teacher should know the
play the role of a guide and counsellor. Teaching is a noble
profession. Keeping this in mind, a teacher should strive hard to
develop a personality of a student.

Don’ts – A teacher should not give physical
punishment to students. A teacher must maintain
confidentiality regarding any personal problem of a
student. Students should not be insulted in front of
other students. Teacher should not be biased. A teacher should not
be very emotionally involved with any student. A teacher should not
give negative comments about the head of the institution and her
colleagues to the students. Teacher should not shy away from the
duties allotted to her during school programs.

How teachers motivated me

During the B.Ed. course, all the student-teachers were always
motivated by the teachers. B.Ed. is a professional course and the
demands of a professional course are many. On a daily basis, apart
from attending lectures, the student-teachers were expected to
perform various tasks.

Sometimes we used to get both mentally and physically
exhausted. But we always received great support from our teachers.
They motivated us to conduct good lesson, prepare effective teaching
aids, accept feedback from them and other student teachers.

This constant motivation and support have
helped us evolve as a good teacher.

Creativity in College

A lot of opportunity was provided to express creativity of the
student-teachers. Creativity became a part of lesson plan, board
decorations, conducting games and organizing events. We started
thinking in divergent ways while a task was provided to us.

Every individual teacher was able to express the creativity in her
through her work. Duties were allotted to student -teachers based on
their level of creative expressions. Some were good in Rangoli, some
in board decorations, while some other in compering, PPT
presentations and some in music and dance. All these aspects
involved creativity. Freedom was given to the student-teacher to be
creative.

During the internship programs in all the three schools, I got the
opportunity to conduct group discussions, brain storming sessions,
role-plays, demonstrations etc. which brought out creative thinking.
For this I had to think of new ideas on how to enhance creativity in
my lessons. A lot of ideas popped up while preparing activity sheets
for all the constructivist lessons that were conducted during the
second and third internship programs.

So, the development was mutual

Teacher – Student interaction

During the B.Ed. course, all our teachers had very good
communication with us. During lectures, we were made to have
group discussions, do individual summarizations and give answers to
the questions. Our lecturers used to implement cooperative learning
strategy during lectures.

I ensured that a lot of questions are asked during the internship
period. Students were motivated to think and answer. Especially
during my second internship I asked a set of questions to the students
of standard 7 during the set induction phase. This became a habit
and students listened to the whole class with rapt attention

During feedback sessions in micro-teaching, my teachers in
college shared their views on how to improve on various skills of
teaching. Personal care was given to students while lesson plans were
prepared. Prompt communications was always given by our
Principal máam and orientations regarding various tasks were given
from time to time.

Thus, teacher-student interaction played a
predominant role in our B.Ed. course.

Teacher Personality

The B.Ed. training groomed the student teacher into efficient
teachers. The overall personality development was one of the main
objectives of the training. Various aspects of the personality like
confidence, communication, leadership, competency, public speaking
etc. were given importance.

Every student teacher was given a platform to speak on the mike
during various events. A teacher is expected to multi-task in the
modern times. She should be aware of the use of technology in the
class. She should have a pleasing personality. She should also know
how to conduct herself and present herself during important events
in schools.

B.Ed. training gives equal weightage to improve all these aspects
of the personality. A student teacher is also trained to make her class
very innovative.

Thus, at the end of the training a student teacher
becomes competent enough to fit into the
personality of a teacher.

Infrastructure of the College

Our college has a wonderful infrastructure. Classrooms are equipped with over-head projectors, black
boards, tables and chairs. A common room is used to conduct various competition. The seminar room
has stage and screens and technological facility like projectors, mikes, amplifiers to conduct all major
events. The seminar hall has a capacity of 150 people. Our college is in the 3rd floor of the main building.
We also have sports room where we play indoor sports. The library is very well maintained with books
related to B.Ed. curriculum. The methods room is equipped with charts and black boards. The science
lab is quite big and has many teaching aids. At the end of this year, the curriculum rule was inaugurated.
The aim was to exhibit the various teaching aids that are made in the different subjects offered in B.Ed.
course. Big function like annual day is celebrated in the auditorium located at the ground floor. Fresh
and good food is available at the canteen in the ground floor. There is also a playground where we play
outdoor games. In the compact office room, all administrative work is carried out. Our floor is equipped
with restrooms and drinking water facility.
