Mr. Tan Zhiyong, CEO of MCC Singapore, announces the final results of the competition
On 21 September 2021, “The Moon Rises, The Love Shares” Gala cum China Enterprises Association ‘Sing!’ Final Competition organised
by MCC Singapore was held successfully. MCC Singapore employees who were responsible for organising and executing the event arrived
early at the site to prepare for the gala.

Singapore Branch Cheng Jun also gave his speech and condolences. The event saw an impressive attendance of more than 600 viewers
consisting of employees and family members of Chinese enterprises in Singapore.
Since the pandemic outbreak in Singapore, employees who are working overseas have not been able to return home to their families for
almost two years. In order to express the homesickness as well as to show the spirit of employees of Chinese enterprises in Singapore, the
association has organised a month-long series of online cultural activities since 20 August, which included “CEA Sing!” organised by MCC
Singapore, “China and Singapore in Photos - Photography Competition”, “I Am a Little Painter - Children’s Painting Competition”, “Sports
War”, and “The Unforgettable Taste of Home - Online Culinary Competition”.
The “CEA Sing!” competition, which was hosted by MCC Singapore, attracted an overwhelming participation of more than 50 outstanding
contestants from various Chinese enterprises. Finally, after a difficult selection process by the judging panel, a total of 11 contestants were
selected for the final competition that would be held during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

OUR SINGAPORE SPIRIT WITH MCC SINGAPORE
BY PAULENE CHONG | HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
The National Day Parade (NDP) brings Singaporeans from different backgrounds and cultures together and unite them
as a whole, showcasing the spirit of “One People, One Nation, One Singapore”.

MCC MOMENT ISSUE 10 CORPORATE NEWS
This is MCC Singapore’s first time joining NDP 2021 Team as a sponsor in the celebration of Singapore’s 56th birthday. During the appreci-
ation session, Minister Ng Eng Heng mentioned that “it is the most challenging planning year of NDP after 55 years of organising”. The team
had to face the COVID-19 cluster outbreak revolving around the Jurong Fish Market. The uncertainty led Singapore to minimise celebrations
and gatherings, which affected the NDP event. However, the team behind NDP 2021 did not want to disappoint the citizens and their patriotic
spirit. With extra precautions and creativity, we had to bring this yearly event to life.
“We did it before, and we will do it again”. This is the lyrics to the NDP 2021 theme song, Road Ahead. The song wanted to encourage Singa-
poreans to count on one another in these challenging times. With this “can-do” attitude, we will overcome our challenges, no matter the odds
and constantly seek new heights. This determination, together with everyone’s efforts and contributions, has made us who we are today — a
great nation.
MCC Singapore is honoured to have joined the NDP Team and contributed to the celebration of Singapore’s birthday, building the Lion City
and making it a better place together.
In August 2021, MCC Singapore also sent out the limited edition NDP pack for staff involved in ONE SINGAPORE, ONE MCC activities.
The NDP pack was designed by green groups to make it durable and environmentally friendly, bringing across the message of Singapore’s
sustainability efforts.

MCC MOMENT ISSUE 10 CORPORATE NEWS
As the industry progresses, quality workmanship has become ever more important today. The high quality achieved in building
projects ensures future marketability and enhances the confidence of clients.
The Construction Quality Assessment System (CONQUAS), introduced in Singapore in 1989, serves as a standard assessment
system on the quality of building projects. A de facto national yardstick for the industry, CONQUAS has been periodically fine-tuned
to keep pace with changes in technology and quality demands of a more sophisticated population.
By using CONQUAS as a standardised method of quality assessment, developers can use the CONQUAS score to set targets
for contractors to achieve and also assess the quality of the finished building.
The assessment consists of three main components:
1. Structural Works,
2. Architectural Works
3. M&E Works
Each component is further divided into different items for assessment. The sum of the three components will give the CONQUAS
score for the project.
The building is assessed based primarily on workmanship standards through site inspection. The assessment is done through-
out the construction process for Structural and M&E Works and on the completed building for Architectural Works.
The assessment also includes tests on the materials and the functional performance of selected services and installation. These
tests help to safeguard the interest of building occupants concerning safety, comfort and aesthetic defects, which surface only
after some time.
Today, CONQUAS is widely recognised and also accepted internationally as a benchmarking tool for quality. Indeed, countries
like the UK and Hong Kong have successfully adapted CONQUAS to their construction industries. CONQUAS is now a regis-
tered trademark in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong SAR, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, and India.
For the construction and QAQC team of MCC Singapore, it is akin to seeing our efforts bear fruit when we were given the CON-
QUAS Star rating for the Queens Peak project, and we are glad that the hard work of our team is being recognised. Moving
forward, we are looking towards more such achievements in upcoming projects.

MCC Care Buddy Programme
BY JASMINE ANG | HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
As Singapore stays the course in its transition towards a COVID-19 resilient nation, more measures have been introduced, such as expanding
the Booster Vaccination Strategy and home recovery system to include more people. These are significant steps towards the new normal of
living with COVID-19.
As always, while keeping aligned with the government’s strategy, MCC Singapore also provides the necessary support for our employees
during this challenging period. Thus, the MCC Care buddy programme was implemented with the Top Management’s support, and the pro-
gramme’s main objective is to reach out to all employees as well as provide them with timely assistance, support, and advice.
29
MCC MOMENT ISSUE 10 CORPORATE ACTIVITY
The MCC Care buddy programme is designed for employees who are on the Home Recovery programme, those who have received High Risk
Warning issued by the Ministry of Health (MOH), and those who have been tested positive for COVID-19.
We function as a point of contact to check in with employees regularly and answer any questions that they might have. Besides providing
them with support virtually, we have also supported our employees by delivering our MCC Care Pack to them which includes essential items
such as grocery items, food, and medical items for them during their quarantine. Through this, we hope that employees will not feel isolated
or anxious by letting them know that they are well-supported by MCC Singapore.
While Singapore has made significant progress in the transition to living with COVID-19, there is still some way to go as everyone must be
socially responsible and observe all Safe Management Measures in order to lower transmission risks and slow down the increase in the
number of positive cases.
Should you have any enquiry, please feel free to Whatsapp message MCC Care Buddy at +65 9359 8257. Together we can overcome!

Complimentary Lunch for All Employees
BY CINDY TAN & KRYSTAL NG | ADMIN & CORP CULTURE DEPARTMENT
With the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Singapore, stabilisation measures were once again implemented in September and
October 2021. Amidst this situation, our company has provided complimentary lunch for the staff as part of our continued effort to reduce the
risk of community transmission among our employees. During this time, lunch was allowed to be partaken at individual workstations, provided
that the employees maintain a safe distance and avoid mingling.
We understood that this period would be a long one, and thus we devised new menus every week to cater to everyone. To meet the needs of
all the staff, we took into account halal, beef, and vegetarian options. In fact, the lunch was ordered from different vendors to diversify choices
and variations. Additionally, we reviewed the feedback from our staff and in turn adjust the orders based on these valuable suggestions, en-
suring that it remained a satisfactory experience for everyone.
The arrangement first starts with us requesting a new menu from the caterer before posting the survey every Monday. We then provide the
caterers with the consolidated data, and lunch will be delivered according to the order sheet. We would also order extra sets of lunch to pre-
pare for cases where employees might have forgotten to place their order when they returned to the office. In some cases, people would also
contact us directly when they forgot to place their order, and we would help them to add their orders manually.
31
MCC MOMENT ISSUE 10 CORPORATE ACTIVITY
We then derived the following data from this survey, compiling the data and ordering the food for our staff.
The caterer would be provided with the finalised data, as shown below:
32
MCC MOMENT ISSUE 10 CORPORATE ACTIVITY
Upon the arrival of the food at our office, WCEGA Tower #19-79, we made sure it was clearly labelled so that the company staff can easily find
their food. The lunch arrangement was usually handled by our admin staff who coordinates with the caterer and drivers to ensure the smooth
operation during lunch collection. The admin would also monitor the collection of the lunch by the staff while the lunch for the directors would
be delivered to their office.
In order for this arrangement to be carried out as smoothly as possible, we created a system in which staff members from the different de-
partments could have representatives collect their lunch at different times. This made the collection process much more clear and orderly.

For this lunch arrangement, the support team members have played a significant role. Our cleaners are the ones who helped to maintain the

are working hard at the various sites.
The following were the arrangements for drivers to deliver the lunch to the respective sites during the weekdays.
As staff who are at the sites also work on the weekends, the drivers were also needed to deliver the lunch to them on Saturdays. The following

to the provision of complimentary lunch during this period, and have also expressed their sincere appreciation for this arrangement. Many also
commended the Admin & Corp Culture Department’s hard work and sincere efforts in helping to coordinate these arrangements.
As some employees remarked, it is rare to see companies providing such welfare for their staff, and MCC Singapore’s continued effort to
provide lunch arrangements shows the company’s care for its employees, especially amidst this pandemic period. In fact, MCC Singapore
has always prioritised its employees and their welfare in the company’s operations, especially in these tough times.
To conclude, we are thankful to all the staff who were involved in these operations, as well as the cleaners and drivers who provided helpful
assistance. Thank you to all those who participated and made lunch a memorable experience for everyone. 34
