Welcome to the world of Cruise & Maritime Voyages
Since CMV launched in 2010 our ocean fleet has expanded to six ships with capacity now close to 130,000 passengers becoming, what we believe to be, Britain’s largest and leading independent cruise line.
Sailing from 15 UK and Irish ports aboard our fleet of small to mid-sized classic style ships, our scenic cruising holidays offer something for everyone. Whether your customers are looking to see the breath-taking fjords of Norway, the hidden treasures around the Baltic or a take that once in a lifetime Grand Round the World Voyage – CMV has it covered!
Our Trade partners have been key to CMV’s success so far and as our fleet grows you can play a big part in our future too. We look forward to working with you all and possibly welcoming you onboard soon and to quote Sir Francis Drake “It is not that life ashore is distasteful to me. But life at sea is better.”
Lisa Jacobs Head of Trade Sales & Groups
Columbus – flagship of the fleet
The impressive Columbus joined the Cruise & Maritime fleet in June 2017. This splendid medium-sized cruise ship enjoys a sterling reputation on the British cruise market and will offer the same traditional cruising style that CMV is known for. Combining spacious surroundings and friendly service with stylish entertainment and delicious cuisine, Columbus is the perfect choice for those looking for the ultimate experience and comfort. Offering a wide range of on-board experiences including seven different lounges and bars, two speciality coffee and tea shops, and two deck bars, this ship gives guests ample choice to tailor their leisure time around their preferences.
The Impressive Magellan
Magellan boasts a spacious interior, with wide corridors and expansive wooden deck areas providing comfortable surroundings for guests. However, the ship still provides an intimate atmosphere, with a huge range of leisure facilities, including bars and lounges, as well as multiple dining options. Highlights include its two high-quality restaurants, the Waldorf and the Kensington, the more relaxed Raffles Bistro, and an impressive array of whirlpools and swimming pools out on the deck.

The Voice of Travel in Scotland
PREPARE FOR CHANGE
There is nothing so constant as change. Nothing ever stays the same, even though you might think Brexit had been always around. However, even that scenario looks like it is moving on, so everything does change eventually. The problem with change nowadays is the speed with which it can happen and we need to prepare for it on a number of levels.
Climate change is the obvious one, which has particular relevance to
the travel trade. Flight shaming or Flygskam as it is known in Scandinavia, was initiated by Greta Thunberg’s soprano mother in Sweden a few years back and is now having an effect. Not yet a big effect, but it’s understandable that aviation is a particularly easy target for climate change activists and Scandinavia is responding to those flight shaming comments, with many travellers and companies reducing their flying carbon footprint.
It’s difficult to see how much it could eventually affect UK outbound tourism, especially with our weather patterns driving customers to sun destinations. Sometimes when new trends come
on the scene, they are a one hit wonder, but I don’t think this particular challenge on air travel is going to disappear anytime soon.
Change in mass tourist destinations is coming quickly and although
many tourists are put off by the overcrowding in well-known places like Iceland, Capri, Santorini, Dubrovnik, Angkor Wat and now even Majorca, with their 1,000 flight movements a day in high summer, it doesn’t stop a large percentage of travellers wanting to head to these places.
However, according to reports there are now over 100 destinations in 60 countries that are being threatened
by over-tourism, all being tackled in different ways. Whatever the outcome, it is the local residents or governments that have to decide what they want from tourism and plan accordingly, otherwise we will be destroying
the very reason why we visit these hotspots. As the headlines say, iconic destinations are being loved to death.
Travel agency change is also speeding up in the retail and corporate markets. A new order has now taken place
with the change of ownership of the Thomas Cook retail shops, TUI and Jet2 are consolidating their positions in the tour operating space and even further expansion is expected on both the high street agency network and
in the homeworker arena. Let’s hope the confidence currently circulating through the travel agency community is a lasting one.
Changes in legislation are likely to be speeded up for the aviation industry in the form of the current review
into airline insolvency, following the Monarch and Thomas Cook debacles, which is now seen as urgent but a bit like shutting the stable door when the horse has bolted. And in the package holiday areas, surely new rules of engagement are in the offing for ATOL cover, as it is now not fit for purpose because even if you were covered or not, repatriation was applied.
Technology and distribution changes go hand in hand and 2020 might be the year we actually see some traction in IATA’s NDC programme with airlines offering a wider mix of content and fares, even though it’s not going to be as transparent as claimed.
The only people who will know what the cheapest fare in any particular category on a flight will be the airline themselves, simply because of all the potential huge variety and complexity
of the NDC fares model. A challenge for the agent, but even more of a challenge for the consumer. With the help of technology and big funding, the big will get bigger and the small will need to innovate or consolidate to survive.
Political change is obviously the biggest, if not the speediest arena of change as the UK’s relationship with Europe, the USA and the rest of the world starts to unravel. Whichever direction it takes, the UK travel industry will have to adapt accordingly.
Scotland itself may be heading towards a different future in the next couple
of years, possibly being influenced by legal proceedings that may appear early in the New Year, in the court case involving the former SNP Leader Alex Salmond and further complicated
by whichever party is in power in Westminster.
Clearly though, through all of these, the most important and longest lasting change and where we as the travel community should be having a big say, is climate change and sustainability.
It is within our power to persuade destinations to make sure they protect their attractions and we in turn help customers find new places to enjoy, otherwise all the other changes noted above will be worth very little.
ken McLeod, President sPaa

NORTHERN LIGHTS HOLIDAYS
CRaiG MUssOn
CLIENT MANAGER, FINNAIR
I’ve just completed my 29th year working in the airline industry. I started in 1990 at British Midland on a YTS scheme fresh from school and I now can’t imagine being involved in any other industry.
Whilst at British Midland, someone told me - “you can’t fax a handshake” - for anyone born after 1990, replace ‘fax’ with email! This advice has been invaluable over my career and something I live by today.
My first 12 years in the industry were spent in customer service roles. Then in 2003, I joined United Airlines and moved into sales and account management. I have also worked for both Delta and American, then Qatar, before joining the Finnair family.
Í was drawn to Finnair for several reasons. First off the product; it really is one we can boast about. Our A350 sets high standards in both business and economy, not just in comfort, but with Nordic hospitality and food. Of course, I am biased, but with my years of airline experience, I know a good seat when I see one!
Secondly, the Finnair network. Finnair doesn’t just serve Finland - our
key focus is Asia. This is due to the strategic location of Helsinki, allowing our planes to take the quick Northern route to 19 Asian destinations. Not many people are aware that Finnair
are the largest European carrier to Japan with five destinations, as well as flying to six cities in China. We are also adding Busan in South Korea to go with Seoul.
Thirdly, as I researched the company, I was drawn to their core values. There is a commitment to care; for passengers, staff and the environment. It’s easy to write these words, but once you work for Finnair, you get to see all three are really acted upon - and it’s great to be a part of this company.
My work day starts around 7:30am.
I’m normally 3 cappuccino’s in by
now (instant coffee isn’t allowed in
our house, my wife is Italian, so no imitation) and ready for whatever email requests have come in overnight.
Finnair serves four UK airports: Edinburgh, Manchester, London Heathrow and Gatwick, so my Leicestershire location helps me to service our partners both north and south. I try to get to Scotland as often as possible. The SPAA events are all ring fenced in my diary - nothing takes priority over these. I love the Star nights as it gives me an opportunity to talk to agents about Finnair whose offices I haven’t visited. I do however, try and make as many branch visits as
possible around the SPAA calendar, when I will book 2 or 3 nights and fill my diary as much as I can.
It’s a great time to be working with the Scottish trade. Our Edinburgh to Helsinki flight goes from strength to strength, so much so that this is the first year we have operated a year round service and not just seasonal. This adds an extra 12,000 seats
to the market and underlines our commitment.
I feel so lucky to be in this industry as I’ve travelled to all four corners of the world, seeing some truly memorable places. One trip, about seven years ago will always stand out in my memory. We flew with Finnair to Rovaniemi
and whilst there, we got to see the Northern Lights and meet the real Santa Claus. He said that as I had been good all these years, I would get the gift I had always wanted. You know, he was right - her name is Tulip and she’s 6 years old!

NORTHERN LIGHTS HOLIDAYS
Port of Call:
HONNINGSVAG : NORWAY
By HiLaRY DOUGLas
Honningsvag is a major highlight port of call on any northern European and Norwegian Fjords cruise itinerary. It’s mainland Europe’s northernmost point, only 1,350 miles south of the North Pole itself, close to the Russian border and the jump off point to visit the North Cape Visitor Centre.
The first tourist arrived in Honningsvag in 1664 and visitors have been coming ever since. Tell your clients that a trip to the Nordkapp Visitor Centre should be their first choice of excursion from Honningsvag, with superb photo opportunities. Visitors can go into the Centre and enjoy the great video presentation and also walk to the iconic globe monument, set on the spectacular cliff top, where only the Svalbard Islands separate you from the North Pole for that unique selfie.
In the summer months, some cruise ships sail from the port late evening for some scenic cruising along the North Cape, with the aim of seeing the sun set and rise almost immediately, perpetuating the 24-hour daylight and land of the Midnight Sun. Alternatively, many cruise lines are now sending their ships there during the winter months with the express aim of seeing the famed Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) as this is the best time of year to hope- fully witness this magnificent natural phenomenon.
I travelled there as part of a Viking Midnight Sun cruise in the summer so got to experience the weird sensation of looking out to sea at 2am in bright daylight!
Over and above the North Cape itself, the small town of Honningsvåg (population 2,800), is well worth a visit. Highlights include the church - the only building left standing in the town at the end of World War 2 - some great shopping and Arctic dining experiences. Tell clients to check out the Perleporten Kulturhus (the local cultural centre), the Once Upon A Dream art gallery and the Artico Ice Bar. You can also pre-arrange for them to visit the Nordkapp Nano-Brewery where they can sample the local beer, which includes ‘interesting’ ingredients like cloud and crow berries, reindeer moss and even seaweed!
This area of Norway is known for its indigenous people, the Sami. With their colourful costumes and fascinating culture, your clients will get a real feel for the local
life. Traditionally, the Sámi have pursued a variety of livelihoods, including coastal fishing, fur trapping and sheep herding, but their best known means of livelihood is semi-nomadic reindeer herding.
Overall, Honningsvag is a really exciting port of call and certainly one to check off the ‘must do’ list!

NORTHERN LIGHTS HOLIDAYS
Magic in the Air
Iceland is the perfect place to witness the breathtaking Northern Lights dance across the sky.
The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, have captivated us over the centuries. Throughout history, humans in the wildernesses of the world, in the dark of night, have gazed up in wonder at the iridescent bands of green, red, yellow, pink, purple and white lights swirling around the sky.
The aurora often first appears as an arc, stretching from east to west across the sky. Later in the night, it may develop into rippling streamers, pulsating globes, a corona of rays that appear from a point high in the air, or as scattered patches of light. The fact that the aurora’s appearance can change so much within the course of a single night makes it all the more mesmerizing.
Iceland is one of the most magical destinations in which to track down the lights. Here, the official aurora-spotting season runs from October until March.
Why winter? It’s easiest to see the Northern Lights during the depths of winter because the nights are longer and the icy cold results in less water vapor clouding the skies. That said, the aurora has been observed as early as August and as late as April.
Icelandair offers direct flights to Iceland from the UK (Glasgow, London Heathrow, London Gatwick & Manchester) and Ireland (Dublin). But that’s not all - Icelandair has created its own Northern Lights plane named Hekla Aurora. You can even request to fly with it for a special occasion, although it cannot be guaranteed.
And remember, the darker the nights, the brighter the lights! When winter brings increased darkness to Iceland, it also brings increased chances to view the Northern Lights.

SMALL SHIP & RIVER CRUISES
Sailing the Rhine
with Viking River Cruises
By TOnY OGG, Bryton Travel Consultants
I have been lucky enough to
sample 5 nights of the 7-night Rhine Getaway Cruise on board Viking. This included the Basel to Amsterdam option, disembarking
in Cologne rather than going all the way through to Amsterdam. You can do the itinerary in reverse if that suits better.
I flew on the direct easyJet service from Edinburgh to Basel and was met on arrival in Basel by three Viking reps who were extremely helpful. I was quickly transferred in a minivan for one, to the fantastic Viking Vidar Longship where I was greeted by the cheery shore staff and checked in efficiently at the reception desk.
Viking Longship
My cabin was a lead-in Stateroom Category E, which I found to be absolutely fine for my needs. The window is about half height but
is still above water level and there was ample space for clothes. The bed is a hotel style double and the bathroom, although small, serves the purpose well. There is also a
TV, free Wi-Fi, telephone, safe, refrigerator, hair dryer and amp plus individual climate control.
All areas of the Longship are very bright, with lots of natural light from the floor to ceiling windows and the ship is extremely easy to negotiate. The Middle Deck has the reception and restaurant, the Upper Deck has the Lounge and Aquavit Terrace which is an indoor/outdoor café and the Sun Deck is on the top floor. There are cabins on all decks apart from the Sun Deck.
Breakfast is served from 6.00am to 11.00am and a continental breakfast is available in the Aquavit Terrace. Lunch is available from 12.30pm. Dinner is from 7.00pm. All drinks
are included with meals including champagne at breakfast.
Tips for onboard staff are added to your account and are approximately 12 euros per person per day, but you can take these off and tip as you feel fit.
Excursions
Every day there is a morning excursion included in the cost of the holiday. You get a ticket with your coach number on it and a member of ship staff is assigned to make sure you get on and off the bus without getting lost. All the
excursions were well organised, the local guides all spoke excellent English and were extremely know- ledgeable. Tips were not included, so we gave them on average, 1 to 2 euros each trip.
All of the staff, whether it was onboard or on the excursions, were more than helpful.
Places Visited
• The Black Forest from Breisach • Strasbourg from Kehl
• Heidelberg from Mannheim
• Cruise the Middle Rhine to
Koblenz followed by a visit to
Marksburg Castle • Cologne
My favourite place was Strasbourg, Notre Dame Cathedral and lots of little quaint streets to get lost in. I also loved passing all of the castles whilst cruising the Rhine.
Summary
The whole experience was amazing! I loved the places we visited and feel that there is something on these river cruises for everyone. Age wise, generally I would say it would suit passengers aged 40 plus.

SMALL SHIP & RIVER CRUISES
Master of Wine for Scenic Eclipse
Master of Wine, Keith Isaac, has been commissioned by Scenic to create a wine list representing the finest wines from around the world for the newly-launched Scenic Eclipse.
One of only 400 Master of Wine around the world, Keith Isaac worked with the Scenic team to create a wine list that not only offers the finest of quality but also appeals to the global traveller and complements the Scenic Eclipse experience.
The wine selection has been designed to reflect the regions through which Scenic Eclipse will travel, which includes a Cabernet Franc from Mendoza in Argentina when the ship is in Antarctica and a Syrah from Limarí in Chile to give a regional feel to the list. Champagnes include a 1er Cru from Lombard and a Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs from Autréau, as well as
the Palmes d’Or 2006 from Nicolas Feuillatte.
In addition, guests can choose from a Chairman’s Cellar List, a limited cellar list of the finest wines from
around the world. These are all personally selected by Keith
Isaac and Scenic Founder and Chairman, Glen Moroney and are available for guests to purchase.
Tailored style river cruising with Fred. Olsen
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has launched its 2020 river cruise programme, on board the 156-guest Brabant.
Jackie Martin, Sales and Marketing Director for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, comments: “2019 has been another successful year for Brabant – now well-established, in its second cruise season – and we are delighted that many more newcomers have decided to give a Fred. Olsen river cruise a try this year and that so many have returned again for a second cruise.
“We look forward to welcoming even more guests to experience our friendlier, tailored style of European river cruising in 2020, when we will be offering 26 itineraries, covering 43 ports of call, as well as introducing 10 maiden calls, across six different countries. We will also be taking in five brand new areas and visiting destinations rarely explored on a river cruise.”
New for Fred. Olsen in 2020 are maiden sailings into Luxembourg, taking in Grevenmacher
and Remich – where few other river ships venture – as well as scenic cruises of the Danube Delta, with other inaugural calls to: Trier and Nierstein, in Germany; Cetate, Galați and Dobreta-Turnu Severin, in Romania;
Donji Milanovac, in Serbia; Enkhuizen, in The Netherlands; and Vukovar, in Croatia.
Every Fred. Olsen river cruise will incorporate plenty of daytime scenic cruising, so that guests can enjoy some of Europe’s most fantastic scenery – with 14 areas of scheduled scenic cruising included across the itineraries.
Cruise the Saint Lawrence River
CroisiEurope will operate an exclusive cruise on the Saint Lawrence River, between Montreal and Saint-Pierre-Et-Miquelon onboard its new ocean ship, La Belle des Océans.
The 10-night sailings will operate between June and Sept- ember 2020 and follow in the footsteps of Jacques Cartier, with stopovers in Montreal, Quebec, Tadoussac, Baie-Comeau, Gaspé, Cap-aux-Meules and Saint-Pierre.
The seven-deck La Belle Des Océans will accommodate 124 passengers in 62 ocean-view suites, nine of which have private balconies. Onboard amenities include a swimming pool, two bars/lounges, a restaurant, an outside grill and grill- bar around the pool, fitness centre, salon and laundry service.
Prices for the new cruise start from £4,694 per person
to include all meals and drinks onboard, guided tours of Montreal, Old Quebec City and Saint Pierre, one-night’s hotel stay in Montreal and flight between Montreal and Saint Pierre at either the start or end of the cruise. International flights not included.

SMALL SHIP & RIVER CRUISES
CRYSTAL WINS THREE 2019 CONDÉ NAST TRAVELLER READERS’ CHOICE AWARDS
Crystal made history in the 2019 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards by taking top honours across every category that it was eligible for.
Crystal Cruises won Best Medium- Ship Cruise Line, Crystal Yacht Cruises won Best Small-Ship Cruise Line and Crystal River Cruises won Best River Cruise Line in the magazine’s annual awards. The Readers’ Choice Awards are the longest-running and most prestigious recognition of excellence in the travel industry. This year was their biggest travel awards ever - and their first in collaboration with their sister title in the USA – and they received a record-breaking number of responses from readers who rated their travel experiences around the world. This marks a record 26th year that Crystal has received top recognition in these celebrated awards.
Crystal’s award-winning portfolio comprises a variety of global travel experiences for those seeking all- inclusive luxury and warm, genuine service tailored to their personal preferences.
The company’s oceangoing ships, Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity, remain the most awarded luxury ships at sea, both having undergone extensive redesigns recently that enhanced their already elegant spaces considerably. The addition of new Seabreeze Penthouses and Penthouse Suites mean more butler-serviced accommodations, while elegant, globally inspired dining experiences and high-tech amenities make guests’ experience authentic and effortless. The redesigns also brought new entertainment to the ships, including the new production Crystal on Broadway: The Show through Crystal’s partnership with Broadway producer Kevin McCollum and a new Stardust Supper Club aboard Crystal Serenity.
Crystal River Cruises will boast the youngest fleet on Europe’s rivers in 2020, with four new ships sailing the Danube, Rhine, Main and Moselle rivers. The 106-guest ships are enclaves of elegance for itineraries that celebrate the romance, creativity and rich heritage of the destinations. All-suite ships offering butler service for every suite, showcase Michelin-inspired cuisine, fine wines, stylish spaces
and open decks, while hundreds of inclusive, curated experiences ashore cater to travellers’ individual tastes.
Crystal Yacht Cruises’ Crystal Esprit is a distinctly exclusive destination unto itself. The 62-guest yacht offers the exceptional calibre of cuisine, service and elegant suites for which Crystal
is known, in an intimate atmosphere that mirrors that of a private yacht.
On itineraries through the Seychelles, Adriatic and Arabian Peninsula, Crystal Esprit explores marquee destinations, as well as lesser visited locales that larger vessels cannot access.
The yacht’s private marina is equipped for all manner of water adventures, complete with kayaks, paddle boards, snorkelling and scuba gear and even
a private submersible for deep-water exploration.
Crystal’s acclaimed portfolio has also grown to include the launch of Crystal Expedition Cruises and its new ship, Crystal Endeavor debuting in August of 2020. The German-built, Polar Class (PC6) expedition ship will accommodate just 200 guests in traditional Crystal fashion - all-suite accommodations, an array of world-class dining options including Nobu Matsuhisa’s Umi Uma & Sushi Bar, spacious and stylish public areas, full-service salon, spa and fitness centre – with additional state- of-the-art technology and equipment for exploring polar regions and remote subtropics.
Throughout its brand expansion that began in 2015, Crystal’s expressed commitment to an unwavering standard of luxurious service and excellence has been the core of the company’s philosophy. This dedication continues to resonate with discerning luxury travellers across the globe, consistently earning Crystal top accolades.

Tulip Time cruise with
AmaWaterways
AmaWaterways’ 2021 programme features a new state-of-the-art ship, four new itineraries and new pre- and post-cruise land programmes.
Launching 16th March, 2021, the new 156-passenger AmaLucia will sail a series of Tulip Time cruises in the Netherlands and Belgium, before setting sail on the Danube, Rhine, Main and Moselle rivers.
As sister ship to AmaSiena (2020), she will feature signature twin balconies, connecting staterooms and a choice of restaurants, including The Chef’s Table.
In response to the growing demand for more French itineraries, AmaWaterways has also announced the repositioning of three ships – besides the AmaKristina moving to the Rhône - AmaDante will join AmaLyra on the Seine and AmaCello will sail a new itinerary on both the Rhône and Saône rivers. AmaBella and AmaVerde will rejoin AmaWaterways’ European fleet sailing the Dutch & Belgian Waterways and the Danube.
‘TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’ - presented by Viking Cruises
Viking Cruises is the sponsor of the London leg of the ‘TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’ world tour, now showing at the Saatchi Gallery in London.
It will be the first time that 60 of the 150 original artefacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb will be seen in the UK on their first journey outside of Egypt and guests travelling with Viking through to April 2020, may opt for the new five-day ‘King Tut & the UK’s Egyptian Collections’ extension, with ’Privileged Access to archives and exhibits in London and Oxford.
This tour allows passengers to retrace the steps of Howard Carter and his benefactor, the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, incl- uding a visit to Oxford University; a private, early morning visit to the British Museum; and an opportunity to visit Highclere Castle to view the Earl of Carnarvon’s private collection of Egyptian artefacts as well as a visit to the exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.
Egypt is a popular destination for Viking guests from the UK and in September 2020, the cruise company will launch a new ship on the Nile River, the Viking Osiris as well as expand its Egypt programme. Accommodating 82 passengers in 41 staterooms, the Viking Osiris will feature the Scandinavian design for which Viking is known and will join the Viking Ra, which launched in 2018. Viking is the first company to build, own and operate ships on the Nile.
Viking’s ‘Pharaohs & Pyramids’ itinerary sails between Luxor and Aswan. Guests follow in the wake of Pharaohs along
the banks of the Nile River as Viking’s expert Egyptologists provide insights into one of history’s greatest civilisations. The itinerary includes Cairo, with a visit to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities and a trip to the Giza Plateau to view the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaur.
In Luxor, guests visit the Valley of the Kings, where ancient Pharaohs were entombed deep in the hillsides and the Valley of the Queens, the resting place
of Pharaohs’ wives. Viking also
offers ‘Privileged Access’ to the tomb of Queen Nefertari, an exquisitely preserved tomb only a few visitors have the chance to see.
Wendy Atkin-Smith, Managing Director of Viking Cruises
UK, said: “At Viking Cruises, we are destination focused and dedicated to offering immersive and culturally enriching experiences to all our guests.
“We are passionate about connecting cultures all around the world, so we are thrilled to be supporting the London leg of the ‘TUTANKHAMUN: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh’ tour and to be part of the centenary celebrations.”

SMALL SHIP & RIVER CRUISES
Scenic Amber with the WOW Factor!
FaM TRiP ReVieW
by GLenDa BenneTT, Stewart Travel
I was absolutely delighted when I got the chance to go on a three-night River Cruise along the Danube with Scenic. River Cruising is something I have been keen to try, but I did have some doubts. I have done a few ocean cruises in the past, but this was a completely new experience for me.
Day 1
On arrival in sunny Budapest, I was met and transferred to the dock alongside Scenic Amber where a member of staff was immediately on hand to carry my luggage onboard. Check-in was really quick and within 10 minutes, I was in my cabin and my luggage delivered. Very impressive!
Our group arranged to meet for pre- dinner drinks in the bar. William Young was our host for the trip, so it took no time at all for everyone to feel relaxed and ready for the few days ahead.
During this time, the staff, including the Captain, were introduced to the passengers and the Chef gave a talk on his menu for the night. A delicious dinner was served followed by some local entertainment which included Hungarian Dancers. By the end of the night, any doubts I had were thrown overboard and I was smitten!
Day 2
After breakfast we were off on a Guided City Tour of Budapest (part of Scenic Free Choice Excursions). We toured both Buda & Pest, stopping for a walk around the Castle and Heroes Square, followed by a piano concert. We returned to the ship for lunch, before setting sail along the Danube towards Vienna. This is where it is completely different to ocean cruising as you get to see the countryside and landmarks along the way. You can also work out in the gym, read a book in the lounge or sit on the top deck enjoying the sun, watching the world go by.
Day 3
William hosted a training session in a Royal Owners Suite covering all things Scenic and Emerald which was very informative.
l
afternoon, we visited the Palais
Liechtenstein for a private Viennese concert which was a wonderful experience (part of Scenic Enrich).
Day 4
Due to our flight times, we were unable to join the Guided Biking Tour of Vienna, however we were able to take the bikes out along the riverside for a little fun.
Summary
• Scenic more than deserve 5*. Staff are so happy and cannot do enough for you.
• The Scenic Tailormade App is a great tool to use whilst on and off the ship and very informative.
• Butler Service in all cabins - level of service depending on which grade of cabin.
• All-inclusive covers drinks, excursions and gratuities.
• Very high standard throughout but also very relaxed - a great atmosphere.
Best fam trip ever with a great group of agents! A huge thank you to everyone.

Small ship cruising on board
G Expedition
When it comes to cruising, bigger isn’t always better.
G Adventures offers incredible trips to the polar regions aboard their G Expedition which, hosting just 134 passengers, offers the very best in small- ship adventures, with the ability to visit harder to reach places larger vessels cannot.
Known as ‘the floating classroom’, the G Expedition also hosts a team of Expedition specialists, ranging from marine biologists and conservationists to ornithologists and photographers. From trekking
in the Norwegian Fjords, to spotting the infamous polar bear in the Arctic, travellers aboard the G Expedition will enjoy daily excursions, both on land and on the ship’s fleet of zodiacs before heading back on board for educational lectures and a debriefing from the team of experts.
Those seeking a once in a lifetime adventure can journey across the Drake Passage to the most southern part of the world - the Antarctic Circle. With a choice of trips visiting the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands ranging from 11 to 14 days, travellers will journey from Ushuai for an adventure packed with wildlife spotting, including orcas, humpback whales, leopard seals, albatross, Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie penguins.
For a longer wildlife expedition, the 22-day Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctica trip, endorsed by world-renowned primatologist Jane Goodall, offers the opportunity to explore the biodiversity and breathtaking landscapes of these three regions.

New partnership for Hebridean Island Cruises
Hebridean Island Cruises has become an associate member of CLIA, with the aim of increasing brand awareness with the travel trade.
Hebridean Islands Cruises operates the five-star luxury cruise ship, Hebridean Princess, which carries just 50 guests in 30 individually designed cabins, around the British Isles, Norway and France.
The company also offers a European river cruise programme on board Royal Crown, a 1930’s style river ship which sails on the Dutch and Belgian Waterways, as well as the Rhine, Danube, Main and Moselle rivers.
The cruise line plans to launch its online training module to over 4,000 CLIA travel agents, with various incentives to encourage agents to complete the training.
Hebridean Island Cruises’ managing director, Ken Charleson, commented: “Hebridean Island Cruises is always looking for ways to increase the number of travel agents who are aware of our luxury brand.
“Our online training module is a fantastic way for us to be able to work closer with agents so they can have a greater understanding of our brand and offerings. We look forward to developing our partnership with CLIA and its travel agent members over the next year and beyond.”

Currently under construction in Louisiana, the American Countess will officially

Represented in the UK by Light Blue Travel, UK trade commissionable bookings are now being taken (package or cruise only). Lead-in prices start from £3,495pp
for the American Countess Lower Mississippi cruise, including two pre-cruise hotel nights, 7-nights’ on board, with all meals and unlimited beverage package included, port charges, private transfers, gratuities, shore excursions in every port and flights from the UK.
