Winter wonderland with Loganair
Qatar Airways - entertainment like never before

A Midsummer’s Dream?
Midsummer should evoke thoughts of blue skies, long sunny days and barbecues - remember last year?
However, that’s now a distant memory - so far this summer has been very dreich - which isn’t such a bad thing for our industry! Hopefully, all this wet weather is driving customers through your door, looking for some summer deals.
If clients want to escape to warmer climes, why not suggest the Far East/ Asia or the Middle East, which all offer great accommodation and plenty of family attractions. On the other hand, if customers want to get away from it all, not only the weather but their family and friends too, our Focus on Solo Holidays reveals that they are not alone... There are plenty of like minded people who prefer to travel on their own to discover and explore new destinations.
Sometimes, it’s a good thing that in Britain, we can’t always rely on the weather!

the Voice of travel in Scotland
tHe WorLD IS A CroWDeD pLACe
the subjects of climate change and sustainability are never too far away from the news these days whether it relates to the travel business or in the general media. the Scottish Government has even used it
as an excuse to cancel any reduction in ApD, or ADt as it is known in Scotland, which was in their original manifesto. this is little more than political manoeuvring because they were using different reasons only a year ago as to why they couldn’t lead the way in the uk.
However, we are so fixated on our
own travellers causing damage to
the environment whether over tourism or carbon emissions, that we sometimes forget that the two most populated countries in the world, have barely started creating their own travel “bucket lists” and this will have a major effect on not just
the sustainability of destinations, but also affect where our own customers travel to in the future. The recent iconic picture of a queue of over 200 climbers at the summit of Everest, was a stark reminder of how quickly destinations, even those at the top of the world, are becoming saturated.
In the year 2000, China estimated 10.5 million outbound trips were completed. That number is likely to reach 160 million in 2020 and by some estimates perhaps as much as 400 million by 2030. Even
a dramatic percentage increase by the rest of the world put together, couldn’t match this surge in tourism. In China only around 7% of residents have a passport, as opposed to 75% of European residents,
so it is easy to see the challenges ahead.
In India, their outbound traffic is less dramatic, but even a recorded 7% increase each year is based on the second large populace in the world, although a large percentage of their journey’s tend to be related to visiting friends and families.
Years ago everyone used to have a bucket list, when it was merely a handwritten list of places we’d like to see, then it became the need to have a selfie posted on Facebook in favourite destinations - now we have become the Instagram society where we have to have a tick list to try and outdo others with even better and more outlandish pictures of us set against a well-known backdrop.
Even the destination has become second to the person in the photo. It’s noticeable, the changing habit of travellers to just “click and move on” and not put down the camera or iphone to just enjoy the wonder of the moment.
The trouble with sustainability is that
you need control over the impact and
in tourism terms, that is going to mean further restrictions to the numbers of travellers visiting an increasing number of iconic destinations that we currently take for granted.
It’s difficult to see how our grandchildren are going to enjoy the sights we have seen, when the travel habits of two of the most populated countries in the world mature in the same way as those in the UK and Europe.
Securing a visit at one of these desti- nations may take years of planning and the photo of the queue at the top of Everest is another warning shot across our bows, that tourism is heading for fundamental change.

Discover the street life of Doha
For an authentic taste of Doha, a stroll down the alleys of Souq Waqif reveals a maze of small shops offering a wide range of Middle Eastern wares, from spices and seasonal delicacies such as fresh dates and nuts, to perfumes, jewellery, clothing, crafts and souvenir bargains.
Along with a visitor centre, the market features a great choice of restaurants and cafes ideal to sample traditional Qatari food as well as regional dishes from Asia and North Africa. Regular music, art and cultural shows makes the souq a great place to relax and soak up the atmosphere and you can also visit a number of art galleries or a traditional falconry market.
rise in revenue for hotels
Figures released by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) reveal that total hotel revenues for the emirate for Q1 of 2019 have increased by more than 16% compared to the same period in 2018.
The double-digit rise in revenues can be attributed to
a boost in Average Room Revenue, coupled with an occupancy rate of 79%. Some 1,291,482 visitors were guests of Abu Dhabi’s 169 hotels and hotel apartments during the first three months of the year. The figures also show Abu Dhabi has enjoyed a 2.1% increase in the Average Length of Stay of all guests.
Special events such as the AFC Asian Cup, Special Olympics World Games and the Retail Abu Dhabi (RAD) shopping festival, as well as new attractions including Warner
Bros. World Abu Dhabi, the Al Hosn cultural site and Qasr
Al Watan Library all provided a significant boost to the emirate’s appeal as a tourism destination.
A number of new hotel openings have also boosted the area’s appeal, including the Abu Dhabi Edition, which is the first Edition brand
hotel in the Middle East and North Africa region, alongside the Jumeirah Saadiyat, Saadiyat Rotana and Jumeirah Al Wathba properties which all opened in recent months.
‘Abu Dhabi –
find your amazing’
If Only... have teamed up with Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism to offer agents the chance to win a prize every month as part of their current campaign running until the end of the year.
Agents who make a booking for Abu Dhabi lasting three nights or more, will automatically be entered into the prize draw. Winners are announced on the final Friday of each month on the
If Only... Partners Facebook closed user group.
Prizes include Ferrari driving experiences, Jo Malone goodies and pampering sessions, with 8 prizes still up for grabs.
If Only... are also offering agents the opportunity to win Abu Dhabi themed goody bags in exchange for sharing their own Abu Dhabi experiences. This social media giveaway will also be running until the end of the year, with agents required to share photos and memories
of their own time in Abu Dhabi using the campaign hashtag - #myamazingabudhabi – to be in with a chance of winning one of these spot prizes.
The campaign aims to highlight the destination’s wide ranging appeal from couples, families and thrill-seekers to nature lovers and culture enthusiasts.

Qatar increases edinburgh service to double daily

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT DUBAI?
My favourite thing about Dubai is that
it truly has something for everyone - no matter who you are or how you like to travel, you can always find your perfect escape in Dubai’s sunshine. Many family- friendly hotels offer exciting Kids Clubs and engaging activity schedules and the city’s thrilling waterparks and theme parks make Dubai ideal for fun-filled family getaways.
Couples are well-catered for with some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and award-winning restaurants in romantic settings, whereas the incredible beach clubs, Friday brunches and quirky hotels such as Five Palm Jumeirah and ALOFT make Dubai the ultimate destination for groups of friends.
WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IN THE MIDDLE EAST?
Beyond Dubai’s glitz and glamour, the Middle East has a lot to offer. You’ll find incredible value all-inclusive hotels in Ras Al Khaimah and Abu Dhabi - the Rixos Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi is a particular favourite, boasting a comprehensive
all-inclusive plan in a stunning location. Oman is a brilliant choice for the adventurous, with rich culture, rugged mountains and endless deserts to explore - our tailor-made ‘Taste of Oman Tour’ offers the perfect introduction to this fascinating country.
WHY SHOULD AGENTS BOOK WITH EMIRATES HOLIDAYS?
Dubai is our home and we pride ourselves on being true Dubai experts, however we also offer remarkable holidays and tailor-made tours to destinations such as Mauritius, Maldives, South Africa and Thailand. Our travel experts visit each destination extensively, making them well-equipped to provide you with specialist knowledge and advice.
All of our holidays include flights on award-winning Emirates and with

Your customers will also benefit from competitive pricing, low deposit options from only £100 and will receive complimentary Dubai Parks and Resorts tickets on all Dubai holidays.
HOW DO EMIRATES HOLIDAYS SUPPORT TRADE?
We’re constantly updating and improving our dedicated agent website, www. emiratesholidaysagents.com - this easy- to-use platform allows agents to view our products, price up and book holidays for their customers without having to ring our call centre, saving valuable time.
We offer regular trade incentives including shopping and holiday vouchers, chances to win places on VIP FAM trips, sports tickets and more.
I love getting on the road to visit agents and am always more than happy to support wherever I can - just ask! Additionally, we offer fun, informative training events and host regular airport visits to ensure agents are well-equipped to offer customers outstanding advice and service.

Greetings Peeps!
It’s always great to get out and about meeting the lovely travel trade people and this month has been super busy!
Was delighted to get the opportunity to meet the new Marketing Director for Gold Medal and T2, Kerry Gallagher. I am already a pin up on their office ‘wall of fame’ after meeting Rhona Jenkins, so now Kerry has equal bragging rights! As well as talking footie, I got round to hearing about all the great product plans they have going forward – agents, watch this space!
Having received a personal bear-vitation from United Airlines, I attended their karaoke bash celebrating 15 years of flying direct to the Big Apple. On arrival, Mr and Mrs United (Tom and Nicola) were there to greet me as the guest of honour - (clearly I was not that important as I was stopped at the door trying to take home the model aircraft in the new United Airlines colours)! The band were great and although there was some questionable singing from a few agents in my humble opinion, my rendition of ‘I just want to be your Teddy Bear’ went down a storm!
Leger Travel have recently joined the Travel Matters family and I was excited to finally put a face to the name of their Head of Retail Sales, Ashley Dellow – what a gent! Over a cuppa and delicious brownie, we talked all things Leger and, in particular, how excited he is about the new brochure launch for their Scottish departures by air and coach. They have some amazing opportunities which you should make sure you check out.
Headed to the airport again as Delta Airlines celebrated the launch of their new direct Edinburgh to Boston service. Nadia, the Delta Supremo, came up to see me, desperate to have her piccie taken, which of course, I was happy to oblige with. It was a great event and Mr Delta (Scotland) couldn’t keep the smile off his face as he counted in all the passengers boarding the inaugural flight. Even someone as important as Captain Andy wanted to
be photographed with me – he is retiring in September so this was his last opportunity. Things are all going smoothly at Delta as they also confirmed they will be flying year round from EDI to JFK with 4 services a week this winter.
If Only... held a 1920’s Speakeasy event for their Peaks sales competition and I was on the VIP guest list. Lovely evening was had by all and believe it or not, Tracy Docherty for once, was not in front of the camera but very firmly behind it – owing to a serious wardrobe malfunction! Will say no more but am sure if you ask her yourself, she will reveal all!
That’s all for now folks........

The Canny Lad...
DARREN PHILLIPS
Hi guys, can’t believe it’s June - it should be all go go go in the office. I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to read this!
I have just come back from David Steven’s (Emirates) wedding to his long suffering....ooops, I mean long term boyfriend Brian, who is from Tralee, County Kerry in Ireland. What a weekend it was!
It all started at Newcastle Airport where Laura Hartshorne had reserved us a table in Bar 11, with plenty of space and a great atmosphere. There were 14 of us travelling to Dublin on Ryanair. No horror stories this time about the airline - we had lots of legroom and a polite crew. After a cheeky 5 hour transfer from Dublin, all organised by Laura, we arrived in Tralee.
Then it was off to Brian’s family’s house for a pre-wedding garden party, with copious amounts of alcohol and food! Add a singer in the mix and it was the perfect way to start the celebrations!
The next day, after a very late night, the all important full Irish breakfast soon sorted us out. Then it was off to the castle for the big event. I have to say it was amazing. A beautiful singer in the chapel and the personally written vows brought a tear to everyone’s eyes.
If only... hosted agents at a 1920s Speakeasy event in Glasgow
The meal was
one of the best
I have ever had
and the staff were fantastic. Ballyseede Castle in Tralee - you done the boys proud.
There was even a singing waiter who got everyone up doing the conga, singing and dancing. The band were great and the dance floor was packed all night. David’s niece, Rachael, even sang with them!
We had the best time and the memories will stay with us forever. Thank you, David and Brian, for letting us be a part of your special day.
Off to Zante next week - I love Greece but have never been to Zante so it should be fun.
Happy selling guys and catch up soon,
Darren

Think of Greece and images of a welcoming culture, beautiful islands, the deep blue sea and the jewel in the crown, Athens, will jump into your mind’s eye. There is no better way to get to this incredible country than with the airline that knows Greece best!
Few places compare to Athens with contrasting visions of beauty ranging from archaeological sites layered with history and antiquities juxtaposed with contemporary delights of an emerging modern art scene. Yet if you yearn for tranquil beaches and turquoise seas, AEGEAN flies to well-known destinations like Santorini and Mykonos and many more undiscovered Greek islands. Just waiting for visitors to dip their toes in the unspoilt waters.
AEGEAN understands Greece better
than any other airline. Operating under a promise of “Greek hospitality in the skies,” everything we do, from the welcome cus- tomers receive when they walk on board the aircraft, to the complimentary inflight Greek cuisine and beverages served with a smile, is tailored to ensure passengers arrive relaxed and ready to create stories and memories to last a lifetime.
AEGEAN Cabin Crew are the very embodiment of Greek hospitality. When flying with AEGEAN it’s all part of the service. Specially created Greek inspired dishes are served on a complimentary basis on all international flights.
A choice of complimentary sommelier- selected Greek wines, beer, non-alcoholic beverages plus tea and coffee are also served.
Each and every customer is welcomed onboard as if being welcomed into their own homes in Greece, putting people
at ease and making them feel at home during their journey.
This year marks the 20-year anniversary of the founding of AEGEAN. Now at the dawn of the company’s third decade, standing firmly on the solid foundations that experience brings, and having entered a new cycle of growth and development with an order for 46 state of the art Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft - an order that is the largest-ever private investment undertaken in Greece – we are renewing our commitment
to offering our passengers even better services.
In addition to a twice weekly direct
flight from Edinburgh to Athens, we
offer connections to the rest of Greece, opening up this diverse and magical destination for everyone. Connecting via Athens, customers can explore over 30 unique destinations around Greece, from the remote mountainous towns in the north of the country, to a huge range of islands to the south.
So, remember, if you think Greece, think AEGEAN. And let your Greek Summer story begin the moment you step onboard.

Where next?
Norway -
STAVANGER
For stunning scenery & adventure

Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock)
Vagen at sunset
Sverd i fjell (Swords in Rock)
Stavanger
Norway’s fourth largest city is a quaint and picturesque destination in its own right, but it is the access to the great outdoors that makes Stavanger unique.
Perched just a short distance from the old town are dramatic mountains and fjords, which are arguably at their most scenic when they’re dusted with snow in the winter months.
However, it is not just the majestic beauty of the fjords that make Stavanger Region, it’s also the unique winter experiences on offer that comfortably rival Iceland’s.
Stavanger is one of the best destinations in the world for hiking & trekking; home to Preikestolen “the Pulpit Rock” (scaled by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Fall Out) and the Florli Stairs (one of the longest outdoor wooden staircases in the world - with 4,444 steps). Both are some of the world’s most rewarding hikes too – with magnificent views of the fjords at the summits. Feeling even more adventurous? Guided snowshoe hikes are also available!
If on the other hand you prefer a more leisurely approach to discovering the winter wonders, visitors can take a relaxing boat trip along the Lysefjord, formed during the ice age by massive glaciers. From the boat it’s possible to see mighty mountains, frozen waterfalls, colonies of seals, herds of goats and secluded settlements. Often these sights are semi- shrouded in a mist that reflects off the mirror-like surface of the waters - natural beauty at its finest.
In common with Bergen, Region Stavanger also has some excellent Ski resorts, just a 2-hour drive and you’ll find yourself in Sirdal - one of Norway’s main skiing valleys and host to the Sirdal Ski Centre. Here you can try out cross-country skiing, mountaineering trips, tobogganing and even dogsledding! More information can be found at sirdal-skicenter.no
And after a busy day of exploring, why not enjoy a meal
in RE-NAA? the first Norwegian restaurant outside of Oslo to receive a coveted Michelin Star (seafood is the highlight but don’t worry, seasonal dishes of many varieties are on offer too!).
Discover more with Loganair & Widerøe See overleaf for our Norwegian Codeshare destinations.

Bergen
One of the magical locations which inspired Disney’s Frozen, Bergen (a UNESCO World Heritage site) is a stunning destination for a short winter break. Norway's second largest city offers a significant number of inner-city attractions...
Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and overlooking the sea, visitors will be instantly impressed by Bergen’s scenic location, nestled against seven towering hills. However, it has plenty more to offer when it comes
to Instagrammable backdrops.
Bryggen Wharf, the quayside row of colourful townhouses, often contrast against a snowy white back-drop in winter to form the iconic postcard-perfect scene. For a spectacular aerial view overlooking the mountains, we'd recommend taking the funicular train to the summit of Fløyen too.
If it does get too chilly outside for your liking, there's no need to worry... bask in the culture of Western Norway with an afternoon in KODE, one of the largest museums for art, craft, design and music in the Nordic countries and highly rated. If of the musical persuasion, a visit to Edvard Grieg Museum is a must; situated in the composer’s former residence, you can learn more about his life and works or even see a private concert. If classical music isn’t your thing, the residence itself is a sight not to be missed.
Foodie? Why not tantalise your senses with a walk around the Bergen fish market? The sights, smells and atmosphere is an experience in itself, a tradition that remains very much alive since Viking times.
For thrill-seekers looking for something special, head out
of the city and join a professional guided glacier hike - it's sure to excite. Up close you will experience a fairy-tale environment of constantly changing sculptures. The varying light, infinite shades of blue and the sounds of the ice make glacier hiking surreal and other-worldly.
If you’re looking to turn up the pace, snow sports enthusiasts should put Voss Resort on their bucket list: An immaculately well-kept resort that has some stunning accommodation options including modern, Scandinavian-style log cabins with breath-taking views and grass roofs, just an hour and a half from Bergen. Voss is home to 40km of groomed slopes, 10 ski lifts and 23 ski slopes in total and includes an international giant slalom and a SuperG slope. If cross-country skiing is more your thing, then we're afraid to say there's only a mere 18km of trails! With a mix of unspoiled scenery, great terrain, superb accommodation, restaurant facilities and a ski school, Voss should be considered as a real alternative to the increasingly busy French and Swiss Alps resorts – learn more at: vossresort.no

range of trip styles from Intrepid
Over 50% of customers on Intrepid’s trips are travelling solo, which is why travelling as part of a small group tour is ideal. Each of Intrepid’s trips are led by an expert local leader who can give tips on the destination, such as the best places to explore, as well as introduce clients to the locals. Tour leaders can pick the best restaurants, organise public transport and will take care of all the other logistics of travel.
The average Intrepid Travel trip has about ten people on it – with a mixture of all ages and backgrounds from all over the world - and there are optional single supplements if clients prefer having a room to themselves.
The operator also features a range of trip styles – Basix, Original and Comfort – that offer different levels of flexibility and free time. While there is always a set itinerary for the group, Basix trips tend to have less included activities and more time for clients to do their own thing. Original trips have a 50/50 balance and Comfort trips have more included activities.
For solo travellers interested in South America, Intrepid offers a two-week journey to discover Mexico’s Aztec, Zapotec, Mayan and Spanish cultures. On this trip, customers can explore ruins, tribal villages and white sandy beaches such as Playa
del Carmen with opportunities for swimming, snorkelling and hiking. Guests can also marvel at Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
riviera travel adds new itineraries
Riviera Travel features eight new itineraries curated exclusively for solo travellers, with three new solo cruises, five new solo tours and a total of 34 different itineraries designed for solo travellers.
Will Sarson, Head of Specialist Product at Riviera Travel said that the company’s growing 2019 programme offered solo travellers the opportunity to have a truly authentic experience across an increasing range of destinations. “There has been
a real shift in attitude over the last few years, with travellers increasingly choosing to discover the joys of solo travel. Following this increased demand and by taking on the valuable feedback provided by our customers, Riviera Travel has more than doubled our solo travel programme in the last year.
“While we have always offered sole occupancy cabins and rooms on our tours and cruises, in 2017 we introduced our first Solo Travel programme offering eight escorted tours. This has expanded rapidly and in 2019, we are proud to offer customers a total of 34 solo tours and cruises.”
A new classic cruise is the eight-day Spectacular Nile for Solo Travellers Cruise, aboard the MS Movenpick Hamees.
Unlike other Egypt tours offered by Riviera Travel, this itinerary has been especially tailored for solo travellers and includes highlights such as the famed tombs of the Valley of the Kings, the temple of Isis at Philae, which was rescued from the rising waters of Lake Nasser and the towering red granite Obelisk of Hatshepsut.
New tours include America’s Deep South on Riviera Travel’s new Deep South USA plus Texas for Solo Travellers tour. This 14-day itinerary includes Tennessee and Mississippi and also visits Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans, as well as Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
Food enthusiasts can enjoy the four-day Taste of Bologna escorted tour with visits to local producers to taste regional specialties such as parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar.

Absolutely - Peru is a perfect destination for solo travellers as it’s very safe. G Adventures caters well for solos - with
on average only 12 people on a tour with up to a maximum of 16 in each group.
The CEO’s ensure that there is a family feeling amongst the group from day one. Not only do we take clients to see all the main attractions and sights, we also immerse them into the local culture where they get the opportunity to meet the locals first hand.

solo holidays
Rise of the solo traveller
New research released by Saga has revealed that the solo traveller is no longer defined by their relationship status but instead by their passion for travel and experiences.
According to the research, one of the main reasons for people choosing to travel alone was the freedom to do whatever they want, whenever they want (85%), followed by meeting like-minded people (72%). Two thirds said the appeal of a solo holiday was that they like time on their own and 44% said that they like the invigoration of solo travel.
One in three over 50s have been on a solo holiday or said that they intended to do so within the next two years. This is backed up by figures from ABTA which show that there has been a 150% rise in solo travel by British holidaymakers in the past seven years.
Female travellers (39%) were more likely than their male counterparts (26%) to have either been on a solo holiday or
to have said that they intended to do so and reported that their main motivation to travel alone was to pursue their own passions and not somebody else’s (24%).
Travelling alone creates the opportunity to travel at your own pace and do things that are of interest to you as an individual.
People do not appear to consider factors such as local amenities (3%), local representatives (3%) or exchange rates (1%) when considering booking a solo holiday, but instead opt to seek more experiential travel, with location (42%), places of interest (32%) and cultural experiences (14%) at the top of their list. 60% of people like the ability to get under the skin of the destination during a solo holiday.
The research also reveals that Spain (33%) Italy (32%) and France (27%) are
the preferred overseas destinations for solo holidays. The use of smartphones and travel apps have made travelling the world alone less intimidating and have potentially encouraged solo travel. Price (46%) was found to be the most important factor when considering solo travel plans, with a third of people saying they felt disadvantaged by choosing to travel alone.
Saga has a wide selection of destinations for single travellers and provides allocations of single rooms without supplement (rooms at exactly half the twin rate) at many Spanish, Croatian, Portuguese and Madeira hotels. The operator has also increased its range of experiences and excursion programmes for those wanting to travel alone, ranging from escorted tours to river or ocean cruises.

Questions & Answers
GARY REAVELY speaks to
STEVE SZALAY,
Managing Director, Aberdeen Airport (AGS)
Have you always worked in the airline industry?
Before I joined Aberdeen in November 2018, I was Ground
Ops Director at Jet2 and for 5 years before that, was at LHR and Gatwick as VP of Ground Operations for Dnata. We looked after the five-star airlines with 18 in total, responsible for check-in and ramp. This was my introduction to the airline industry because before that I had been in the Army for 21 years. Quite a change!
Do you have any immediate priorities?
Consolidation and diversification have been key – Aberdeen is obviously linked very strongly to the oil and gas industry. When it has problems, as it has in the past few years, the airport feels the pain. So, I want to try to expand our portfolio. Even though oil and gas will remain the bedrock, it’s important to always look at other avenues so if oil and gas catch a cold again in the future, we are a bit more resilient.
What enhancements have been made in the past 6 months?
We had a big opening on 10th April where our new routes were revealed and we have one more sub phase to go, hopefully to be completed by 1st September, with a new buffet shop and restaurant. That will then mark the end of a three year, £20m transformation - on time and on budget - and it looks amazing.
Anyone who hasn’t been to the airport for a while will find it unrecognisable - we have new baggage belts, security, duty free, many new key high street names and a series of eating options.
Are there any plans for new routes and services?
Anything I say about this has to start with a negative... but ends on a huge positive! Losing Gatwick and Frankfurt was a significant blow for the airport as the connectivity they offered was huge.
However, on the positive side, because there are now green shoots in the oil and gas industry, the airlines that are still here are all increasing their capacity. KLM, SAS, Loganair, Eastern, Air Baltic, Air France etc, are all growing. They can see and feel the changes taking place and the growing positivity about the city in general.
There have been major infrastructure developments that all increase the footfall to the airport. With new roads and dual carriageways now open, we are in a situation where not only have we almost halved the time it takes from Aberdeen city centre to the airport, but also now appeal to the 150,000 people in Dundee, less than one hour away from the airport. Add to this the new developments to the Harbour and a conference centre and these all help not only the city of Aberdeen, but the airport too.
On a personal note... best destination for a holiday?
I love Newcastle – it’s a fantastic city which has regenerated itself massively in the past few years. Paris is amazing too and one I never tire of. Slightly less obvious is Riga – the Old Town is beautiful and the surrounding areas have so much to offer. The food, wine and people are all great.
If you are talking about destinations that I haven’t been to then the Grand Canyon and also Turkey, are at the top of my still to see list!
