El Festival Internacional de Cine Guanajuato y el Instituto Mexicano de Cine-
matografía se enorgullecen en organizar la décima edición del Foro Bilateral,
cuyo objetivo es abrir un espacio de cooperación para la comunidad cinema-
tográfica internacional.

En esta ocasión, el Foro Bilateral se realizará con la participación de miem-
bros de la industria del cine de México y Canadá, quienes en forma conjunta,
explorarán áreas de oportunidad que les permitan crear nuevos espacios.
Las industrias de ambas naciones comparten diferentes retos en materia de
producción, distribución y exhibición, tanto dentro como fuera de nuestras
respectivas fronteras. Sin embargo, hoy la primicia es construir puentes y no
muros.

El panorama actual nos permite pensar en la posibilidad de la renegocia-
ción del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte y es por esto que
este espacio de diálogo tiene como objetivo hacer una revisión obligada de
los diferentes escenarios y perspectivas actuales, que nos ayuden a mejorar
las condiciones de la industria cinematográfica de la producción, la exhibi-
ción y la distribución.

Siguiendo el objetivo de unificar fortalezas para lograr mejores condicio-
nes dentro del quehacer fílmico, se abrirá una mesa de trabajo en torno a la
producción y coproducción, temas esenciales en ambas industrias. A partir
del Foro Bilateral se dará puntual seguimiento a los acuerdos y ventanas de
oportunidad que se presenten, consolidando a su vez una relación fecunda y
permanente con el País Invitado de Honor.

The Guanajuato International Film Festival and the Mexican Film Institute are
proud to organize the tenth edition of the Bilateral Forum, which seeks to open
up a space of cooperation for the international filmmaking community.

On this occasion, the Bilateral Forum will feature members of the Mexican
and Canadian film industries and together they will explore areas of opportu-
nity that will allow them to create new spaces. The industries of both nations
share different challenges regarding production, distribution and exhibition,
both within and beyond our respective borders. Nonetheless, today’s focus is to
build bridges, not walls.

The current landscape allows us to think about the possibilities of re-negoti-
ating NAFTA and this dialogue space therefore intends to review the different
scenarios and current perspectives that will help improve the conditions of our
film industries in terms of production, exhibition and distribution.

Following the objective of joining forces in order to achieve better conditions
in filmmaking, a discussion will take place on production and co-production, es-
sential issues in both industries. The Bilateral Forum will pave the way to follow
up on agreements and windows of opportunity presented, once again consoli-
dating a fruitful and permanent relationship with this year’s Spotlight Country.
