Introduction &
General Explanation

The book of Psalms is one of the books
which is included in the Holy Bible. The
book is composed of 150 psalms, each
of which stands alone as a closed unit.
Most of it was written by King David
approximately 2900 years ago.
Ever since it was written, people all over
the world have recited Psalms in times
of danger, for the sick, and at any time
they have felt the need to get closer to the
Creator of the world, and wanted to praise
Him.
We believe God created the world by
speaking in the Hebrew language. In the
book of Genesis chapter 1, "God said, let
there be light, and there was light" etc.
From this chapter we learn that the most
powerful strength is "the power of speech."
It can create worlds and change realities.
There is no argument about the power

10

of the Psalms. Saying Psalms can bring
salvation for illness, bring sustenance, and
abundance in every area.
In the Holy Zohar it is written that in our
generation there will be international
spiritual awakening, and alongside
technological development, the yearning
for God's proximity will increase. By saying
Psalms every day, the mental hunger
in the human soul can find fulfillment,
enlightenment and material abundance.
Scholars of the Kabbalah have told us that
specific chapters of Psalms are suitable for
particular situations.
There is a big advantage in saying Psalms
aloud in the language they were written in:
Hebrew. Today, people who do not know
the language can recite Psalms in Hebrew
thanks to the transliteration, even without
understanding what they are saying.
By saying Psalms in Hebrew, the prospects
of salvation by God and for praising Him in
the correct way increase.

11

"Anyone who prolongs his prayer is
assured that his prayer does not return
unanswered. It will surely be accepted."
(Talmud Berakhot, 32b)

12

Instructions for reading and saying
the transliteration out loud:

The transliteration has easy rules. Follow
them to read clearly and accurately.

1. The mark (-) indicates the continuation
of a word.

2. The sound of the vowels a,e,i,o,u,oo is the
original sound in English.
There are no combinations of letters
such as – ea, ou, io and so on.
For example, in the transliteration the
word "ho-le" is different to the word
"hole" in English. In the transliteration
it is pronounced as "ho" and afterwards
"le".
In the transliteration the letters are
pronounced in accordance to the
original sound (a,e,i,o,u,oo) and therefore
the word "dey" in the transliteration
is pronounced as the word "day" in

13

English, ("de" followed by "y").
The word "day" in the transliteration
is pronounced as the word "dai" in
English, "da" followed by "y".

3. In Hebrew there are many stops in the
middle of the word – like the "rd" from
the word "word". To make it easy for the
reader, most of the time the sign (-) is
placed following a letter without vowels
after it.

4. In Hebrew there is a letter whose sound
is not "h" and not "ch" – but something
in between (like the sound of one of the
Dutch letters). When this letter is written,
in the transliteration it is written as "h' ".

An example of the correct pronunciation
of the transliteration can be found at:
