Memorial to Cherry Banks &
Archbishop Phillip Hannan

Cherry Duplechain Banks was was an accounting specialist

in the Office of Fiscal Services from January 2006 through January
2012. She was the sister of Melva Williams, interim vice president
of Office of Technology Administration. A special memorial was held
Saturday, February 4, at 10:00 a.m. in the Xavier University Chapel.

On October 5, 2011, Xavier University of Louisiana joined with the people of New Orleans and the nation in mourning the death of Archbishop Philip M.
Hannan. Xavier’s President, Dr. Norman C. Francis said, “Archbishop Hannan was a special friend and supporter of the University, evidenced by his service as
a member of the Xavier Board of Trustees as well as his personal role that led to the historic visit of Pope John Paul II to the Xavier campus in 1987. He was a
trailblazer and visionary who was clearly ahead of his time in regards to the ideals of social justice, civil rights, and respect for all people. I certainly count him

as a personal friend and take comfort knowing he is at peace.”

Danielle Foster, a Xavier graduate from
May, 2011 died in October, 2011. She was a
pre-med biology graduate from Indianapolis,

Indiana. Danielle was enrolled at Howard
University Medical School.

A memorial was held on campus in her
honor, led by her sisters of Delta Sigma

Theta, Sorority.
