No More Laughter
My uncle's cheerfulness Can bring light
To dark at any moment.
I could always hear
His loud voice
From inside of the house While he's outside,
At any party
But that smile,
Oh, that smile,
His cheeks rise up
As his eyes disappear But that laugh,
Oh, that laugh,
His laugh was loud With a small sound Of a gasp at the end.
But today, There lie tears.
Debra Bissant Registrar's Office July 2018
His eyes
Become visible again His face
Shows sorrow.
His cheeks
No longer sit high. His smile
Becomes hidden,
As he sees his father Lying in the casket, And his laughter Becomes silent.

Etiquette
Here are a few things you can remember
The next time you go to someone's home.
Wear nice clothes and be fresh, always look your best And brush your hair with a comb.
Keep your shoulders back and your chin up
As you approach the door.
Gently knock a couple of times
And step back not one step, not three, but four.
Keep a smile as the hosts open the door. They'll ask you how you have been
Respond "I'm fine" and keep standing outside Until they invite you in.
Sit down in a chair with your legs together And your hands flat by your side.
Speak softly and slowly, not loudly or foully. Remember the voice for inside.
When it is time to eat, please take your seat,
Speak only after you've finished your bite.
Keep your elbows off the table, and a napkin on your lap. The fork's on the left, the knives on the right.
No slurping or burping or gulping
And ask first, if you must be excused.
Say please and thank you. Clean up after yourself. Rinse off the plates that you used.
When it is time to leave, leave everything neat
And make sure you say "Goodbye.
Thank you for the stay. Come by us some other day." This is the proper etiquette you should always live by.

The Book Store
The stench of books made me gag.
I had no desire to gander
At the shelves as I wandered through the aisles.
Others walked around me, but I couldn't have
Felt more alone. I reached my destination and
Sighed heavily. Bubbling laughter was at my right
And a joker messing around with friends was on my left. But, that did nothing to distract me from the searing pain In my chest, I needed to be a warrior and toughen up, but It was too much. I read the price hanging under
The stack of books: $125.00
I Prayed, "God, please wake me up from this nightmare. I can't afford these books."

Ride the wave...
A slave to the fastest currents...
With my soul out to sea
I can only be
Equivalent to a drop of water.
Singular, lonely
The sails of my ship can no longer be cast Stranded in the middle of an ocean
Of million dark and troubling thoughts. Somehow floating
I can't swim.
Just close my eyes
Observe, feel
Stuck floating, senseless.
