Letter from Jim Brown, CEO

I am happy to share that we have finalized an agreement with Marketplace Chaplains.
This service augments our existing volunteer chaplain coverage. Marketplace Chaplains
will place dedicated ministerial staff in our hospital daily from their already-existing
network of local clergy. Their service is ecumenical in nature and they have
relationships that span multiple religions and denominations. In addition to providing
pastoral care to our patients, they will also focus on the spiritual and emotional well-
being of our colleagues. For families who have experienced loss, they can assist with
funeral arrangements and other difficult tasks. In difficult times for our team, they will
be able to assist us with counseling. I am very excited to have this group joining us.

Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute – North Cypress

Sarah Cannon was a television and radio personality, known worldwide for her Grand Ole Opry character “Minnie Pearl.” After
receiving treatment for breast cancer at our founding center in Nashville, she offered the use of her given name to promote
cancer research and patient education with a vision of offering patients convenient access to early detection, clinical trials and
a team approach to cancer care.

Since 1993, Sarah Cannon has taken many first steps in the fight against cancer, beginning with clinical research. With the focus
of offering patients greater access to clinical trials at the earliest phases, our founders established the first community-based
cancer research program and four years later, formed the first drug development program outside of an academic setting.

Formally named Sarah Cannon Research Institute in 2004, its offerings expanded into communities across the United States
and United Kingdom to form one of the largest patient-centric clinical trial organizations in the world conducting drug
development at all phases, including first-in-human studies.

The expansion included establishing the first clinical trials program in the United Kingdom outside of the NHS, as well as the
first private molecular profiling laboratory. Through its global expertise and reach, Sarah Cannon has been instrumental in
advancing therapies for patients through new drug approvals for more than two decades.

Sarah Cannon has grown to become the Cancer Institute of HCA, committed to addressing every aspect of care from diagnosis

Chelsea Diedrich, Med. Surg. 6 Nurse

“I wake up every morning proud to put on my scrubs and got to work. As we
walk through the door our masks are on and I know it's time to live up to
HCA's motto and provide care above all else. Knowing that it is a new day for
me to make an impact on my patients lives while some have been here
many days or even it if it there first day, it is my goal to make there day and
help them reach their goals. Even the small ones. Before patients did not
have visitors to come see them while they were in the hospital, leaving a lot
of the patients to feel alone, discouraged, worried, or in fear. Knowing this it
was my duty to come and be a welcoming and friendly face/nurse that my
patient's could trust and rely on. I wanted to know their concerns and
address them, I wanted to know there goals and help them reach them. We
are the ones to care and instill hope in our patients and push them to do
better. My team makes even easier to go above all else in that we all work
together and are a helping hand when we need it. Shout out to the ms4
nurses at HCA north cypress. Y’all are awesome and make work days better.”

Behind the Mask: I am…
Story Winner

Lam Ngo, FSED Towne Lake Nurse

“Life is finite and fragile. I was involved in a car accident that should have killed
me. I have never told anyone this but I saw a light when my accident happened. I
sustained a skull fracture, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and C5 cervical fracture. By
the grace of God, I survived. I have always wondered why I was kept alive. People
die everyday with injuries far less complicated than mine. Yet, here I am. The old
adage “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger” certainly holds true in my
situation. I was able to become physically and mentally stronger for it. The
strength that I gained from my personal experience has allowed me to persevere
during the pandemic. This strength is what led me to provide care above all else.
I have been able to help people through these trying times by sharing my
personal experience. I show them that no matter what happens, where there is a
will to survive, there is a way. No matter how dire the situation seems, there is
always a light at the end of the tunnel. At the end of day, I know that I have
provided the best care possible for my patients and that is all I can hope for.

MRI scans at HCA through Centauri/ “I am sad to say I do not remember the name of the X-Ray tech I had made us feel like we were among
IvyVentures. Her name is Jasmen, and she on 07/01/2021 but he was a very caring tech. I was told the wait family. I was informed on everything
worked with me for a long time on Wed., July should be around 5 minutes since I was next in line. After about 15- that was being done - they made
21 getting everything organized. We had to go 20 minutes I see a tech roll a patient out in a wheelchair and tell the sure all questions were answered
through this again on July 23rd, b/c the Dr. caregiver of the patient that it took a while since the X-Rays were which was so reassuring. Every day,
changed the date he wanted the scans. I was hurting him and the tech tried to make it better for the patient. You bright smiles met us when we
very lucky to have her pick up the phone could tell the patient was ill and reminded me of my father I lost walked in and when I went thru
when I called. She was kind enough to answer about 5 years ago who lived with cancer for over 20 years and treatment. Thank you especially to
all my questions and to send me a always hated any medical test due to pain. I had no idea this was my Amy, Debbie, Tracie and Dr.
confirmation email. Her willingness to be kind X-Ray tech at the time and when the same tech called me back he Mazloom for being there for me. I
and go the extra mile is just not found very started to tell me he was sorry for the wait. I stopped him and told am actually going to miss going
him how wonderful I thought it was that he had done for the there every day!. ” – Google
much these days.” - YELP previous patient since I heard when he came out. I was sitting right
by the door, this is the only reason I heard any of this.” – Google JKN1702
