Letter from Jim Brown, CEO
Later this month, I will host multiple weeks of mandatory in-person Town Hall
meetings. During this time together, I will review results of our most recent Glint
engagement survey. I’ll also share more detail on the recent wage adjustment
announcement. Our agenda will be condensed to less than 30 minutes. While not all
Town Halls will be mandatory, I foresee conducting two a year that will be. We’ll move
forward with frequent virtual Town Halls as well as quarterly in-person events. I
appreciate you making time for these important discussions.

Letter from Troy Villarreal, GCD CEO
As we turn the corner from the pandemic, our patient activity is rebounding and the employment market is changing across the country. We’ve listened
carefully to our leaders and our frontline colleagues about the need to strengthen our patient-focused culture by investing in those who deliver it.
We’re excited to share that we’re making a number of investments to support the attraction, retention and recognition of our colleagues, including:
• Implementing targeted wage adjustments to address market factors in particular roles/markets, in addition to our annual wage increases. We will take a
targeted approach in two phases. In our first phase, we are prioritizing certain clinical roles. We will continue to assess market competitiveness as it relates
to labor supply and demand. Our next phase will include a review of director and entry-level roles.
• Investing in equipment to address issues raised by our nursing colleagues, improve the work environment and support our commitment to patient care.
• Providing an enhanced enterprise-wide recognition program to enrich our culture and strengthen communication, feedback and recognition of our
colleagues.
• Expanding Galen College of Nursing and other nursing school partnerships to help colleagues achieve their career goals and bring additional talent into
HCA Healthcare.
• Adding recruitment resources to meet critical workforce needs.
This represents a notable investment in our workforce. It reflects our commitment to addressing workforce issues, enhancing our culture and responding
to colleague feedback: a total of $13 million in our division, in addition to annual wage increases. While the wage adjustments are a large part of this
investment, we want to make sure you are aware of the broader investments we are making.
We are working over the next few weeks to finalize details and the time frame for implementation. We expect the targeted market adjustments to be
effective July 18. Managers will communicate more specifics as soon as possible.
Thanks to your dedication and resolve, we were able to navigate the past year successfully. We want to recognize your contribution by investing in you.
Sincerely,

the best care to our patients as they are here due to their
medical needs. I make sure that they are as comfortable as
possible. If there is anything that the patient’s need I make sure
that they get it if it's within the doctors orders. I give the best
registration that a registrar can possibly give, I am very patient
and kind while getting everything that's needed. I go over and

“My children are what inspire me to do more; to be more. Cliche? I am a
single Mom of two amazing kids. Teenagers! Both of them were born here
in Houston at Woman's Hospital. When Abigail was to be delivered, I
labored through 3 shifts before being taken in for an emergency c-section.
This beautiful bundle forever changed my life! We stayed in the hospital for
6 days before going home with home healthcare for me. We did not take
her birth, or the birth of her brother 2.5 years later, for granted. Abigail was
there to play Elsa, from Frozen, when the new Pedi Unit opened up and she
sang down the hallways to the NICU and post-partum patients. She
volunteered many years at TOH and now at my current hospital, N. Cypress.
It was her/our way of giving back. Work and volunteerism is a normal part
of our home. Making others smile and feel cared for is simple and generally
takes little effort but the impact can be huge, especially for our patients and
loved ones.” – Karen

“Good Morning. Wanted to contact you and say a few nice comments
about your OUTSTANDING program and staff on the 6th Floor at North
Cypress. I would like to start off by saying that Celeste is wonderful, kind,
caring, professional, sugar and spice and everything nice! She made me
feel welcomed and like family when I attended the program. The rest of the
staff, and especially Kiersten (my favorite) were just as SUPERB!!!!
Wonderful, fabulous, super-friendly, kind, caring, etc. Scheduling was easy,
class was always fun, and they were always very attentive and on top of
things… Constantly moving around taking blood pressures, temp checks,
helping with equipment, etc. Super-efficient program that works, and really
helped me get back to normal faster than I thought I would. I felt a little
nervous in the beginning (having 4 and eventually 6 stents), but they gave
me confidence that life would return to normal. And it did!!!! AMEN!!! I
am back to regular exercise, and I OWE it to Celeste and her staff. THANK

wonderful operator in her. She is soft spoken with a gentle heart and
carries great compassion with our customers. She is a very willing soul
and participates whenever approached. One great thing I want to
point out is, Corina cares like family- PBX has to be strategic when we
get work done in our office. The floor techs will have to work during
off-peak time- around 5am to clean/wax our floors. This is right
before the end of Corina’s shift. Corina preps the entire office moving
furniture and chairs preparing for their arrival as she knows that this
function will have to be quick and effortless and completed before
the morning rush. Thank you for not taking the stance- of “this is not
a part of my job” and doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
Corina, your foresight may not mean much to you but it means the

I wanted to give you all some insight on the progress we have made in
relation to our SNF discharges. On April 27th, we initiated CM staff
scheduling transportation on all SNF patients.
For the 1st quarter of 2021, we were averaging 430 minutes from DC
order to transfer to SNF which equals 7 HOURS between DC order and
transfer.
Since implementation of scheduling transportation, we have reduced
our time from DC order to transfer to SNF from 430 MINUTES....... TO 230
MINUTES!!!!!!!
This has reduced patient wait time for discharge to SNF by over 3 hours.
Kudos to all that have assisted in making this successful especially the
SWs coordinating all of the transportation and the nurses who adjusted
to the change quickly.
NEXT STEPS: This will likely be implemented for transfers to ALL levels of
care in the new future.
Thank you all for making this initiative successful!
