Letter from Jim Brown, CEO

As Christmas approached, I had the opportunity to witness our team’s contribution to Cypress
Assistance Ministry’s Angel Tree distribution. This is an amazing effort where over 1,500 local
families are able to receive gifts from their children’s list to Santa. As I watched our team’s joy in
serving, I found myself reflecting on the numerous service projects, human service organizations,
and events our hospital supports and felt proud that we have become a good and critical
corporate citizen.

This year, we provided meaningful support to Cy-Hope, Cy-Fair Helping Hands, and Cypress
Assistance Ministries. Our involvement included a clothing drive, shoe donations, food drive,
turkey donations, and Angel Tree donations and distribution. In addition to our support of these
safety net organizations, we provided assistance for our own deserving team members with
comparable gifts of school supplies, food, and Christmas presents.

In addition to these human service organizations, we supported the Cy-Fair Education
Foundation and Cy-Fair Chamber of Commerce with contributions and service. We also
adopted Cy Falls High School where we provided mentors, school supplies and backpacks, and
hosted teacher appreciation events.

I am very proud of the magnitude in which HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress is giving back
to our community. This will continue to be a priority for our hospital and I hope you will take the
opportunity to serve in your own special way in 2020.

Hobbies: Traveling, Swimming, Dancing and Connecting with Family and

Interesting Fact: Not only is Karen the youngest of 3 daughters, she was

also born in Hawaii and is the only person with blue eyes and left handed in her
family.

Favorite HCA Memory: Winning Director of the Year at TOH in 2003

Getting to Know your Sr. Leadership Team- January 2020

Family: My best friend and husband, Derek, and I will be celebrating 4 years on

December 30th. Makayla, my high spirited 11 year old daughter, is one of my life’s
greatest accomplishments. Together these two are my hearts joy.

Pets: 2 Bengal cats, Onyx and Sapphire
Favorite Color: seasonal – currently grey, I enjoy all colors
Favorite Quote: “Your circumstances aren't the reasons you can't succeed.

They're the reality in which you must succeed.” Cy Wakeman

Hobbies: DIY carpentry, home remodeling, crafting, etc.
Interesting Fact: In high school, I sat first chair for the clarinet and learned

how to play the saxophone and flute.

Favorite HCA Memory: Spending August 25th – August 30th 2017 locked in

HCA West during Hurricane Harvey. The support we received from our company was
unpresented. I will never forget when the chinooks arrived to take our sickest patients to
safer ground. Also, winning the Unit of Distinction award, ranked #12 out of 541 Med.
Surg. units across the company was a very proud moment of mine. I was so proud of all
the hard work, dedication, commitment and passion our team displayed each and
every day to win such an award. The Unit of Distinction award celebrates individual
departments that are defining Excellence in Nursing through nursing specific indicators
and departmental performance.

HCA Tenure: April of 2020 will be my 7th year with HCA
