Koti Reddy
• Sri Koti Reddy (1886-1970), B.A (Madras), L.L.B(London), B.C.L (Oxon),
Bar-at-Law(Middle Temple). Advocate and Agriculturist.
• He accompanied Gandhiji during his Rayalaseema tour in 1919-20.
Took part in the individual Satyagraha Movement and was imprisoned
for eight months from 07.12.1940 in the Vellore and Tiruchirapalli Jails.
• He was detained during the Quit India Movement from 10.08.1942 at
Vellore and Amaravati jails.. He was the president of the Andhra
Mahasabha and Minister for Endowments and Excise, during 1946-47 in
the composite Madras State and Revenue Minister, 1953-54 in the
Andhra province
Duggirala Gopala Krishnaiah
• Sri Duggirala Gopala Krishnaiah, was a very captivating poet, speaker,
songwriter, philosopher, singer and an extraordinary revolutionary with a
philosophy of non-violence.
• For his exemplary work and sacrifices for freedom movement in
Andhra, he was fondly conferred the name 'Andhra Ratna' (Jewel of state
Andhra Pradesh state) .
• Gopala Krishnaiah organised a cadre of workers whom he called Rama
Dandu (meaning Rama's Army) to work for the cause of Swaraj.
• The first episode of Civil Disobedience Movement in Andhra Pradesh
was the Chirala-Perala movement, which was led by Duggirala Gopala
Krishnaiah.
Konda Venkatappaiah
• Desa Bhakta Konda Venkatappaiah or Konda Venkatappayya B.L. (1866–1948)
was a noted lawyer, Indian freedom fighter and politician from Andhra Pradesh.
• He is one of the founders and first editor of "Krishna Patrika", leading weekly
Telugu magazine during the early 20th century.
• He founded the Krishna Patrika in 1902 along with Vasu Narayana Rao and
edited the weekly magazine till 1905.
• He actively participated in various activities of the Indian freedom movement
and was jailed in 1930, 1932 and 1942.
• When Mahatma Gandhi launched the Civil disobedience movement in 1930-
31, he was president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee and in charge of
the movement in the State.
Sardar Gouthu Latchanna
• Sri SardarGouthuLatchanna who was a veteran freedom fighter. He
wass born in Baruva village of the Sompetamandal, Srikakulam district
in the state of Andhra Pradesh on 16 August 1909.
• He was a champion of kisans, backward classes, weaker sections and
one of the most prominent leaders of his time.
• He was arrested at a very young age of 21 when he participated in the
Salt Satyagraha at Palasa.
• Latchanna also participated in the Quit India Movement. He was
conferred the title of sardar for his fearless fight against the British Raj.
• Having been inspired by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's "fast-unto-
death" on the issue of untouchability, Latchanna organized
"HarijanSevaSangam" at Baruva
• Till Independence, he fought against British. After the end of British
Raj, he was on political and social fronts for the sake of farmers,
laborers, and the working class.

Kanaklata Baruah
• KanaklataBarua (22 December 1924 – 20 September 1942), also
called Birbala and Shaheed (martyr), was an Indian independence
activist and AISF leader who was shot dead by the British police
while leading a procession bearing the National Flag during the Quit
India Movement of 1942.
• During the Quit India Movement Barua joined the MrityuBahini, a
death squad comprising groups of youth from the Gohpur sub
division of Assam.
• On 20 September 1942, the Bahini decided she would hoist the
national flag at the local police station. A procession of unarmed
villagers were led by Barua to do so. The police warned the
procession of dire consequences .
• The procession continued marching ahead when the police fired
upon the procession. Barua was shot dead at the age of only 17
years.
Kushal Konwar
• KushalKonwar was an Indian-Assamese freedom fighter from Assam
and he happened to be the only martyr in India who was hanged during
last phase of the Quit India Movement of 1942-43.
Accusing KushalKonwar as the chief conspirator of the train sabotage
near Sarupathar in Golaghat district, the British police arrested him and
charged him as the mastermind of the train sabotage. He was brought
from Golaghat and was lodged in the Jorhat jail on 5 November 1942.
Kushal was sentenced to death by hanging. He accepted the verdict
with dignity.
• When his wife, Prabhavati visited him in the Jorhat jail, he told her
that he is proud that God has selected him to be the only one among
the thousands of prisoners to give the supreme sacrifice for the
country.
Maniram dewan
• Maniram Dutta Baruah, popularly known as
ManiramDewan (17 April 1806 – 26 February 1858), was
an Assamese nobleman in British India.
• He was one of the first people to establish tea gardens in
Assam.
• A loyal ally of the British East India Company in his early
years, he was hanged by the British for conspiring against
them during the 1857 uprising.
• He was popular among the people of Upper Assam as
"Kalita Raja" .
Bhogeswari Phukanani
• BhogeshwariPhukanani (1885 – 20 or 21 September 1942)
was an Indian independence movement activist during the
British Raj and played a part in the Indian independence
struggle.During the Indian independence movement.
• Phukanani would often take part in nonviolent protest
marches against the British Raj or British rule.
• In 1942 Phukanani and her sons took part in that protest
march and a successful attempt was made to reopen the
Congress office.
• The indoor stadium named after her is situated at Guwahati
in Assam.
Durgeswar Sharma
• Durgeswar Sharma born on 29 th October 1903 in
Barhampur,Nagaon is one of the greatly revered freedom
fighters from the state of Assam as well as india.
• Being a self-made child, late Durgeswar Sharma understood
that freedom of the country is more precious than his personal
growth.
• To mark the disobedience and to boycott British implemented
education, he left his school during the seventh standard and
joined the Independence Movement as a volunteer.
• He became a follower of Gandhian thoughts and philosophy
and dedicated his life for the nation.
Ulaskar Dutta
• Ullaskar was born in the village of Kalikachha in the Brahmanbaria
district of present-day Bangladesh in a Baidya family.
• he was rusticated from the Presidency College, Kolkata a college
for hitting a British professor, Professor Russell, who made some
derogatory comment about Bengalis.
• Ullaskar was again arrested in 1931 and sentenced to 18 months
imprisonment.
• He died on 17 May 1965.Recently, two roads in Kolkata and
Silchar were named after him.
Malati Mem
• She was one of the leading members of the anti –opium
campaign in tea gardens.
• In 1921 she was killed by government supporters at lalmati in
Darrang District for supporting volunteers in prohibition
campaign.
Tikheswar Borgohain
• TikheswarBorgohain, an educationist, veteran freedom fighter and a
resident of LakwaCharingiaKonwergaon in Nazira subdivision in
Sivasagardistrict .
• Borgohain and fellow freedom fighter Uma KantaRajkonwer took part
in the Indian freedom movement.
For his outstanding contribution in the freedom movement, he was
awarded TramaPratra by the Union and State governments and
provided freedom fighter pension.
• On August 9, 2016 former President of India Pranab Mukherjee
felicitated TikheswarBorgohain in New Delhi.

Shyamdev Narayan
• Shyamdev Narayan alias Ram Singh was born on 5th October 1905 in
Bhagar village under Siswan police station in Siwan district.
• In 1931 during Salt Movement , he used to bring letters to the
Congress office. He was arrested on 4th December 1931 from Sadaqat
Ashram, Patna. He was caught at Sonepur station with some papers.
• Shyamdev Narayan was arrested and sentenced to Kalapani and on
September 22, 1932, he was sent to Port Blair Jail in Andaman Island.
• He encouraged people to participate in the “Quit India Movement of
1942 and was arrested several times between 1942 and 1945.
Tara Rani Srivastava
• Tara Rani Srivastava was born in Saran district of Bihar and was
married at a tender age to a freedom fighter named PhulenduBabu.
• She took lead of Mahatma Gandhi’s Quit India Movement and also
encouraged other women to participate in the movement.
• In the year 1942, Tara Rani and her husband gathered people and
marched forward to hoist the tri- colour at the Police Station, Siwan.
• The English police started firing in which her husband got shot. But
she continued marching towards the police station, Siwan where
she unfurled the tri-colour.
Dhruv Kundu
•Dhruv Kundu was born in the year 1929 in Katihar district
of Bihar.
•In 1942, when the “Quit India Movement” was launched
by Mahatma Gandhi, Dhruv Kundu was barely 13 years-
old. But this brave heart adolescent chose to participate in
1942 revolution with an objective to free our country from
British Rule.
•On 13th August 1942, this freedom movement erupted in
Katihar. The revolutionaries under the leadership of Dhruv
Kundu hoisted the National flag at the police station at
Katihar. British soldiers started firing on the crowd in which
Dhruv Kundu, was shot and he was martyred.
•The indomitable bravery and unrivalled ardor of the brave
martyr Dhruv Kundu will be remembered forever.

Shaheed Gundadhur
•Gundadhur was a tribal Leader from village Netanar, of
Bastar District, in present day Chhattisgarh.
• He was a great freedom fighter, Knowledgeable in the
gueralla warfare and being a patriot , as well as being aware
of the traditional interest of Tribals.
• He was one of the many unsung hero in the tribal areas in
the indian independence movement.
• This young man was the main character of the tribal revolt
of 1910. At the heart of this rebellion he exposed his
indomitable courage and strategy.
Thakur Pyarelal
• Thakur Pyarelal was born on 21st December, 1891 in Daihan
(District-Rajnandgaon) Chhattisgarh.
• He travelled from village to village and propagated Charkha
and Khadi.
• The "Jhanda Satyagraha" in 1923 he organized satyagrahis in
fort.
In 1924, under his leadership, the mill workers of
Rajnandgaon went on strike .
• He was a passionate Satyagrahi all through his life. He was
conferred with the Honorary title of "Tyagmurti" means
"Epitome of sacrifice".

Mir Mushtaq Ahmed
• Shri Mir Mushtaq Ahmed son of Sh. Mir Abdul Sattar,
was born on April 25, 1915 at Simla, Himachal Pradesh.
• He was the resident of Delhi. He worked as a teacher in
Ramjas School.
He took part in the Individual Satyagraha in 1940 and the
Quit India Movement in1942 along with Gandhi ji.
• He was detained for two years in 1941. His contribution
and sacrifice for India’s freedom struggle will remain
immortal.
Kshem Chandra ‘Sumen’
• Sh. Kshem Chandra ‘Sumen’ son of Shri Harish Chandra
Saraswati was born in 1916 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh and
settled in Delhi.
• He was well known Hindi Writer and poet. He
participated in Quit India Movement and suffered fifteen
months detention from March, 1943 to July 1944 in
Central jail, Ferozpur.

Samaldas Gandhi
• Samaldas Gandhi, a great leader of the Indian
independence movement was born in 1897 at
Porbandar, Samaldas was the son of
LaxmidasKaramchandGandhi( Elder brother of
Mahatma Gandhi).
• Samaldas was close follower of his uncle,
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
• When a Nawab of Junagadh acceded his state
to Pakistan in 1947, Samaldas headed a
government - in exile created by citizens of
junagadh to reflect the wishes of its majority
population who wished the state to become
part of India instead.
Swami Anand
• Swami Anand (Shri HimmatlalRamchandra Dave) was born on
8th September, 1887 at Shiyani village of Surendranagar District
of Gujarat State.
• He worked in the Kesari, the Marathi newspaper founded by
Bal GangadharTilak, in 1907.
• He was manager at Young India and jailed for one and half
years as a publisher for an article published in Young India.
• He was Vallabhbhai Patel's secretary during the Bardoli
Satyagraha of 1928.
• In 1930, he was again jailed for three years for participating in
Salt Satyagraha at Vile Parle in Bombay as 1942 Quit India
Movement.
Sardarsinh Rana
• Born on 10/4/1870 at Village KanthariyaDist-
surendranagar Gujarat.
• He was the pioneer to intimate arms war against British
rule in India started the era of bomb pistol among Indian
revolutionaries.
• Announced 4 scholarships for Indian students who
wanted to get higher education abroad. Savarkar was
among the students who received the scholarships.
• In 1907 " international Socialists Conference held at
Stuttgart, Germany, he designed the first tricolor Indian
National Flag..
Popatlal Vyas and Saryuben Vyas
• Freedom fighter and former home minister of Gujarat; he was
a cabinet minister in BabubhaiJashbhai Patel’s Government
from 1975 to 1980.
• During the 1942 Quit India movement he was among the few
freedom fighters to get an opportunity to take part in Surat’s
first flag hoisting ceremony after India got independence on
August 15,1947.
•He has his wifeSaryu participated actively in the freedom
movements and were part of the memorable movements of
freedom Struggle.
•During 1942 he was arrested and kept in Nashik Jail for 21
months.
Mahadev Desai
• Mahadev Desai was born on 1 January 1892 in the village of
Saras in surat.
• Mahadev Desai first met Gandhi Ji in 1915 , during 1919 when
the colonial government arrested Gandhi in Punjab, he named
Desai his heir.
• Desai was for the first time arrested and sentenced to a year in
prison in 1921.
• He was Gandhi's personal secretary for 25 years.

Babu Mool Chand Jain
•Babu Mool Chand Jain(2Oth August,1915 - 12th
September,1997),lovingly called Babuji, was a freedom fighter in
the Indian independenee movement, an Indian statesman and
parliamentarian, lawyer, social activist, and a kind family-man
dedicated to the ideals and principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
•He was imprisoned several times including during both pre-
independence and post-independence struggles.
•Because of his visionary philosophy, statesmanship and ethical
conduct, he was often referred to as "Gandhi of Haryana" by his
colleagues and co-workers.
•His biography'Rajniti ke Sant Swatantrata Sainaini Babu Mool
Chand Jain' was released on October 10,2017

Wazir Ram Singh Pathania
• Wazir Ram Singh Pathania was a brave warrior who prepared
a strategy against the British by contacting the displaced rulers.
• On the night of August 14, 1848, Ram Singh Pathania attacked
ShahpurKandi fort with about 400 young soldiers and killed
Many English soldiers .
• On August 15, 1848, Ram Singh Pathania captured the fort
and hoisted his flag on the ramparts of the fort.
• In a war with British army , during January 1849, Ram Singh
Pathania killed Lieutenant John Peel, the nephew of the then
Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel, with his sword.
• Ram Singh Pathania was captured and deported and
imprisoned in Singapore jail. This brave son was severely
tortured in the jail and acquired martyrdom.
Bhai Hirda Ram
• Hirda Ram, popularly known as 'Bhaiji' among the
revolutionaries, went on the path of revolution after getting
inspiration from the newspapers of 'Gadar Party' and Swami
Krishnanand.
• In 1914, he came in contact with Raas Bihari Bose,
Dr.Mathra Singh, Bhai Parmanand and Pingle etc. and later
became Raas Bihari Bose's confidant.
• On December 31, 1914, he participated in the secret meeting
of revolutionaries ,in which he got the job of making bombs.
The bombs prepared by them were used in the robbery of
Chaba.
• Bhai Hirdaram was sentenced to death under sections 121,
121A, 122, 131, 302/109 etc. of the Indian Penal Code and
sent to Cellular Jail Andaman .
•In the jail itself, he was introduced to the revolutionary Veer
Savarkar, where he underwent various tortures.
Pandit Padam Dev
• Pt. Padam Dev became a member of the Congress after
elementary education and Participated in non-cooperation
movement and Salt Satyagraha in 1930.
•He was among the founders of the Himalayan princely state.
He also did active work as the secretary of Praja Mandal.
•He was also the General Secretary of the Himalayan Hill States
Regional Council.
•He fought against forced labour in Rampur Bushahr. He led the
Suket movement and played the role of a chief commander in
ending the princely rule of Suket by launching a non-violent
attack.
•After independence, he was also a minister in the cabinet of
Himachal government. He was awarded the Tamrapatra by the
Government of India.

Maqbool Sherwani
• Mohd Maqbool Sherwani, a young 19 year old boy
single handedly thwarted the advance of raiders
(Kabilies) from Baramulla in 1947, thereby giving
valuable time to the Indian Army to land in Srinagar.
•He played a decisive role in saving Srinagar from falling
to the raiders.
•He was captured by the Kabilies and was killed by them.
He was buried in the graveyard of Baramulla Town with
full military honour.
Sarwanand Koul Premi
• Late Shri Sarwanand Koul “Premi” was born on
02.11.1924 at Soaf Shali village of District
Anantnag Kashmir.
•He was a freedom-fighter, philanthropist, an ardent
Gandhian, an eminent scholar and a social reformer.
•He was well known for his literary and cultural-work
for promotion of communal amity, harmony and
brotherhood in Kashmir
