ABOUT
US

St. Dominic School steps into its
sixties on the path of the educational
setting according to Don Bosco’s will.
The beginning point of this journey
is the love of the young by
Don Bosco and the Salesian
congregation.
“There are many stories

that have been told over time.”

Each time that we turn pages,
we may not show that we step into new ways.
Retracing our steps, discovering the wealth in the past,
and keeping a memory can help us discover

where we are from and where we will go.
New things are not only good,

but a fresh memory can also fulfill our lives.

The world that we dream may be another side

We should turn to the other side,

We always appreciate the fruits of
the tree, but if we look deeper into
the land, we are going to see roots
that silently feed every part of
the tree.

Digging deep into the origin of
the Salesian congregation that was
covered over time, we are going to
find Don Bosco’s heart, who loved
God with all his heart, and loved
neighbor as himself.

Don Bosco loves God by living his
life and honestly practicing his
priestly mission.

Don Bosco loves others by dedicat-
ing himself to educating young
people through his “oratory.”

playing was essential for young people’s devel-
opment, Don Bosco organized various games and
recreational activities for children and youths as
opportunities for maturing in body and mind.
Hence, young people ought to use energy in the
playing field for sports and for socialization.
Furthermore, he taught catechism as well as guid-
ed ways to follow the instructions. He also edu-
cated the value of virtues and morals to nurture
the youth’s minds, which can be compared to

The numbers of young people had increased beyond all
expectation at the oratory on Sundays and holidays.
When, quite unexpectedly, an unpleasant situation

occurs, the noise from the gatherings starts to interfere
with neighbors who live around the neighborhood,

and Don Bosco was blamed for that. Don Bosco and his
members would always meet in different places as there

were no permanent premises available. Finally, he was
able to acquire the permanent oratory in the suburb

of Valdocco. Thus, his core oratory was called

“Valdocco Oratory.”

Since 1863,

there has been an integration of the “School” system
and the oratory. After a few years, the development
of Salesians schools was expanded throughout Italy,
which greatly influenced the spread of the number
of Catholic schools in the second half of the 19th
century. Don Bosco passed away on January 31st,
1888. During his indefatigable life, he acknowledged
the number of Salesians had increased.

02 CONTINUE
THE EDUCATIONAL MISSION

The Don Bosco methodology of
setting education, which we called
the “Preventive System,” was a trea-
sure that we had to preserve. That
means we have to endeavor to
practice it with honesty. At the
same time, we have to adapt it to fit
into this modern world.

Don Bosco began his educative
mission with the vision that he
understood society in his time. We
believe that nowadays, young
people are still “fragile” in society
and need to be “protected.”

They need protection from
exploitation, advertising, and the
complexity of society and culture.
At the same time, they need to be
“protected” to let their “morning
light” fully shine.

“Preventive System,”

Don Bosco’s concepts and methods for youth pastoral work were heavily
influenced by Saint Philip Neri (1515-1595). Moreover, the two of them are

aware of the dynamics of children and have a similar expression, “Enjoy
yourself, be happy, and do not sin.” In particular, during a recess,

Saint Dominic students were like ants scurrying out of the colony.

The pedagogical approach, as
Don Bosco calls it, the “Preventive
System,” is based on the constant
presence and trust of relationships
between teachers and students.
Therefore, a teacher’s duty does not
only reflect safeguarding; in view, it
shows the triad of loving kindness as
the core of this preventive system.

In an atmosphere of benignity
and rejuvenation, Don Bosco is
the real role model who would
like to spend quality time talking
in such warm joviality with his dear
children. In addition, he kindly
advises and encourages them,
while sometimes he reminds them
for their own good with mercy.

INTEGRATE VIRTUE AND MORALITY

Returning to Don Bosco’s era,
we would find the value of several activities
that made children happy.
Drama was another activity they liked,
and it was Don Bosco’s method to integrate vir-
tue and morality into the performing arts.
The natural way of entertainment and
education was to watch and perform drama.
Because of his awareness regarding
the value of beautiful organizational culture,
Saint Dominic still kept drama in many school
festivals. It was a chance for students to
demonstrate their skills and the presentation
of their virtue and morality at the same time.
