From the 1830s to the revolution in 1848, the atmosphere of resistance
against foreign power and the requirement of reunification, called
“Risorgimento” by Italians, were widespread. Turin became the
center of Italian nationalism. At the same time, in the 1850s, Cavoir, a
known nationalist, was an important leader in the reunification of
Italy. As a result, we can trace his role in oratory history. He was a
leader in politics and government and one that was competent in
economics. Garibaldi was another important person at that time.
Both these names appear significantly in the history of Europe in the
same period as Don Bosco.

Don Bosco’s oratory was not removed from
the political history of Italy. Life, society, and
politics were fairly united. Don Bosco saw the
poor growing in slums, working in dark and
smelly places. He saw children carving stones,
being plasterers or bricklayers, and youths
working on scaffolds. He saw demanding
wages and employers taking advantage of
their employees. Don Bosco also saw the mili-
tia marching on roads and heard news about
the wars. Even little children in the oratory
were made aware of the wars. Thus, Don Bos-
co allowed children to play as soldiers, to feel,
practice, and maneuver like the soldiers they
heard about.

the basis of training. There was a profound relationship
between religious education and human development,

be good religious, and honest citizens.

SALESIAN SCOUT JAMBOREE
CHONBURI 2018

Boy scout activities are the activities used for
developing Saint Dominic students,

which offer the importance of continuous social development.

“Salesian Jamboree”

is a common activity among schools
in the Salesian community of Thailand.

They take turns being the hosts.
Saint Dominic School was the host of the 8th Salesian Jamboree,
which was set up at the Vajiravudh Scout Camp, Sriracha, Chonburi

from December 3–7, 2018.
The Student Affairs Department was responsible

for coordinating the purpose of the assembly.
There was an integration of the universal religious value
into boy scout activities and a presentation of Don Bosco’s life

to be the model and the inspiration.
The target of life exuberance and having God’s blessing were not for

oneself only, but also for others,

Building is a building to commemo-
rate the 200th anniversary of the
birth of Don Bosco. Even though he
passed away, we still felt his breath

WELCOMING THE RELICS OF DON BOSCO

NOVEMBER 2010

August 16, 2015 was the 200th anniversary of
Don Bosco’s birth. The Salesian congrega-
tion arranged this celebration enormously.
One part of the activity was taking Don
Bosco’s relics from Turin all around-
the-world voyage tour for people to be
able to closely pay respect his relic. When
the relics of Don Bosco arrived in Thailand
between November 18 and December 30,
2010, they had been recomposed and were
housed in a glass box. Furthermore,
Saint Dominic School welcomed the relics
of Don Bosco on the 19th of November 2010,

BICENTENARY BUILDING

The foundation, structure, architecture, equip-
ment installation, and other structural works were
all continuously and efficiently operated. All of
these were managed well along the construction
steps taken by the people who were responsible
for each part of the site until it was finished in 2019.
This building was completed and was ready for
use during the academic year of 2020.

Saint Dominic School.”

Cardinal Francis Xavier Kriengsak Kovithavanij,
the Archbishop of Bangkok, was the presider of
this worship rite and of the official blessing cer-
emony of the St. John Bosco’s Bicentenary
Building. On this special occasion, he also did
the blessing ceremony of Magone Arena and
S.D. Auditorium.

ST.JOHN BOSCO’S
BICENTENARY BUILDING

The St. John Bosco’s Bicentenary Building
was the external symbol that disclosed faithfulness
in the educational system of Don Bosco. He once said,

“Education is a matter of the heart...
we must love what children love.”

The building’s unstated goal was to serve as a permanent memorial
commemorating 200 years of Father and Teacher of the Youth.
It consisted of many activity rooms in order to support student
learning and conform to their capacity,
skills, and interests.

To contribute to the increasing traffic
problem within the vicinity of the school,
which further affected the external traffic
on the roads of the city, the St. John
Bosco’s Bicentenary Building was designed
to provide a parking area for 320 cars within
the building, which did not only decrease
the traffic congestion but also provided
convenience and security for parents
to pick up their sons.

Don Bosco’s relic was back in its place for a long time.
The memory and the celebration gradually faded
like the time on the clock;
it flew by quickly. Don Bosco was still among us.

It was not because of St. John Bosco’s statue in the building,

and it was not because of the big metal letters
attached in front of the building. In fact,

Don Bosco was among us because of the sound of friendship,
which harmonized with the sound of music
and with the sound of children,

who surrounded Don Bosco in Valdocco Oratory.
That sound is still audible today.
