EDITORIAL AVENUE lthough it seems a blink of an eye, the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya has also completed its second quarterly journey for the RI Year 2022-23. The passing of time suggests nothing but universality. Yet, the pen never fails to catch any moment. Thus, the sole pleasure of penning down the remarkable milestones of the entire club belongs to the Editorial Avenue. 35 A E D I T O R I A L Chronicle Let us catch sight of what the avenue itself has got during this secondary period of growth and learning. During this period, as one of the Technical Avenues of the club, the Editorial Avenue worked actively as usual with the special day captions and articles giving opportunities for its creative members to engage more with their own flair of writing. They further manifested their artistic skills through the literary, informative and innovative pieces of writing they submitted for the Creative Corner of the blog page of RACUOK. In December, the avenue also opened up a Christmas article series to share our fellow Rotaractors’ insights of the Holy Christmas. Thus, there were submissions of articles all glorifying Christmas and inspiring vigour. All these articles have been published in the official blog page of RACUOK. Notably, their enthusiasm paved way for an outstanding moment that made the blog stand out in its history reaching 500+ articles published so E d i t i o n T w o

The avenue also successfully publish the articles of all the projects of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, that have been completed up to date. This quarter is undoubtedly special for the Editorial Avenue and can be marked as a distinguished period in the editorial calendar. Apart from 36 E D I T O R I A L Chronicle reaching a milestone in the club’s blog, the avenue successfully completed its first project, could carry on a Christmas article series awed by the mostanticipated time of the year, and also began its “Chronicle” journey; the first quarterly magazine of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya. When it comes to “Click”, it is an innovative initiative organized by the Editorial Avenue as its first project for the year which focused on the current social and environmental issues and SDG goals. The project focused on raising awareness and bringing these unseen issues into spotlight through the art of photography and writing, additionally providing a platform for enthusiastic photographers and writers to showcase their flair and capabilities. “Click” was held as three phases which were as follows. EDITORIAL AVENUE 37 E D I T O R I A L Phase one was a photography competition where submissions were based on two main categories, which were social and environmental contexts. Meaningful photographs were received based on different themes such as poverty, generation gap, environmental pollution and many more which needed immense attention. Phase two was a trilingual creative writing competition which was based on the top six photographs of the phase one and thus heartfelt creative content was received which addressed these issues in unique perspectives and forms like descriptive articles, poems, short stories and Chronicle many more. 100+ submissions were received under the two phases and the winners were awarded at the final Award Ceremony. Phase three was an Online Webinar on photography conducted by Mr. Harsha Maduranga and was attended by more than 100 participants via Zoom on the 20th of November 2022. Finally, the Award Ceremony was held on the 18th of December 2022 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Kelaniya. The ceremony portrayed the avenue as an excellent team of creative and hardworking individuals who crossed their boundaries and excelled in enhancing the public image of RACUOK in the outer community. EDITORIAL AVENUE On the other hand, just after the completion of the project “Click”, the journey of the first edition of “Chronicle”, the quarterly newsletter of RACUOK began. The newsletter is to be published on a trilingual basis prioritizing all three of the official languages. Although it needed a prodigious amount of activity solely from the editorial end, more than half of the work has been accomplished during the second quarter namely avenue article updates, translations, insights from the Board of Directors etc. “Chronicle” is to be published with collaborative effort of the Digital Media Avenue during the month of January. It is obvious thus, this period has been really hectic for the Editorial Avenue. They carrying out multiple tasks at once prove to be one of the very versatile and energetic avenues of the club. CLUB RELATIONS AVENUE he Club Relations Avenue; taking the club relations beyond RACUOK, has been actively engaging within the club as well as outside the club. The project ‘Writing Maze' which was started at the beginning of the RI year has been successfully continuing in the second quarter, adding some amazing chapters to the book, that is yet to be published. With the active participation of 21 Clubs both in the Rotaract Chronicle 40 T C L U B R E LAT I O N S and the Interact movement, ‘Writing Maze’ weavers’ gatherings have become one of the greatest platforms for our young potential individuals. On the 27th of November 2022, the weavers of the Writing Maze, gathered together for the second time via Zoom, for another fun filled night with games and book talks. The District cluster initiative; the project TSL is one of the signature projects carried out by the CR avenue. This year, the project addresses one of the critical issues faced by the Sri Lankan students which is "Lack of IT literacy". E d i t i o n T w o
CLUB RELATIONS AVENUE The aim of the project is to provide a fully functioning IT laboratory, an IT teacher as a resource person and also to renovate the water infrastructure in the school premises. Starting from the second quarter, the team gave their maximum support to find sponsorships and donations for this worthy cause with following a field visit to the school on the 28th of October 2022. Towards the end of the second quarter, the CR avenue kick Writer Rtr. An ‘Outdoor Movie Night’, to strengthen the fellowship among both Rotaractors and Interactors and an ‘Art Exhibition’ to empower the blind community. DIGITAL MEDIA AVENUE 45 D I G I TA L M E D I A The avenue promotes enriching the flyer designing and video editing skills of each and every Rotaractor. The Digital Media Avenue conducted its first session on Photoshop designing via the Zoom platform on the 14th of October 2022. It was an impactful initiative to learn the strategies and methods of flyer designing. The session was conducted by Rtr. Harith Jayanath, the Co-Director of the Digital Media Avenue for the RI year 2022-23. The avenue is not only responsible for flyer designing but also video editing. Video editing has an emerging influence to attract the audience. It has become a winsome way for effective communication. The avenue Chronicle onducted a Zoom session on Premiere Pro by Rtr. Pramod Eshan, CoDirector of Digital Media Avenue for the RI year 2022-23, on the 21st of October 2022. The aim of theworkshop was to enable the creativeness of video editors, while encouraging the attendees to try something newin an innovative way. Both sessions were successfully conducted which was evident by the feedback of the participants. The newly appointed Team Leaders of the DM avenue were given the responsibility to coordinate with the avenue members regarding creating flyers and videos. The avenue members were provided with the support they needed to make sure that the standards of this creative art was held high. During the past four months, it embellished its work through the tremendous action of digital designing while helping to express the value of projects conducted by the club through the flyers and videos that are sent out. FINANCE AVENUE Month of October was indeed a very busy month for Finance Avenue especially because of the arrangements of the project Rotrallia. Since Rotrallia was a huge project, it was decided to release a new UOK t – shirt and accepting preorders was started in the month of October. Further, collecting advertisements for souvenirs and food stalls were held continuously. The date for the concert was confirmed as 13th of November 2022 and was revealed. To increase the interactions, the organizing committee decided to do a free ticket giveaway for 3 lucky winners. inance Avenue of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya has had a very hectic and a progressive three months’ period started from October to December. Being one of the back-end Technical Avenues of the club, in this RI year 2022-23 Finance Avenue took a huge step in order to develop the administrative fund of the club. It was by organizing the project “Rotrallia’22”, the biggest event in the history of the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, which was successfully held on the 13th of November 2022 with WAYO, a popular professional musical band in Sri Lanka. 48 F F I N A N C E Chronicle E d i t i o n T w o
FINANCE AVENUE On the 15th of October 2022, the band was revealed as “WAYO”. On 20th October 2022, the tickets were out for Rotrallia and the tickets priced LKR 800 were completely sold out within just two days after the release. FINANCE AVENUE Only few more days were left for the biggest revolution of RACUOK history. November was one of the most memorable months for all the undergraduates in the University of Kelaniya because of Rotrallia. Since it was the first musical concert inside the university after COVID 19 pandemic, it was indeed a revolution. When it was only few hours left for the concert, the tickets were completely sold out and the Dharmaloka Hall became housefull with a mesmerizing audience. It was one of the most successful projects in RACUOK history and everyone highly appreciated the organizing committee as the concert ended marking a great success. FINANCE AVENUE on the 19th December 2022, and the organizing committee was appointed afterwards. The initial preparations have been commenced for the next revolution, Investor’23. MEMBER RELATION AVENUE he Member Relations Avenue plays a significant role in the Rotaract Club of University of Kelaniya, promoting membership engagement and maintaining the fellowship and friendship among Rotaractors to ensure the club’s sustainability and productiveness. For the second term of the RI year 2022/23 the avenue organized an exciting event which was undoubtedly an indelible day to be added to the Rotaract diary. 56 T M E M B E R R E LAT I O N The project RotaRomp’22 was successfully carried out on the 19th of November 2022 at the Cyber ground of the university. The Organizing Committee of the event came up with the theme of Minions to decorate and promote the event. The organizing crew and members of the avenue also immensely contributed in planning and organizing the event and by putting up food stalls to raise funds. The project RotaRomp’22 was a fun day held for all the members of RACUOK with the aim of enhancing their enthusiasm, engagement, and fellowship. The Chronicle day consisted of entertaining games and fun activities which contributed in boosting interpersonal skills, communication skills, team spirit and leadership qualities in all participants. MEMBER RELATION AVENUE M E M B E R R E LAT I O N The event commenced with the welcome address delivered by Rtr. Yashodha Weerasekara, the Co-Director of the Member Relations Avenue. The event then continued with icebreakers and the organizing committee separated the members of the club present at the event into three teams each which had to come up with a team name and a cheer for the team. The teams were named as “Ayyo Sami '', “Shaka Boom” and “Team Tinder”. The teams had to take part in fun but challenging games including the Lava Walk, Balloon Caterpillar, Fill the Bottle and the Three-legged Rule. All the teams loved taking part in these fun games which enhanced the team spirit among all the participants. The most intriguing events were as follows, tug of war, the peni bambare, the communication challenge, and lastly the most thrilling treasure hunt. The treasure hunt was the most fascinating amongst them as the teams were each given a separate set of clues to uncover a hidden prize and the teams had to explore the university premises to find this prize. Both the treasure hunt and the overall event were declared to be won by “Team Tinder” . The awardees then received gifts, and Rtr. Hashan Koonara, the Co-Director of Member Relations Avenue, gave the vote of thanks in concluding the event. Also, we were able to create our second viral TikTok with the Sports and Entertainment Avenue gaining 19K views. Moving to the month of November, this month was a busy month for the Public Relations Avenue as it was for the club, as we had to handle the PR campaigns of Rotralia and other PR-heavy projects taking action. With that, the Public Relations Avenue also introduced new PR guidelines to the Avenue Directors for better management of content publishing. Also, with project Spotlight, a singing competition held by the Sports & Entertainment Avenue taking place, the Public Relations Avenue was able to successfully execute the club’s first YouTube-based competition gaining over 600+ new subscribers for the club channel. PUBLIC RELATIONS AVENUE The Christmas season was a very special month for Public Relations Avenue with executing three Christmas campaigns/projects. The Public Relations Avenue started off the month of Christmas with the “Share With Us; 12 Days of Christmas Countdown’’ challenge. This was an Instagram story Christmas countdown campaign to share the member’s Rotaract memories and have a throwback, such as 62 P U B L I C R E LAT I O N S Chronicle sharing their favorite Rotaract Moments, their favorite general meeting pictures, group pictures etc. The campaign was successfully concluded on the 25th of December by sharing the member’s Christmas wishes, gaining 54% reach on the Instagram account. On Christmas day, on behalf of the whole club, the Public Relations Avenue released a Christmas wish video, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Moving on to ‘’ChristmasToks‘’ done by the club, the Public Relations Avenue partnered with the Club Service aAvenue and was able to execute another successful competition through TikTok, gaining 23% Impressions for the club’s TikTok page.
