Department of Accountancy

Activities:

• For the intelligent students, Department of Accountancy runs the Advanced Learners’
Program which provides intensive coaching to students with O grade to produce our
future toppers. At present 25 students are coached for 120 lectures.

• Course Era (online certification course from various foreign universities) is introduced to
30 highly potential students.

• To make students aware about the current fiscal policy and its changes and impact, report
writing activity on Budget was conducted.

• Power Point Presentation Competition on GST was conducted on 13th March, 2019 in
which 87 students participated.

• To improve the results of the students, Remedial Lecture series was conducted for the
weak students.

• Similarly,RapidRevisionlectureswereconductedfrom25thMarch,2019to27thMarch,2019.

DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND

Activities: FINANCE

• The Orientation Programme for the F.Y.BAF students was organized on 26th July 2018.

• Learning “Accounting Concepts” with creativity Competition was conducted on 6th
September 2018 for F.Y.BAF students. 6 teams have participated in the competition.

• The Seminar on “Essential Interview Skills” for the S.Y.BAF and T.Y.BAF students
was organized on 21st August 2018. Mr. Nayan Gupta (Director- Enlight career
solutions) was the speaker of the seminar. 71 students have participated in the seminar.

• “Collage making with Creativity” Competition was organized on 25th August
2018 for S.Y.BAF students. 6 teams have participated in the competition.

• Department of BAF in association with BBI and BFM has organized One day
National Conference on “Equality and Inclusion” on 8th September 2018.

• The department has organized Learning based activity on the theme “Unity in Diversity”
on 24th September 2018 for F.Y.BAF students. 8 teams have participated in the competition.

• The department has organized a seminar on “Overview of GST” on 26th
September 2018. Mr.Manoj, practicing Advocate was the resource person.
S.Y.BAF and T.Y.BAF students have immensely benefitted from the session.

• Students of F.Y.BAF has visited Educational Trust on 26th December 2018, wherein they took
tuition for group of poor students of Class I to VIII and distributed free notebooks to them.

• As a part of Departmental Social Responsibility, students of F.Y.BAF have visited a
slum area and provided Food and Snacks for the poor people on 28th December 2018.

• Few girls of F.Y.BAF have visited CBM School on 5th January 2019 and
conducted awareness session on “Problems during menstruation” for the
girls students of standard IX and X and gave free sanitary pads to them.

• “Para legal training” session was conducted for the students of all the departments on
28th January 2019. The aim is to intimate them understanding of Constitution of India, its
statutes, provisions and proceedings. 60 students have participated in the session. Mr.Game,
Magistrate and Secretrary of Legal Aid Cell had conducted the introductory training session.

• An Intra Collegiate Quiz competition “Accfest was conducted on 11th January
2019. Around 80 students from different department has participated in the
Accounts related Quiz Competition. It was conducted by Ms.Kaleeshwari.

• The department has conducted Certificate Course on “Diploma in Accounting” for
commerce and non-commerce students. The objective of the course is to provide basic
knowledge about accounting and tax planning for non commerce students. 35 students
have successfully completed the course. It was conducted by CA Mathi Nadar.

DEPARTMENT OF BANKING AND

Activities: INSURANCE

• IBPS Orientation - On 2nd August 2018, IBPS Competitive Exam Orientation was
organized. Vantage team highlighted the importance of IBPS Exam. Around 120 students
attended the session and 51 students registered successfully for the additional course.

• Seminar on Mutual Fund - On 20th August 2018, seminar on Mutual fund was delivered by
Mr. Himanshu Jagmohan Mayne, CFP. The seminar highlighted about mutual fund industry,
working, reading of factsheets and career scope. Around 60 students attended the session.

• Workshop on paper bag making - On 24th August 2018 workshop on paper bag making was
conducted by SYBBI students. They also prepared cloth bags and sold the same. Around 83
cloth bags were made and 65 students attended the workshop. They earned around Rs. 1900.

• Seminar on Banking practical challenges and Knowledge - On 25th August 2018, the
students of FYBBI and TYBBI attended the seminar on Banking practical challenges
and knowledge. The seminar was conducted by Mr. Kartik Koteshwaran Naidu,
Assistant Manager from UCO Bank. Around 80 students attended the session.

• Game based learning on Research topics - On 4th September 2018 TYBBI students organised
Game based learning on research topics like random sampling, research design, hypothesis,
snowballsampling,datacollectionandinterpretation.Theycreativelypresentedgameswiththe
respectivetopicsandinterpretedtheconceptthroughgames.Around100studentsparticipated.

• National Conference on Equality and Inclusion - On 8th September 2018 a collaborative (BBI,
BFM and BAF) One day National conference on “Equality and Inclusion” sponsored by ICSSR
was organised. The Justice S C. Dharmadhikari was invited as a chief guest. Around 40 Abstract
was received from diverse field and 35 full paper was submitted. The first technical session
was chaired by Dr. Uma Shankar, Principal of SIES College and second technical session was
chaired by Dr. Karuna G.Gupta, Principal of Guru Nanak College of Education and Research.

• Intra collegiate competition on economics - On 12th September 2018 at college foyer area
Intra collegiate competition on economic concepts was organised. The students presented
creative working models and explained the concepts. The event was judged by Mr.
Krishnakumar Shukla of Bunts Sungha Anna Leela College of Commerce and Economics.
The best model (i.e. Circular Flow of Income) was selected and awarded with a certificate.

• Visit to NSDL - On 27th September 2018, around 25 students visited to NSDL organization.
The trainer of NSDL explained about NSDL and working of NSDL System. Also highlighted
about National Academic Depository (NAD), an initiative to facilitate centralised storage,
digital issuance, access and online verification of Academic Awards issued by Universities
in India. The visit ended with NAD registration of students.

• Training on Overviews of Financial Markets - On 1st October to 8th October 2018, FYBBI
students attended 8 hours training on “Overviews of Financial Markets”. Around 60 students
attended the training and 50 students were rewarded with certificate by BSE FORUM.

• Secret Santa - On 24th December 2018, FYBBI students
organised secret santa by gifting each other and sharing the joy.

• Visit to BSE - On 14th and 15th January 2019 FYBBI students visited BSE and gained
knowledge about Indian Capital Market, Indian Economy, and basic knowledge of
share market and brokers office to study about live terminal. Total 50 students attended.

• Organised One day intercollegiate workshop “Mind Power”
on 15th Feb 2019 at 9:00 am around 100 students participated.

• Arranged Guest Lecture on “Currency Markets and its Dynamics” was delivered by Dr.
Ketan S. Vira the core faculty of GNVS Institute of Management on 16th March 2019 at 9:30
am.

• Arranged Guest Lecture on “Practical Knowledge on Risk, Claims and Settlement
in Insurance” was delivered by Mr. Rajesh Dedhia (CWM) the Executive
Director of Vantage Knowledge Academy Ltd on 26th March 2019 at 11am.

• A team of Sonali Bhauryal, Kamal Lase, Pranjal Shrimali, Sachin Yadav and
Brijesh kumar participated in the intra collegiate Economic Concept presentation
on 12th September 2018 and won 1st Prize for innovative model presentation.

• Sonali Bhauryal and Ms. Pranjal Shrimali (FYBBI) presented the paper title on
“A study to analyse the problems faced by lower middle class girls to complete
their undergraduate education in Mumbai” in the Inter-Collegiate Research paper
presentation competition organized by SIES College on 29th September 2018.

• Rushali Ramchandra Nikam (TYBBI) had participated and presented on 9th
March 2019, the paper titled “A study to analyse customers approach towards
internet banking” in the Inter-Collegiate Research paper presentation competition
on the theme “Issues and Challenges in Commerce and Management in the
Global Era” organized by Commerce Department of Guru Nanak College.

• Nikita Suryakant Koli (TYBBI) had participated and presented on 9th March
2019, the paper titled “A study to analyse customer’s preference toward investment
in Mumbai” in the Inter-Collegiate Research paper presentation competition
on the theme “Issues and Challenges in Commerce and Management in the
Global Era” organized by Commerce Department of Guru Nanak College.

• Pooja Rammilan Patwa (TYBBI) had participated and presented on 9th March 2019, the
paper titled “Demonetization and its effects in Mumbai” in the Inter-Collegiate Research
paper presentation competition on the theme “Issues and Challenges in Commerce and
Management in the Global Era” organized by Commerce Department of Guru Nanak College.

MANAGEMENT

Activities

• Tax Awareness and Legality on Tax Avoidance – On 10th August 2018, FYBFM and
SYBFM students organized Tax awareness and Legality on Tax Avoidance activity wherein
the students played the role of tax advisor and also a Nukkad Natak on the importance
of paying tax was presented by the students. Total 25 students participated in the activity.

• Session on “Financial Wellness” by NSE – On 16th August 2018, BFM Department
organised a session on Financial wellness by NSE Total 66 students attended the session. The
session highlighted the following: Budgeting, Savings and Investments, Effect of Inflation
on Investment, IPO, Risk on return, Asset allocation strategy, power of compounding.

• Library Orientation - FYBFM students attended library orientation conducted
by Mrs. Anuradha M Namjoshi Librarian. The Orientation highlighted
the following: overview about the library usage, rules and regulations.

• Seminar by S9 Financial Planners – On 21st August 2018, BFM Department organised
a seminar on career scope as a financial planner by S9 financial planners. Total 60
students attended the seminar. The session highlighted the following: Awareness about
various certified courses, Money management, Financial planning, Start – up business.

• Seminar on “B2B - B2C Awareness and Business Opportunity in Equity Market” by
Angel Broking – On 24th August 2018, BFM Department organized a seminar on
B2B – B2C awareness and business opportunity in Equity Market by Angel Broking.
Total 65 students attended the seminar. The speakers were Mr. Sandeep Kothana-
National Head B2B, Mr. Nikhil Gohil -Business Development Manager. The session
highlighted the following: Software that forecast the future and gives output about the
stock value, Basics of B2B and B2C, History and technological aspect of Angel broking.

• Conference on Equality and Inclusion - BFM Department organized a collaborative (BBI
and BAF) One day National conference on Equality and Inclusion on 8th September 2018.
The Justice S C. Dharmadhikari was invited as a chief guest. Around 40 Abstract was received
from diverse field and 35 full paper was submitted by the authors. The first technical session

• FIMA FIESTA – On 11th September 2018, BFM Department organised FIMA FIESTA –
Management Games. The event was organised by 1st and 2nd year students. The Games
were as follows: Logo game, presence of mind, Eat the biscuit, speed of mind, partners
benefit, and knowledge master.

• Session by- Institute of Cost Accountant of India – On 24th September 2018,
BFM Department organised a career counselling program for students to apprise
about CMA (Cost and Management Accounting) course by the Institute of Cost
Accountants of India. The speaker was Mr. Srinivas Bala – Cost Accountant. Total
105 students of various department attended the session. The session highlighted
about: Eligibility criteria for CMA, Course details, Registration procedure and fees.

• Financial Mela 2018 – On 25th September 2018, BFM Department organised Financial Mela
– An Intercollegiate Competition to present innovative working models. The themes for the
competition were as follows: Financial Markets, Financial Management, Financial Reporting,
and Financial Inclusion. Total 11 teams of 5 members each participated from different colleges.

• Visit to NSDL (National Securities Depository Limited) – On 27th September 2018, BFM
Department organised a visit to NSDL and around 25 students were given the opportunity.
The trainer of NSDL explained about the NSDL and the working of NSDL System. Also

• A guest lecture by Dr. Arun Poojari, Vice Principal of Lala Lajpatrai College was
organized for the FYBMS students opting for Marketing on 13th March 2018.

• As a part of Public Relations activity, students of TYBMS visited
pre-schools and conducted play workshops for the children.

• As a part of Social Responsibility, awareness regarding ‘REPLACMENT OF PLASTIC
BAGS WITH JUTE BAGS’ was created among the women from weaker section of society.

• Students of BMS actively participated in the intercollegiate event
“ZEAL” which was conducted on 1st and 2nd February 2018.

• Students went on a six days industrial visit to Rajasthan from 6th to 11th February 2018.

• On 18th August 2018, TYBMS students organized an interactive session with FYBMS to build
a good rapport with the new entrants in the department and also conducted a talent hunt,
in which many fybms students participated by singing, dancing , mimicry, mono-acting etc.

• On 26th September 2018, Dr. Tejas Lokhande was invited as a Resource Person for
a seminar on “Selfie - Self and Mind Analysis” in which 90 students participated.

• On 6th February 2019, one day study trip to Lonavala for Tybms and Sybms students was
organized in which 31 students participated.

• On 11th February 2019, a guest lecture by Dr. Ketan Vira was organized on the topic
“Changing Retail Dynamics: Challenges and Avenues”

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

• Activities

• S.Y.B.Sc. Students were taken to Veer Jijamat Udyan, Byculla on 13th July
2018. 26 students were present. The students learned the flora of the Udyan.

• S.Y.B.Sc. Students were taken to Blatter Herbarium, St. Xavier’s College,
on 17th July 2018. 24 students were present. Students learned the
technique of plant preservation and also to prepare the herbarium.

• F.Y.BSc students were taken to Yeoor Hills, Thane on 31st
August 2018, for excursion as a part of their academics.

• Department had organized a two day workshop on ‘Indoor Gardening’ on 7-8th September
2018. Total 20 participants from various colleges had participated. On 1st day of workshop,
session was conducted by Dr.Shrutika Kumthekar,Faculty, Gurunanak College on cultivation
of indoor plants, terrarium, dish and tub gardening. On 2nd day of workshop, session was
taken by Mr. Rajkumar, Horticulture consultant on vertical wall, and each participant
contributed to build a vertical wall in college campus. The workshop was end with valedictory.

• Through the workshop department was able to construct a vertical wall in college premises.
• F.Y.BSc Students have participated in SCI – CODE 2018, an intercollegiate competition

organized by K.C college, Churchgate on 25th September 2018. Total 10 students
participated in various events like Biojewellary, Salad making, floral rangoli.
• S.Y.BSc Students participated in ‘Botanica’ – Intercollagiate competition
organized by Ramnirajan Jhunjhunwala College on 10th September 2018.
Total 10 students participated in Floral Rangoli and Flower Arrangement.
• BoatnyResearchStudentsparticipatedinzonalroundofAvishkar–13thReseacrhCompetition
University with two projects on 17th December 2018 at S.M.SHETTY College, Powai.
• Dr. Shrutika Kumthekar arranged a two days workshop for S.Y.BSc Botany
students on ‘Basic Techniques in Microbiolgy’ on 7th and 8th December 2018.
• F.Y.BSc 10 students participated in State level Intercollagiate competition organized by D.T.S.S
College, Malad on 30th January 2019. The competition was based on Enviornment Related
working models and power point presentation. Two group of students (Phytoremediation
and Flood alarm) bagged 2nd prize and consolation prize in this competition.
• S.Y.BSc 3 students attended workshop on Gel Electrophoresis at B.N.N College, Bhiwandi
on 15th February 2019.

• F.Y.BSc 02 students have participated in Online Botany quiz competition organized by
Late Ramesh Warpudkar ACS college, Sonpeth, Parbhani, Maharashtra on 5th March 2019.

• Ms Zainab Choudhary submitted her synopsis of MSc by Research under the guidance of Dr. Charuta
Vaidya .

Dr. Shrutika Kumthekar
• Invited as a Resource person for workshop on ‘Organic Gardening’ to conduct a session on Prop-

agation of Plants in Autonomous Ramnarian Ruia College, Mumbai on 22nd Sept 2018. 1- 4pm.
• Invited as an external examiner and moderator for F.Y, S.Y and T.Y

Green House Management at Ramnarian Ruia College, Mumbai.
• Attended two day workshop on Research Methodology and Research Data Analysis organized by Recyclers

Foundation in association with Department of Biotechnology, University of Mumbai on 25th – 26th Feb-
ruary 2019.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

The department has three teachers, Dr. R. N. Nadar, Dr. Paul A and Dr. Ramraj T, all of them
have more than twenty five years experience. All have acquired Ph.D. degree from University
of Mumbai. The department has a Recognized Research Centre for Commerce. Dr. Paulraj and
Dr. Ramraj are the registered Ph.D. guides for Banking & Finance area under University of
Mumbai. Dr. R. N. Nadar, the head of department is also assuming the role of Vice principal
and M.Com coordinator. Both Dr. R. N. Nadar and Dr. Ramraj guide the M.Com students in
research, and assist in completing the official project work for 100 marks. Dr. Ramraj has two
registered students of Ph.D.
The department has an established practice of encouraging students to do research activities,
training students for participation in competitive activities conducted in other colleges and at
University. Two students participated and presented their research papers at K.E.S. College,
Mumbai on 4th September 2018. Ten Students attended the lecture “My Business Journey” by
Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani at IMC on 31-08-2018. Guidance and expert lectures are arranged
for students to have external exposure. Different lectures/activities arranged during 2018-19
are:
1. Certificate Course on “Overviews of Financial Market” to Students scheduled from 12th

February 2019 to 16th February 2019.
2. Commerce and Management Quiz Competition organized on 14th February 2019.
3. Study visit to BSE on 6th March and 7th March 2019.(105 students)
4. Avenues after Graduation guidance lecture by Prof. Raspal Kaur, GNVS IOM on 6th

February 2019.
Every year, the department conducts a students’ research convention, where we call for
research papers for presentation, and the best researchers and presenters are awarded prices
and all participants get the certificates. The last year’s title for the Research Paper presentation
competition was “Issues and Challenges in Commerce and Management in the Global Era”
held on 9th March 2019. Around hundred students participate in this programme every year.

• Dr. Nadar is the Chairperson, Chief moderator and paper setter of Advanced Cost

Accounting course of M. Com (Accountancy) programme of University of Mumbai. He is
the moderator of B.Com papers - Marketing - Sem V, and Human Resource Management -
Sem VI, University of Mumbai. He has published the following research papers:

Dr. Paulraj
• Dr. Paulraj has co-authored the Book: E-commerce for M.Com, Part-I, Sem-II, of

Advertising course at Mithibhai College, Vile Parle in November & April exams.
• He has completed a Minor Research Project from University Of Mumbai, with The Topic
“Spending habits of youth in India with special reference to Mumbai city in August 2018.
• Participated in one day International Inter-disciplinary National Conference
on Corporate social Responsibility and Sustainability development Organised
by K.P.B. Hinduja College of Commerce with ICSSR, theme: Harmonisation
of Sustainability Reporting Standards a need of an Hour on 22nd March 2019.

by B. K. Birla College, Kalyan on 14th and 15th December 2018.
• 40 students (2 batches of 20 each) participated in special session of Audio-Visual

Presentation to test their listening skill on 24th December 2018 and 3rd January 2019.
• 3 students participated in ‘Madhu Limaye Intercollegiate Elocution

Competition’ organized by Kirti College, Mumbai on 8th January 2019.

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL

• Activities STUDIES

• The Department of Environmental Studies aims at creating Environmental
Awareness among students and encouraging them to adopt Environment Friendly
Lifestyle to realize their responsibility towards Sustainability of Environment.

• Department of Environmental Studies along with Department of History had organized
the Celebration of World Tourism Day with the objective of making students understand
the importance of World Tourism Day and to develop curiosity with the creative vision of
our cultural past. The main theme of the event was “Indian Culture and Heritage”. Quiz and
Photography competition was organized wherein 52 and 34 students participated respectively.

• An intra-collegiate competition on “The Upcycling Project- Creating Art out of
Trash” was organized on 20th February, 2019 in which 35 students participated.

• To sensitize the student community about plastic pollution, Department of Environmental
Studies along with Environmental Mentoring Committee had organized an Inter-
collegiate event on “Defeat Plastic Pollution” in collaboration with BMC F-North ward.
There were altogether seven competitions in this event. A total of 425 students from 30
colleges of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane participated in 7 different competitions.

• Department of Environmental Studies along with Environmental Mentoring
Committee had organized a workshop on “Home Composting” for students and
staff members of the college on 7th December, 2018. 16 students and 3 teaching
staff, 1 non teaching and Principal Dr. Vijay Dabholkar had successfully completed
this workshop. Ms. Rashmi Joshi was invited as an expert to conduct this workshop.

• A one-day field visit to Maharashtra Nature Park was organized on 2nd March, 2019, for the
students of F.Y.B.Com. A total of 98 students participated in this visit. The objective of this visit
was to help explore nature in nearby locality, to understand the rich bio-diversity of the park
and to understand how a waste land can be turned into a green space in a city like Mumbai.

• On the occasion of National Tourism Day, a documentary movie screening was organized
for Tourism students of S.Y.B.Com and S.Y.B.A on 31st January, 2019. The documentary
screened “Killing Ladakh” highlighted the negative impact of tourism on environment.
A total of 85 students participated in this movie screening. Its objective was to make
students understand the impact of unregulated tourism on the fragile environment.

• “The Last Drop- India’s Water Crisis” a documentary movie which highlighted water
problems, water pollution, water scarcity etc. in different parts of India was shown to 122
students on 7th February, 2018.
