COMMITTEE REPORTS







The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college was established in 2006 and has been
INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL
working towards realizing the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance.
In 2016-17, the IQAC has made significant contribution towards improving the performance
of the college in all areas. In pursuance of the themes for the year, namely Skill Development
and Value Education, events were arranged for staff and students.
The year commenced with the observance of Yoga Day. All students and staff experienced
the wellness that yoga is associated with. Students and faculty members enjoyed the class
even as they struggled through several poses. The benefits of focusing on breath, practicing
mindfulness and pranayama were highlighted in this program conducted by Shiv Ganesh Yoga
Institute.
Talk by ‘Brahma Kumaris’ on positive thinking and affirmations was arranged in August 2017.
The college also hosted the International Youth Fellowship, under which it invited speakers
from South Korea. Our students interacted with the South Korean students and participated
in a cultural program.
The IQAC organized a two days’ International Seminar on “Design, Development and
Deliverance of Skill Objectives in Higher Education Institutions” on 14th and 15th Sep. 2016.
The IQAC also organized a one day workshop on “Skilling for Effectiveness and Optimization
in Office Administration” for non-teaching staff on 28th Feb 2017.
The college also introduced two new programs, B.F.M. and M.Sc. (I.T.) in this academic year.
The Chaka Chak G.T.B. Nagar program continued with the same zeal and enthusiasm as it
began in 2015.









“English speaking skills” in students is imperative from the job and career perspectives. The language lab
equipped with suitable software is frequented by the students.
Conducting regular academic and administrative audit is a function of IQAC. The college offered itself for
an academic audit and the University of Mumbai deputed a team of 3 experts who visited the college on 5th
October 2016. The experts gave valuable suggestions to enhance the functioning of departments and to instill
quality in teaching-learning and Research.
The quality of teaching and the student support that the college offers was reviewed and monitored through
a feedback from the parents and students.
“Mission Excellence” was launched in Aug. 2016 with the objective of enhancing college results and motivating
the advance learners to excel. Ms. Manju Nichani motivated the students to strive hard to achieve academic
excellence.
The UGC recognized Community College saw its first batch successfully complete the Diploma Program in
Retail Management. Many students have also been placed in retail firms in Mumbai.
Industrial Visits were conducted for various courses to promote experiential learning.
The mission of creating a competent human resource continues to drive and direct the activities of IQAC.
Creating an environment where quality becomes a habit is the vision of the IQAC of Guru Nanak College.

Guru Nanak College as the part of Swachh Bharat Mission. The Yoga
programme at the Station was inaugurated by the Station Master Mr.
S. M. Pasle & Asst. Station Master Mr. V. G. Pillai and the Yoga Master
Mr. Ramesh Sarole. Many yoga asanas were performed in public under
the guidance of the Yoga teachers, where our students and members
of the general public participated.

with “Rang Manache Dhang Marathiche” on 13th Jan.
2017. The Program was inaugurated by renowned singer
Smt Sulochana Chavan and her son Mr. Vijay Chavan.
The event saw good participation by students and staff
members. They sang songs, recited poems and presented
folk dances.






















Marathi Bhasha Divas was celebrated on 27th Feb 2017. A renowned Marathi comedy actor Mr. Ajit Kelker
was invited as a guest for this occasion. He performed two famous characters from Marathi drama and spoke
about Marathi drama and the different dialects in Marathi.


















“Marathi Sahitya Darpan” was organized on 14th January to
promote Marathi reading habit amongst students. This event
was held in the library where Students and Staff Members read
abstracts from various Marathi books.

SPECIAL RESIDENTIAL CAMP
A Special Residential Camp was organised by the NSS UNIT of Guru Nanak
College from 27th December 2016 to 2nd January 2017 at Bhatsai Village
Vashind. 67 volunteers participated in this Camp under the guidance of Mr.
Santosh Pathare and Mr. Dhananjay Channale. The Volunteers visited Sant
Gadge Maharaj Ashramshala. They Conduted the English Classes and held
various competitions for the students of 5th,6th and 7th class. They even

SPECIAL RESIDENTIAL CAMP
A Special Residential Camp was organised by the NSS UNIT of Guru Nanak
College from 27th December 2016 to 2nd January 2017 at Bhatsai Village
Vashind. 67 volunteers participated in this Camp under the guidance of Mr.
Santosh Pathare and Mr. Dhananjay Channale. The Volunteers visited Sant
Gadge Maharaj Ashramshala. They Conduted the English Classes and held
various competitions for the students of 5th,6th and 7th class. They even

The Performing Arts Committee provides rich cultural experiences for students by organizing
various cultural competitions and programs. Committee also takes keen interest in coordinating
the participation of students in different intercollegiate competitions. Such activities provide a
platform for the students to exhibit their talents in cultural activities.
In 2016-17, 28 students participated in 49th Youth festival organized by University of Mumbai.
Students participated in 17 events under the categories of Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Literary
Arts on 9th and 11th August 2016 at V. Z. Vaze College, Mulund and I.C.L. Motilal Jhunjhunwala
college, Vashi respectively.

The following were the highlights of Anveshan in 2016-17:
1) Guest Lecture on “Opportunities in Research” by Mr. Rohan Oak was on 23rd July 2016.
2) A personality development programme was conducted by Mr. Shreepad Parkhe from 3rd -10th August 2016.
3) The following research topics were distributed faculty wise to the different research groups:
a) Chemistry - Synthesis of Nano Catalyst and its uses in different organic reactions
b) Physics - Nanoferrites.
c) Mathematics - Applications of math in different fields.
d) Botany - Phytochemistry and biochemistry of Medicinal plants
4) Botany research group presented a poster at G. M. Momin’s College on 15th December 2016.
5) The Anveshan research group were taken on a visit to milk processing unit (Gaushala) at Vapi on 15th
January 2017.
6) Research groups in the subjects of Physics, Maths and Botany presented their posters at “Gigyasa, Science
Honors Program” organized by K.C. college, Churchgate, on 15th February 2017 where in the Maths and
Physics group bagged the 2nd prize.
7) Research groups in the subjects of Chemistry, Physics and Botany presented their posters at the National
conference on ‘Green Technologies in Day-to-Day Life’ organized by Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak
College, GTB Nagar on 18th February 2017. They were judged under the student category wherein the Physics

institutions. Few speakers spoke on Guru Nanak Dev ji’s life and
teachings. A short documentary which focused on Guru Nanak Sahib
ji’s contribution to world and humanity was screened. The program
ended with the Vote of thanks by Dr. Surinder Kaur-Incharge Sikh

Study Circle.
Notable was the sewa offered by Sewak Jatha Dadar in preparing and
serving Langar. 1,100 devotees partake Langar on the day. Sardar Balbir On the commemoration of tri-centenary of martyrdom
Singh, representative of Sewak Jatha Dadar was felicitated by Principal. of Great Sikh General Baba Banda Singh Bahadar, the
Sikh Study circle presented a complete play on his life
named ‘MEIN BANDA BAIKHARID’. This play was
staged several times on on many stages. It was last pre-
sented on 22nd May 2016 in Guru Nanak Centre for

Performing Arts, Sion and on 26th June 2016 at Shere
Punjab, Andheri. Written, directed and narrated by Dr.
Surinder Kaur.

340 students were taken for the movie “Pink” at Big Cinemas Wadala.










The WDC organized a three day workshop in

collaboration with Bhartiya Jain Sangathana
on the 5th, 6th and 7th of August 2016. The
workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest
Principal Dr. Jitentdra Aherkare. It consisted of

5 module with 10 sessions, such as Me and my
family relationships, Friends and their influence,
Impact of media and technology, Marriage and the
Preparedness, Parenting the girls.

50 girls Participated in the workshop. 8 sessions
were for the students and 2 sessions were for
the parents.. Mr. Rakesh Jain from Bhartiya Jain
Sangathana was the guest of honour for the

valedictory function. Participation Certificates
were given to the girls students who completed
the 3 day workshop.

























Mrs. Maitreyi Nigwekar Founder & CEO, Adveka Foundation Conducted a workshop for our
girls students on the 5th of March 2017. 60 students attended this workshop.

WOMEN DEVELOPMENT CELL







340 students were taken for the movie “Pink” at Big Cinemas Wadala.










The WDC organized a three day workshop in

collaboration with Bhartiya Jain Sangathana
on the 5th, 6th and 7th of August 2016. The
workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest
Principal Dr. Jitentdra Aherkare. It consisted of

5 module with 10 sessions, such as Me and my
family relationships, Friends and their influence,
Impact of media and technology, Marriage and the
Preparedness, Parenting the girls.

50 girls Participated in the workshop. 8 sessions
were for the students and 2 sessions were for
the parents.. Mr. Rakesh Jain from Bhartiya Jain
Sangathana was the guest of honour for the

valedictory function. Participation Certificates
were given to the girls students who completed
the 3 day workshop.

























Mrs. Maitreyi Nigwekar Founder & CEO, Adveka Foundation Conducted a workshop for our
girls students on the 5th of March 2017. 60 students attended this workshop.
