número creciente de visitantes de EEUU, Canadá y el resto del mundo, las oportuni-
dades de inversión en el sector de viajes y turismo son abundantes. Honduras tiene
todo lo necesario para impulsar y sostener una robusta industria turística. Mientras los

Con la Ley de Incentivos al Turismo emitida en el año 2002, se eliminaron los impuestos
y tarifas sobre las importaciones de equipos y otros materiales e insumos necesarios
para construir y poner en marcha nuevos proyectos turísticos. Entre los proyectos
elegibles para estos beneficios se incluyen: la industria del hospedaje y resorts, tour

With the Tourism Incentives Law, approved in 2002, the duties and tariffs related to the

todo el país, entre ellos: canopy o tirolesa, canotaje y
otros deportes acuáticos, observación de aves, sender-
ismo, escalada de rocas, y baño en aguas termales.

There is a great diversity of flora, with presence of more than
60 varieties of plant ecosystems. Diversity of fauna can be
observed, among which the Red Macaw, the National Bird of
Honduras, stands out. You can enjoy a variety of activities
and sports throughout the country, including: canopy, canoe-
ing, rafting and other water sports, bird watching, hiking, rock
climbing, and bathing in hot springs.

Inclusive en la zona de San Pedro Sula existen 3 futuros
destinos de turismo arqueológico: el Parque Arqueológico
Currusté, la laguna de Jucutuma y el Jardín Botánico de El
Ocotillo. Sin embargo, el reciente descubrimiento de
mayor impacto a nivel mundial es la Ciudad Blanca, en la
selva de La Mosquitia.

española se manifestó en todas las actividades de la vida diaria. Ahora, Honduras es el
segundo país con mayor patrimonio colonial tangible en toda Centroamérica.

Gracias, en el departamento de Lempira, fue la primera ciudad colonial del país.
Debido a los abundantes recursos naturales de la zona, en 1544 fue proclamada
primera capital de la región centroamericana. Es una ciudad de calles adoquinadas,
hogar de muchos edificios históricos, iglesias y una fortaleza del siglo XIX llamada el
Fuerte de San Cristóbal. La estructura fue edificada para la defensa militar de la
ciudad, y dentro del predio se encuentra la tumba del gobernante hondureño Juan
Lindo. Muy cerca de Gracias, el visitante puede disfrutar de relajantes aguas termales
y otras ciudades con extraordinarias iglesias de los siglos 16 y 17 que representan la
fusión de la cultura lenca con la cultura colonial española.

Comayagua, la ciudad más colonial de Honduras, está ubicada en medio del produc-
tivo valle de Comayagua en el centro de Honduras. Durante la colonia fue la capital de
la Federación centroamericana, de la anexión al Imperio Mexicano y de la república
independiente hasta 1880. La ciudad ofrece lindas iglesias con valor artístico, sobre
todo barrocas, retablos destacados e imágenes valiosas. Su catedral, dedicada a la
Inmaculada Concepción, es la más importante, con una fachada llena de detalles que
‘se proyectan’ sobre la plaza frente a ella y una torre donde funciona uno de los relojes
más antiguos de América, fabricado en 1100. También es popular la Iglesia y convento
de San Francisco, donde se puede apreciar la campana más antigua de América
(1460), así como la Iglesia de La Caridad, donde se encuentran los restos de la única
iglesia de indios de Honduras. Además del arte religioso y piezas precolombinas de sus
museos, en Semana Santa se pueden ver las calles del casco histórico de Comayagua
‘alfombradas’ con aserrín de colores en hermosos diseños, tendido al paso de las
procesiones.

manifested itself in all the activities of daily life. Now, Honduras is the country with the
second highest tangible colonial heritage in Central America.

Gracias, in the department of Lempira, was the first colonial city of the country. Due to the
abundant natural resources of the region, in 1544 it was proclaimed the first capital during
the colony. It is a city of cobbled streets, home to many historic buildings, churches and a
19th century fortress called the Fort of San Cristobal. The structure was built for the military
defense of the city, and one of the highlights found there is the tomb of the Honduran ruler
Juan Lindo. Just a few kilometers from the Fort and the city of Gracias, the visitor finds
relaxing hot springs and other smaller cities with extraordinary churches from the 16th and
17th centuries that represent the fusion of the Lenca culture with the Spanish colonial
culture.

Comayagua, the most colonial city in Honduras, is located in the productive Comayagua
Valley, in central Honduras. It was the capital during the colony, of the Central American
Federation, during the annexation to the Mexican Empire, and of the independent republic
until 1880. The city offers beautiful churches, mainly Baroque with artistic value, with
outstanding altarpieces and valuable images. Its cathedral, dedicated to the Immaculate
Conception, is the most important, with a detailed façade above the square and a tower that
holds one of the oldest working clocks in America, made in 1100. The San Francisco church
and convent, where you can appreciate the oldest bell in America (1460), is popular, as well
as La Caridad Church, where the remains of the only Indian Church of Honduras are still
found. In addition to the religious art and pre-Columbian pieces of its museums, during the
Easter holiday you can see the streets of the historical center of Comayagua 'carpeted' with
colorful sawdust in beautiful designs as a pathway for the processions.

mente la actividad económica de los parques industriales
y las fábricas, especialmente textiles, repesenta la
segunda fuente de ingresos del país. Rodeada de bellas
montañas y grandes extensiones de caña de azúcar y
banano, San Pedro Sula es conocida como la ciudad
industrial de Centroamérica.

Among modern cities, Tegucigalpa, the capital, and San Pedro

Both businesses and immigrants came to the area because of
the opportunity that banana companies represented in the
19th century, as well as for its proximity with Puerto Cortes.
Today, the economic activity of industrial parks and factories,
especially textile ones, generate the country's second largest
source of income. Surrounded by beautiful mountains and
large extensions of sugar cane and banana plantations, San
Pedro Sula is known as the industrial hub of Central America.

The Atlantic coast extends across approximately 700 km of
white sandy beaches and beautiful vegetation with great
potential for tourist development. The Bay Islands are one of
the top Premium diving destinations in the world, with easy
access to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second longest
in the world, and with an impressive diversity of marine life.

Roatan is the best of the Caribbean, with its wonderful coral
reef, crystalline and warm waters in bluish tones, white
beaches and a mountainous topography. Specialized tourism
magazines have chosen it among the best islands in the world
for vacations, especially the paradisiacal West Bay beach,
with fine white sand, turquoise waters and the coral reef just
a few meters offshore.

Guanaja, or Pine Island for its Pinus Caribaea forests, was
discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502. On one hand,
the island represents tranquility, marine and submarine
beauty, and impressive biodiversity; and on the other, history,
archeology and exquisite Criollo cocoa beans. Plan Grande is
a little known archaeological site, and the cocoa grown on the
island is praised in high-end international chocolate markets.

Utila es un paraíso lleno de pequeños cayos, imán para

Cayos Cochinos es un hermoso archipiélago formado por
13 cayos y pequeñas islas del caribe muy cerca del puerto
de La Ceiba. Por su enorme riqueza natural, el gobierno de
Honduras declaró el archipiélago como zona protegida en
calidad de Monumento Nacional Marino. Hay transporte
disponible desde Roatán, Utila y desde varias localidades
cerca de La Ceiba.

Trujillo es un puerto histórico de la época colonial
apartado de las rutas turísticas tradicionales. Cuenta con
una amplia bahía profunda y quizás las playas más bellas
de la costa norte de Honduras. Un mar tranquilo de aguas
tibias y cristalinas convierte el entorno en un estanque
