h

Let me once more set forth the Bhavan’s faith for the beneit of new
students and members, for it is necessary that they should understand it
clearly and imbibe its spirit. The Bhavan stands for the reintegration of Indian
culture.
In a world falling to pieces under the impact of an amoral technological
avalanche, it tries to hold fast to the fundamental values for which our
culture stands-

RITA, SATYA , YAGNA, AND TAPAS.
FAITH in God, Who is in the form of the cosmic order:
TRUTH which is accord between mind, word and deed;
DEDICATION which offers all movements of life as an offering to God,
SUBLIMATION which puriies the body and mind and transmutes instincts,

passions and emotions into things of beauty.
This, regardless of forms and doctrines, is Dharma, the three fold aspects

of which are SATYAM, SIVAM, SUNDARAM Truth, Love and Beauty.
For these values our forefathers lived and died. So did Sri Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa, Swami Dayananda, Swami Vivekananda, Gandhiji and

Sri Aurobindo among moderns.
These values are embedded in our national outlook
We command the respect of the world because of them.
We can look forward to the future with conidence only because they have the
vitality which gives the power to vindicate their validity even in this fear-and-

avarice ridden age of ours.
We must make every effort in restoring an awareness of these values in personal

and collective life.

8 Melange 2020 - 21

From the Chairman

50, 40, 30, or even 20 years back – children were focused
on age appropriate matters – be it their education and
cultural activities in school, responsibilities at home or the
social community they lived in. Character building was the
essence in school and at home. Individual satisfaction and
personal needs were not given importance or priorities. The
change from then to now is visible at every home – The
attitude of parents and children at every home – then and
now is far different from the way it was back then.
Change is necessary and even mandated as generations pass. But we as a school
believe that culture and values should remain the same and be the solid foundation of
every home for generations.
During the last 15 years of my 24/7 involvement with children, parents and teachers,
I am really surprised or in fact more saddened to see the current level of attitude of
children from class 3 onwards. May be I belong to an older generation or still
continue with the old school of thoughts. But I believe many of the children are
diverting from their proper path, and chasing things that are not age appropriate, and
not at all necessary in these years of their career. This will ultimately lead to more
children being trapped in a whirlwind of activities and emotions that divert their
attentions and focus from matters most essential to set their future on track. Many
of the children are in the trap. I am very sure that as a parent you belong to one of
these parent groups – either the ‘trapped’, or the possibly ‘going to be trapped’.
During several interactions with parents it has come to my notice that there are a
number of instances where children lack respect, cases where they retort and answer
back, and yell at, when even the slightest or basic questions are asked at home, but
the very same child was obedient and mostly well behaved at school. Yesterday I
heard from my senior leadership team that grade 8 children have started answering
back to Principal and Vice Principals. In the last couple of months, I have seen lots of
such unhealthy incidents which warrant the parents’ immediate intervention.
I am sure many parents are experiencing the same, or similar situations at home, as
well. Our children grow physically and they may be aware of many more things than
necessary for their age because of increased social media presence – but their
emotional responsibility level is still that of a child and not of an adult. They need to
understand the impact of their words and actions, and take responsibility for the
effects of the same.
At Bhavans we believe in character building which is the foundation of any child for a
better tomorrow, better future. Education will follow automatically. Parents are
requested to communicate with the senior management team of the school as and
when necessary to discuss the progress of their children in all matters of their growth
or when you feel there is a visible change in child’s attitude and behavior. Let us
work together for a better tomorrow.
Trust us, we are with you.

From the Vice Chairman

INFINITE POSSIBILITIES THROUGH DIALOGUE.

Basic values stem from the culture a child is exposed to. Values may
differ from generation to generation. A set of values suitable to one
generation may not be suitable to another. It all depends on individual

perception of values.
Educators, have infinite possibilities. Expectations should be modified.

Ideas should not be bull dozed on children. The communication
channels should be kept open and to be constantly in dialogue with the
children. Listen to them and try to understand them. All their demands

need not to be compiled with or all their concerns need not be
addressed. But once they feel their voice is heard, half the battle is won.

11 Melange 2020 - 21

From the Director

Dear Students, Teachers and Parents ,

Although this is the debut issue of the school magazine of SIS , I am very certain
that the passion and hardwork that is definitely shining through these pages has
been stirring up for a long time. And true to its name Melange I am sure the
magazine will be a magical medley of stories , a beautiful blend of ideas , an
admirable assortment of art, a curious collection of creativity and a marvelous
mixed bag of experience. Just as each one of us is – a unique patchwork of stories ,
experiences , ideas , talent and creativity. Being a student is perhaps one the most
important and impressionable phases of our life. It is also that age in time when we
can follow a hundred different dreams and walk many paths before we chose a final
destination. The excitement of being able to mould and train a young mind should
be carried by the teachers and the parents too. It is such a unique and wonderful
opportunity.

There is no doubt and I am sure all of you would agree that each one of us is
different. I personally prefer to use the term unique. Our tastes, our experiences,
our understanding , our skills are all unique. And then the most important truth
being that all of us have our own unique intelligences and skill sets. The pressures
of modern living are hard enough and we do not really need families , schools ,
society and any other social set up trying to fit us into a pre- casted mold. We do
not need to bend and fold ourselves to squeeze into a space that does not recognize
our true skills and rather forces us to develop accepted qualities. The need of the
times is definitely - acceptance of us as we are.

Which again brings me back to how the student life is such an important phase.
And school activities like sports and annual days and school publications like the
magazine become such an important tool to unleash the passion and creative
talents a child has. Every child should be encouraged to try their hands at sports ,
art , creative / free thinking. As teachers and as parents doing this is so important.
I wish the Smart Indian School the very best in moulding a generation of evolved
citizens. I pray that parents continue to be the backbone of their child’s strengths
– no matter if it does not match up with their own dreams – and the driving force
that pushes them to achieve their true potential. And last but not the least I wish
to encourage every child to dream – dream big , and be the inspiration that you
seek outside.

God Bless.

From the Principal

Our Ability to Reach Unity in Diversity will be the Beauty of our Civilization even
after crossing all the hurdles of our life.

During Covid-19 pandemic we had faced many challenges and lost many lives how-
ever the imprints to be a human being with a humanitarian and supportive heart is
left forever.

We belong to a society where people think differently, speak differently and act
differently, however if we have the ability to think globally and feel the essence of
Unity in Diversity, that would be a real achievement for our future Gen. and the
Universe. With this in our mind we have compiled different cultures, different
feelings, different colors, different souls and different skills of different people to
portray the sense UNITY in Mélange - our school magazine.

It’s my supreme pleasure to proclaim the proceeding of our third edition of
Mélange. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, we had left behind with no other choice than
to publish our annual School Magazine online.

At this juncture I express my gratitude to the management of Bhavans Smart
Indian School for the indefatigable support given for the SIS TEAM, providing a
platform for the performances in various hues for the co-curricular, extra-curricular
and non-curricular activities in our school, which abetted us to reach many mile-
stones. My heartfelt gratitude goes to the much committed SIS TEAM for the
astonishing efforts taken by each team member for making the events happen
perfectly on time and on perfect professional way educating the students to
manage the event and learn from each event, even during the competitive Covid-19
pandemic.Special kudos to the Mélange TEAM for their astounding exertions to
document each milestone in a different way in the form Mélange – A Tangible
Unity in diversity. I wish the entire team of Bhavans Smart Indian School all the
success, peace, harmony and happiness as we believe in one world one family.

We belive that if we have a strong will to do anything in our life we shall achieve it
even during the period of challenges.

Let us all have a great hope that ……..

From the Vice Principal

Thank You Parents for Your Support during Remote Learning

In representing all in Smart Indian School, I would like to express our sincerest
appreciation to our parents, guardians and students for your incredible
patience and flexibility as we conclude the 2020-2021 school year. We
understand the enormous responsibility and challenges that Remote Learning
placed on parents, guardians, and students as you had to create time, space,
routine, and support for learning at home. We realize that all of our families are
experiencing a difficult time and that there are many other needs, in addition
to student learning, that are critical as we work through this crisis together.
We are so thankful to our families and students for all the amazing gestures of
kindness and generosity we keep reading about. Writing notes of gratitude to
teachers, staff, and management. Sending videos and slideshows of students
singing songs, creating art, performing projects, or just to cheer up those
around them. We honor all of you and your acts of generosity and kindness,
patience and resilience, and the fortitude and determination you have
demonstrated.
With sincere thanks,

From the KG Supervisor

We are what we are inculcated into....
Once a Guru and his sishyas were on their daily biksha route. In
that route there was a house where a lady usually gave them biksha, so they knocked
at that door. After sometime a five year old girl with mud on her hands opened the
door. She said that her mother had gone out and she did not know what to give. The
Guru asked her what she was doing and she replied, "I am making mud pies". He
requested her to give him one of those and accepted it in his bowl. The sishyas were
upset and questioned the Guru about accepting the mud pie. The Guru replied that
he was just inculcating in her the habit of giving; after all we are what we are
inculcated into. All parents want to see their kids succeed, but it is just as important
to teach your children how to fail. If there is a rise in the number of suicides in
children these days, it is because we as parents have not inculcated into our kids
that it is OK to fail.
There is so much pressure on kids today to be the best and in this rat race we as
parents tend to miss out on the fact that children also need to know that failing will
happen sometimes and that it is totally ok. We’ve ended up teaching our kids to fear
failure – and, in doing so, we have blocked the surest path to their success. Out of
love and a desire to protect our child’s self-esteem, we swoop in and bulldoze every
uncomfortable bump and fish out every obstacle in their way. In the process we are
depriving our children of the most important lessons of childhood. Setbacks,
mistakes and failures are the very experiences that will teach them to be resourceful,
persistent and innovative.Failure teaches kids the skills they need like resilience
which is crucial to be successful adults, after all children are what they are inculcat-
ed into. All of us sometime or the other have caved into our child’s plead for a candy
or a toy, despite wanting to say ‘No’. Parents are busier than ever before, and a lot of
the time we feel guilty that we aren't spending as much time with our kids as we
would like to. When we are with our kids, we want them to be happy and have
positive feelings about the time they spend with us, so we end up doing things they
like, and we are reluctant to say no to them. We often do not realise that kids need
to hear ‘no’ in some form. Hearing ‘no’ helps them develop emotionally, physically
and mentally and it helps them build the grit they need to get through life's ups and
downs, after all children are what they are inculcated into.

From the Administrative Manager

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the world, and peace and blessings be upon the
noblest messengers Muhammad bin Abdullah, the faithful Prophet. Our school
entered the realm of academics with the principle aim to develop and mould our
children to become good human beings with pure thoughts and conscience.
Thanks to God Almighty and to all the members who worked as a team to achieve
this unified goal. It’s really prideful for us that we are now listed among the
best Indian schools in Kuwait. As the Administrative Manager of Smart Indian
School, I had always made sure that the most experienced and highly qualified
members become the part of our institution.
We always kept our students updated with the latest developments to ensure that
our school graduates kept abreast of the latest educational developments and
career opportunities. With the grace of Almighty our graduates are placed in
distinguished universities around the world where they are trained academically
well. We work with the belief that all are created by Almighty to do their job
dutifully and passionately.

From the Academic Coordinator

“When we get in the habit of telling small lies, it leads to a habit of
telling big ones.”

We can help our kids to be honest by upholding moral values in all the work they do.

I was actually shocked to see an eight-year-old child being untruthful while

conducting a virtual quiz. An external support whoever it is, was helping him by

giving correct answers. The quizzer noticed it and reprimanded the child but he was

unwilling to accept the mistake even though it was noticed by two other quizzers. We

cannot blame the child for being untruthful as it is clearly visible that the external

person was supporting the child to do this mistake. We have to help our kids develop

the right habits, and one of the best habits that they can have is being honest, and

this is developed from their home with the support of the family. A short-term

success will not last long. Let us all help our kids to be honest, authentic, responsible

and accountable for all their actions. Academic Coordinator - Primary

Mrs Thushara Sanjeev

From the Student Editor

“Creativity is not the finding of a thing, but the making of some-
thing out of it after it is found.”
~James Russell Lowell

After a whole year of perseverance and endeavours— both
academic as well as extracurricular, there’s one thing that we all
look forward to. Something that brings back memories by placing
us into a nostalgic trance.
As you’ve already guessed it right, it’s our school magazine MÉLANGE. We are grateful
and jovial to receive such innovative ideas and contributions from the SIS family. This
year was indeed one with lots of struggles and rigours. The pandemic forced us into
confinement. But nothing could confine our creative minds. We held events, exhibitions,
webinars, musical fests and other programs just as magnificent as before with undying
splendour.
This year was filled with new opportunities— allowing us to step out of the box
and explore the unfamiliar. And I would like to express my sincere gratitude to
the SIS family for giving me this prized privilege of being the Student Editor. I
thank the teachers and management for their support and guidance throughout.
We hope that you, our readers enjoy reading this masterpiece. For no one person is
too dull. They just have to be propelled to break through the underlying fear in
them, which henceforth would take them to a world so fascinating; a world so
creative; a world that’s theirs. I made that up. But who knows, might just be true.

School Annual Report 2020- 2021

“Embrace each challenge of your life as opportunity For Self-
realisation and Self-transformation”

A warm cheer-up aboard to walk into the aisle of spanking master
strokes created in the realm of Bhavan’s Smart Indian School and a
cheerful 2020 to effectuate much more wander of wonders in the days
of challenges amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

I am profoundly privileged and reckoned once again to have led such a strong, vibrant
school community through a year of great achievements. The triumphs are of collateral
nature for both individual and combined with our students, staff and the school as a
whole. School achievements this year continued to be many a folds and speckled across
academic, sporting and cultural fields, reflecting our vows to the development of the
whole child. As the educators we always feel proud to be an integral part of Bharatiya
vidya Bhavan as the tradition of teaching the basics for all, the students, the staff and
the parent community. The family values that we teach our pupils will keep our
education upright and esteemed always in our life. We at SIS strive for inculcating the
project based concepts to the students along with the life skills. We believe in learning by
doing in all the subjects whether it is a child, a teacher or a parent. We try to invite the
parents too wherever and whenever possible to do the activities along with their wards.

Our school starts a day with a mélange of educative views in the school assembly. Each
class is assigned a day to conduct the assembly. The assembly protocol is School Prayer,
Word of the Day, Thought for the Day, Idiom of the Day, Significance of the Day, Wrong
Usage in English, A word in five languages English,Hindi,French,Arabic and Sanskrit,
News Headlines in five languages followed by Bhavans & SIS Anthem. During the
enrichment period all the students are made to write the word of the day, thought for the
day and the idiom of the day using in their own sentence on the enrichment note book.
This morning assembly really raised the bar for each student with a real enrichment of
the life along with the family values which is the basis for the success of each individual.
Every day the last period is used as review period where the students revise the portions
taken on the day and complete the homework that too under the supervision of the
teacher. The special assembly assigned to each class will make all the students of that
class to know more about the assembly protocol and each student would come on the
stage for conducting the assembly.

Declaring one-week portion in advance will make the kids to read the chapters in
advance and come prepared with few questions from the new chapters. When the teacher
teaches the chapter, students can understand the concept better and faster.

Regular One to One PTM along with the presence of the wards and the class teacher will
give a perfect idea about the students’ progress and the areas of improvements. Each
parent is given enough time to discuss about the kid with the class teacher who knows
all about the kid.

19 Melange 2020 - 21

Melange - An Internal Reflection

The Class room library helped the kids to understand the formalities of keeping the
records in a library and helps to inculcate the reading habits in the kids. The self-
appraisal practices by presentations, group discussions and surprise tests helped the
students to excel in their impromptu skills and the overall personality of each child.

Writing a sentence in all the forms of the tenses and using the same in framing
sentences everyday helped the students improve their language skills tremendously and
in grammatically right way.

The SIS FM gave a bizarre dais to each student to talk about a book review and express
their special talents to the whole school. The FM would be a platform to express the
talents of the wards like RJ, singing, public speaking or orator skills to the whole school.

Water bells in the form of a sound of flowing water tends all to drink water which shows
a community concern to have a healthy life. The soothing music of meditation
involuntarily make all to sit quietly for analyzing themselves in a meditation mood.

It is only because of the steadfast and stern TEAM of teachers who worked hard to fish
out the skills inherent within the child which helped for the progressive development of
the child to chisel him for a better personality.
Academically, our learning and teaching programs have ensured consistently strong
academic results in school based and standardized tests. Smart Indian School (SIS)
emphasizes on NCERT norms in all facets of the school curriculum. The pedagogical
methodology betrothed to the latest scientific advancements have kept the seekers and
students in more updated and advanced way. Eventhogh the Covid-19 pandemic has
changed the entire world’s normal functioning, we at SIS has not left any stone untouched
and any leaf unturned. All the activities for the year 2020-2021 were conducted virtually.

We the Smart Educators not only educated the MINDS but also the HEARTS of our first
batch of grade 10 students who had appeared for the CBSE examination and brought
laurels to the school. The indubitable first batch result was encrypted as the successful
100 % result by the exuberant first batch of 10 th grade, corroborating that if there is a
will there is a way to ALL the success leading to a brighter future ahead. We are proud to
proclaim that Ms.Irin Mariya Joby with 96.8%,Akshara Anilkumar with 94.4%,Jemimah
Ann George with 93.8% and Jonathan Zakhariya with 93.2% were positioned the school
toppers’ list on the WALL OF FAME.

April - with two famous Zodiac signs Aries and Taurus. Passion and determination.
Imbibing the same vigor and passion SIS kick started its new academic year 2020 -
2021 with a vigorous POP (Parent Orientation Programe) where-in the students
took their parents’ and teachers’ blessings by touching their feet.

The first activity held was Euphonic Strings A Band formed by the Parents of
Bhavans Kuwait in an online dedication to all the unsung heroes of the world and
those frontline workers of the Covid-19.Happy world Book Day,Yellow Day and the
Art Competition for Grades 1 to 11 and the World Earth Day were celebrated with
all the art and craft work done by the kids expressing their feelings on a virtual
platform. The kids delivered the speeches on the importance of the Ozone layer to
protect the EARTH.

20 Melange 2020 - 21

Melange - An Internal Reflection

A Virtual Election Day was conducted which was held to make the students aware of the
voting system at an early age. The students enjoyed during canvasing campaigns and the
electronic voting practices and the result announcing on the same day thrilled all.The
student council is one such opportunity given to students to learn the skills of
leadership.Various Clubs were inaugurated and started functioning virtually on all the
Thursdays as the extracurricular activities for the active participation of students as per
their interest. To name the few Gavel Club, Nature Club,Anti bullying club,Home science
Club,Sports club etc …. ….

Vishu –a celebration of Kerala where elders give blessings and offer coins to the young
ones which commemorate the sign that we are here to support you. The young ones at
receiving the Kaineetam bow to the elders depicting that they respect and protect the
elders always remained a virtual celebration for all our students their parents and our
staff a sign of togetherness to show that all are treated equal in SIS. May, The month
of Taurus and Gemini recognized by their earthly and realistic way of living & of
course the first day of May gels with these adjectives –

On the International Labor’s Day, Bhavan’s Smart Indian School had a special
celebration honoring the workers for their relentless service to the students and the
school. The children made this day a memorable one with respect and love giving
speeches on the impact of the service rendered by the labours on our society. Even
though it was a virtual platform we could feel the inner feel of each child as they
miss their schools and the aunties, Bhaus and the drivers of our school.

Investiture ceremony - Students are given abundant opportunities to groom themselves
and learn about the world during their academic life. The student council is one
such opportunity given to students to learn the skills of leadership. The SIS Student
Council under the able guidance of the Stakeholders and Principal takes up
leadership roles and executes them with care. The day turned out to be the most
significant one for the new council members who took oath. The students were filled
with enthusiasm and excitement as the sashes shimmered across them and were
overwhelmed after getting the leadership roles of their school. The only thing they
missed was they couldn’t come to school for this event.

A very loving and compassionate day celebrated in SIS – Mother’s Day and Family Day.
The bubbling students of Bhavan’s Smart Indian School were given an opportunity
to show appreciation for their mother and all other family members by making
greeting cards and offering them. The impact of each family member was felt very
much as they all are forced to sit at home due to Covid-19 pandemic.

SWARASANDHYA -8 a musical treat by all the teaching and nonteaching staff of
Bhavans Middle East was conducted on a virtual platform. It was an eye-opener to
many who witnessed on the FB live too disseminating peace, harmony and
happiness to one and all from the Bhavans Parivar.

21 Melange 2020 - 21

Melange - An Internal Reflection

After this responsible event we had the holy month of Ramadan celebrated in SIS with
various events. Students had participated actively in Quran recitation and lantern
making competitions. The lanterns made by the students later on were used to decorate
the whole school building ceremoniously. Even though it was celebrated virtually it was
done with all the fervor spreading joy and peace to everyone.

A Virtual No tobacco Day was celebrated with the oncologist Dr.Susovana Sujit and the
students with their parents to spread the awareness of the deleterious impacts of
tobacco in our life span.

June the month of Gemini and Cancer is associated with social and trendy gestures
and the month began with same social pledge by celebrating A Virtual Cartoon Day.
The kids dressed up as their favorite cartoon characters and spoke about the character
which gave them more confidence about public speaking.

SIS always made sure that they are trendy and updated in academic matters. And for
that we had a Rendezvous with all our senior teachers and students for a long
discussion about Covid Post Education. All the kids expressed their feelings towards
the covid -19 pandemic victims and how much they miss their friend, teachers and the
school during the pandemic, which was an eye opener to all teachers & parents.

But along with all these academic matters SIS didn’t forget to celebrate Father’s Day
with all its spirits. When the kids gave handmade greeting cards expressing their feel
towards the character building by their father, the family members could not control
their tears. This is the impact of the parents on the kids.

There was an interactive session on line by one of the SIS parents Mr.Praveen who gave
a motivational session which really had a positive impact on the kids, parents and the
teachers during the pandemic. How to prepare lemonade was the theme for the virtual
Lemonade Day celebration .Each student prepared a lemonade and served the same to
the people at home, saying ‘‘I prepared it and tell me how is it ?’’

The kids participated in the salad making competition and shown their skills of making
a nutritious salad depicting everyday salad eating would keep all of us very healthy

November attributed to the Zodiac Scorpio and Sagittarius…the people crowned with these
signs are identified as successful and resilient in nature. On the very cheerful and
innocent fiesta - Universal children’s day -the ambience of the Virtual school environment
turned exuberant when the happiest souls of the educational realm beamed with the
shades of eye-catching colours on the Virtual Stage. Even though the kids and the
teachers as well as the parents missed the last year’s stage shows on this same day, they
worked very hard this year to showcase their talents in a virtual zoom platform. The same
exuberance we all could feel on the Virtual Friendship Day celebration too. Our students
had brought laurels in varied Intra and Inter school competitions like Sasthra Prathibha,
KIF science exhibition, BMUN, Quiz competitions, Quran recitation, Islamic competition
Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball , art and Drawing competitions etc…Our students and
teachers participated in various webinars for the latest updates. Kudos to all the

Dear Readers,
This academic year was quite different from the rest. Having to move with the world, while
at a jammed position in our own lives, seemed very difficult for all of us. Thinking about it
now, the pain was almost ‘nostalgic’, because it wasn’t a struggle that was felt quite often
around the world. Although the pandemic suffocated us from all sides, the heart of the
Smart Indian School family never quavered. Be it programs, webinars, sports or classes,
the management and teachers of our school truly defined the motto, ‘Education First!’,
with their support and efforts which helped all of us students feel almost as if we were on
campus; As a student representative, I deem it my utmost duty to thank the management
and ALL the teachers, for their heroism, which did not make us students feel left out in
our education in any manner. Now and forever more, may we all embody and glorify the
motto that has kept our school running for years, Let noble thoughts come to us, from
every side.

"The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building
the new.” ~ Socrates

Change- a word that does justice to everything that befell the past year. And being the
head girl on a virtual platform was definitely a change for the better or worse. This year
we encountered multiple obstacles and challenges in fulfilling our responsibilities on a
completely new platform but we definitely ran rings around with a change.
Working together as the council, we were able to conduct multifarious events- pushing
boundaries, thinking innovatively, utilising all the resources at our disposal to its
maximum potential and focusing all of our energy on building the new. And looking
back, I’m confident that we succeeded in building the new, where the students of our
school were able to express their talents, spread awareness and educate young minds
on various fronts.
All in all we were definitely able to prove that nothing is out of reach and nothing can
stop us if we work together as a team. And I count it an honor to be able to lead the
journey on the front lines, working alongside creative and innovative minds. Seeing
change manifest in novel ways while creating a difference. Despite everything we’ve
encountered on our journey, we’ve worked in unison to keep Smart Indian School’s
banner flying high up in the sky, mounted with love, hoisted with dignity, and fluttering
with grace.

I, le 1er février 1908. Luís Filipe fut lui-même mortellement blessé dans l'attaque.

National Youth Day
“Arise, awake, stop not until your goal is achieved.”
– Swami Vivekananda

The National Youth Day 2021 themed as ‘Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building’
was celebrated by the students of grade 6-11 at Bhavans SIS on Tuesday, 12 January
2021 during the first period. This day aims to highlight ways in which the participation
of youngsters at the local, national, and global levels is playing a crucial role in
enhancing national and multilateral institutions and processes. January 12 marks the
birthday of Swami Vivekananda the one who rejoiced in knowledge, to honour his many
contributions to the country, the government of India, in the year 1984, declared his
birthday as National Youth Day. In the light of this, Department of English organized this
event with the main objective of promoting rational thinking among the youth, believed to
be the future of the country and to pledge to build an India where our young generation
will play an influential role in shaping future of the country!Soon after the regular
morning assembly in MS Teams classrooms, class teachers of all the grades 6-11
conducted the National Youth Day 2021 during the first period. The session of 50
minutes started with introduction of the theme of National Youth Day 2021 followed by
many activities: PPT on his teachings and philosophy, Video on The Life Story of Swami
Vivekananda, Yuva Quiz based on both the PPT and Video. Consequently, the session
made all the students aware of Swami Vivekananda’s lifestyle and his sacrifices.
The students who scored highest points were felicitated by the class teacher immediately.
Another well-disciplined beauty of this event was that all the students and teachers had
kept the same event-based background image for the entire day and continued their
regular classes in MS Teams.

Swami Vivekananda believed that education is the only source to build a better society
and a better nation, and so is Bhavans SIS philosophy in giving real education instilling
discipline and right values that play a significant role in character building.

Creative corner My Pride

Being an Indian, the country which I like the most is India. India lies in South
Asia. It is the land of hundred crore people. We speak many different languages and
worship many gods, yet we have the same spirit.India is also knowns as Bharat and
Hindustan. Oceans from three sides surround it. India is also rich in monuments,
tombs, churches, historical buildings, temples, museums, scenic beauty, wildlife
sanctuaries, places of architecture and many more. The great leaders and freedom
fighters are from India. India is the land of my dreams, and I love my country very
much.

India is known for its heritage, spices, and of course, for people who live here. That’s
the reasons India is famous for the common saying of “unity in diversity”. India is
also well known as the land of spirituality, philosophy, science, and technology.

In India, we have over 170 million people employed in blue-collar jobs, including
drivers, logistics and delivery staff. These are mostly migrant workers, i.e., they
come from villages to work in big cities. These people work long hours but barely
make enough money to survive. Some of the ways to improve their lives would be: -
Fixed minimum wages
Have mandatory benefits like sick leave, health insurance etc. Create good
manufacturing/service jobs and thereby reducing unemployment Strengthen the
unions. Give them proper housing, food, clothing, clean sanitation facilities etc.
Workers are the backbone of any society, and we must take good care of them.

Self esteem during difficulties

So let me start with the first question, What is Self Esteem?
Self-esteem is how a person feels about his/her worth. "The self-concept is what we
think about the self; self-esteem is the positive/ negative evaluations of the self, as in
how we feel about it."
Now, how does self-esteem help us during difficulties?
All of us have ups and downs in our life. Positive
self-esteem during difficulties helps us feel better and, do
better. Hence, we must improve our positive self-esteem
by growing our confidence and self-belief. It is all about
your belief that you can rise instead of feeling depressed.
We mustn't sulk upon our problems because it's all about
rising up and conquering ourselves at the end of the day.
On the other hand, negative or self-esteem negatively impacts oneself. He/she starts
feeling depressed and is accompanied by fears. Such people have a negative attitude
and pessimistic view towards life. As the lack of confidence doesn't help us grow into
healthier human beings, let's just leave low esteem behind and grow to our fullest
with conviction, passion, and wit.
I'd like to finally say that it's just you who can change you.
Difficulties in your life don't come to destroy you, but to help you realise your
potential. And to find this potential, carry your self-esteem with confidence and a
little bit of that jazz!

Mental health and Goals - two sides of the same coin

If Essence describes one facet of the coin, Aspiration describes the second face of
the same coin. Mental health is essential as physical health at every stage of life,
from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Mental health influences the
way individuals look at themselves, their lives and others in their lives. When it
comes to our mental health, it is crucial to set goals for ourselves. By striving to
improve our mental well-being, we come closer and closer to self-fulfilment,
allowing us to flourish in our relationships, school, careers, and hobbies. Mental
health and Goals are two sides of the same coin. We should encourage everyone to
set specific Mental Health goals.

The Roswell Incident; Do Aliens Really Exist?

Days after something shiny crashed in the New Mexico desert in 1947, and the
Roswell Army Air Field issued a press release that said that the military had just
recovered the remains of a 'flying disc'. Although quickly discounted as erroneous,
the announcement lays the groundwork for one of the most enduring UFO stories of

all time. The military's initial press release was straightforward
in its handling of wreckage discovery by rancher W.W. "Mac"
Brazel.

"The many rumours regarding the flying disc became a reality
when the intelligence office of the 509th Bomb Group of the
Eighth Air Force, Roswell Army Air Field, was fortunate enough
to gain possession of a disc through the cooperation of one of the
local ranchers and the sheriff's office of Chaves County," the
press release read.
The Americans still strongly feel that the Whitehouse is still
covering up this matter. In one of Trump's speeches with his son,
he was about to expose something that the Whitehouse had kept for years, but he
was asked not to do so, as the rest of the Whitehouse thinks that "the world was not
ready to know about it". The U.S. Government, being one of the most powerful
governments in the world, has the authority to put anyone who spreads the
information, far away…maybe never to be heard of again.
Everyone suddenly sprouting up, some in excitement, some in shock and some in
utter distress. But rumours of recovered extra-terrestrial bodies and a government
cover-up gained such a foothold in popular culture that the U.S. government took
the unusual step of producing two reports in the 1990s that set out to put the
matter to rest.
But, there are still people out there, who strongly feel that they can get the truth. I
support these people 100%, but maybe humanity isn't ready to know…in such a
crisis that we are in now, getting to know that aliens have marked our planet for
their inhabitation in a couple of years in insane! So, do aliens exist? I don't know,

J.K.Rowling - My Favourite Author

Joanne (born July 31st, 1965), better known by her pen name J. K. Rowling, is a
British author, film producer, television producer, screenwriter, and philanthropist.
She is best known for writing the Harry Potter fantasy series, which has won multiple
awards and sold more than 500 million copies, becoming the best-selling book series
in history. The books are the basis of a popular film series, over which Rowling had
overall approval on the scripts and was a producer on the final films. She also writes
crime fiction under the name Robert Galbraith.

Born in Yate, Gloucestershire, Rowling worked as a researcher and bilingual secretary
for Amnesty International when she conceived the idea for the Harry Potter series
while on a delayed train from Manchester to London in 1990. The seven-year period
that followed saw her mother's death, birth of her first child, divorce from her first
husband, and relative poverty until the first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the
Philosopher's Stone, was published in 1997. There were six sequels, of which the last,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released in 2007. Since then, Rowling has
written five books for adult readers: The Casual Vacancy (2012) and—under the
pseudonym Robert Galbraith—the crime fiction Cormoran Strike series, which
consists of The Cuckoo's Calling (2013), The Silkworm (2014), Career of Evil (2015),
and Lethal White (2018).

Rowling has lived a 'rags to riches' life in which she progressed from living on
benefits to being the world's first billionaire author. She lost her billionaire status
after giving away much of her earnings to charity but remains one of the world's
wealthiest people. She is the U.K.'s best-selling living author, with sales above £238
million. The 2016 Sunday Times Rich List estimated Rowling's fortune at £600
million, ranking her as the joint 197th richest person in the U.K. Time named her a
runner-up for its 2007 Person of the Year, noting the social, moral, and political
inspiration she has given her fans. In October 2010, Rowling was named the 'Most
Influential Woman in Britain' by leading magazine editors. She has supported
multiple charities, including Comic Relief, One Parent Families, and Multiple
Sclerosis Society of Great Britain, and launched her charity, 'Lumos'.

Although she writes under the pen name J. K. Rowling, her name was Joanne Rowling
before her remarriage. Her publishers asked that she use two initials rather than her
full name, anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read
a book written by a woman. As she had no middle name, she chose K (for Kathleen) as
the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother. She calls herself
Jo. Following her remarriage, she has sometimes used Joanne Murray when
conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry, she gave evidence under
Joanne Kathleen Rowling's name and her entry in Who's Who lists her name also as
Joanne Kathleen Rowling.
