PREŠERNOVA NAGRADA / PREŠEREN AWARD, 2015

/.../ Brvarjevo pesniško, uredniško in esejistično delo je nerazdružljiva celota, vrhunska v vsakem pogledu
in detajlu.

/.../ Brvar’s poetry, essays and editorial work is an inseparable whole, superb in every aspect and detail.
/.../ His reflections on literature (not only on his own poetics), on Maribor and “Maribor culture” are
presented ingeniously in an editorial preface to the Book on Maribor (Mariborska knjiga, Slovenska
matica, 1999), without doubt the most acclaimed preface of all literary books devoted to towns. /.../
Another magnificent work was his editing of the book No Verses, No Rhymes (Brez verzov, brez rim,
Študentska založba, 2011), the first selected anthology of Slovenian prose poetry, a hybrid between
poetry and prose, between lyric and epic. It is strange that no one had done this before him, yet it is not
strange at all that it was Andrej Brvar, the greatest master of such crossover in modern days, who has
done it. This genre marked him as strongly as he marked the genre, and the same can be said of his
relationship with Maribor. As an editor of the Obzorja Publishing House, which ended sadly at Litera
Publishing House, he co-created a great number of “Maribor books” which are never only about Maribor,
featuring vigorous prudence and gentle encouragement. /.../ In forty-five years of writing, Brvar has
authored ten poetry collections. The more present is his awareness of transience in these collections,
the greater the spacing between them, yet his final poetry catalogues have always been calibrated
carefully, also in the period of his eruptive conquest of the world. The poet gradually moved away from
his initial ideological premises, but he never did need to distance himself from their technically poetic
perfection.

in Lakotnika postal osrednji in najbolj znan predstavnik slovenskega stripa. /.../ Stripi o Zvitorepcu
in njegovih prijateljih so vsebovali spoj precizne obrisne linije, karikaturistično stilizacijo in realistični
perfekcionizem, zanesljivo kompozicijo, pregledno kadriranje, brezhibno animacijo likov, stripovsko
dinamiko, scenaristično inventivnost in tekoče dialoge.
Najbolj znani so spot z zajčki cikcak
in reklamni spoti za Šumi (bomboni Visoki C), Jelovico (Ne bo vam uspelo), Kolinsko, Fructal, Mercator,
Medex. /.../
že tretjo generacijo bralcev, saj so bili večkrat ponatisnjeni.

/.../ Thanks to more than forty stories about the adventures of three friends Zvitorepec, Trdonja and
Lakotnik, Miki Muster came to be the main and most prominent representative of the Slovenian comic. /.../
Comics about Zvitorepec and his friends demonstrated a combination of precise contour lines, stylized
caricature and realistic perfectionism, reliable composition, transparent framing, flawless character
animation, comics dynamics, ingenious screenplays and fluent dialogues. /.../ Muster is one of the most
successful artists in the field of animated film at the European level (his drawings would make for more
than ten hours of an animated film). /.../ Between 1967 and 1990 he created around 380 commercials, the
most famous of them being the zigzag bunnies for children’s TV show, and commercials for Šumi sweets,
Jelovica doors and windows, products by Kolinska, Fructal, Mercator, Medex. /.../ In 1990, he started
drawing political caricatures for the Mag weekly and later for the Reporter weekly. /.../ Muster’s body
of comics comprises more than 5,000 comic panels. Despite the fact that the first episode of Zvitorepec’s
adventures was published more than sixty years ago (July 1952), his comics and picture books, reprinted
several times, continue to fascinate already the third generation of readers. /.../ Contributing significantly
to the comic being established as an equal artistic discipline and genre in Slovenia and pioneering in the
field of animated cinema in Slovenia, Miki Muster with his artistic oeuvre came to be one of the most
recognizable figures of domestic fine art landscape in the broadest sense of the word.

freska slovenske stvarnosti zadnjih 50 let.
Kar Partljiča dela edinstvenega in za kar ga publika vedno nagradi, je njegovo razumevanje malega
človeka, njegovih slabosti, napak in stisk, kar zna prikazati z veliko mero razumevanja in humorja. /.../

/.../ Tone Partljič is the only contemporary Slovenian playwright who has devoted most of his writing
talent to comedy. /.../ Comedy being the literary genre which reflects the society of a certain time and
space and constantly alludes to the current facts, reading of more than 30 Partljič’s comedies is also
a unique rendition of the Slovenian reality of the last 50 years. /.../ Tone Partljič’s most famous comedy
is My Dad, the Socialist Kulak (Moj ata, socialistični kulak), which is considered the most successful
Slovenian comedy since World War II. /.../ Partljič’s unique feature for which the audience always rewards
him, is his understanding of the little man, his weaknesses, failures and hardships, always displayed with
a high degree of understanding and humour. /.../ Tone Partljič is also a master of prose, as he published
more than 20 works for both adults and young readers, dominating are novels, short prose works
(novella, short novel), and a collection of short stories. /.../ We should not forget that Partljič contributed
substantially to the development of Slovenian film, domestic TV series and TV movies, by writing scripts
for important and well-known works, often on the basis of his own plays. /.../ Tone Partljič also writes
scientific texts, reports, testimonies, evaluations, memories from the fields of theatre, literature and
culture, showing that the author is a subtle chronicler of Slovenian reality. Partljič is a versatile artist
who has decisively marked the Slovenian literary and theatre landscape of the last half century, as well
as the cultural perspective of the city of Maribor. /.../

vodenju Slovenske filharmonije.

Ivo Petrić’s artistic oeuvre is rightly considered one of the most recognizable and influential in modern
Slovenian music. /.../ He has composed an extensive and varied body of work which ranges from
orchestral to chamber music and solo works. /.../ Petrić always follows his own principal poetics
uncompromisingly, no matter how opposing it might be to the leading currents around him and the
established principles of average taste. /.../ Petrić’s artistic credo is defined by musical sophistication
in composing and attentively honed musicality of his musical expression, which is demonstrated also
in his orientation to instrumental music. /.../ His music is an expression of music interpretation itself,
as pure as possible, bound by nothing but the “absolute” language of tones, sounds, motifs, sound
colours and combinations. /.../ Standing out among his works clearly is an extremely voluminous body
of chamber works, particularly the set of six string quartets, as well as numerous first ever Slovenian
sonatas for various instruments. /.../ Expanding horizons of the Slovenian musical audience and
representing the contemporary - and not only that - Slovenian creativity and interpretation widely
is what guided Petrić also in his artistic management of the Slovenian Philharmonic for several decades.
Petrić also managed the publishing house of the Society of Slovenian Composers called Edicije for
several years, turning it into an internationally recognized contemporary music publisher, which
publishes and promotes works by Slovenian composers. /.../

obogatil slovenski umetnostni in kulturni prostor.
umetnik. Slovenskim bralcem je ponudil premišljene, briljantno izbrušene in duhovite prevode cele vrste
ključnih avtorjev univerzalne književnosti. /.../ Z izborom francoske nadrealistične poezije Noč bliskov nam
je posredoval sanjski ludizem onstran vsakdanjosti; s Queneaujevo Cico v metroju – moč igrive domišljije
in prebrisane jezikovne kombinatorike; z Apollinairjem – željo po soncu, vztrajnosti in vedrini;
z Lautréamontom – duhovno globino norosti; s Prévertom – priljubljeno Barbaro in druga imena nežnosti;
z Beckettovo mojstrovino Čakajoč Godota – neizmerno upanje, porojeno iz prepadov življenja; z Renéjem
Charom – veličastni paradoks neizrekljivega; z Lorco – hrepenenje po človečnosti; z Borgesom –
neizčrpen inventar možnih in nemogočih svetov. /.../ Bergerjev prevod Queneaujevih Vaj v slogu je eden
najvišjih prevajalskih in literarnih dosežkov v slovenskem jeziku nasploh. Ponuja spoznanje, kako zelo
knjižnega izraza, odvisno od izbiranja in tehtanja jezikovnih formulacij. /.../

Dr. Primož Vitez, povzeto po besedilu v zborniku Prešernov sklad 2017. Ljubljana: Upravni odbor Prešernovega sklada, 2017.

Aleš Berger has invaluably enriched Slovenia’s arts and culture space with his diverse linguistic work
and holistic view on language. His translating oeuvre is tremendously impressive. He has raised the art
of translating, which is still veiled in anonymity, to a publicly recognised level, especially with some of
the most demanding translations – tasks that can be performed only by authentic linguistic artists.
Berger offered Slovenian readers prudent, brilliantly honed and humorous translations of a series of key
authors of world literature. /.../ His selection of the French surrealist poetry Stormy Night (Noč bliskov)
gave us the dream Luddism beyond commonness; his translation of Queneau’s Zazie dans le métro -
the potency of playful imagination and artful linguistic combinatorics; his translation of Apollinaire - the
desire for sun, determination and serenity; his translation of Lautréamont - spiritual depth of insanity;
his translation of Prévert - favoured Barbara and other names of tenderness; his translation of Beckett’s
masterpiece Waiting for Godot - immense hope born out of the abyss of life; his translation of René Char
- grand paradox of the unspeakable; his translation of Lorca - craving for humanity; his translation
of Borges - a non-exhaustive inventory of worlds both possible and impossible. /.../ Berger’s translation
of Queneau’s Exercises de style is one of the greatest translating and literary achievements in Slovenian
language ever offering the realisation that social life at all levels, from idle chatter to eminent aesthetic
literary expressions, relies entirely on the selection and reflection of linguistic formulations. /.../

opusom nepogrešljiva sestavina mozaika slovenske likovne umetnosti.
Risbe, akvareli in gvaši na
papirju so spet stopili v ospredje njenega snovanja.

Mag. Breda Škrjanec, povzeto po besedilu v zborniku Prešernov sklad 2017. Ljubljana: Upravni odbor Prešernovega sklada, 2017.

Metka Krašovec devoted her life to fine art fully. She has been creating continuously ever since 1964,
authoring an outstanding and recognisable painting oeuvre, which is, together with her prints and
drawings, an indispensable element in the mosaic of the Slovenian fine arts. Inexhaustibly creative,
Krašovec is the leading Slovenian contemporary female artist, in history ranked immediately next to
Ivana Kobilica by the Slovenian art critics. She has been one of the few Slovenian artists presenting
a beautiful text of artistic self-reflection titled Mirror, Time (Ogledalo, čas). /.../ After the initial flood
of drawings in 1980s, this genre remained a constant mental companion of her paintings until 2009,
which was a new distinct chapter bringing drawings, watercolours and gouaches on paper back to the
front of her work. Culminating in a superb art book Nox portensis gravida (Equrna Gallery, 2013), these
new works are small, excellent artworks, first created as images, which reveal or illuminate profound,
existential topics, and later equipped with fitting poetry verses. /.../ It is a marvellous combination
of outstanding painting culture and profound poetry experience. /.../ Otherwise quite heterogeneous,
her poetics of painting is noted for the search of beauty, an ideal that can be pursued, but never achieved
completely. In her art, Metka Krašovec travels on the subtle edge of sensory perceptions, seeking
the sonorous silence.
