Keynote 1 Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Azman bin Yahaya Director (UiTM Co-Curriculum Center) School of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA: Shah Alam: Selangor UiTM GLOBAL VOLUNTEERING: THE 4 PILLARS OF STUDENT INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME Abstract Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) under it’s iconic brand, UiTM Global Volunteering has conducted an International Youth and Community Program in Mauritius. The programme was designed to focus on 4 pillars which were Industrial Networking, Academic Discourse, Community Engagement and Student Development. The programme was held from 22 November to 2nd Dec 2022 and participated by 30 students and 3 university staffs. Mauritius was chosen due to its fame as a tourist destination, has well-structured conservation management for wild-life and environment, and it is a Muslim minority country. Students were able to share their experiences and knowledges with the community especially the Mauritius Muslim Youth Association in Islamic teaching and practice. Activities were planned according to the 4 pillars. Among the activities conducted, two of them were fascinating enough to be reported in the local newspapers. The 4 pillars had made the International Youth and Community Programme in Mauritius produce significant impacts to the university and the participating students. The university increase its visibility internationally through industrial linkage thus contributing to the World University Ranking criteria. Students maximising their time engaging with local community results significant improvement in their awareness of cultural differences and conservation of environments and wildlife. ICCLE 2024 7

Keynote 2 Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Siti Kudnie Sahari (UNIMAS Entrepreneurship Centre, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak THE IMPACT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE IN CO-CURRICULAR COURSES ON THE FORMATION OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP Abstract This presentation explores how co-curricular courses at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) foster social entrepreneurship among students by engaging them in community service projects. A notable example is the production of natural handmade soap, where students manage the entire process using herbal materials provided by local residents. These initiatives not only develop entrepreneurial mindsets but also enhance community engagement and sustainability. By involving students in practical, real-world applications, these courses provide valuable experiential learning opportunities. The project's success has been acknowledged through a grant from the Ministry of Higher Education, highlighting its significant contribution to social entrepreneurship through structured community service activities within the co-curricular framework. Keynote 3 Associate Professor Ts Gs Dr. Syed Mohd Fairuz Bin Syed Mohd Dardin Director (Center for Student Leadership & Excellence, JHEPA, UPNM) REVOLUTIONIZING STUDENT OVERSIGHT: HARNESSING E-TRANSCRIPTS FOR COMPREHENSIVE STUDENT ACTIVITY MONITORING Abstract The diverse range of student-led activities, including clubs and societies, at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) fosters a dynamic environment where students serve both as organizers and participants. However, this vibrant ecosystem also presents challenges, particularly in terms of cross-pollination and the lack of a centralized platform for activity recording and analysis. Additionally, individual students often struggle to monitor their participation across various activities throughout their academic journey, leading to potential oversight and loss of valuable experiences. The introduction of Integrated Student Affairs Data (IstAD) at UPNM offers a promising solution to address these challenges by providing a centralized monitoring system. This platform facilitates the recording of student activities, culminating in the generation of e-Transcripts. These e-Transcripts serve as a comprehensive record of students' involvement, eliminating the need for manual extraction of certificates for inclusion in CVs. However, the system itself must be embedded with the correct ecosystem in order to ensure its effectiveness especially in creating Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) for the Student Bodies. The complete usage of the system indicates that IStAD has successfully captured over 70% of student activities. While some challenges related to human inefficiency persist, this approach has significantly enriched student motivation to participate in a wide array of activities organized by various student bodies. G01 RETHINKING CO-CURRICULAR PEDAGOGY IN MALAYSIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS: A CRITICAL EXAMINATION FOR ENHANCED STUDENT ENGAGEMENT FAIZAH IDRUS Credited Co-Curricular Centre, International Islamic University Malaysia, Jalan Gombak,53100, Kuala Lumpur There is an urgent need to critically examine the state of co-curricular pedagogy in Malaysian universities, with a specific focus on developing a transformative framework departing from traditional methods. The main problem is that current approaches are inadequate, hence a new framework that is not based on traditional techniques is needed. Despite the acknowledged significance of co-curricular activities in shaping wellrounded graduates, there is a pressing need to address the limited engagement of students and the diverse perspectives among faculty members. The significance of co-curricular activities in shaping well-rounded graduates underscores the need for an in-depth analysis of current practices. This research employs a qualitative inquiry approach, to comprehensively explore students' engagement in co-curricular activities. By delving into dominant socio-cultural dynamics, the study aims to unravel the complexities influencing students' participation, identifying obstacles, and revealing enablers that shape the present co-curricular environment. The core objective of this research is to formulate or reformulate a co-curricular pedagogy aligned with the diverse cultural fabric of Malaysia. Recognising and incorporating unique contextual factors impacting higher education institutions is paramount. The research design meticulously examines global best practices while maintaining sensitivity to local nuances, ensuring the resulting framework is not only theoretically robust but also practically applicable within the Malaysian educational context. Additionally, this study goes beyond proposing a theoretical framework; it intends to pilot and validate its application in selected higher education institutions. The iterative process of development, implementation, and feedback aims to contribute to a dynamic and adaptive co-curricular pedagogy, fine-tuned based on real-world experiences. This research aspires to make meaningful contributions to the academic discourse on co-curricular pedagogy. Simultaneously, it seeks to provide actionable insights for educators, administrators, and policymakers in Malaysian higher education. By critically examining and reshaping co-curricular practices, the study intends to pave the way for a more holistic and engaging educational experience that transcends traditional boundaries, nurturing graduates equipped to tackle the multifaceted challenges of the 21st century. While hard skills were the only skills emphasised in the past, there is an increasing demand for graduates to have a set of generic qualities and skills to sustain the industry. The combination of hard and soft skills is essential to be future-ready graduates. In the case of the built environment, employers have addressed the gap between education and industry. Mismatched skills between education and industry is an issue that is not new and has been a rising issue in the past years. This research methodology involves conducting a systematic literature review with 25 index and non-indexed journals published from year 2019 to 2023 to analyse the common soft skills and other skills considered into developing future-ready graduate skills set within the employers’ perspective. The findings further identified the common attributes associated with graduates which were developed into a conceptual framework as reference to both higher institutions and practitioners. G05 THE IMPORTANCE OF SUNNAH-BASED ACTIVITIES AS PART OF CREDITED CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES NUR SHAHEERA BINTI KAMIS1, FATIN NABILA BINTI AB OSMAN2, EISYAH RADHIAH BINTI MOHD YUSOF2 1Kuliyyah of Engineering, International Islamic University Malaysia, 53100, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor 2Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, Internaional Islamic University Malaysia, 53100, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor. The second most popular religion in the world, Islam, dramatically influences people’s lives. The Syariah, which places equal emphasis on the hereafter and the current world, governs Muslims’ way of life. Maintaining a balance in one’s physical, mental and interpersonal relationships is just one of the many advantages of upholding Islamic principles. A critical issue of discussion is that many need to be made aware of how to incorporate the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad into pupils’ lives through extracurricular activities. Prophet Muhammad established the notion of “riyadah”, which promotes physical fitness, highlighting the significance of physical fitness in the early Islamic era. Faith is said to depend on one’s health, and the Quran and Hadith strongly emphasize preparing a military that is fit for battle. Coexisting with extracurricular activities and the Prophet’s Sunnah can help achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include gender equality and overall health and well-being. Thus, this paper aims to identify the extent to which mandatory Sunnah-based programs in colleges and universities can advance gender parity, health advantages, and the formation of moral character. G06 MAPPING EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES TO COCURRICULAR PILLARS: A CASE STUDY OF DENTAL STUDENTS AT UNIVERSITI MALAYA NORINTAN AB-MURAT 1,2*, PONMALAR A/P ALAGAPPAR2, FARIDAH CHE HUSAIN2 1Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, 50603, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 2Internship Training and Academic Enrichment Centre (CITrA), Universiti Malaya, 50603, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The National Higher Education Strategic Plan advocates for the holistic development of graduates, emphasizing the acquisition of specific foundational skills crucial for employability. This study explores the alignment of extra-curricular activities (ECAs) organized by dental student bodies and the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya (UM) with the eight pillars of co-curricular courses endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). A comprehensive mapping process was undertaken to correlate ECAs with the eight designated pillars, facilitated by the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs at the dental school, and the two presidents of dental students’ organizations. Subsequent endorsement from key figures overseeing ECA activities within the university validated the mapping process. Findings revealed that most ECAs conducted at the dental school in UM could be mapped to the eight MOHE's pillars. All 13 activities conducted by the student bodies encompass the Leadership Pillar, as students are required to form an organizing committee to plan, implement and evaluate each activity. Three of the activities organized by the student bodies incorporate cultural elements, while four activities align with the Sports and Community Service pillars. Notably, Volunteerism emerged as an underrepresented pillar across the activities conducted by the student bodies, but this pillar can be mapped with the compulsory workshop of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) conducted annually by the faculty. ECAs conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry align with the overarching goals of the MOHE, showcasing the faculty’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded graduates. Despite the demanding academic schedule, dental students demonstrated remarkable engagement in ECAs, balancing academic rigor with extracurricular pursuits. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 2Jabatan Kejuruteraan Elektrik & Elektronik, Fakulti Kejuruteraan, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, 57000 Sungai Besi, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia In Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL), students often create clubs and societies based on common interests and goals, which manifest as student bodies. These student bodies organize numerous activities that are often open to all students, not just club members. These activities inculcate soft skills for lifelong learning, helping students develop essential life skills such as effective communication, organization, and teamwork. Although IHL promotes these activities, there must be a system in place to ensure they are monitored, carried out systematically, and recorded accordingly. This can be achieved by creating clear and systematic strategies for Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) to promote a high-performance culture among students. Effective programs with clear outcomes have shown significant improvements in collaborative initiatives among student bodies, particularly through high-impact programs that contribute to the community. Creating recognition programs at the end of academic terms provides tangible goals and motivation for the student bodies to strive, thus fostering healthy competition among them. G17 INTER-FLOOR LEAKAGE DISPUTES IN STRATA COMMUNITIES A PHENOMENOLOGY SITI ROSEMAWAR MOHD SAHI 1,2, NORNGAINY MOHD TAWIL 1*, ADI IRFAN CHE-ANI1 1Department Architecture and Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, 43600 Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia The dispute over inter-floor leakage (IFL) is among the highest claims reported by the Strata Management Tribunal. Regulation 55 in the Strata Management Regulations (Maintenance and Management) 2015 under the Strata Management Act 2013 defines IFL as a defect in a strata lot or building experiencing dampness, moisture, or water penetration. Several reasons for this issue include design problems, poor workmanship, and lack of regular maintenance. This defect directly and indirectly affects the strata community in terms of repair costs, safety, and health. This research aims to explore the involvement, responsibilities, and understanding of those involved in managing IFL. The research approach used is qualitative phenomenology focusing on indepth semi-structured interviews. This involved 20 informants, including nine owners, three representatives of Management Body, three field experts, and five key persons from government agency: Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (KPKT) and Pesuruhjaya Bangunan (COB). Purposive sampling techniques were utilized in selecting these informants. The qualitative data analysis software ATLAS.ti version 23 was used to manage documents (transcripts, recordings, and reports), process coding, and form themes. The analysis results show that the IFL regulations have both positive and negative effects on the Management Body and strata community, forming three themes in understanding the phenomenology of IFL disputes: quality management, effective legislation, and an efficient dispute resolution system. The implications of this IFL dispute research are crucial as a guide for the Management Body to reduce disputes by establishing quality strata management that benefits harmonious living in line with National Community Policy and National Housing Policy.
