Literally, dissent means the holding or expression of opinions at variance with
those commonly or officially held.

Dissents speak to a future age – Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Celebration of humanity, attainment of freedom, prosperity in a society,
world peace was all made possible by those people who had a clarity backed
dissenting opinion of their own in spite of typical chaos. And for we the dissent-
ers, clarity on actions seems more important than facts. Clarity is the counterbal-
ance of profound thoughts - Luc de Clapiers.

That brave-hearted who choose to convey theme or idea portraying the im-
portance of breaking stereotypical shackles of evolution is always treated with
contempt since we are all taught to live within the boundaries or shackles of a
chaotic world. Society being sceptical, cynical and questioning are all parts in
it where our sanity, guts are questioned and thus being stamped as ‘anomalous
and eccentrics’.

Magazine chooses their editors; the act of creation is not entirely a rational
and conscious one, where the ideas in our mind exquisitely came out in the
form of an actual magazine of which we are proud of, each element has been
painstakingly integrated and every moment spent during this journey was in-
deed an experience.

The main task again was to create the magazine cover page which would
creatively convey the theme. Real life situational cases came into the mind
which shows the true colour of compulsion, which denies one’s freedom of ex-
pression; to be quiet, unheard and to close their eyes. Followed by the pile-up
of images, drawings which symbolises the plot ‘Ethir’.

The attitudinal ambivalence approach towards something defines a doer or
dabbler. And sometimes a doer is often titled as a dissenter since they choose to
convey what they’ve got to tell, which ironically might not be cogent or sound,
for the mediocre.

By all means. Let’s be explicit about while flipping the pages. Since any minute
thing even contributes to the best of appreciation, all the readers are requested
to go through the entire magazine at least at once. And when it doesn’t exist,
design it.

A man doesn’t know what he knows until he knows what he doesn’t know -
Laurence J. Peter. Be the man, be the dissenter.

It was time. It was the need of the hour, for those who truly value all the
principles of democracy, including dissent, to be the most forceful in speak-
ing up, standing up and speaking out. It was indeed important to break
the hegemonic barriers and drown it in the torrent of creativity. We proudly
present to you the college magazine, Ethir 2k18. The magazine is of special
significance to us, as the college is about to get accredited by NAAC. It is
quite an easy task to move with the wind. It is not difficult to sing along with
a choir. However, to be yourself and give voice to your individual thus cur-
rents is not that easy. Sometimes, it produces discordant voices. Sometimes,
people raise their eyebrows in a frown when you do that. It is thus easy to
comply and conform but when you have to dissent, you find yourself on a
slippery ground.

Yet, it is indeed significant. It is significant because, it is the dissenters, who
have thrived in bringing changes to the world. The progress of human socie-
ty has always been the result of the guts and gumption of those brave hearts
who have dared to do something different, innovative and thus branded as
‘Deviant’ from tradition.

Status-quo has never been an answer, it is degenerative and counter-pro-
ductive. Questioning the stagnancy of Status-quo, and reaching out to the
vibes of productive and dynamic youth has always been inevitable.

Ms. Emily Ittiachan

The world of students forms the most vibrant, dynamic and fragrant
group of society. They crave for knowledge and are eager to know the
mysteries of nature and life. In this regard, education of youth has para-
mount importance. NIMIT gives due importance to the intellectual, psy-
chological, and spiritual dimension of every student. The students are
helped to form their own personalised value system that will include not
only human race, but the entire ecosystem for its preservation and safety.

Talents unexpressed are talents wasted. Through the magazine the ed-
itorial board is trying to bring out the sweeter unheard melodies and the
inborn talents within NIMITians.

I congratulate the Editorial Board for bringing out Ethir 2k18 with wide
range of literary forms maintaining good standard and having innovative
ways of presentation. I am sure that this is a good opportunity for the stu-
dents to express themselves creatively which will go on a long way in de-
veloping and mastering their skills and talents.

gratulate the Management and all the students and staff for their unrelent-
ing support and cooperation extended towards NAAC.

It is also a great joy to see the Editorial Board of the college, taking efforts
to release the magazine “Ethir”. Best wishes for all their efforts and May God

Annual Report

Vice-Principal

Ms. Emily Ittiachan

We are nearing the end of another fruitful, challenging and exciting
academic year. This annual report chronicles some of the significant

events of the college through the year 2018-19.

It was yet another glorious year for all the departments in academics. The college
has an efficient and competent staff of sixty-nine full-time teachers, twelve part-
time teachers, five technical staff members and 41 non-teaching staff. At present
One thousand two hundred students were in the rolls of the college. Ms. Nahala
A V, of the commerce dept, secured the third rank in the M. Com examination of
the University of Calicut. The first batch of the BA English Language and Literature
students of the academic year 2015-2018 graduated with flying colors, securing 100
per cent results at the university exams. The University results of all the other batches
were fairly good this year too. It would have been unattainable without the con-
stant commitment and dedication of the college management and the teachers.
We congratulate our students who have made us proud with their achievements.

Naipunnya has a rich tradition of honoring the best students by giving awards
and endowments to the best academic performer from each department and the
best outgoing student from the college. They are awarded every year with a me-
mento and a cash prize.

The college has also reached another landmark achievement. It is on the path of
the NAAC (National Accreditation Assessment Council) accreditation process. All
the departments of the college unanimously strove together to file and upload the
necessary documents for NAAC.

Each Department in NIMIT makes sure that they enrich and enhance the quality
of the students through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. National semi-
nars, workshops and Dept Fests were organized this academic year in their respec-
tive fields. Industrial visits and cultural visits were also conducted.

The dept of Commerce organized their Fest Resonance, The dept of CS orga-
nized Zenorix, the IT Fest, the second time. The Hotel Management Dept organized
Food Fests. To mention a few are the Koibito, the theme dinner. The soup, the pas-
ta and the seafood fests. The Dept of English organized the Research Forum, held
competitions such as One Book One Naipunnya, inculcating the habit of reading
in students, and the best reader competition in connection with the Reading week.
Literature Students visited the Matrubhumi International Festival of Letters which was
held in Trivandrum.

The Department of Physical Education was active through the year 2018-19, or-
ganizing and participating in events at the Calicut University D’zone, Inter Zone, Dis-
trict, State, Annual Sports Meet (VIVA-2019) and Inter-House Competitions in various
events.

The sports stars of our college have also made us proud by bringing laurels home.
Students attended state and national sports events and championships under the
efficient guidance and leadership of Mr. Sreejith, HoD of the Physical Education
Dept. Professional coaches were brought in to train the students. Twelve students
represented Calicut university and three represented the state.

The College Union, under the effective leadership of the chairman, Mr. Abhai
Chackochan, has greatly contributed to the college by actively getting involved
in all the main events of the college, in planning, organizing and in execution of
Vismaya, the arts day, Viva, the sports day, Ananya, the women’s day, the D zone
competitions and Snehasangamam.

Students took part in the D Zone competitions held at Sri C. Achutha Menon Gov-
ernment College, Kuttanallur. More than a hundred students participated in various
events. Our students participated in 28 individual events and 9 group events.

Another memorable day of the college was Snehasangamam when the less priv-
ileged were invited to the college from the nearby old age homes and orphanag-
es. The second-year students took up the cause and arranged a day for them. 481
inmates from nineteen institutions were brought in here to benefit from this laudable
activity. Lunch was served, and students Interacted with them. Gifts were distributed
to them according to their needs. It was a truly fruitful day.

The Community Service of Naipunnya College SWAS (Service With A Smile) of-
fers ample opportunities to students to volunteer to help those in need. Outreach
programs were organized. Students of all the batches visit old age homes and or-
phanages, distribute food packets, and volunteer to take classes in government
schools. Moreover, Hair donation and blood donation campaigns were also orga-
nized. Students and teachers actively contributed to these programs. Apart from
these, awareness classes on drugs and alcohol, and safe driving are held on a reg-
ular basis.

Naipunnya has brought various clubs under its umbrella, with the intention of mak-
ing the students aware of the contemporary and sensitive issues happening around
the globe. These clubs have contributed immensely to the academic and extra-cur-
ricular growth of the student community. SWAS, the social service club, The Vino di
Vino Club, The Bhoomitra Sena, Environment club, the Music Club, the Dance Club
Xtremes and Tarang, the Pain and Palliative Care Unit, the Finance Club, the Traffic
Club, the HR Club, the Marketing Club, and the Women’s Cell have all played major
roles in transforming the campus into a beehive of activity with their initiatives and
contributions.

Naipunnya had to go through a difficult phase when the floods hit the shores of
Kerala. Families of students, the teaching and the non-teaching fraternity of the
college were affected by it to a great extent, but we braved through the turbulent
times and stood as a firm rock of support through the time of adversity.

We appreciate the efforts of all the members of the Naipunnya family who served
the community sacrificially. Students and teachers lent a helping hand to those who
were in dire need by supplying them with the basic necessities. Students also visited
teachers’ homes to help them clean their premises after the floods. Money was col-
lected and contributed to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund for rebuilding our
state.

The college as ever is expanding to new horizons with better infrastructure by pro-
viding enhanced amenities and facilities to students. A spacious auditorium which
has a seating capacity of more than two thousand has been completed this year.
It witnessed some of the highlighted events of the college such as the Arts Day and
The Snehasangamam program. The chapel was also renovated and given an im-
pressive facelift.

As we look back at the events of this academic year, we realize that we were
upheld during the challenging days by the Almighty God who gave us the strength
we needed each day to carry on.

I take this opportunity to extend our profound gratitude and appreciation to our
beloved Principal Rev. Fr Saje Peter, who was always there for us, guiding us at every
step and directing us in the right path to achieve our motto, ‘reach the unreach-
able’. I owe my gratitude to the patrons, the management, the dept heads and all
the teaching and non-teaching fraternity for their undaunting support and perse-
verance throughout this academic year.

Thank you all and a have a great day.

IT Department, as a team, in NIMIT monitor the maintenance of all computer systems,
network services and related devices, software and IT related functions. The main duties
and responsibilities entrusted on us are the maintenance services including hardware,
networking, software and Internet of Things.

Hardware maintenance includes assembling and installations of the new computers
systems, printers and other electronic devices in the computer labs, classrooms and staff
rooms of each block. We have also taken steps to improve the networking facilities in the
campus, checking network connections and internet facilities. We have played a major
role in servicing hardware products.

IT department has shown her excellence in software maintenance by introducing our
new eCollege software “NIMITXpert”, where we manage the personal information of the
students, attendance entry, marks tabulation etc. Another achievement of the IT de-
partment is the installation of KOHA Library Automation System for our library. Other soft-
ware we are maintaining is NIMIT Tech_Support, to register IT related complaints/requests
which can be monitored and solved more effectively and “NIMITAlert”, which popups
all the news and events happening in the campus. This year, the IT department has de-
veloped software for late marking. Using a barcode scanner, late comer’s ID card will
be scanned and the late slip will be printed in the reception itself. Other achievements

of the year include the developments of software: “MentorMate” and “MeetingMate”.
We also developed software for collecting the details of new admission students and
thus generating the ID cards and bus concession cards automatically using the software.
Development of Students Feedback software is another success of the IT team.

NOTE (Naipunnya Online Training and Examination) center under the IT department is
regularly conducting the recruitment drives of ESAF bank on the first and third Saturdays
of every month. NSEIT, the IT division of National Stock Exchange is also conducting online
examinations in our computer lab for Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), FACT,

not far behind, we are updating our knowledge and skills on the latest software, imple-
menting it in Naipunnya, making it easier and friendlier to the users.
