School Rules
School is a community where pupils are encouraged to exercise good
sense, courtesy and consideration for themselves, others, their environ-
ment and the wider community
1 All pupils need to attend, and be punctual for, school and classes and come
prepared to work
2 Pupils should behave responsibly and use appropriate language when
in school
3 Pupils need to be on the school premises throughout the school day
and should not leave school without following the correct procedures
4 Pupils should report any illness to their class teacher or form teacher.
Accidents should be reported to the nearest member of staff.
5 The school operates a complete no-smoking policy and this includes
school grounds. All visitors, staff and pupils must adhere to this policy.
6 Bullying or fighting in any form, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

7 Pupils should respect their school environment and grounds.
8 Graffiti is unacceptable in any form.
9 Pupils must ensure they use bins provided for litter.
(Blank)10 Pupils must not touch or interfere with security, emergency or fire fighting
equipment. School uniform regulations must be adhered to.
11 All pupils are required to wear the school uniform correctly coming to,
during, and going from school. The wearing of trainers, hoodies and other
non-regulation clothing is not allowed.
Please note that when a pupil wears the school uniform, he/she is representing
school in the community and should always present in a neat and tidy state.
Jewellery
No more than two earrings may be worn. An earring may be worn in the lower
lobe of the ear only. Any earring worn may only be a stud or small hoop.
Please note: for Health and Safety reasons no other form of body piercing jew-
ellery can be permitted.
Make-up
Nail varnish must be colourless. Make-up must be kept to a minimum

Hair styles
Hair styles must not be extreme or likely to cause offence and colour must be
kept to a natural colour
Mobile phones:
These must be used in accordance with the mobile phone policy as outlined in
E-safety policy. Phones should be kept out of sight and not used in class without
direction from the class teacher
Unapproved use of phones may result in confiscation of the phone (Please see
E-safety policy)
12 The following are examples of items not permitted in school:
• No dangerous or offensive objects are permitted in school
• No matches, lighters, cigarettes or Fireworks of any description
• Drugs
• Alcohol
• Laser Pens
• Solvents and aerosols
• Photographic, video or voice recording devices can only be used in
accordance with school policy
• Chewing gum
• Permanent markers or Correction fluid e.g. Tippex.
13 Pupils must take care of school books and equipment
14 Pupils must consume food and drink in designated areas only: canteens
and assembly hall
15 Certain areas of school are out of bounds:
• Staffroom and staff corridor
• Mezzanine beside staff toilets on the first floor
• All toilets designated ‘disabled’, except for those pupils who have been
given permission to use them.
• The lifts, except for those pupils who have been given a lift pass
• At break and lunch times all teaching areas, such as classrooms and
sports halls unless there is adult supervision
• Along all perimeter fencing
• Landscaped areas
• At break and lunch times pupils should be in the canteens, assembly
hall, outside playground or in designated lunch time clubs areas
• All other areas which may be designated from time to time

16 Stealing is an unacceptable form of behaviour; pupils must not borrow from
anyone without first asking for permission to do so
17 When using stairways and corridors pupils should always keep to the left and
move in a sensible manner.
Parents should note that:
• Parents will be requested to pay for the repair or replacement of an item
of property which is damaged as a result of a wilful or deliberate act by
their child.
• Should an incident occur, school reserves the right to clarify the
situation and, if necessary, ask those present to write an account
of what happened.
• Non adherence to any school rule may lead to sanctions being applied
as indicated in the School’s Behaviour for Learning Policy
• The Board of Governors retains the right to request the expulsion of a
pupil for either an accumulation of offences or for a single major offence.
• School may in certain circumstances involve the PSNI, or other
appropriate agency, if this is deemed to be necessary.
The Board of Governors retains the right to amend the school rules during
the academic year.
Classroom Rules
1 Be punctual.
2 Line up quietly outside the room and wait for the teacher to invite you in.
3 Be prepared with the correct equipment for each lesson.
4 Be prepared with the correct attitude to learn.
5 Listen to and follow the teacher’s instructions (verbal and written).
6 Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
7 Do not disturb others.
8 Follow all safety rules.

Transport Rules
At Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College we actively encourage good
behaviour on home-school transport by:
• establishing guidelines for behaviour
• supervising pupils to and from transport in a calm, orderly way
• using rewards, consequences, to assist the drivers in their maintenance
of good behaviour
• liaising closely with Translink officers
• informing parents of our expectations of good behaviour and of any serious,
or ongoing, misconduct
• interviewing pupils involved in any misconduct and if necessary taking
appropriate disciplinary action
Misconduct:
• general misbehaviour
• inappropriate behaviour to other pupils, driver or members of the public
• abusive language
• bad manners
• not remaining seated during transit
Serious Misconduct:
• failure to carry out an instruction
• spitting or throwing objects
• verbal/physical abuse
Severe Misconduct:
• behaviour which seriously endangers the Health and Safety of the driver,
pupils, other road users and which cannot be tolerated

We are all responsible to ensure that our school is free from all forms of bullying.
We have a team of Anti-Bullying Ambassadors who are working to help us to
fight bullying but we should remember that every pupil at Bangor Academy and
Sixth Form College is responsible for making this happen.
