The Grand High Priest’s Allocution
Companions:
First of all I would like to say thank you. Thank you to all the companions throughout
the state that have supported your Grand Chapter programs throughout this last year.
Thank you to the elected and appointed officers who have performed their duties to the
best of their abilities. Thank you to the companions from Prather and Noblesville York
Right who have opened this Grand Chapter and supported me in my travels throughout
the state the Grand Chapter line.
We have some good examples this year. Companions from Mooresville York Right
please stand. There probably is not been that many York Rites throughout the state
who have not seen these guys invade your stated meetings or the degree work.
I know they’ve had a good time doing it and we’ve enjoyed seeing them. I’ve gone to
places I never would have expected to see them at, but they’ve been there. So
companions I think they need some recognition for their accomplishments.
Would the companions from Middletown chapter stand up please. These guys have
done a lot of degree work. Jim has been doing great. If you’ve seen him do degree
work, he’s one of these guys with amazing memories. He’s got the ritual for the Blue
Lodge and now he’s getting it in York rite. Guys, you’ve done a great job.
On the other hand we have seen several chapters close this year. Unfortunately it is
not always been done in proper form. If things get so bad you feel you need to close
your chapter please look at your constitution and bylaws. Those need to be followed.
Before it gets to that point we hope you ask the Grand Chapter for help in seeing what
we can do to reignite the companions in your chapter. Unfortunately we can’t do it all
for you. You have to be committed to putting in a lot of hard work yourself. There are
several chapters here that have come back from being almost closed. Please keep that
in mind.
This past year I made the following appointments:
Companion Sean Jones was appointed a special deputy to Hendrix county UD
Past Grand High Priest Kris Phillips was appointed special deputy for the closing of
Rennsalaer # 150 chapter
Companion Steve Arlington was appointed to be Grand Rep to Idaho
Companion Jeff Jordan appointed to be Grand Rep to Tennessee
Companion Michael Gillard to be Grand Rep to New South Wales
Past Grand Master Jeff Zaring as Grand Rep to Belgium
I have traveled throughout the state as much as I could when work or health did not get
in the way. I’ve enjoyed the instructionals, degree work I have assisted in and stated
meetings I have attended. I’ve made good friends throughout the state. I truly feel that
these friendships will continue throughout the rest of my life. Yes there’ve been
disagreements, but they’ve been few and far between, most of the time they were just
differences of opinion on the correct way to go, not because of ulterior motives. I pray
that what has happened in the past (We all know what I am refering to ) will stay there.
People will just go about making this a better fraternity, or anything else.
20
Thanks again to everyone who helped make Royal Arch Masonry better this year. I
hope that my being Grand High Priest has made it better and I have full faith that next
year’s Grand officers will continue to improve it to the best of their ability.
I will make the following recommendations:
Grand High Priest Recommendations
1. Distribute the Grand Chapter constitution and general regulations as reformatted and
contents verified by Companion Dave Wood, Grand King. (I want to say thank you very
much to Dave for all the work he’s done. He has it all in one common font, checked all
the punctuation and verified that all bylaws passed or renewed, were up to date.
2. Allow the local chapters to use the Mark Master degree as a test recruitment tool for
the following capitular year under the following conditions:
a. The local chapter may set the petition fee and you may keep the whole
amount. No amount will be due Grand Chapter and neither petition fees or per capita
and no dues may be charged by the local chapter to those candidates.
b. The names of the masons who receive the Mark Master as a stand alone
degree will be retained by the local chapter and also be sent to the Grand Secretary for
his record keeping.
c. Masons who receive the Mark Master degree as a stand alone degree may
continue his capitular degrees at any chapter. That chapter will need to verify their
standing with the Grand Chapter or the chapter they received their Mark Master degree
at. The local chapter they continue their degree at may at their discretion either charge
them their standard petition fee or give a reduced rate.
d. Continue the dispensation for the David Widmoyer Lodge and Mark Master UD
for use by the Grand Chapter for this endeavor.
e. There be follow up with the Grand Chapter at next year’s convocation.
(a side note: We have talked about this at Noblesville. Companion Michael Galliard
has been talking to some people. There’s a lot of excitement if this is past. It gives
people a real good opportunity to get exposed to York Rite work and the work we can
do without fearing obligated to attend anywhere else. We did it several years ago as a
Grand Chapter and it was very well received. Most of those did go on to get the rest of
their York Rite work.
3. Continue support of the youth groups. Explore further ways to support them besides
monetary support.
4. That the dispersion of the ritual for test purposes for the last several years be
adopted as the official ritual for use by the Royal Arch Chapters in the state of Indiana.
That ways be investigated to electronically distribute the new versions as well as printed
distribution.
I wish to give special thank you to the companions Brian Lewis, Matt Lowe and others
through their efforts to help improve the ritual. A lot of people from Prather put a lot of
hard work in to that. Thank you Brian.
5. That dispensation be continued for 1845 UD chapter. And also 1845 connect with
official bylaws by next years Grand Session. If we expect you guys to do it, we need to
do it too.
21
6. Continue support for the Royal Arch Research assistance philanthropy and look for
ways to broaden that financial support and fundraisers.
7. Find better ways to improve communication between Grand Chapter, Constituent
Chapters and companions.
The only persons who has ever told me to talk a long time is Tom Barker, he’s the
secretary of my Blue Lodge. Companions, I don’t talk a whole bunch, I hope what you
have seen throughout this last year that you think Grand Chapter is better off. A lot of
these Grand Chapter Officers have put in a lot of hard work. I hope you support them
through the coming year.
8. That the membership database be released and several chapters be used to test it.
Thank you.
Resolution Committee Report # 2
To: The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the State of Indiana
Most Excellent Grand High Priest:
Your committee on Resolutions moves the referral of the following
Recommendations of the MEGHP:
To the Committee on Finance: Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8
To the Jurisprudence Committee: Numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8
Respectfully Submitted,
W. Kris Phillips, PGHP, for the Committee
Unfinished Business Committee Report:
Due to illness, the Committee was unable to meet and Most Excellent Grand High Priest
Jeff Jordan appointed Companion W. Kris Phillips PGHP to make the report of the
Committee. The unfinished business left over from the 2012 Grand Convocation was
the actions to be taken on Resolutions 5, 6, and 7. The Committee felt that notification
to the local Chapters and them to their membership could not be done in a timely
manner and to make sure all were properly informed the resolutions 5, 6 and 7 would
have to be carried over to 2014 and proper notice given if actions were to be taken on
said resolutions. I move for the adoption of this report.
W. Kris Phillips, for the Committee

22
Page 46: Resolution #1 should read Recommendation #1
Page 51: Resolution #4 was withdrawn not passed,
Resolutions 5, 6, 7 having not been advertized in a timely matter should be withdrawn,
therefore, we move to
dispense with the reading of the same and their adoption as published.
Respectfully Submitted,

Grand Secretary’s Report
It has been my pleasure to again serve as your Grand Secretary.
I think I am finally getting my feet on the ground.
I am disappointed that as of this writing 3 chapters have not filed annual reports. The
Grand Officers have been informed and have been working on getting the necessary
information and assisting these chapters which seem to be in trouble.
I want to remind you that the Annual Report is the summary of your monthly reports. If
those are filed in a timely manner the compilation of per capita will go smoothly.
31
Secretaries and High Priests you are are the source of my information. Annual reports
are due by the 15th of January and per capita by the 1st of February. Please have your
information in order so these dates may be met. It is your responsibility to meet those
dates and if not I will withhold credentials for the Grand Convocation until per capita is
paid.
Red Books. Information is due as soon as possible after your elections. My office and
their office scrambles even after the 1st of February to meet printing deadlines. I have

RARA Report
To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Officers and Companions all,
It is hard to believe that it is the close of another year for Royal Arch Research
Assistance. As for me, I have also arrived at the close of a chapter in my
responsibilities as the State RARA Executive Officer. When I accepted this position five
years ago I had no idea what to do or where I would end up at the completion of my
tenure. I have witnessed some bumps in the road but for the most part it has been an
adventure in the fast lane of life’s experiences.
I am pleased to report that Indiana remains in the Top 10 of Grand Jurisdictions in
contributions to RARA internationally. The commitment of the companions within the
State to maintain this mark of distinction speaks of the commitment our companions
place in finding a treatment for this disorder.
I am pleased to report that this year, for the first time, RARA was one of the selected
philanthropies to receive support from the Indiana Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern
Star. I wish to thank the Officers and members for their generous support and all the
courtesies extended to all of the speakers who were invited to bring the message of
what the mission of RARA is into their meetings. I hope this is only the beginning of a
long association together.
My thanks to the Chapters, members and Officers who have worked to find ways to
encourage charitable giving for the philanthropy during my tenure of RARA.
To the Grand High Priests and Grand Officers whom I have had the privilege to work
with these past years, thank you for your faith in my abilities to serve in this position and
the confidence you expressed of the programs initiated. It has helped to make this
appointment a rewarding experience.

Necrology Report
To the Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Grand Chapter Officers, Members of the
Indiana Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, and Companion Royal Arch Masons.
The Scripture tells us for everything under heaven there is a time and a season.
A time to be born and a time to die, death comes to us all, and the wisest knows not
how soon or when it may come to us and call us to our Heavenly Home.
We now take a moment to remember all those Companions who have passed from this
life:
The Golden Chain
“We little knew that morning that God
Was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same;
But as God calls us
One by one, the Chain
Will link again.”
Let us pray: Lord we thank you that death is limited: It cannot cripple love, it cannot
erode faith. It cannot eat away peace, it cannot destroy confidence, or kill friendships, or
shut out memories. It will never be able to shut out courage, and it cannot invade the
soul, or reduce eternal live, or lessen the power of the resurrection. Let us always praise
You for Your strength in the light of our weakness.

I met George in the early 1990’s and we soon learned that aside from both of us
being Ministers, that our Ministry’s had taken some of the same direction,
particularly dealing with those who were actively dying, and their families.
Today this is known as Hospice. We used to get a laugh out of the fact we did
Hospice work, before it was named. Then we realized that this dated us, and
thought it best we didn’t say too much about pre dating the name of the type of
Ministry, we had been called to perform. We recounted the many times we had
been present with family, friends, watching, sometimes holding their hands as
they took their last breath in this life and began living in the next life. Many times
we discussed how being invited to share in this event, passing from life to life
was a great blessing, and also was so very draining on the emotions. We shared
the many near death experiences that people had shared with us, and I think
developed friendship common to many people who share the same experiences.
Humor is sometimes the best way to deal with stress, and George had a great
sense of humor. Every time we had a conversation he would say have you heard
this one. If I had, it didn’t matter I would hear it again, and laugh again. I know it
is difficult to picture us telling one another jokes, because we both liked to talk,
and couldn’t wait for the punch line so the other could begin telling another one.
I really can’t share them all, but temptation leads me to two, one is very short.
First did you know: “It is better to be seen, than viewed?” The second one, I
hadn’t had a chance to tell George yet, so I will do it now. Two men who had
been friends since childhood, one was an Attorney, the other owned a
Restaurant. Over the years both had enjoyed success. The Restaurant owners
business had grown to the point that expansion became necessary and he built
a new building at a new location. The day of the Grand Opening, his friend
decided to send him an arrangement of flowers, wishing him Good Luck. The
Florist made a mistake and sent the wrong flowers. The Flower Arrangement
which arrived had been intended to go to a funeral. This angered the owner of
the Restaurant, because he thought his friend was making fun of his expansion,
and maybe thought he couldn’t run a larger business. This led to a phone call to
his Attorney Friend; soon maybe not to be a friend, and an unloading of
emotions, best described by the lack of any type of anger management. Where
upon, the attorney called the Florist, and unloading all of this emotion upon him,
and expressing the embarrassment, for both himself and his friend. The Florist
expresses his heart felt sorrow for this mistake, and tells him how sorry he is,
that this happened. This wasn’t good enough for the Attorney, and so he went
through the whole thing again, and received another apology. This still wasn’t
good enough, and this same process happened two more times. Then the Florist
39
became upset, and said, “If you have problems? Think! About my problem!
Somewhere right now in this city there are five funerals taking place, and at one
of those funerals, there is an arrangement of flowers, in the shape of a horse
shoe, and the sign reads: GOOD LUCK! I HOPE YOU WILL BE HAPPY IN YOUR
NEW LOCATION!”
This reminds me of the Indiana Freemason Winter of 2012, which may have been
the last article George had written. The title “Do You Know How To Make God
Laugh?” George quoted: “Humorist and Brother Will Rogers: perhaps best
suggested a proper understanding of personal difficulties when he wrote, “The
worst thing that can happen to you might be the best thing that happens to
you.”We sometimes think that death is the worst thing that can happen to us, yet
the Apostle Paul said, “To live is Christ, and to die is gain.” As humans we think
in the physical not the spiritual. When we pray for the healing of our body and
the answer is YES! We praise God for the miracle! It is even a bigger miracle
when this happens:
“God saw you
Getting tired
When a cure was
Not to be
So He closed His
arms around you
and whispered
“Come with Me.”
You didn’t deserve
what you went through
and so He gave you…rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when I saw
you sleeping
so peaceful…free
from pain,
I could not wish
40
you back to
suffer that again.”
Scripture Reading: “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed,
we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human
hands. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do
not wish to be unclothed. Therefore we are always confident and know that as
long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith,
not by sight. “
Let us pray: Lord we thank you for George’s life, as a Minister, Father, Husband, and
the example of his faith has he endured the trials of preparing to pass through the
valley of the shadow of death, into the light of new life. Let us each remember Your
word: Whether we live, we live unto the Lord, whether we die, we die unto the Lord:
therefore; whether in life or death or the valley in between, WE ARE THE LORD’S,
and safe in His care. In this through our faith we give you praise honor and glory
forever. A-Men.

Excellent Companion James F. Garland OPC, Most Excellent Grand High Priest Grand
Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Indiana 1993, 1994.
Excellent Companions John A. Wallace OPC, and Roderick Gardner OPC, traveled with Jim
and assisted with Degree work in many Chapters around our state of Indiana. They told me that
when they got in the car, Jim would start to talk and not stop until they had reached the Chapter
they were going to visit. This was probably true because he was the only person who worked
back stage at the Scottish Rite that could carry on a full conversation while setting up the stage
for the next Degree. It was my privilege this many times.
When I first became acquainted with Jim and learned he was from Birdseye, IN. I mentioned the
fact that I had preached at the Birdseye Christian Church once or maybe twice during my days
of student Ministry while attending the Louisville Bible College. During those years I had also
preached at the Old Union Christian Church, Doolittle Mills, and Livingston Christian Church in
Livingston KY. Probably some others I may have forgotten over time. Wow you did a lot of
traveling. Yes, and also in my younger days I used to like to read inscriptions on tombstones in
old cemeteries. I don’t remember how this subject came up in the conversation. Oh, and by the
way Jim, I can’t remember just where in Dubois County, but it was an old cemetery, and I saw
this reading, which I have never forgotten, written on a tombstone. Jim said, OK let’s hear it.
Hear it is, I said:
“Remember dear friend as you pass by
As you are now
So once was I
As I am now
So soon you will be
Prepare for death
And follow me.”
Hey that isn’t half bad: I know I just don’t remember the name on the stone. He asked me, what
I did with this reading. I took it back to the Louisville Bible College and they said they were going
to send it to the Lookout a Christian Church publication. I don’t know if they did or not. But, I said
to Jim would you like to hear the rest of the Story, as Paul Harvey would say. Yes! Being young
and somewhat mischievous I just couldn’t resist writing another verse:
“To follow you
I cannot be content
43
Until I know
Which way you went
Jim gave many hours of service to Masonry, and I could tell by his attitude that it was
always a labor of love. We had many great conversations at the Degree practices held
at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis. I didn’t always listen, but I always found
his advise sound, and worthy of consideration. I could sense he was working on his
spiritual building, and attempting to practice the tenets of Brotherly, Relief, and Truth,
to the greater glory of God.
Those who knew Jim: knew his life wasn’t always easy. God doesn’t promise easy, He
just says, “I will always be with you.” I would like to close with this tribute:
Butterfly’s Wings
“One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon, a man sat and watched the butterfly
for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it
seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could
and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly, he took a pair of
scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged
easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.”
“The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment,
the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would
contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.”
What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that the restricting
cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were
God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be
ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.”
“Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go
through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong
as we could have been. We could never fly.”
“I asked God for Strength
And God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.”
“I asked for Wisdom
And God gave me problems to solve.”
“I asked for Prosperity
44
And God gave me a Brain and Brawn to work.”
“I asked for Courage
And God gave me danger to overcome.”
“I asked for Love
And God gave me troubled people to help.”
“I asked for favors
And God gave me Opportunities.”
“I received nothing I asked for:
But everything I needed.”
Let us pray: Lord we thank you for Jim’s life, for his labor in the vineyard. We
appreciate his inspiration in overcoming the difficulties of life. May we remember in our
walk of faith, even though we consider death the worst, or the greatest difficulty we will
encounter? Even though this may be, yet life and death do not mix, and our Heavenly
Father is a God of the living, and not the dead! We thank You, O Lord, that all the
problems of life, and even death only lead to our ability to live and to fly, in the spiritual
kingdom which lasts forever. A-men.

Address of the M.W. Grand Master
Most Excellent Grand High Priest, Distinguished guests one and all:
It certainly is a pleasure to be here with you today. I notice that this is in the round, I’m
not sure exactly what it is the cause, I guess it’s so you really can’t corner the Grand
High Priest asking him some kind of question. He’s got a way to escape. So what
that’s all about. We’re in the round, right? Don’t let anybody know that.
I also notice that, I don’t see anybody walking that softly but he’s sure got a big stick
over here that he carry’s around. Have you mentioned the fact of where that came
from? You really don’t want to do you?
REGSEC: Which stick are we talking about?
MWGM: We’re pretending it’s not there.
REGSEC: We talking about that one? That’s mine.
MWGM: That’s your big stick! ?
REGSEC: I was going to say something.
MWGM: That’s your big stick? The secretary carries a big stick.
REGSEC: Michael Gillard made that for several of us. You have one don’t you?
MWGM: ….I have two.

One thing I’d like to reiterate, in the Grand Lodge, the special line is a bit of an attempt
to try to make sure we communicate with everyone. Communication is one of the worst
problems we ever have. Seems like no matter what you do, where you put it, how you
put it out there. If I am to put some kind of notice out and say I’d like to see something
happen and say please read. I think what usually happens is: the secretary picks it up,
looks at it, says I got a communication from the grand master, I’ve read it, anybody else
that would like to, sit in the corner over here.
We need to talk more amongst ourselves. We talk enough. I find one of the issues we
usually have is all the problems and issues we talk about, were talking to each other.
We’re not going out to the rest of the world to tell them what’s going on there. I
congratulate the Grand Chapter with their initiative to go out, to have a reason to go out
to the lodges to do presentations to them. You’re attempting to communicate to the
lodges. That’s where your members come from, of course. I think we had pretty good
communications when we had 39 Royal Arch Masons last Saturday morning, 39, that
was a good sized crowd. I was hoping we would have a dozen. I would have been
happy with that. The day progressed on we got a few more but 39 wasn’t too bad a
start. I think my chapter on the west side, for all the efforts they had in putting it
together, it was really great to see them working that hard to try to make it happen.
Unfortunately we are no longer in a position where a York Rite body is able to put all the
different work on the same day. There might be one that can do that. That would be
Prather. I need to acknowledge Prather because Prather was there and did a lot of the
work. However, I can remember Prather (and I haven’t been here forever guys) I can
remember Prather in the late 90’s they were having difficulty trying to pick up the books
and read it. Today, I think they are one of the strongest, if not the strongest York Rites
in the state. So I applaud Prather for what they’ve done.
Your meeting locations are moving around the state. It’s almost a good and a bad idea.
You’ve got to have a good committee to get together to go over all of the issues that
have happened when you move from location to another. My other jurisdiction in PA
every year they always move around, the York Rite always moves around. The Grand
Lodge itself has four different communications every year. Their annual
communication, usually, is in Philadelphia in December. However all their other
communications tend to move around the state. It works well for them. The Chapter,
The Council, The Commandery there all meet on different days and they all meet in
different locations. One may go back to the same place a few times, but it’s nice to see
that you move it around. Hopefully, we’ll have the opportunity for more people and
more companions to attend more meetings along the way.
Thank you Michael for coming in and joining us. We appreciate you being here with us.
Michael Gilliard: Thank you sir.
The couch. That’s only a chair. I assure you next year that if that picture winds up
getting any place your deputy Grand Master can see it, he’s going to be demanding a
couch next year. It’s just kind of where he’s at. If you it gets to the couch next year, I’m
afraid it’s going to be a twin size bed and it will just continue to grow from there. I thank
you for the opportunity of sitting there relaxing. However, my head was getting awfully
heavy and I figured I needed a glass of water to wake me up and make things happen.

Thank you for that distinguished honor, I’ve never seen a Grand Master sitting in a big
easy chair, it was pretty cool.
Those of you who have been to area conferences have heard a lot of information about
what is going on and what is going on next year. We are trying not to say that what we
did yesterday was this this and this. If we did something and accomplished it, hopefully
you’ve seen it. The magazine, I tried not to in each one of my communications to say
“this is what we did last week and this is what we did last month and this is what we
plan to do next month. I attempted in each one of those articles to give us reasons why
we need to continue to pay dues. I attempted to talk to the whole craft as opposed to
just the masters of lodges to say this is where we’re at, where we’re going to and what
we’re going to do. Part of that reasoning there, in my view at least, was to say this is
where we are going to tomorrow, what makes life the way it is and what makes it
interesting, so good.
I had a number of questions that came to me when I first became Grand Master. Within
the first couple of three weeks I had the question “How’s it going”? It’s three weeks in,
what do I know, I’ve got fifty three weeks to be here guys. So, my answer was “I just
jumped off the 53rd floor and I’m just passing number 49, so far so good”.
Someplace along the way though, I’ve got to say it was probably October when I started
to kind of feel comfortable where I was and what I was doing. October was kind of
different this year, there was very little rain, it was dry beautiful leaves, the sun was out
most every day, sky was blue, a few puffy clouds. That’s the way the year has been for
me, as far as I’m concerned. It’s a beautiful day, the leaves are fantastic, can’t ask for
anything better. There are a few puffy clouds, there are some issues and some minor
problems that you have, you don’t get too concerned about, and everything will be fine
with those. Every day as Grandmaster has been like that. I didn’t recognize that when I
first went in. I get the opportunity to meet so many nice people and become friends with
everyone that’s there. Eh, OK. Have I created a few enemies? I’m sure I have. They
are only enemies that they think I am, I’m not them, it’s a pleasure to be with so many
people and enjoy it so much. It has been a great journey. You don’t need to pay me a
million bucks. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It’s been a great trip for me.
However, at those area conferences, what has happened each time is that I tried to
leave everyone with a little bit of smile on their face. Now, when the election comes
back here, I’m sure, one’s going to be smiling and one is not. However, we’ll try to set it
up that way. Those of you who have been to those area conferences, I heard a
complaint last night that I didn’t tell my elephant story. So, today I’ll tell it. Those of you
who have heard it, the grand lodge officers have of course heard it a few times, I’m
sorry I kind of enjoy hearing that joke again.
(130) decided to make some books. What he does is he went out and got him a big old
bull elephant. What he found out was, one of the secrets about elephants is, you
cannot make them get all four feet off the ground at the same time. So, (122) all over
the north here everybody at $10 a shot each time. “Bet you can’t make my elephant get
all four feet off the ground at the same time”. He was making hand over fist. He’s
starting to run out of suckers. So, he goes down to Tennessee, in the hill country in the
eastern part of Appalachia. Runs into an ole boy over there and he says “I’ll bet you
$10 you can’t make my elephant shake his head like so. You can make him do this but
you cannot make my elephant shake his head like this. Well the ole hillbilly reached
