SET YOURSELF APART

You must be a Lotus, unfolding its petals when
the Sun rises in the sky, unaffected by the slush
where it is born or even the water which sunstains it.

05-10-1947 to 12-01-1999
Late Shri. K.C.Khanna

Service is the highest spiritual discipline.
Prayer and meditation, or knowledge of
Scripture and Vedanta (holy scriptures
of India), cannot help you reach the goal as
quickly as service can. Service has a double
effect, it extinguishes the ego and gives bliss.

Engineering education is undergoing a massive shift to meet the
challenges of technical profession and emerging job market. As india
is now the signatory of Washington Accord, India needs to reinvent
technical/engineering education system.

This major shift in system has created more online or e-learners and to
update this digital world our technical faculty should need to learn
the innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Hence, it is time
to redesign our pedagogy and curricula and we have to implement
teachers training program as mandatory.

KCCEMSR ,has taken this initiative as a festival . Our faculty are
motivated to use innovative teaching practices like Flipped Virtual
Classroom model, Online practice questions, Academic conferences
via teleconference and many more. We use a multidisciplinary
perspective to reskill, reprogram and retool to create new learning
techniques.

The digital savvy students makes it easier to adopt to contemprorary
engineering concepts. Cloud Implementation , Internet of
Things(IOT),Machine learnings, BOTS, Blockchains and these will open
avenues for innovations which inturn will dismantle the walls of
curriculum and emerging technologies.

As you go flick through the pages of Infinite 2020 you will witness how
staff and students together have successfully mounted a year of
fulfillment and satisfaction.

Happy Reading to all….

JOURNEY
OF
LIFE

(Dr. N.S. POONAWALA) Dean (R&D)

The Journey of life for everyone is different and depends on time, place, circumstances
& surroundings. I will divide my journey in 7 steps, 6 of 10 years & 7th of 15 years.

They say, I was born at Godhra (Gujarat) on 3rd June 1945. I remember, we were
children of 30 refugee families, staying in a wadi, near Daulat Cinema in Mumbai.
We were students at a Gujarati medium Madrsa school, about 3 kms. Away, We had
regular language, Maths Sciences, History, Geography etc, plus Religious Namaaz
at Mosque attached, This was upto 6 std. my neighbor Mr. Tayeb was an innovator
& made big name/ money inToys.

We had to shift to Godhra for a year, before my father could arrange a rented house
in Bhendi Bazaar. I studied 8 to 11 (metric) in Gujarati medium Saifi High School at
Pydhonie (Mumbai SoBo) & studied 2 years science at K.C College of Arts & Science
Churchgate, before entering Engineering studies at C.O.E. Pune in 1964.

At COEP, I was admitted in Electrical Engineering. However I moved to Metallurgical
Engineering after a month & graduated in 1967, started working as an apprentice
in Garlick Engineering, (C.I foundry) at Rs.150/- p.m stipend. Garlick was closing
took training in Godrej & Boyce (tool Room) under Mr. Morawala , a Parsi Manager
Learnt a lot under him. No job for Metallurgical Engineer there. Moved to other C.I /
Malleable C.I and then K.T. Steel Foundry, Both at Ambernath.

I was on a Research Project at Mukand Iron & Steel co.Ltd.at Kurla. The
indigenization of a Russian Fluid Sand Process, earned me my M.E (Foundry
Research) from Pune University in 1977, The working in various ferrous foundries
was not only tough, but tiresome, I had seen some worst accidents on the shop
floor. However, I had handled Production, Marketing, R&D, Personnel during my
Industrial work .In 1977, I joined as a Lecturer, in the department of Mechanical
Engineering at VJTI .We had moved to our own house at Vileparle (E) in 1970. I
taught Metallurgy / Material science to Mechanical & Production Engg. Students,
had attempted to do my PhD work at UDCT & then IIT Bombay, but in vain.

I became Asst. Professor in the Dept. of Production & Industrial Engineering in 1987
Went for PhD Work at IIT, Kharagpur during 1988-1991. The project was sponsored
by TISCO; Jamshedpur (Tata Iron & Steel Company) The exposure at IIT was world-
class, and prepared me for my Consulting / Training assignments later. During my
working at VJTI, I was an active committee member in ISME along with some senior
Professor from IIT, Bombay and Dr. P.Poddar (Godrej) & Mr. V. Upadhyaya
(Hamilton Cycles). It helped me to grow personally & professionally. My son Adil
was born in July 1988 & daughter Alisha in June 1990.

In Production Engg. I learnt new subjects like Machining , Non- Traditional
Manufacturing, Productivity, Quality , HR, Marketing, Costing, Value Engineering

during my work at VJTI, Dr. Y. V Kamat (my senior ) & myself had started Training &
Consulting work . We were associated with BPC / NPC/ ISME/ RBNQA and others. I
become H .O.D in May 2003, & conducted many in –house training. Programs for
the industries, Got IRCA-UK certified ISO: 9000. Auditor ship. Retired from VJTI in
June 2005.

My second inning of career in Administrative position as Principal. & Director at
K.C. College of Engineering at Thane started in July 2005. My job was to motivate,
retain and upgrade the qualification (M.E & PhD) as well as, improve the teaching
capabilities of my young teachers. Over the period, we tried to improve teaching-
learning process by involving the students. In 2010, a new B.E (Electronics) & MMS
were added. I taught “Operation Management” to MMS students, With a break of
3 years; I was back at KCCEMSR in 2012, as a Principal and become Dean (R&D) &

Hello Readers, I am Sahil Pulikal from TE IT, the Editor-in-chief
for INFINITE 2020. With enjoyment and pleasure, we put
forward the next dynamic piece of creativity, freedom, self-
expression, enthusiasm of our year's work in our Annual
magazine INFINITE, which is an amalgamation of the year-
long work of talented souls along with, the blend of unique
taste from each one who has contributed for this magazine.

INFINITE is more than just a magazine where the potentials, SAHIL PULIKAL
talents, achievements and visions of our college get reflected.
This is that proud moment where our teachers and students Editor-in-chief
take pride in their hard work and cherish their fruits of labour
and sincerity of the year that is gone by. It indeed results in
INFINITE positive energy within us and we hope this
association continues for a lifetime.

It is often seen that one of the biggest blocks to creativity can be our mind's inability to
allow a thought or insight to have the space to become a possibility. Some of the most
inspired ideas are ones that start off as crazy concepts. By allowing them to be a
possibility, they may blossom into something really usable. Often our mind may
immediately shoot down a seemingly crazy idea by judging and analyzing it too soon.
The creativity formula can help each of us to refrain from judging our ideas or oneself
and thus blocking or stifling creativity and bringing INFINITE opportunities to us. This is
the purpose and our positive drive behind this magazine.

I would like to thank all my editorial team members for helping me pull this through. I
express my considerable appreciation to all the contributors and authors of the articles
in this magazine as their contribution is the reason that makes this magazine endearing
with our readers. These contributions have required a generous amount of time and
effort. It is this willingness to share knowledge, concerns, and special insights with fellow
beings that have made this magazine possible.

I am thankful to our respected Principal for entrusting us with the responsibility of
editing. I take this opportunity to thank all the dignitaries for sparing their valuable time
to send their best wishes for the magazine in the form of 'Messages'. Special thanks to
Prof. Sheena Unmesh for giving me the opportunity to be the Editor in chief of our
college magazine and to work with this amazing team.

Thank you all !!!
I hope you will enjoy reading this magazine.
Happy Reading!

HERBAL GULAL PREPARATION
Mind Detox –
Counseling Session Holi is a festival of colours and celebration of this with
natural colourants and dyes was an age-old tradition. It
was forgotten after the discovery of synthetic colourants
and dyes in the middle of 19 th century. Now-a-days, an
age-old art of dyeing with natural colourantsis gaining
momentum because of carcinogenic effects of synthetic
dyes. These synthetic dyes and colourants are being used
in textile and food industry. Government of Germany was
the first to take initiative to put up a ban on these harmful
carcinogenic synthetic dyes.

A large amount of dry Holigulal used in the market are
carcinogenic in nature. Several synthetic dyes like
AURAMINE (YELLOW COLOUR), MALACHITE GREEN
(GREEN COLOUR), RODAMINE B (RED COLOUR), METHYL
VIOLET (VIOLET COLOUR) have been used for the
preparation of dry Holi gulal.

To educate and revive the old ways, herbal gulal was
prepared in the chemistry lab of Humanities and Applied
Sciences department. First-year students had prepared
yellow gulal from flowers of Buteamonosperma (dye-
Butin common name of flower is tesu flower),redgulal
from beet root (pigment-betalain), green gulal from
spinach leaves (chlorophyll). Students extracted the
organic colourants by cold extraction methods. These
natural colourants are mixed with natural ingredients to
make safe and eco-friendly vibrant herbal gulals.

The department of Masters of Management Studies (M.M.S) has seen a fruitful year
this year. The students of M.M.S Department organized “RASTVOR”, a 3 – Day inter-
college event, which invited students all across Thane, to participate in Management
Games, a Job Fair, and inter – departmental friendly games. After the success of
Rastvor, the batch of 2018 – 2020, bid a tearful adieu to their seniors, organizing their
farewell party – “IGNIS”, thus bringing the academic year to an emotional, yet, positive
end.

The department started off the new academic year, with the return of the 2018-2020
batch students from their successful 2 month internship period. Now entering their
second year, the students demonstrated their event management skills in the planning
and successful execution of the Induction Program, INITIUM 2019, for the newly joined
2019 – 2021 batch. During this year, the students of M.M.S developed a strong familial
bond and an improved sense of teamwork through several Soft Skills and team
development sessions held within the department.

The department has now been graced with two more Management Doctorate holders
– Dr. Shrikesh Poojari and Dr. Priya Sengupta, of the Finance and Marketing
specializations respectively. Both have had a major role to play in the development of
the M.M.S students, in terms of industry – based practical approach to the theoretical
syllabus taught in class, as well as dedicating their decade worth of teaching
experience to the advancement of the students learning process.

The students had the opportunity to attend the Human Resource Summit organized by
St. Francis Institute of Management and Research, in collaboration with National
Institute of Personnel Management, and witness first-hand how the HR views the
evolution in personnel management in Industry 4.0.

As an initiative to promote the feeling of gratitude of the students towards the faculty,
the M.M.S students, hand-crafted motivational gratitude cards, and handed them to
the Principal, Vice Principal and the Heads of each department.

The students had their industrial visit to 93.4 Radio City Office in Amritsar, during which
they learned about the contingencies available in case of an emergency, allocation of
the RJs as per the number of listeners, process of the sound management during live
sessions, and also had the opportunity to go live on air.

The department held their annual festive week – The Final Bash, which included Secret
Santa, as well as inter batch events that would eventually decide “The Best Batch of the

An Article of start-up

An entrepreneur who seeks for development, freedom and leadership
qualities often chooses the concept of start-up. Basically a start-up is a
young company founded by one or two entrepreneurs generally to
develop a unique product or service and offer it into the market. In early
stages, start-ups have very little or no revenue coming in it. The main
hurdle in any start-up is the money which is required in the processing
of the start-up. On the other hand, established companies have high
administrative overheads, but start-ups offer their service in more
efficient, cost-effective and competitive manner in order to sustain and
survive in market. Employees of large companies often get attracted by
prestige and big salaries. Start-up employees form a community which
possess passion, beliefs and values to grow with each other.

E-commerce companies like Flipkart, Hike Messenger, In-Mobi, Mu
Sigma, Ola, Paytm, ShopClues, Snapdeal, ReNew Power, and Zomato
are also good examples of successful start-ups. These start-ups tend to
hire fresh graduates (as per the report of TOI, 2017) than the
established big brand companies. Hence, start-ups are also helping in
building the economy.

Freshers/graduates with good skills in analytics, economics,
mathematics, and accounts can start by offering services to various
businesses around the world. Big companies have several employees to
manage their work; but for smaller firms, it becomes necessary to
appoint someone outside the firm, as they cannot hire someone
permanent due to lack of funds. The fresh graduates with impressive
skills can start by offering these companies services like determining the
future of the product, how will it cost, possible competition, etc.

According to Debjani Ghosh (NASSCOM president), India is becoming a
start-up hub. Opportunity for growth of a start-up is enormous. A total
of 7,200 start-ups are there in India, out of which 1,200 start-ups
came up in 2018 including eight unicorns, NASSCOM reported.

Delhi An honest opinion

Violence is violence. Wrong is wrong. I am an Indian first. I want peace because
that is what I have been fed all my life.

In 'Dil walo ki Dilli', heartless people are killing other people. Delhi is burning.
More than 38 lives have been lost so far, and around 200 people have been
injured.

It is important to know that anti-CAA and pro-CAA protests have been
happening since a long time now. I believe that both were peaceful. I do not see
this violence emerging from the peaceful protests, but rather from the hate
speech that people have made. These people are associated with political
parties. This is a well-planned riot. As history is witness, the one instigating
violence will sit back at home comfortably, while people like us will lose lives.

Kindly know that people from both sides are losing their lives. People from
both the sides are coming and helping their neighbours against violence. People
from both the sides are accusing police for not doing anything. Politicians from
both the parties are successful in their drama.

I believe social media is acting as barrier instead of bridging gap I was shocked
when on Sunday I saw #Islamic terrorism, saffron terrorism was trending
people were appreciating killers from both sides sitting in their home. I think
media is actually instigating this matter.

As, a notable Hindi Journalist, a Ramon Magsaysay awardee once said “Riot
never happen by their own they are always planned”. Its true up to a limit I
can say that our country never saw Communal Riot rather it has always seen
“Political Riots”.

Why is the silence of those in power not discomforting us? Can we get over
religion and political parties? Can we come out and support the idea of India
rather than comparing it with the conditions in Pakistan? Sometimes
Resistance is not choice but only option people left with. Let's get united and
fight this hate monger. Remember We are democratic and true essence of
democracy lies in protecting rights of minority.

Today I remember quote by one such victim who escaped from Hitler's
tyranny “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the
victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented”

I am firm believer of soul of India and it will soon find its way to solve such
problem.

HERITAGE & INDUSTRIES 4.0

Dr. N. S. Poonawala
Dean (R&D) / Director (IIPP)
KCCEMSR, Thane.

“The possessions or traditions that have been passed from one generation to
another”- Definition of Heritage.

As we understand from history of the world, human being came into existence
when Adam and Eve after eating the forbidden apple reproduced. Man is the
most intelligent creation of GOD. Keen observations & thinking are the two
most important faculties of human being. Millions of people have seen apple
falling; but Newton asked 'Why is it falling down & not going up? Thus the law
of gravity was formulated. Roti, Kapada, Makaan (Food, Clothing, Shelter) are
the essential requirements of mankind. Today S/he has added many comforts
and modern travelling.

The first industrial revolution came in 1750 in England with the advent of a
steam engine & its uses in transport & other machineries to reduce the fatigue
of human & animals. Western world entered into industrial arena & started
production of textiles, tools medicines etc alongwith education and
management of production and distribution. In 1776 Adam Smith wrote 'The
Wealth of Nation' explaining the Economics of Production.

The second industrial revolution (1890-1980) was due to the invention of
electricity. Instead of steam, electricity became the prime movers of machine.
Electric driven machine were more flexible. Conveyor belt system came in
handy for mass production. (A Polish Automated Foundry in Ambernath,
where I worked in 1970). Mass marketing and distribution came in play with
factory system. Automobiles (Car) became the symbol of 2nd revolution.

The third industrial revolution started in 1980 with TV, Computer, IT,
Electronics & Telecommunication (I saw black & white TV first time during
my college days in 1966). Today bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Intel, Steve Jobs, Jek
Ma, Amazon are the Kings of these technologies. Now it is digital revolution
wireless communication etc. taking place. From a huge computer in 1946 at
Pennsylvania University, now we have Desk Top / Laptop, and in 1980,
Internet, which was used for military purposes, was available for common
men. IoT is the in thing today.

The fourth revolution known as Industry 4.0 is taking place now. Today we
talk of Mobile (wireless) communication, Automation, Robotics, AI (Artificial
Intelligence), Biotechnology etc. Fourth revolution started in 2000.With
developments in technologies, many new opportunities of business have
cropped up. However, there are new challenges to human society, where we
are discussing Sustainable Development.

There are '5-Cs'of Industrial Revolution.

1) Centralization – Economics, Political, Production.
2) Concentration – Congestion – Bigger crowded cities.
3) Control – Hiring of farmers / technicians as workers.
4) Commodification – Human being treated as commodity.

Money is everything, No love, emotions.
5) Colonization – of Human & other resources of Asia / Africa.

20% of people of the world consumers 80% of resources.
80% of people of the world are left with 20% resources.

I read in newspapers of 3rd Nov. 2019, that Mr. Boris Rubinski, A professor of
Mechanical Engineering at California University, USA has developed 'Cell Chip'
(Bionic Chip) which can make men Immortal ( like Ashwatthama&
Hanuman) evergreen & ever healthy. (World billionaires like Allen Musk of
Telsa, Peter Thil of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, SurgyBrin / Larry Ped of
Google & few Biotech cos. are taking interest & invest.)

NEGATIVITY-A BOON?

What? A boon?

How can something that takes away all my peace and happiness can be a
boon?

Well..
It's just a game of perspectives !!

Well, if you look at the negative things through my point of view, you might be
able to eradicate a lot of unnecessary problems from your life and focus on
what really matters...
You know a bow and arrow?

Obviously, you do.. so before hitting the target, we have to pull the arrow back
with a technique only a few can master.. and then Swoosh!! We're here with
our goal achieved when arrow hits the desired target...same is with the
slingshot from the angry bird game.. so many pullbacks required to destroy a
bunch of useless evil pigs and their homes...

Now these examples might've been known to you through some motivational
videos and stuff, but when you break it down, you see your life in there..

You, the arrow, being pulled back in life, into some negative situations you
think you can't get out of.. but remember, sometimes a bad time and
realisation of what's important is necessary so that we can launch into the
good times with utter humility and kindness, with such goals that might make
us a better human being ..But the arrow gets used once and is thrown away,
and in the angry birds game, the bird gets killed too...don't be like that..!! don't
Sacrifice yourself in the process of killing the negative houses inside your mind..
instead, Sacrifice the bad attributes within yourself!! Overthinking, laziness,
making excuses, all this should be stopped.. these are just the horsemen of
negativity, because of whom negativity looks like a sin to us..

We know the fact that after the darkest night, we always have the brightest
mornings..

And the importance of these brightest mornings is achieved when the nights
have been really dark, and we'd lost our hope totally.. so that means negativity
adds value to the positive times and celebrations?
Yes.. it has a big role in that..

We have seen negativity as a sin because it brought bad times into our lives..not
bad times, experiences.. and if you take bad times as your lessons and
experiences, do you think negativity will remain a sin anymore??

Negativity is just like that kid who has failed to achieve constantly and thus it
is being ignored completely and we think it can do only bad and useless
things..but in reality, it might have some talents we don't even wish to
see..And when we see the grace in someone's failings, we actually help that
person move ahead in life...
And when things really get bad, just close your eyes and tell your mind, This is
the pullback we needed to launch into the best times of my life!! Surely,
negativity is a boon for me....

You can’t walk life alone

All this life thing feels completely vain,
When you can’t know of someone’s pain;
There’s surely a point when a person breaks,
And needs someone caring who’ll embrace.

Human life is about being there for each other,
And not being on your own to look stronger;
People have got their own stories to tell,
Not being listened to makes them repel.

Doesn’t matter if someone wasn’t good to you,
Think of not having a life back once you lose;
Your thoughts aren’t something made to smother,
There’s always opening up once you try to venture.

Be mentally all ears to talks in need,
Who knows if you’re someone’s everything;
Being can’t walk life alone without any mend.

#MENTOO

After completing all the stuff last night at the office, "He" came home totally
exhausted, but as soon as he entered the house, his face carried a smile. That
smile was a curtain to all of his problems, sorrows he held inside himself
throughout the day. He showed love to his family, kissed his child, had dinner
and they all fell asleep.

The next morning, as per the routine he left his house, expecting a good day he
got into a bus to reach his office. Everything was going good but suddenly a
small child playing with his friends appeared on the road just right in front of
the bus and the driver stopped the bus by pulling urgent brake. Due to the
urgent brake, he accidentally got stumbled upon a lady. He was about to say
sorry but before understanding anything the lady slapped him on his face then
and there. This was so quick that he was not even able to accept what has
happened already.

Instead of asking him about the situation, the neighbouring passengers started
yelling at him for misbehaving with the lady. He puts his head down and says,

"I am Sorry ". This is the sad truth of being a man. It's not easy to be a man.
Society has a pre-defined standard for judging a man. A gentleman is that
sponge which can soak up every misery but will not cry, a gentleman can be
disrespected by a woman in front of the society but he cannot say anything
against a woman even if she is wrong, A gentleman is supposed to be mentally,
physically and emotionally strong like a rock but the actual truth is a total
opposite of what society sees in a man.

A gentleman cried at the time he was born, a gentleman seeks respect and
gives respect to everyone. A gentleman is someone who feels the pain when
someone is in pain , a gentleman is someone who helps others relentlessly. A
gentleman need not hide his emotions. Like women, men too have emotions
,they love to be respected , they love when someone take care of them, they
LOVE TO BE LOVED .

You still picture yourselves together

I've never felt this cold before,
It's hard to let yo of someone you adore;
What should I do now with all that's left,
Seeing things fade away longing to rest.

There's gotta he something to hold on,
And no consequences to think of;

I know meeting someone has its reason,
Couldn't agree on it being a mere illusion.

If I could only pull hack strings attached to you,
And take away all my favourites spent with you;

You wouldn't have made me this weak,
With all the air it's so hard to breathe.

You know it's true when it's hard to defy,
No matter how rough things come by;
You still picture yourselves together,

Hoping you're someone they still remember.

They hold the never ending depths of the woods.
The roots that will hold your hearts.

The vines that will intertvine your souls
The barks that will make u feel the strongest.
The branches that would widen every second of your life.
The cool breezes their smirks , the thunder their laughter.
Their sobs are the whispers of the woods, their rage wildfires.

They are wandering souls.
They are the unsettled kind.
These women hold the darkest secrets.
They hold the brightest of the dawns .
They are addictive in their insanity.
They are preachers of the serenity.

They are wild women
Wild wild women.

We All are struggling
To get something more …

To open up wide,
The closed door.
When achieved or done with this something more,
Our struggle to get is an endless story,
As we cannot be contented with our success and glory …
Stop the struggle for money and fame
Try playing the ‘peace of mind' game

(Course and

(Raw
