Welcome

Welcome!
In July, Galilee is exploring powerful evidence from The Book of Psalms that God doesn’t
mean for us to be down in the dumps. He means for us to climb out of the depths toward
Him.
The Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134) were sung on pilgrimage to the high ground of
Jerusalem. The faithful would journey from all directions toward the city of God which,
being on a hill, meant that it was a climb for everyone.
Our worship series is called “Lift: Psalms of Ascent - A Traveler’s Companion.” That’s right,
“companion”...we’re in this together. When you worship at Galilee, you journey with others
as we make our way over obstacles, toward inspiring peaks, ever onward.
You can get a sense of the path ahead by reading a worthwhile guide book, “A Long
Obedience in the Same Direction,” by Eugene Peterson.
Won’t you climb with us?
Pastor Jason

Small Groups

Sundays: Friends in Faith

10:15am · Adult Flex - Thru July 14
Led by Bill Johnson

The Friends in Faith Class is beginning with a new study of the Acts of
the Apostles. This course will be based upon a video presentation of
the complete text but with actors and narrators speaking the dialog
as St. Luke wrote it. We will cover a chapter or two at a time with an
opportunity to discuss the significance of the book.

Sundays: Today’s Group Today’s
Groups
10:15am · Room 200
Can’t commit to a long-term Sunday School or Bible Study?
Today’s Group is a small group that meets on Sunday mornings in
Room 200. It is a drop-in group designed to discuss the sermon of
the day. If you have already heard the sermon, the discussion will
take you more in depth. If you haven’t heard it yet, you will have
the opportunity to get a preview and an understanding of what the
sermon is about.

Sundays: NOOMA

10:15am · Room 202
Led by Chris Richter

NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus.
Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now,
and anybody can be a part of it. He encouraged his listeners to search, to question,
to wrestle with the implications of what he was saying and doing. Wherever he
went, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is
always inviting us to open our eyes and join in.
No prep needed - each is a stand alone class.

Do you find it hard to believe that the One who made everything
keeps your name on His heart and on His lips? Did you realize that
your name is written on the hand of God (Is. 49:16)? Perhaps you’ve never seen your
name honored. And you can’t remember when you heard it spoken with kindness. In
this book, Lucado offers the inspiration to believe that God has already bought the
ticket-with your name on it.
Come join other Galilee members as we read and discuss this book on Thursday
mornings.

At Galilee Church, we offer regular, intentional opportunities for people to grow in faith.
We strive to prepare people of all ages for a deeper relationship with God. Our greatest
tool for growth is the small group, where people come together to study the word and
build understanding, faith, and strong relationships. Our small groups are open to
everyone at any time. Feel free to drop in when you are able to see if a group is the right
fit for you.

STEPHEN MINISTRY WELCOM

VICTORIA BRATHWAITE - I decided to become a
Stephen Minister because when I was a Care
Receiver, my Stephen Minister (Care Giver)
helped me so much. I wanted to be able give
back to someone, who needs support, and the
loving care I received.

SUZETTE LEFTWICH - As a Stephen Minister, I
get to use my spiritual gifts to walk alongside
others in need of Christian caregiving, hopefully
and prayerfully helping them return to wholeness.

CHERYL MONROE-MEDONICH - I have always
considered myself a servant of God and earnestly
help people through their difficult situations.
After speaking with Pastor Jason as to how I could
best serve the Galilee family, it was apparent I
should become a Stephen Minister and assist
anyone who needs Christ centered support.

ES NEW STEPHEN MINISTERS

TESSA SELVEY - The reason I wanted to become
a Stephen Minister is that I recognize not
everyone has someone they can talk to during a
low period of their life, being a Stephen Minister
gives me the training, support, and opportunity
to walk along with those in a low period of their
life.

RISA SILVER- I was fortunate to have a Stephen
Minister when I was going through a difficult
time in my life. Because she helped me so
much, I wanted to give back to someone who
needs the support and loving care that was
given to me.

ALTAR GUILD

Did you know that Galilee has an army? It is a silent army and a busy one. It’s a
volunteer army that we call the Altar Guild. They make our sanctuary a great place
to worship God.
The Altar Guild raises wall banners and paraments on the altar to fit the season and
the scripture. They prepare communion and do the clean up afterwards. They water
plants and keep the pews tidy and stocked with tissues, envelopes, giving cards,
pencils, and the all-important Scribble Sheets for Little Methodists.
The Altar Guild also uses natural beauty to glorify God by arranging for flowers on
Sunday mornings. If you would like to give flowers for a birthday, anniversary, special
memory, graduation, birth of a child, or just to honor God, the Altar Guild can do
that. The cost is $35 for a regular arrangement. Special arrangements may be more.
Sign up on the Connection Card or on the flower calendar located in the lobby on the
column closest to the office. Leave your phone number and you will be called about
the type/color of flowers you would like.
For more information about the Altar Guild, you can email: [email protected].

serve.

REV. JASON DULEY - SENIOR PASTOR
Let me tell you what I believe. I believe the best life is one
that’s got meaning. I believe that God has given every person
an extraordinary purpose.
As a pastor of an active church, I get energy out of helping
people connect with God, with one another, and with their
life’s purpose.
I invite you to connect with Galilee and to connect with me. Hit me on social media
(facebook.com/jason.duley.944) or simply pick up the phone and call.

REV. GEITRA MICKELSON - ASSOCIATE PASTOR
Geitra Mickelson, Galilee’s newest addition to our clergy staff, is an
Ohio native who comes to our church with a background in music,
education, and theater. Active in church throughout her life, Geitra
responded to the call to ministry here in Virginia, where she has
lived since 2001.
“I responded to a call when God’s love convicted my heart. I’m
eager to share that love with a hurt and broken world. Jesus has
made all the difference in my life, and I believe he can make a
difference in yours—no matter what!”
“My goal is to work alongside others who are passionately committed to helping those in
need.”
Geitra serves in Galilee’s ministries and at the Chapel at Lansdowne Woods, and is
pursuing the completion of her Masters of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary.
