Kylie
August 22, 1994… That was the day I was born, and that
was the day that I was named. For nine months my parents
went back and forth with names. It had been nearly eleven
years since my parents had my sister. My mom felt sick and
went to the doctor, thinking she had the flu. Much to her
surprise, it was not the flu, it was me. My mom worked for
an attorney, and told her that she wanted a unique name for
her daughter. The lady had a son named Kyle, and said
“what about Kylie?” My mom loved it immediately and
was set to name me Kylie. The next dilemma was finding a
middle name. My dad expressed that since my mom picked
my first name, he felt that it was only fair for him to choose
the middle name. The debate continued for months, even all
the way home from the hospital. My dad won the battle.
Here I am, Kylie Nicole…
Small moment
On a beautiful, breezy Saturday on August 15, 2015 my boyfriend proposed to me. My
family and his were all together at the lake on his dad’s boat. Our families have always
been good friends, so this day was just another fun summer day. Well, it turns out that
this was not just an ordinary summer day. Right in the middle of the lake, he dropped
down on one knee. My heart fell to me feet, but not just because the person I’ve spent
the last five years of my life with had asked me to marry him. As I looked down in
shock at the shiny ring, I watched it in slow motion fall out of the ring box and nearly
roll right into the lake. Before my eyes Ryan stopped the ring from entering the lake,
and saved the day! His sister in law was filming on her phone, and the entire time I
thought we were just taking a picture. Ryan pretends to drop a can of dip, but it was
actually the ring box. His plan was working out perfectly until he decided that it was
time to open the box. The engagement ring was his grandma’s ring that his grandpa
gave to her on Christmas day in 1960. She wore a size 6 and I wear a size 4. The ring
was downsized and did not fit for the box anymore. As the “picture” was being taken,
everyone was screaming and hollering. My nerves were on edge because I did not
understand what was going on. Our families are pretty crazy and fun, so I figured it
was the alcohol in them letting loose. To my surprise, I looked down to Ryan slapping
at a ring. My stomach dropped and all of the emotions took over. After five years my
best friend was asking me to marry him, and in a matter of seconds we almost lost a
family heirloom. Thankfully, the lake did not eat my engagement ring, and it fits
perfectly on my skinny little finger. June 16, 2017 I will be getting married and I
cannot wait to share this story with everyone. Still to this day I think about that day
on the lake and giggle. Some people get engaged at a MLB game, some while
skydiving… I was with everyone I love dearly doing something we love doing all
together. I will never forget this special day!!

Beau the dog
As I arrived to college for my freshmen year, it did not take long
to miss my home and my family. I went out on one sunny
September day, and for no reason at all ended up at Petco. Of
all days, they were doing pet adoptions, and I just knew I
needed a fur baby in my life. What my boyfriend did not know
is that I had been looking for dogs online for adoption. I lived in
a dorm, and he lived in an apartment. Since a dog could not live
with me, I had a lot of convincing to do. I started off by saying,
“oh look!! There are dogs for adoption!!” After he gave me a
look of “no”, he asked, “What are we doing here anyways?” I
said, the magic words, “let’s just look.” After trying to convince
him of a squealing weenie dog, and getting a definite no… I sat
down sadly looking at all of the dogs that I would be leaving
behind. Out of nowhere, a shaggy green eyed dog came right
up to me, looked me in my eyes, and sat right down in my lap.
My heart melted and I was not leaving without him! After much
convincing, we adopted Beau on that sunny September day! I
went to Petco that day to
pick the perfect dog to
get me through college,
and it turns out the
perfect one picked me.
50 Word Story
My tummy is growling. I haven’t eaten
all day. There is food around the house,
but I want fast food. My body wants a
cheeseburger. My wallet says “stay
home.” I am doing this to show that I
have discipline; I know that I can
save. Whatever, Whataburger it is!
