Kathy Nguyen
Sophomore, Chemistry pre-med major from Amite, Louisiana
My plans are to attend dental school and become a dentist.
I selected my major as a Chemistry pre- med student because I enjoy the aspects of chemistry, but at the same time I am able to includebiologyinmystudies, too.Thismajorcan also help me further my career.
I selected Xavier because of its program for sciences and also because I wanted to go to a university that was far enough to give me my independence but also close enough for me to visit my family every weekend. I also enjoy the fact that Xavier is like a small community because it makes the school feel more like home.
I have lived both on and off campus before and there are definitely advantages and disadvantages.Asacommuter, youhavetowake up earlier than usual and sometimes you have the chance of getting stuck in traffic. You are alsolimitedtoafterschoolactivities. However, being at home feels comforting and you have your own freedom and privacy.
In my free time, I enjoy writing poetry, roller skating/ ice skating, and swimming.

This information helped me to confirm my decision to travel to Costa Rica. I was anxious as I made my journey from the U.S.to Latin America.I didn’t know if I had made the right decision. All I knew was that I wanted to learn Spanish and that there was no better way to study it than being completely immersed in a Spanishspeakingculture.Fromthemomentmyplanebeganitsdescentoverthe mountains and brightly colored roofs of San Jose, I knew I had made the right decision. I spent the next four months in paradise. I made friends with natives (“Ticos”) and other students from the U. S. Many of these friendships are still strong today. We have to listen to God to find out that purpose. We can’t do it on our own. As a young person we think we are in charge of
