Why I Chose The Career Of Cosmetology
I have always loved the field of cosmetology the beautifying of the hair, nails and skin is
something I’ve always had a major interest in. As I have continued my journey of being in
cosmetology school it brings back so many fond memories from my childhood and the love that I
have for uplifting people and making them look and feel wonderful. I have always loved to play
in someone’s hair and to style it was something I found to be fun for me. As a young child
during the holiday season and for my birthdays when gifts were given I would always ask for
certain dolls and doll heads that I knew I could use for the reason of styling their hair. Styling my
dolls and creating different looks for them was one of my favorite past times. As a teenager I was
allowed to style my own hair, friends and my family noticed and believed I had a knack for
cosmetology. I would often get asked by friends to put braids into their hair or to style the hair in
the new trend that was out at that time. Even into my late teenage years I would still ask for doll
heads and mannequins so that I could practice certain styling and hair cutting techniques that
interested me. I would even apply semi-permanent color to my mannequins to actually see the
outcome before applying that certain color to my own hair. I messed up plenty of times but never
fret because I enjoyed it and just shook it off as a learning experience. While using color I
learned how to somewhat color correct and appropriate skin tones with certain haircolors for the
best look on a particular person. On the weekends I would go to visit my grandmother and she
would allow me to shampoo, deep condition, give a lite trim and wet set her hair with rollers and
clips which I thoroughly completed and enjoyed. Always taking that small job of doing my
grandmother's hair serious, I want to always do my very best and put my best foot forward so
that people will know when looking at my work that I really love what I do. I want my hair
styling and beautifying of the skin and nails to speak for itself, when people see what I’ve
created I want them to know that I am passionate about it. Helping other people look and feel
their best by styling them is very exciting and fulfilling to me, as it is one of the reasons I am
entering into the world of cosmetology. As I enter into the world of cosmetology I plan to work
with organizations that assist people in search of employment, veterans, elderly, disabled and
disadvantaged individuals to assist them in giving them makeovers or services that they may
need that they simply might have the resources to pay for or have accessibility to. Other reasons
for me entering into the field of cosmetology is to have the freedom of becoming an
entrepreneur, the freedom of building my own schedule and not working in an office or
traditional work environment. I’m looking forward to finishing school, receiving my license,
awaking my full potential and walking in my purpose in the big world of cosmetology.
