Embankment
Equipment
All Playdale embankment play is manufactured at a variety of lengths, starting from units
made to fit a 1.3m high mound. Embankment slides utilise an existing bank or mound.
We recommend that measurements of your mound or slope should be taken
before a decision is made to install any embankment equipment. The angle of the
slope must be 35° and the mound must be properly settled. Always take this into
consideration when planning for installation of an embankment slide.

• 30% of children aged between two and fifteen years are
overweight or obese (Department of Health, 2013).
• Out of 2000 children, 1 in 5 youngsters do not go outside to play (Play England, 2007).
• 7 out of 10 children feel that playing in an outside space is a real treat (Play England, 2007).
• Physical Inactivity in England is estimated to cost the government £8.2 billion
a year and this is predicted to rise (Department of Health, 2004).
• 40 – 60% of children over 6 years spend less than 1 hour a day doing
moderate intensity activities (Smithers et al 2000).
These facts highlight a specific need to reverse inactivity by
enhancing physical play through design intervention.

interesting facts about how and why i.play helps to combat childhood obesity.
• A total of 43 children were involved in the comprehensive experimental process on i.play.
• 185 metres covered per child in an average game of i.play.
• On average a child’s heart rate can reach 80% of their theoretical maximum during a game of i.play.

Walkers invest in 21st Century Playgrounds Health & Fitness - i.play
with Playdale ‘Parks for Life’
We were invited to an international tender by PepsiCo Ltd for Walkers to be
involved in an exciting new project ‘Parks for Life’. We were delighted to be
awarded with the contract to design and install exciting and innovative new
playgrounds for the pilot year of the Parks for Life project.
Speaking about i.play on the regional television news programme, Thames
Valley Today, Gary Lineker said “there are all too many distractions nowadays
with computer games and Playstations; it’s quite hard to get kids off the sofa so
something like this which is obviously great fun will definitely encourage them
to do that!”

Playdale’s i.play continued its quest for world domination as Germany installed its first Intelligent Play
System.
Playdale were delighted to be involved in the €600,000 project and installed the first mains powered
i.play as part of an exciting development at St. Matthaus Ein Zuhause fur kinder in Bremen.
The i.play was originally designed as a solar powered unit, although due to the location of the German
site it was decided that a mains powered i.play would be more suitable.

Our innovative i.play concept has now gone global, with its first installation in Spain.
The unit, located in Orio, San Sebastian, was the first to be installed outside of the UK and Ireland and is
currently attracting attention from intrigued residents throughout the local community.

i.play software is pre-programmed to turn on and off at standardised times,
however these times can be adjusted to your specifications.
Is the unit vandal proof?
The unit is made from extremely tough and durable materials that we believe
are resistant to vandalism. See page 123 for more information.
