PLAYNOMICS SESSION

An Academic Workshop, in the form of an interactive game, ‘Playnomics’, was
conducted by the personnel from ISBF (Indian School of Business and Finance) for
the Economics students and Commerce Stream of Grade XII.

The purpose was to involve students
to actively participate and get
engaged in the learning process that
is both enjoyable and relatable to the
real world scenario. The workshop
model was based on an Academic
game 'Win-Win'. This module
entailed concepts like market
dynamics, demand and supply. The
experiential mode of learning these
concepts was received well by the
students who were enthusiastically
involved in the session.

Inter-School Basketball

Championship for Girls and Boys' on

1st and 2nd February, 2019

respectively.

The championship witnessed an
overwhelming participation of 12
schools from Delhi-NCR comprising
teams of boys and girls making a
total of 22 teams.

The finals between the Lotus Valley
Girls team and DPS Girls team gave
a nail biting experience! Lotus
Valley Girls team bagged the
Runners-Up trophy led by
Presidium School.

The entire event projected a lot of
energy as the zestful participants
experienced and learnt the values
of mutual respect, resilience,
teamwork and sportsman-spirit.

Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram
conducted its sports day, LOTUS LEGION’19, on
Wednesday, 30th January, 2019 for Grades IV and
V. A day filled with energy, enthusiasm, gaiety
and pomp as learners absorbed themselves in
the essence of competition and true sportsman
spirit. The mood set in with a tuneful choir and
encouragement galore from the Principal, Ms.
Anita Malhotra. The release of balloons
indicated the opening of the event that was high
on recreation with the many fun-filled races for
both boys and girls, like Happy Feet, Wobble
Race, Lemon & Spoon Race, Cup & Saucer Race
and Roll the Ball Race. The day proved to be a
platform for the little athletes to put their best
foot forward as they sprinted in the 50m,
200m,400m and 400m relay races.

The day concluded with an Intra-School Cricket
Tournament showcasing laudable performance
by the aspiring cricketers.
Winners were awarded medals by the Principal
and Headmistress. Some learners did win
medals but all won our hearts by showcasing
zeal, sportsmanship and team work in the
competitive environment amidst the cheering of
peers and enthusiastic parents.

Lotus Legion’19, Day-2 opened at 9:30 am on 31st January, 2019 with an encouraging address by
the Principal Mrs. Anita followed by learners releasing balloons. The spirit of the sportsmanship
was further infused with an oath administered by the Principal.

It was a delight to see the excitement with which
children challenged themselves to attempt variety
of races such as lemon and spoon, hula hoop,
unknot the knot, table tennis, drag the ball, and
“go to school”. The competitive races -50m, 50m
hurdle, 200m, 400m and 200m relay set out to
give an adrenaline rush. Last but not the least, the
aspiring footballers put their best foot forward for
the Intra-School Football Tournament with full
verve and vigour. The day concluded with the
awarding of the young achievers with Gold, Silver
and Bronze medals and the winning team of the
football match with a trophy by the Principal and
the Headmistress. All participants were
congratulated and applauded for their
commitment and involvement. It was a day filled
with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to
cherish and the students departed with a clear
smile on their faces.

Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram organized a friendly Basketball Match
between the young Basketball enthusiasts of Grade IV on Saturday,1st December.
The participants from each of the two boys and girls teams were absorbed in
engaging and competitive matches as they put forth their best skills forward
amongst the cheering from parents.

The encouragement from parents enhanced the enthusiasm of the learners as they
skilfully ran, dodged, dribbled and aimed at their baskets. The match began with a
warm opening by the School Vice-Principal, Ms. Ruchi Joshi at 9:00am.

The matches concluded with the girls' teams, 'Team Flyers' winning over 'Team Red
Wings' by 8-7 while between the boys' team, 'Team Sky-Hawks' won over 'Team
Roaring Tigers' by 2-0.

Well done to all the young players for showcasing sportsman, respect,
collaboration, and team spirit while indulging in enjoyment and fun filled moments.





VISIT TO THE NATIONAL SCIENCE MUSEUM

The world is a book and those who don’t travel read only the
first page.

To inspire our little Einsteins, an
educational visit to
the National Science Centre was organised
for the members of the Budding
Scientists Club by Lotus Valley
International School on 18th December
2018.

The students were fascinated by the
wonderful galleries and enthralling
exhibits showcasing a plethora of topics
from Water: The Elixir of Life, Nuclear
Power, Fun with Science, Human Biology,
Our Science and Technology Heritage
Gallery to Emerging Technology Gallery.
Young learners of Grades IV and V also got
an opportunity to see the much
anticipated Tara Mandal Show on various
constellations.

The visit was an enriching and energizing
experience which not only nurtured the
critical thinking skills, creativity and
scientific temperament but also motivated
the learners to move ahead in their quest
for learning.

Vidyarthi of T- Series Team Works.
Learners of Grades VIII, IX & XI with
our guest students and teachers
from Delhi-NCR schools participated
in the Workshop held on
Wednesday,12th December 2018.

Principal Mrs. Anita Malhotra firmly
believes that best practices and
knowledge must be shared with all
and this Workshop was a medium to
invite a legendary Musician to share
his expertise in the field of Music. The
School Auditorium reverberated with
Sanjay Vidyarthi’s mellifluous voice,
thus infusing enthusiasm and energy
into the audience.

The objective of the said

workshop was to teach the basic

& fundamental aspects of singing

through various techniques and

exercises. Sanjay Ji, not only

trained the learners in

strengthening ‘Sur and Taal’ but

also kept the audience captivated

with his hilarious anecdotes and

humour. Learners who

demonstrated exclusive talent will

be given a break to make a direct

entry into a Popular Show- ‘The

Voice of India’.

Trip to Purana Quila : Grade V -19th December, 2018

Lotus Valley International School,

Gurugram, in association with Flow
India’s City School Project organized an

educational day trip to Purana Quila for

the learners of Grade V on

19th December 2018. The learners got a

good opportunity to explore the vibrant,

glorious history of

the Purana Quilaculture.

The programme comprised a day’s
exploration at Purana Quila. The
students were enthralled by the
everlasting beauty of the Quila-e-Kohna
Masjid, Sher Mandal, Bada Darwaza
and the artefacts at the archaeological
museum. Through a series of fun
activities, site exploration and
investigative questions, the students
learnt more about this historic fort and
the transitions it has witnessed through
time.

This visit was one of its kind uniquely
memorable out-of-school learning
experience within the academic learning
framework which stimulated the
curiosity of the students and made them
delve into the history of Purana Quila.

Trip to Humayun's Tomb : Grade VII - 20th December, 2018

Grade VII learners of Lotus Valley
International School, Gurugram enjoyed a
day out in the beautiful winter sun by
visiting Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, on
December 20th, 2018. The trip was in
collaboration with Flow India. The
instructors from Flow India guided the
learners’ attention towards the architecture
and cultural of the era when the tomb was
made.
The program’s learning was very holistic in
nature as it allowed inter-disciplinary
learning, wherein the children composed a
poem based on their learning of the
structure and culture the Mughal era. The
day was not just all work and learn, but also
a fun day. The learners enjoyed each other
company and it encouraged the spirit of
camaraderie. Overall, it was a day filled with
holistic learning and memories to last
forever.

Trip to Crafts Museum : Grade VIII – 21st December, 2018

A day trip to Crafts Museum Delhi

was planned for the learners

Grade VIII on 21st December 2018.

The primary role

of Craft Museum Visit was to

engage and educate the learners

on “textiles and crafts” from

different states of

India. Learners got engaged in

meaningful and hands on activities

that provided an in-

depth understanding of textiles

and crafts from various parts of

the country. They explored various

Indian textiles like Ikat , Kalamkari,

silk brocade, Muslin and

embroidered textiles. They learnt

about the various kinds of textiles

that were used over the ages to

document mythological stories of

a community .

Learners also interviewed the crafts person to
learn in details about the artefacts of their state.
The most compelling and obvious reason for this
day trip to the museum was the beneficial impact
on the learning experience. It seemed to have an
extremely positive effect on young minds, in
addition to the art & culture benefits. We hope
with this experience our learners will make this
world a more enlightened place for present and
future generations.

Trip to Crafts Museum : Grade VIII – 21st December, 2018



International Day Of Persons With Different Abilities:– 3rd
December, 2018

Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram hosted a cultural event “ANTARBHAVA” in
collaboration with A.L.P.A.N.A (Association for Learning Performing Arts & Normative
Actions)to commemorate the “International Day for Persons with Different Abilities”,
3rd December’18.

Our principal Mrs. Anita Malhotra

set the ball rolling by lighting the

traditional lamp along with Guru

Alpana. The event began with the

motivational welcome song by

LVIS learners and followed by the

spectacular performances by the

disciples of A.L.P.A.N.A. It was a

mesmerizing sight to see these

children performing an Odissi

dance, fusion dance and

traditional folk dance of

Rajasthan.

Learners enacted a nukkad natak

to generate awareness about the

people with different abilities

along with a solo song

performance by Kajal Upadhyay

from Grade 11.

Learners of Grade 7, 8 and 9 were

overwhelmed with the spell-

binding performances by LVIS

learners and A.L.P.A.N.A students.

Pariksha Par Charcha – 29th January, 2019

Learners of Lotus Valley
International School were a part
of the live telecast of 'Pariksha
Par Charcha 2.0', the second
edition of Hon'ble Prime
Minister's unique interaction with
students, teachers and parents at
Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on
Tuesday, 29th January, 2019.
The session began at 11 am and
concluded at 1 pm. Students
watched and listened to the
Hon'ble Prime Minister intently
and felt encouraged by his wise
thoughts on education and
importance of examination, time
management, creating balance
between goal achievement and
health without the need of being
stressed. He also talked of ill
effects of over exposure to
gadgets. He quoted 'Technology
should lead to an expansion of
the mind and as a means to
innovate'. The session was worth
a watch as all teachers and
children were eager to tune-in to
witness the live telecast on 29th
January.

nominated Ms Shivani Joshi (School
Counselor) to visit their campus. The
University offers courses in Business
Economics and International Relations.

World Religion Day– 18th January

The World religion day, which is celebrated on the third Sunday in January each year,
was celebrated on 18th January 2019. The day was commemorated through different
activities in different grades:

• Grade IV Learners engaged themselves in an activity wherein they drew the
symbols related to the various religions across the globe to understand the beliefs
they follow.
• The learners of Grade V participated in the Poster Making Activity on Secularism
and put their thoughts on paper in their own creative way.

• Learners of Grade VI viewed a PPT on different Religions of the world and were
made to understand the underlying teachings and principles of various religions.

• In Grades VII & VIII, learners shared their favourite verses from various Holy
Books and shared with the class why a particular verse is their favourite. Learners
spoke about the teachings like love, peace and harmony. They also spoke about
various aspects of religions that they were not very supportive of like superstitions
and rituals.

World Radio Day– 13th February

Lotus Valley International School, Gurugram celebrated the World Radio Day with
one of the most vivacious and spirited radio jockeys of the country, Nitin from 92.7
BIG FM Prime Time RJ. The school welcomed RJ Nitin better known as Khurafati
Nitin with thunderous applause as he entered the auditorium.

Nitin interacted with the audience and shared some bone-tickling experiences from
his personal and professional life. He encouraged the students to dream big and
stay humble at all times. The learners were mesmerized by his wit and presence of
mind and asked him several questions such as 'How does a radio jockey manage the
responsibility of the content he shares with the audience’, and ‘What it means to be
a faceless celebrity.‘ The audience appreciated RJ Nitin’s CSR initiative that has been
running for good 8-9 years . The session concluded on a high note with the RJ
singing his favourite song – “Muqaddar ka sikandar” and Principal Ma’am
remembering her experience at AIR’s Yuv Vani with famous radio announcer Ameen
Sayani nostalgically.

World Day of Social Justice– 20th February

Every year, since 2009, World Social Day of Justice is observed on 20th February to
raise the awareness about the social injustice done throughout the world and to look
into the solutions and improvements. To remove the barriers basically that people
face about gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability etc.

Learners of Grade VIII participated in the discussion and activity on World Social
Justice Day Students identified injustice by personally relating their own accounts of
injustice, and seeing injustice through the eyes of a victim. Essential points of
discussion were : How does injustice happen? How does it make the victim feel
vulnerable?
Learners shared their own experiences when they witnessed social injustice and how
they reacted in various situations. They brainstormed on some issues of social
injustice of which they were aware. Points on labelling and bulling in schools were
also touched upon. The session was wrapped up discussion on some of the
prominent social activist who have left a mark in the society such as Kailash
Satyarthi, Kiran Bedi, Aruna Roy, Nomita Chandy etc.

Hridyansh Gautam of Grade VI Godavari has been proving himself in the field of
Robotics from a very young age. He has won numerous competition and accolades at
very national and international levels.
He has yet again made us all proud of his achievement by proving his mettle in the
field of young innovators along with his team and won the prestigious award of
CHAMPIONS TROPHY along with the BEST ROBOT PERFORMANCE Award at the
International Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO LEAGUE 2019.

INTERNATIONAL LEGO LEAGUE

put the next one down.”

Aryav Mathur of Grade V-Oaks
has been passionate about Lego
and Robotics. He kick started his
First Lego League (FLL) journey
this year with a team
participation in the National
Championship in January this
year.

FLL is an International
competition which involves
robotics using Lego EV3 and
project work to help solve real
world problems.

The team earned 5th place in
North region among the 25
participating teams and won a
chance to show case their talent
in next FLL Competition to be
held in Turkey in the month of
May, 2019.

ANANYA SUD OF GRADE IV

With pride, Lotus Valley

Ananya Sud of Grade IV Gulmohars,
who saved a 4-year-old child from
drowning in a resort pool at Taj
Exotica, Goa while Ananya was
there on a vacation with her
parents.
An enthusiastic and passionate
swimmer, she used her presence of
mind and swam towards the girl,
when only the small child’s hand
was visible in the deeper side of the

pool.
Ananya pulled out the little girl and
rescued her. She was given a trophy
and medal on 4th November 2018
by the cultural team at Taj Exotica.
