ABOUT ASEAN TOURISM STANDARDS

INTRODUCTION

The 10 ASEAN member states are Brunei Darussalam, Kingdom of Cambodia.
Republic of Indonesia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Federation of Malaysia, Union
of Myanmar, Republic of the Philippines, Republic of Singapore, Kingdom of Thailand,
and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have conset out the basic standards of tourism
products and services, to be use as a framework for tourism the quality improvement.
ASEAN member countries will be considered as the high quality tourism destinations as
well as promoting responsible tourism management for business.

ASEAN has created 7 tourism standards as follows:

1. ASEAN Green Hotel Standard
2. ASEAN Spa Services Standard
3. ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard
4. ASEAN Community Based Tourism Standard
5. ASEAN Homestay Standard
6. ASEAN Public Toilet Standard
7. ASEAN MICE Venue Standard

This directory of ASEAN Tourism Standards has compiled hotels and agencies
which has been certified for the fiscal year 2021, by presenting a total of two standards:

1. ASEAN Green Hotel Standards provide information about 38 Eco-friendly hotels,
and covering 25 provinces in Thailand. It contains basic information about each hotel,
room type, prices, and hotel facilities.

2. ASEAN clean tourism city standards which consist of information of the agency
with tourism quality in 4 cities, covering 4 provinces, namely Khon Kaen Municipality
Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality, Pattaya City, and Koh Mak Sub-district Administrative
Organization.

To recognize and honor outstanding ASEAN tourism businesses and destinations
that comply with the ASEAN Tourism Standards.

Connotation of ASEAN Tourism Standard Logo
1. Flower resembling to a lotus means

- A legendary plant, inducing luxurious enjoyment, peace and beauty.
- A recognition of award and standardization of ASEAN Tourism Services.
2. Petals enfolding ASEAN logo signify resilience of Member Countries.
3. Different shades of green colour represents the protection of environment,
fertility, growth, and increasing production in tourism industry.

ASEAN GREEN HOTEL STANDARD

The ASEAN Green Hotel Standard is an ASEAN initiative dedicated to promoting
sustainable tourism practices in ASEAN. The ASEAN Green Hotel Standard fosters
sustainable tourism through the adoption of environmentally friendly practices and
energy conservation in ASEAN Green Hotel practices. This standard deals with essential
elements of Green Hotel operations which are environmental plan, green product,
human resource, and environmental management. The ASEAN Green Hotel standard
indicators can be classified into 11 categories as follows:

1. Environmental policy and actions for hotel operation
2. Use of Green products
3. Collaboration with the community and local organizations
4. Human resource development
5. Solid waste management
6. Energy efficiency
7. Water efficiency and water quality
8. Air quality management (indoor and outdoor)
9. Noise pollution control
10. Waste water treatment and management (water quality)
11. Toxic and chemical substance disposal management
