ASEAN CLEAN TOURIST CITY STANDARD

While cities are well developed across the region, some are only emerged
as tourist destinations. This is the ideal opportunity to encourage cities to develop
themselves to impress and welcome tourists to the country on their arrival. It is
crucial for national and regional tourism development to maintain and enhance the
good image and reputation of cities — the 'face' of the country — where cultural,
natural, and man-made attractions exist. The purpose of the ASEAN Clean Tourist City
Standard (ACTCS) is to provide ASEAN member countries with a tool that will improve
the quality of tourism in their cities, increase their marketing competitiveness and
also improve the situation of local residents and their livelihood by alleviating poverty.
It is also designed to protect the environment thus responding to the impacts of
climate change and contributing to the sustainable development of ASEAN cities.
The standard focuses on tourist cities where there is a flow of visitors and where
cultural, natural, and/ or man-made attractions exist. The ASEAN Clean Tourist City
Standards can be classified into 7 as follows:

4. Awareness-building about Environmental Protection and Cleanliness
