20TH ANNIVERSARY HIKE

On the last day of 2020, the school organised the WS 20th
Anniversary Hike for the staff. Its objective is to commemorate
the school’s 20th Anniversary in a safe and healthy way. It was
unfortunate that celebrations for the milestone anniversary had
to be muted due to Covid-19, but the participants all enjoyed
themselves hiking through the Bukit Panjang-Dairy Farm estate
while keeping safe and healthy.

SECONDARY
ONE CAMP
2021

The Sec 1 Mixed Course Form Class cohort
had their Sec 1 level camp at the MOE
Changi Coast Adventure Centre where
they got to know their classmates and form
teachers better through activities such as
high element courses, trekking, station
games and many more. The objective
of this level camp is to bond the class
together early in the year. Due to safety
management measures, it was run as a
day camp for three days but the learning
and fun was still as meaningful.

MOE-OUTWARD
BOUND SCHOOL
CHALLENGE 2021

After being suspended for more than a year, the Ministry of
Education-Outward Bound School (MOE-OBS) Challenge resumed
this year. The programme, targeted at Secondary 3 students,
was redesigned as a two-day non-residential course with safe
management measures. Our students participated in the
programme in Term 2.
The programme provided students with an invaluable opportunity
to learn and reflect on values such as resilience, empathy and
teamwork. Students participated in activities such as trekking
kayaking and team-based problem solving challenges. Our
students were happy and excited to be back in the outdoors
again with OBS.

CLASS COHESION 2021

After going through the Proposal Writing and Event Organising
workshop that was held in February, the class EXCOs were tasked
to organise and execute a class cohesion programme in Term 2
with the aim of forging stronger bonds among the students and
their form teachers. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Sec 2s
and Sec 3s had theirs only in Term 3 and some Sec 3 classes had
to do it virtually. Nevertheless, the class EXCOs did well in coming
up with activities that got the students to interact through games
and by eating together as a class.

STUDENT LEADERS’ INVESTITURE 2021

The Student Leaders’ Investiture is an annual student leadership
programme where the school witnesses a new cohort of student
leaders taking charge of their peers in both the student council
and in the respective CCAs. This year, the 19th batch of student
leaders planned and recorded the investiture in accordance
with the existing safety management measures. Despite the
challenges, the investiture was a success and the school was
pleased to welcome the new batch of student leaders while
showing our appreciation to the cohort that stepped down after
a year of taking charge and leading by example.

LOCAL-BASED INTERNATIONALISATION
PROGRAMME (TAIWAN/JAPAN) 2021

Due to the pandemic, overseas trips were curtailed. To mitigate
the loss of this important educational experience, our school
conducted two local-based internationalization programmes
for selected Sec 3 students. The objective is to develop in them
a global perspective with a foundational understanding and
exposure to Asia.
In Semester 1, our 19 Higher-Chinese-Language students did a
virtual collaboration on sustainability issues with Taipei’s Chang’an
Junior High School (台北市长安国民中学). Students from both
schools were grouped together to research, present and advocate
on a specific sustainability issue. There were nine issues in three
broad areas of Water, Greenery and Food. There was also an
emphasis on bilingualism. The final presentation was done in two
languages – English and Chinese.
In Semester 2, our Sec 3 students were provided with an opportunity
to participate in an online interaction with Okayama Gakugeikan
High School, Japan. 24 students were selected to take part. There
were three sessions, each involving a presentation by students and
small group interaction. The first session coincided with the Tokyo
Olympics, and focused on Olympics and Sports. The second and
third focused on the theme of “Creative Economy for Sustainable
Development”.
