Mental Training Skills for Shooters ( In-Person & via Zoom)
This program is specially designed to train the mental strength and resilience of shooters,
in preparation towards competitions. Mental Training Skills include strengthening and
conditioning of the mind towards shooters’ goals and competitive spirit. It is helpful in
learning to be mentally stronger and learning coping techniques of calming down
during anxious and stressful times.

Intra & Inter school games and competitions
Our main focus is the National School Games. We also participate in other competitions
hosted by the Singapore Shooting Association, NUS & NTU Invitational Shoots. We also
conduct intra-shooting competitions to encourage shooters to compete with one
another to hone their shooting skills, even when it is not the competition season. This
helps to keep their form in check and motivates them to train harder to be better than
their peers.Since Shooting is an individual sport, intra-games promote teamwork and
learning of skills from one another.

Physical Training Activity
Physical Training (PT) is essential for shooters to be fitter and have the strength to persevere
through long sessions of shoots and increase competition stamina. They progress towards
becoming better sportsmen and sportswomen. For shooting, the students’ greater focus
would be their breathing techniques, arms and legs muscles and core muscles training.
Through PT, shooters are able to bond together as a team as well.

PERSONAL DIGITAL LEARNING
PROGRAMME 2021

Term 2 was an exciting time for our
Secondary 1 - 3 students. As West Spring
Secondary is one of the schools on the
pilot phase of the PDLP, our students got first
dibs on their personal learning devices. The
students were given a thorough unboxing
experience and got the chance to try
out their Chromebooks. From then on,
the teachers and students have utilised
the Chromebooks to ensure teaching
and learning in this pandemic continues
to be effective. We are grateful that the
Singapore government has ensured that
learning can continue to take place despite
the challenges posed by the pandemic.

emphasized important life skills and our students enjoyed learning
through outdoor education.

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS 2021

Teachers’ Day has always been a day where students show
their appreciation to their teachers. This year, Teachers’ Day was
celebrated virtually with the Student Councillors working closely
with students from various classes who sang, danced and played
musical instruments. Performances were recorded and showcased
to the whole school as part of the celebration. Student councillors
also coordinated with the Class Committee in writing notes of
appreciation for teachers and to surprise their form teachers
with a party that was filled with food, games and gifts. While the
teachers enjoyed the celebration, the Student Councillors had the
opportunity to stretch their leadership potential through planning
for this celebration.

SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO RETIRING VICE
PRINCIPAL, MR LIM HAN SENG ANDREW

Impart Knowledge, Impact Lives
When I decided to change my career from engineer to educator in 1998. I drafted my
Personal Mission Statement for my second career - Impart Knowledge, Impact Lives. This
phrase was my compass in guiding me in everything I did as a teacher and a school
leader. I printed the PMS in my email signature block to constantly remind myself of
my mission.

Throughout my 14 years at West Spring Secondary School, I tried to motivate students to
learn with joy and to inspire teachers to teach with competence. My relatively long stint
at West Spring allowed me to implement and tweak ideas that took time to evolve to
bear desired outcomes. Over the years, I have worked with three Principals with different
leadership strengths and I am grateful for their support in allowing me to execute new
ideas to make an impact on the lives of the students and staff.

I have also forged many friendships with colleagues and formed many fond memories
during my time at the school. I enjoyed the conversations with students and still keep
in touch with a few of them after they graduated. Hearing their stories helped me to
be a better educator.

I am retiring at the end of 2021 and it is time for me to rethink my Personal Mission
Statement for my next phase of life. “Live Healthily Simply” will be my PMS after retirement.
