IN MEMORIAM

Dr. Chi Hsuin Chu

The passing of Doctor Chi Hsuin Chu has left
all of us who knew him with a feeling of great
loss. He was an individual that comes along once
in a lifetime, leaving his mark on all who come in
contact with him. He was a dedicated educator
and a true friend of the students.

Doctor Chu came to the Ohio College of Po-
diatric Medicine in 1973 with the hope of devel -
oping an anatomy curriculum comparable with
any health professional school in the country and
it was through his efforts that we advanced to
f ul I cadaver instruction.

Doctor Chu was always available for and en-
couraged student questions and comments. His
unique method of lecture was informative as well
as entertaining.

Doctor Chu devoted 30 years to the instruction
of anatomy, and the Ohio College of Podiatric
Medicine was fortunate in having a professor of
such high caliber and I for one feel honored to
have crossed his path.

Steven F. Gass, D.P.M.
Class of 1979

Education and Appointments The unique personality of Dr. Chi Hsuin
Chu was well known to all of us in the class
W ash ington Uni versity, Doctorate of of 1980. Even though we only knew him for
A nat om y, Anatom y In structor, University a comparatively short period of time, he
of Utah , 1953 to 1955 , Cancer Research touched all of us here at OCPM and with
Scie ntist at Ro swell Park Institute, Buffalo, his informal style of lecturing he helped us
1955 to 1957 to understand anatomy.
Professor Emeritus o f Anatomy for the
Medical and Denta l schools at Case None of us will ever be able to forget his
Western Reserve University, A ssociate lectures with John and Mary or the Roxy or
Professor of Anato m y, Ohio College of the inevitable fact that "Chu right, book
Podiatric Medici ne
wrong".
His list of accomplishments is numerous

and includes all the students who studied
anatomy with him. His love of teaching
combined with his excellent humor not only
endeared him to us but assisted us in learn-
ing in spite of ourselves. His door was al-
ways open to the students and one could
not help but know that he held great con-
cern for the students and was on their side.

On April 14, 1979, Dr. Chu passed on
suddenly and it is with a great sense of loss
that we, the graduating seniors say farewell
to a great teacher, humanitarian and friend
in the best way we know how. To you Dr.
Chi Hsuin Chu, we dedicate the 1980 edi-
tion of the Occopodian. We were prive-

leged to have known you.

Goodbye Marilee
Though we never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself;
While those around you crawled,
and they whispered into your brain
They sent you on a treadmill
But you helped us every day
And you always stayed the same.

Thank you,
Steve Brook
