ORGANIZATIONS
OHIO PODIATRIC MEDICAL STUDENT
ASSOCIATION
The Ohio Podiatric Medical Student's Association, an affiliate of the American Podiatric Medical Students
Association, functions as the official governing body for the students of the Ohio College of Podiatric
Medicine. It is the ultimate objective of the OPMSA to coordinate its efforts for the mutual benefit of the
student body and OCPM with the advancement of the profession of Podiatric Medicine and its future
physicians.
Communication through committees, meetings, and newsletters, between the OPMSA, APMSA, the APA,
and other medical specialties serve to enhance the awareness of all groups. We strive to strengthen the
student body academically and clinically, to foster relations with the faculty, administration, as well as with
other health care professionals. We also strive to enhance student awareness, build fellowship within the
student body, and educate and serve neighboring communities.
The Executive Board governs the OPMSA and is responsible for all student associated organizations within
OCPM. These include Footprints, Occopodian, fraternities, clubs, as well as student run specialty groups. The
executive board also works to make sure that the students are justly represented in all aspects of the college.
It is through these affiliations and committees that all strata of the student body finds active representation
within the structure of OCPM and that our students demonstrate their devotion to serving the community
and enhancing public awareness of the need for foot health care.

Ohio SPPAC: It is our job to assist the National
PPAC in the raising of funds to inform students of
health care legislation pending and its effect. From
this we then act on Podiatry's behalf. The main goal
being to have podiatry, included ·in ALL HEALTH
CARE LEGISLATION. With National Health Care on
the horizon, we must stress the important effects on
us if we are not included in this plan. Health Care
legislation deals not only with us once we get our
degree, but also in school. Student loans and grants
are the best examples of this.
. This year was very successful, thanks to the
support of our student body. We know .that with
this continued support SPPAC will reach its goals.
We were honored this year by a visit from Mr.
John Carson, Director of Government Affairs for the
A.P.A. Mr. Carson congratulated O.C.P.M . on its
outstanding contributions.
Remember, our future is very dependent upon
Healt~ C~re Legislation . Only your help and
c?ntnbut1ons can help us achieve our goal. Please
give generously to SPPAC IT IS AN INVESTMENT
INTO YOUR FUTURE; YOU WI LL REAP THE
BENEFITS, AND DON'T YOU DESERVE IT?

FOOTPRINTS
FOOTPRINTS, a student newspaper publication of OPMSA, is published on a monthly basis during the
academic year. The staff, recognizing the responsibility to offer an informative student paper has been
instrumental in making 1979 a transition year for the publication.
A new format was introduced in addition to the higher quality of articles. The circulation has increased
from 600 to 3600 issues, the majority being mailed to the alumni.
The administration, development office and the ambitious efforts of the Footprints staff has been the
vehicle of change, laying the groundwork for this new era in FOOTPRINTS history.

ALPHA GAMMA KAPPA
Alpha Gamma Kappa has long since been devoted to promoting the highest in academic, clinical, and
social activities for it's members. The fraternity has held to the statement of, "Quality instead of Quanity" in
the selection of new members. The goal of the scientific and social activities over the year is to promote a
strong brotherhood among the members and to acquire the knowledge needed to be a competant podiatric
physician. Besides the academic and social events that AGK provides its members, we also volunteer our
services to various community activities. This interaction with the community builds strong public relations
that informs the community of the services that podiatry offers.
Alpha Gamma Kappa staffs three clinics, the Eastern Star Nursing Home, the City Mission Clinic, and
Ridgecliff Psychiatric Hospital were a broad range of podiatric clinical experience can be acquired.
The demo and lecture series this year presents a varied number of topics. These topics were designed to
expose each member to the aspects of clinical medicine and podiatry not adequatly covered in the clinics. By
participating in the fraternities activities the members leave O.C.P.M. well rounded podiatric physicians.

PRESIDENTS CLUB
The President's Club is a viable link between the various student organizations and the administration of
the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. The "Club" exists to accomplish progress through cooperation.
Monthly dialogue meetings are held with Dr. Abe Rubin, president of OCPM, at which time there is a
meaningful exchange of information dealing with the problems and dilemmas facing the student government,
class governments, fraternities, and other student organizations. The dialogue is intended to advance the
ideals and objectives of podiatric education for the benefit of students, the college, and the profession.
Membership of the "Club" is comprised of the school president, the president and president-elect of
OPMSA, the four class presidents, the fraternity presidents, presidents of PMSEMO, president of SACFS,
president of Pl DELTA, president of CAPS, SPPAC chairman and the editors of FOOTPRINTS and
OCCOPODIAN.

CAPS
CAPS is the national body of all Canadian students attending the various colleges of Podiatric Medicine
throughout the United States. The premise of CAPS is to set up professional associations among its members,
as well as to establish new and hopefully lasting friendships.
Our association, in essence, attempts to both notify and enlighten students at each of the colleges.
Hopefully from this basis both communication and professional contacts may be initiated with other
Canadian practitioners. We also attempt to provide information regarding Podiatry in Canada to both
Canadian students and any other students interested in practicing in Canada.
A primary concern of CAPS is to help new students adjust to both OCPM and Cleveland as well as
providing information to any Canadian students applying for entrance to OCPM.
On behalf of all of the members of CAPS, I would like to wish former president Irv Luftig and former editor
Barry Noble the best of luck in their professional careers.
