What is Sensational? Acquaintance Week “craziness.” Getting an “A” on a
final exam. Making the first string on the football team. Being tapped to be a
cheerleader. The Spartan basketball team. Discovering a “special” friend. A

feeling of “Christmas Aloha”. Prom Night. Getting a driver’s license and a car

Sometimes when people ask if I have any
special interests, I tell them Japanese the­
ater and they look at me as if to ask a
thousand questions. When I tell them I
have been dancing Japanese all my life,
they look at me in a stunned silence,
sometimes trying to change the subject. I
don’t blame them though, after all, they
are staring at this tall, white, Caucasian
girl who is telling them basically, that her
whole life has been based around the
Japanese culture.

Although there are still those few who do
not understand my deep respect for the
Japanese theater, I began to realize how
many people respected me for my talent.
Today at the age of 17, I have received
my seniors degree, and hopefully in ten
years, I will receive my professional de­
gree. I have grown to love the Japanese
culture, and if my dreams come true, a
few years from now I will be dancing Ka­
buki with the masters in Japan.
