Yearbook

Ka Moe 'Uhane started out with 45 strong and will
ing staffers. However, like most yearbook staffs, that
high number dwindled down to about 15 by the end.
These staffers, each busy with tons of other school
business, found it a challenge to get their work done
for each deadline. After successfully completing the
first two deadlines, the rest of the deadlines became
endless days and nights of headache and heartache, as
the school year progressed and work loads increased.

No longer having to crop and paste-up pictures or to
copy set body copies left more time to plan layouts, to
write body copies and headlines and to take, pick and
print the needed pictures. Although blessed with this
new system for yearbook production, the job was still
not done as efficiently as expected.

As well as a new system for yearbook production,
the staff was also blessed with the help of the new
advisor, Mr. Elliott Chamizo. Having the proper back
ground, experience, patience, and stamina, Mr. Cha
mizo was able to efficiently guide the staff in forming
a well-organized, quality yearbook.

There were a few who truly knew what being a
staffer was all about, 11 to be exact. These staffers
sacrificed countless hours on the weekends and holi
days to put the book together. Although there were
many struggles and conflicts, the job was eventually
done. Others who helped in their own way were The
resa Ching, Mark Conching, Edward Hoo, Sylvia Kim,
Lei Koike, Jaymie Pinho, Diana Tong, Dorothy Wong,
and Adrienne Young.

All in all, the yearbook is a culmination of many
ideas, words and pictures into a memory book for the
school by a dedicated group of exceptional students.
Although it might not seem like much to an outsider,
producing the yearbook is a delicate and time consum
ing operation. Even though there was no physical re
ward, each hard working staffer was rewarded in the
end by the happiness the book brought to others and
the pride of having been a part of the over-all produc
tion.

Conclusion

Another school year has lapsed, and with it, another million of seemingly
insignificant incidents that contribute to the complicated process of growing
up. Our spirit within has grown in awareness and familiarity to the things
that were once too difficult to manage. As we live our lives, we go through
several stages of progression. Each situation grows increasingly challenging,
and from it, there is always a lesson to be learned.

In high school, a major cycle of development reaches its peak of awaken
ing by our senior year. Graduation is a joyous yet painful event that marks
the expiration of our high school cycle. From here we are compelled to go
forth into the next phase and begin anew. Whether or not we are ready to
face the new realities of our next phase, the fact remains yet to be seen.
However, we build upon our relationships and ties, intellectually and emo
tionally, as a basis for stability in our next cycle.

As we compare the Phoenix to our development through our senior year,
we see the reflection of its life cycle: the Phoenix's ability to withstand the
many challenges of life; its consumation in flames; its emergence from the
ashes into a new entity reborn. In its preparation for departure, it gathers its
most precious possessions to create a strong basis on which to build upon in
its next life.

---------------

. . Many, Many,

Thanks!

Well, we finally did it! Producing these 156 pages was not always easy. I'll
remember all those heart-to-heart meetings, moments of frantic desperation,
and that sigh of relief when it was all over. All this would not have been
possible without the help and efforts of the following people.

Mr. Chamizo: You're really a great advisor. Thanks for putting up with the
late nighters, coming in on the weekends, straining your eyes going over copy,
and for sharing your expertise.

Celia: Thanks for being so efficient. You tackled a big job and saved me from
a lot of worry.

Leonard: Thanks for being the most willing. You learned quickly. I know
how much you love those body copies.

Mr. Marshall: Thanks for listening to me when the world seemed to cave in
and for being such an understanding coach.

Andrea: Thanks for being more than just my greatest friend. I'll always put
your advice to use.

Micheline: Thanks for coming through. Just think, NO MORE BODY
COPIES!

Mrs. Sandia: Yes, we all have our troubles. Thanks for the advice.
Kerry: Thanks for listening to my trials and tribulations of being editor.
Michael: Those art pictures are great! Thanks for getting it all done and for
coming even when you didn't need to.
Edgar: Thanks for showing me you could come through even when I didn't
believe you could. You've come a long way.
Lei: Boy, did we ever disagree. Thanks for sticking it out. Don't worry, your
word is still almost as good as gold.
Gina: Thanks for being willing and actually helping out just about every
section.
Chuch: We exchanged many words. Thanks for coming through with the
pictures.
Jon: Thanks for trying so hard and for learning so quickly. You're the
yearbook's hope for the future, so stick with it.
Helene and Judy: Thanks for staying late just to finish up and for all yur
efforts.
The Staff: Although at times I was completely disgusted and disappointed
with you, you sill managed to come through . . . eventually! Thanks!!
Photographers, especially to Jon-David, Clifford, and Alex: Thanks for try
ing so hard.
B&W: You did much more than any other photography studio would.
Thanks for rushing just to help us meet out deadlines. Bryon and David:
Thanks for ALL you've done.
Davidson Photo: Thanks for getting us the photos we needed.
Lawrence Hata: Thanks for efficiently printing the pictures we needed.
Chuck Klingman: Thanks for going through all the trouble to insure a good
book with Josten's.
These people have given up so much of their time and effort. Thank you for
everything.
