SOPHOMORES
The flaming horses of Apollo's sun chariot
symbolizes this year's sophomore class. This di
vision is in a stage of development where they
are showing the reputed characteristics of the
flaming horses—a certain impetuousness and as
sertiveness to their place in the world.
In that they are a year older and perhaps a little
wiser, there are indications of growth in their
actions, thoughts and attitudes. Freshman year
was one of discovery and exploration for them in
their division-oriented activities. From there, a
part of their sleeping spirit awakens gradually.
The hidden talent of before is now unfolding
before them at various times, in various activi
ties. They exhibit ability in creativity and organi
zation in competitions like Acquaintance Week,
Christmas Aloha and Homecoming, as they be
gin to build a division reputation for themselves.
In regard to their position in school, there is a
confidence and a bit of arrogance about them.
Although they have this ambitious spirit, the
Class or 1985, like the flaming horses, still needs
to seek out the guidance of the faculty and upper-
classmen, as they progress in their jouney
through high school.
Their diverse division is developing a person
ality of its own, being made up of so many differ
ent kinds of individuals. As each person grows,
he/she contributes their special qualities towards
the benefit of the whole division.
Although they have come a long way from
being freshmen, the Sophomores still have a long
way to go. Through their experiences at Maryk
noll, they are given the right environment and
opportunity to explore new ideas, further their
knowledge, and realize their potential. It is here
they witness the beauty in sharing, learning and
growth.

Sophomores'
Hectic Lives
Develop Maturity
No longer inexperienced Freshmen, the Class of 1985 burst
vigorously and confidently into their second year of high
school. By seeking to discover their hidden talents and by
wishing to become active members of the Maryknoll family,
the Sophomores got more involved in the many activities,
clubs, and sports offered on the campus. With these extra-
curriculur activities added to their already difficult courses,
their daily schedules became busier. These additional respon
sibilities also gave the Sophomores an experience of hard work,
dedication and organization. Thus, by overcoming these obsta
cles, the Class of 1985 was able to accomplish their desired
goals, such as winning the Homecoming float contest, and by
hosting a successful Sophomore-Senior Brunch that will be
remembered always by this year's Seniors.
Even though the Sophomores have achieved much this year,
their growth in maturity is not yet complete. Much must still
be learned for them to be totally developed in mind and spirit.
However, if they continue to progress as they have done for the
past two years, someday their highest goal might be bridged,
for this class has proven that they are capable of future success.

JUNIORS
In the class of 1984, one finds a group of indivi
duals who are one step closer towards a more ma
ture spirit. Though they are much wiser than they
once were, they are still in a stage of learning
through trial and error. The Juniors continue to
grow and learn in organizational and leadership
skills, as they build up their division reputation as
a creative, talented and enthusiastic group whose
work invariably results in accomplishment.
The Centaur, renowned for its nobility and
strength, models the aspirations of the Junior
Class. The Junior Class identifies with the Cen
taur in that, having come thus far, they have ac
quired some sense of moderation and varied de
grees of maturity. As a Winged-Centaur momen
tarily realizes it has a pair of beautiful wings, the
Juniors begin to realize their potential in talent,
responsibility, and their role in the life of Maryk
noll High School. Like A winged-Centaur learning
to use its new wings, the Juniors are using their
abilities in preparing them for one of the more
difficult years in their journey through high
school.
On the other hand, just as the Juniors are realiz
ing their vast potential, they are also realizing
their limitations. The junior year appears to be a
sluggish one, full of the drudgery of increasingly
difficult work. Even more attention is being paid
toward "making the grade" rather than toward
"having a good time." Despite the overwhelming
task put before them, the Juniors will most prob
ably emerge triumphant, however, only after they
learn that success can only come through hard
work and dedication.

Class of '84
Looks Forward to
New Challenges
Through the past three years of hardships and successes, the
Class of 1984 has come to realize the importance of unity.
Thus, by combining all the various talents of the Juniors, this
division overcame many obstacles to the best of its ability.
Their special gifts of talent, however, have not yet grown to its
full potential and must still continue to undergo further devel
opment.
This year as Juniors, the Class '84 searched and explored
these hidden talents that have made each class member unique
and special throughout their lives. The desires to develop the
gifts they have already discovered have increased their involve
ments and more Juniors are seen committed to activities that
have required more patience and dedication. Their victory dur
ing Christmas Aloha this year displayed the Class' abilities of
success. Therefore, many achievements are expected from this
Class in the future.

SENIORS
The seniors are now at their last stage of devel
opment in their journey through high school.
They certainly have changed in that they have
grown and matured from students of those irre
sponsible and happy-go-lucky days of under
classmen years. They have come to a point where
they are beginning to be able to make their own
decisions about school, social life, and work.
They are beginning to have their own definite
ideas and opinions about life, relationships, their
, expectations and limitations of themselves and
others. The spirit within them has matured and
blossomed, and has begun to fulfill some of their
promising potential. It is this stage of develop
ment that is most characteristic of the Pegasus,
and in turn, thus symbolizes the Senior Class of
1983.
The seniors are finding themselves in a posi
tion that takes some time getting use to. They no
longer have a division to look up to. They are
suddenly finding themselves on top of everyth
ing, having to take over the responsibility of
running the clubs, organizations, publications,
teams and the student body. The seniors are be
ginning to use all of what they have learned
within their three-year stay at Maryknoll. They
have learned from their mistakes and exper
iences, from the examples of past upperclassmen
and faculty, and from fellow divisions. Interac
tion with others, the sharing of ideas and the trial
of beliefs, all have proven to have helped shape a
better, well-rounded individual.
The seniors are now forced to go forward, to
leave behind the security of the past three years,
and take with them the strength and knowledge
they have gained from Maryknoll, to guide them
in their journey of an uncertain future. Like the
Pegasus that is ready to take flight, the Senior
Class of 1983 has spread its wings and must fly
free.
