Pac-Five Boys, Girls
Cross-Country

With many returnees, this year's Cross-Country team was
experienced and self-disciplined. Both girls and boys teams
practiced long and hard to improve their times in prepara
tion for the weekend meets. The runners' determination for
perfection shined through as they paced themselves to a
second place finish in the ILH and earned a trip to the state
championship meet on Kauai. The Cross-Country team was
coached by Mr. Leo Marshall, who was voted ILH coach of
the year.

Girls Varsity, JV
Softball

Due to the overwhelming interest in softball, Maryknoll was
able to create its own Junior Varsity and Varsity teams this
year. The JV season consisted of long workouts in which the
fundamentals were taught by Coach Glenn Oshiro and
then put to use in scrimmages against ILH and OIA teams.
The Varsity team showed great promise during preseason
play but found themselves up against stiff competition
when the regular season rolled around. The Varsity team,
coached by Mr. Andy Corcoran and Mr. Curtis Kern, has
great potential for the next season.

Boys, Girls Canoe
Paddling

There's an expression, "culture takes many forms”. For
some, paddling fulfills this need. Known as Te Hoe Mamu, the
Maryknoll padding team "swiftly and silently" braved its
way through the unpredictable waters of Hawaii. The Mary
knoll paddlers combined with Damien and Saint Andrew's
Priory to form Kamiano. Because of pride in their culture, the
paddlers showed the spirit of a true Ghana.

Pac-Five Golf,
Swimming

Although golf is an unexplored sport among many students, Kyle
Walker had an "edge" by being a part of this year's Pac-Five Golf
Team. He learned that golf requires patience, precision and a
competitive drive to win.
Although not as publicized as basketball, or football, the Pac-Five
Swimming Team participated in a successful year of tough com
petition. The two MHS representatives on the Pac-Five Swim Team
were seniors Ray Boland, and Lorna Loebl. During the week, wor
kouts consisted of 2000 + yards every afternoon followed by swim
meets on the weekends. The Pac-Five swimmers qualified for the
State Championships which were held on the island of Maui.

Pac-Five Wrestling,
Gymnastics

This year, Maryknoll was well represented in Pac-Five events both
in Wrestling and Gymnastics. These athletes spent long hours at
practice and meets perfecting their skills.
Comprised of freshmen and sophomores, the wrestling team
proved to be a rising star in Pac-Five sports. Routine drilling condi
tioned the wrestlers to confront other ILH opponents. The discipline
required of these hard-working individuals gave them an appre
ciation of true sportsmanship.
The girls gymnastics team stunned the ILH with their graceful and
confident style. They vaulted their way to their first ILH title. These
girls proved to be the cream of the crop.

Boys, Girls Varsity,
JV Soccer

This year the girls and boys soccer teams didn't do as well
as expected due to intense competition and physical size.
Both the Junior Varsity and Varsity players worked long and
hard to improve the season as well as their individual skills. It
was obvious that this year's teams (girls JV under the St.
Francis name; girls Varsity under the Maryknoll title, and
boys JV and Varsity under the Pac-Five title) were in a
rebuilding stage. With this behind them, they can now look
forward to a more promising season in the future.

Pac-Five
Track And Field

The 1986 Track and Field team, under the direction of Coach Leo
Marshall, saw the return of experienced runners and field special
ists. The Pac-Five group showed up in force with 120 members who
worked out long hours everyday after school at the track to
prepare for weekend meets. The team this year showed a great
amount of potential for the season as well as looking good for the
distant future in the ILH.

Pac-Five
Baseball

Maryknoll members joined forces with four other schools to create
a Pac-Five entry into the ILH baseball season. With a handful of
returnees, the team had a rebuilding year on its hands. These
athletes practiced everyday after school in their hitting, pitching
and fielding, to improve their individual skills. The season proved
that Pac-Five would be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
