Our faculty is a group of
dedicated teachers who offer
T.L.G., (tender loving guid

taught to us. In addition to
the daily march of classes and
exams, there were moments when
teacher and student found
themselves as friends in times
of need and laughter. Thanks
to our administrators and fac

Embarking On
A New Horizon

The Frosh faced a long
path ahead of them as they
began their first step into
high school. They started
the year off by planting
their own roots, and nour
ished it with sound leader
ship, spirit and together
ness. With these favorable
elements on hand, they were
well on their way to a suc
cessful year!

One Step

At A Time

As the school year
began, Maryknoll's newest
and youngest additions to
the family were often found
wandering about the campus
like lost sheep exploring
new fields. Problems like
I grabbing the wrong set of
books and going to the
wrong classes were other
difficulties that the
Freshmen confronted. How
ever, they soon managed to
fit into their new sur
roundings with the help and
continual support from
their "big brothers and
sisters."

Pitching For
A Winning Year

The Freshmen got their feel
of their first "boogie on"
field day, which is a tradi
tional favorite for Mary-
knollers held annually at Ala
Moana Park. The day was
filled with enjoyment and de
light and offered students
some extraordinary learning
opportunit ies.

Football, baseball, and
volleyball were among the var
ious games and competitive ac
tivities which afforded the
freshmen a chance to exhibit
their athletic skills and
styles.

Together

As newcomers, Freshmen
always experience diffi
culty finding a place to
grow. This year's
Freshmen handled this
challenge by supporting
each other in achieving
mified goals. By un
leashing their creativity
and vitality they con
tributed much to Mary-

An Energetic
Outlook

The Sophs started the new
year by casting off their
image as "baby Frosh" and
becoming worldly Sophomores
of Maryknoll High. Through
out the entire year, these
"Super Sophs" brought a
touch of excitement and
energy to our life at
school. Look out MHS, the
Class of 1980 has it to
gether !

A Main Course

Of Unity

The mountain of work that
confronted the Booster Club in
preparing this year's luau,
was quickly reduced to a mole
hill with cooperation from
each division, including the
industrious Sophomores. From
the physical labor of setting
up, to the serving of the de
lectable food, the Sophomores
contributed their share as
true Maryknollers would. So
let the Sophomore spirit shine
on!

Spreading The
Season’s Joy

The Christmas holidays gen
erated much excitement among
the Class of 1980 as they took
one giant step towards be
coming full-fledged Sopho
mores. By immersing them
selves in Maryknoll's tradi
tional winter events, the
shining Sophomores proved that
they had their act together.
They brought their enchanting
voices to the Battle of the
Choirs, their joy to the
Christmas party and their mel
low moods to the Winter Prom.

Spirit Leads
The Way

February was a very special
month at Maryknoll, filled
with zany events that were
part of Spirit Week and Home
coming 1978. Ranking high on
the "spirit meter," the Sopho
mores achieved their position
by participating in the Hair
Day and the string contest,
and by tying for first place
in the flashcard competition.
The strongest showing of Soph
omore Power was exhibited at
the games, where they left no
doubt of their Spartan zeal.

Realizing
The Times

"To share with each other
the ideal that love and
friendship is the greatest
gift in life." With the words
from their Alma Mater in mind,
the Class of 1979 stepped to
wards another year with con
fidence and enthusiasm. By
reaching out in care and in
volvement, the Juniors disco
vered trust and unity. They
were a source of inspiration
to their fellow students at
Maryknoll.

The Joy
Of Giving

"The Thanksgiving Jubilee"
became this year's theme for
"Turkey Day" as the entire
student body created a vibrant
atmosphere of celebration.
The true Thanksgiving spirit
was felt among the Juniors as
they collaborated together to
assemble and decorate a well-
balanced basket of food. The
result of their hard work was
not only a fine showing in the
basket competitions, but also
nourishing and welcomed
Thanksgiving meals for the
needy.

Holiday Spirit

In The Air

With Christmas just around
the corner, the Class of 1979
set out to spread the season's
spirit. It began with a spark
as the Juniors shared their
joy and exploded to capture
first place in the annual
Battle of the Choirs. They
refreshed the audience with
songs from the past and the
present and made their star
shine even brighter with their
original "Christmas in the fu
ture." They continued to
erupt by participating in the
Christmas mass and distributed
a flow of goodwill to neigh
bors and close encounters.

Unifying

Gold

The arrival of new class
rings is always reflected in
the smiling faces of Juniors.
This year was no exception as
the Class of 1979 received
their bands of gold in a brief
ceremony held in the A.V.
room. The individual charac
ter of each ring made them an
important personal keepsake
and a symbol of unity in the
Junior division. And of
course, the tradition of
twisting their rings 79 times
around their fingers wished
them luck and good fortune for
the forthcoming years.

CLOCKWISE iron right: Father Simone adds an
extra special touch; Julie Dias inspects her
newly received ring; "Hey, that's a nice ring.
How many box tops did it take?"; The Juniors'
line-up takes form.
