cipated in an assortment
of activities this year,
ranging from fund-raising
to helping in the annual
Aloha Week festivities.
The Hawaiian Club also
visited the Polynesian
Cultural Center to learn
more about the Hawaiian
way of life.

French Club. The club is
comprised of students who
share an interest in France
and its customs. This
year, the French Club par­
ticipated in the Foreign
Language Week activities
and raised funds by selling
delectable Gummy Candy
Bears and fruit drops.

together at that last and
final moment when all else

In an all out effort, spir­

all over again..." But life
is a one-way road with no

Screams of excitement mixed
with laughter could be heard
throughout Roger's Hall as
students participated in games
during the Acquaintance Week
celebration.

The final day of Acquain­
tance Week found five freshmen
facing the student body as the
winners of "Da Kine Keiki"
contest. That night all of
the "keikis" went to their
first "High School Dance."

sense of awareness about our

The spirit of Christmas
rang merrily throughout Mary-
knoll as the tenth annual
Battle of the Choirs got under
way. Every division put out
their best effort after many
weeks of practicing.

This year the Class of '79
emerged as the winner. They
based their theme on Christ­
mas: past, present and fu­
ture. The Class of '78 came
in second with tough competi­
tion from the Classes of '80
and '81.

Close Encounters
Of The ??? Kind

Excitement mounted as MHS
Homecoming activities rolled into
its first day. During Spirit
Week, students went all out by
dressing up in obnoxious apparel,
taking on unusual appearances
and tying inch-long strands of
string together. Homecoming
Week followed with even more
stunts, including blind-man's
basketball and a booth selling
"kisses." To see who would reign
over this year's court, nominees
for king had to collect Love's
wrappers and the nominees for
queen performed in a talent show.
All of these events prepared eve­
ryone for a most memorable Home­
coming .

One On One

Homecoming 1978 had finally
arrived and with it came the
float and flashcard competi­
tions. The time and effort
spent on creating the floats
made each one outstanding and
unique. The Seniors won the
float contest with their en­
try, based upon their theme,
"Spartans Get It Together."
A new event was the flashcard
competition in which the Soph­
omores and Juniors tied for
first place. It involved stu­
dents holding up small cards
which combined to form a large
message displaying Spartan
Power. A furious basketball
duel against University High
topped off an exhilarating
week.
