Marco products are produced to all applicable environmental
standards. No compounds used contain any substances classified
as health hazards according to EEC Directive 1999/45/EC and the
UK CHIP Statutory Instrument 2002 No 1689.

100% of all possible recycled uPVC material is reused in the
manufacture of Marco Trunking Systems. Recycled material is only
used in the uPVC Trunking bases in order to allow the visible elements
and accessories to be as pure white in colour as possible. In order
to maintain the highest quality and to keep tolerances above the
required level, the ratio of regrind to virgin material does not exceed a
predetermined percentage.

All Marco Steel Wire Cable Trays are manufactured from steel wire rod
comprising 100% recycled material. 100% of the minimal amount of
scrap Steel Wire Cable Tray produced is sold locally for reprocessing.
Marco Steel Wire Cable Tray production is UK based, reducing both
its ‘product-miles’ and carbon footprint to a minimum and setting it
apart from its main competitors.

Marco recognises that it can extend its sustainability policy beyond its
own business and encourage Marco customers to return old products
to Marco for recycling and reprocessing into good production.

Marco products are RoHS compliant and meet REACh credentials
and the company is supporting their customers towards achieving a
high BREEAM rating or other accreditations.

ysgol-y-graig sustainability

The UK’s largest manufacturer of Steel Wire Cable Tray, Marco Cable 5
Management has supplied Ysgol-y-Graig, North Wales’ first ever green
school, with Apollo 3 Compartment uPVC dado Trunking throughout the
building.

Work at the £3.7million Ysgol-y-Graig in Anglesey, built using sustainable
timber, has now been completed and lessons have resumed for the
school’s 300 pupils. The overall design of the school has been created
with sustainable principles in mind. All internal lighting is fitted with energy
efficient lamps, and the school generates up to 50% of its own electricity
through photovoltaic roof tiles and wind turbines, with surplus energy
generated sold to National Grid.

Marco uPVC dado Trunking has been installed at the school to contain the
traditional electrical installation, whilst any waste material generated was
returned to the Marco manufacturing facility for recycling. Offering several
benefits in terms of ease of installation, the use of Marco dado Trunking
has had a significant impact on the installation programme reducing costs,
time and labour.

Situated in Anglesey, North Wales, near to Marco’s headquarters, the
school was visited by several of the Marco team, all of whom were keen
to see how the new scheme has developed. Ian MacGregor, Marco Cable
Management Managing Director said: “Being situated so close ourselves
to Ysgol-y-Graig, it’s great to be part of the local team that helped create
a landmark facility such as this. The Marco ethos fell very much in line
with the specification and design of the building in terms of sustainability

antimicrobial

ELITE hygieia range Marco is pleased to offer an anti-microbial protection to its
uPVC product ranges, including the ELITE Hygieia range.

These uPVC Trunking systems are used nationwide in environments
where the spread of infection must be controlled, such as hospitals,
care homes, schools and laboratories.

Marco utilises silver-ion technology, to create a defence against
99.9% of harmful bacteria growth. This provides built-in protection
from, and prevents the growth of, bacteria, fungi, mildew and
moulds, including:

MRSA
E-Coli
Salmonella
Klebsiella Pneumoniae
Streptococci

The anti-microbial compound is incorporated into the uPVC, and
is therefore an integral part of the trunking. This means there is
no degradation of performance if the surface becomes
scratched or damaged as there is protection throughout the
system.

All anti-microbial products are tested in accordance
with ISO22196:2007, which specifies the method of
evaluating the antibacterial activity of treated plastic products
and is in compliance with all relevant European regulations.

The Marco Hygieia range is packaged in blue in order to differentiate
it from standard uPVC Trunking.

case study - antimicrobial

dr gray’s, elgin

Marco’s Hygieia has been specified at the large-scale refurbishment of Dr Gray’s hospital in Elgin,
Scotland. Under a phased programme of works, wards and offices across the hospital have been
revamped and fitted with new services, including mechanical and electrical. G&A Barnie Group
carried out all M&E works and specified Marco’s ELITE 3 Hygieia product as part of their plans.

Graham Nicol, Contracts Manager, Elgin Branch of G&A Barnie Group said: “Dr Gray’s hospital
remained open at all times throughout the year long refurbishment programme and was split into
very definite phases. Timescales were critical and we operated closely alongside a number of
other trades to ensure we all worked as effectively as possible.

A key objective for us was the upgrade of the cabling system to meet Cat 6 requirements. We
removed the majority of existing services and re-installed with a modern cabling solution.

During the design phase, the client set their criteria and a major concern for them focused
on the use of products that helped prevent the spread of infection. With little experience of
working with antimicrobial products, we carried out some research and through discussions
with Marco’s National Business Development Manager, Steve Davis, found Marco’s ELITE 3
Hygieia uPVC Trunking. This proved to be ideal solution for use in the Staff Nurse Stations,
Ward and Office areas.

We are seeing increasingly more demand from end users who are asking us to source new products
that address specific issues. It’s good to work with a company such as Marco who offer solutions
to very real issues through their products and services.”

through the use of either a coloured centre lid or DDA Plates.

The Part M Building Regulations 2000 Amendment for the ‘Access to
and use of buildings’ document outlines various regulations, including
The Disability Discrimination Act (2005), which is designed to assist
those with visual impairments in public buildings.

case study - DDA part-m compliance

treloar school, hampshire

Marco has supplied its DDA Compliant ELITE uPVC Trunking to
Electrical Contractors Baudelaire Ltd, carrying out works at a
large-scale extension at internationally renowned Treloar School
and College.

The Treloar Trust provides education, care, therapy, medical support
and independent training to young people with special needs from all
over the UK and overseas.

There was also an important requirement in meeting DDA compliance,
and Marco was able to offer this through the use of a grey centre lid.
The bright white colour of the Trunking also sat well with the clean
lines and general design of the building.

Contractor Baudelaire, has carried out all electrical works at the
project on behalf of main Contractor, Osborne. Paul Sawyer, Director
at Baudelaire said: “This was a complex two stage project that
became challenging as we began to look at accessible routes across
the building. The design was altered and throughout these changes,
we were able to use the Marco DDA ELITE 3 uPVC Trunking, which
allowed us to meet all the bends and various gradients for the Power
and Data cable distribution requirements.”

To allow for a quick and simple installation, the ELITE 3 base and internal
walls are pre-punched to allow for cables to be fed into position with ease,
eliminating the need for drilling or cable retainers.

The Trunking is available with a full range of fittings and accessories,
including moulded flat angles and tees, along with the newly designed two-
piece adjustable bends to accommodate installations where 90 degree
corners are not possible. ‘Screw fit’ fittings are available on request.

The system has been designed to accommodate up to 50mm socket
boxes, complete with large knock-outs, which allows for the use of deeper
RJ45 Modules.

An optional pre-punched steel screen divider is available. This spans the
width of the Trunking and meets the requirements for power and data
separation (BSEN50174-2).

bristol robotics laboratory

Marco has supplied a series of cabling solutions to contractors Concab Electrical Limited as part
of the electrical and mechanical fit out of the world renowned, Bristol Robotics Laboratory.

The Robotics Laboratory carries out cutting edge research programmes focused on the
development of robot systems and is the leading and largest academic centre for multidisciplinary
robotics research in the UK.

A full refurbishment programme of a new laboratory has facilitated further room for development
and research across a 2,400 square foot area encompassing 60 separate rooms, with new
accommodation for laboratories, offices, research and teaching activities also to be developed.

The electrical and mechanical works formed a key part of the refurbishment scheme and was
managed by Concab, who was appointed by the main contractor, Cowlin Construction Limited.

The six month M&E programme included the supply and installation of a new LV distribution
system, small power services, lighting system including emergency lighting and fire alarms with
voice and data system. The project was designed to be completed under a fast track programme,
which meant ease of installation was essential, without compromising quality, suitability and
strength in terms of products and systems selected. Scissor lifts at five metres high were used
to carry out the majority of the works, across a vast area, which presented a series of challenges
to the site team.

Steve Davis, National Business Development Manager for Marco said: “The ELITE 3
uPVC Trunking system was selected for the scheme, its curved bright white appearance
blending well with the surrounding aesthetics. Within the new laboratory, it was also adapted to
include a grey lid to meet DDA requirements.

This system offers an innovative design solution for the growing data cabling market. At 175mm
x 60mm, the symmetrical design allows for the installation of power and high density structured
cabling systems including CAT5E, CAT6, Shielded, CAT7 and the new CAT6A 10 gig solution.

Since the centre opened, it has led the way in the development of robots on an international
scale”.

Steve concluded: “This has been a fascinating scheme to be involved in and we were pleased
that our products matched with Concab’s requirement. The new laboratory presents a clean,
clear open space with excellent lighting and improved power distribution enabling the Bristol

Marco’s ELITE Compact uPVC data Trunking system offers an
innovative design solution for the growing data cabling market.

At 145mm x 50mm, the symmetrical curved design allows for a large
number of cables to be housed in installations where space is
restricted, including CAT5E, CAT6, Shielded, CAT7 and the new
CAT6A 10 gig solution.

The high impact resistant uPVC, means the Trunking systems are
both sturdy and robust and able to accommodate a greater
number of cables. They are produced from the highest quality uPVC,
providing an aesthetically-pleasing pure white finish.

To allow for a quick and simple installation, the Compact base and
internal walls are pre-punched to allow for cables to be fed into position
with ease.

The Trunking is available with a full range of fittings and
accessories, including moulded flat angles and tees, along with the newly
designed two-piece adjustable bends to accommodate installations
where 90 degree corners are unobtainable. ‘Screw-fit’ fittings are
available on request.

The largest of Marco’s ELITE range, the ELITE 60 Trunking system has
been designed to cope with installations requiring a greater number of
power and high density structured cabling systems, such as CAT5E,
CAT6, CAT7, Shielded and the new CAT6A 10 gig solution.

The ELITE 60’s unique top opening lid allows power cables to be installed
easily and speedily. Should additional power cable wiring space be required
further capacity can be obtained using the optional clip-in divider.

A 50mm minimum bend radius is provided for all Marco ELITE 60 data
fittings including flat angles, tees, internal and external angles. All cables
can be laid into place avoiding the need to thread cables through apertures,
thus ensuring that all of the Marco fittings are easy to install and to wire.
Screw fit fittings are available if required.

The system has been designed to accommodate up to 50mm socket
boxes, complete with large knock-outs, which allows for the use of deeper
RJ45 Modules.

A £26million re-development of Orpington College gave a complete overhaul to case study
existing buildings and facilities and created a state-of-the art education centre
with first class resources. The specification for the electrical installation at 29
Orpington included a Cat 6 Structure Cabling System that met the IT
requirements of the College, and Marco’s ELITE 60 Trunking at 200mm x 63mm
deep was chosen as the perfect system.

The ELITE 60 offers greater capacity for Cat 6 cables as well as using 50mm
Back Boxes for the deeper Cat 6 RJ45’s. Marco’s ELITE 60 internal,
external and flat angles offer a true 50mm bend radius, meeting all relevant UK and
international standards which safeguard the integrity and performance of the
client’s network.

Part M of the Building Regulations for England and Wales sets out
requirements and offers direction relating to access and use of buildings for
wiring devices and controls, incorporating three key areas: accessibility, visibility
and ease of use.

In order to achieve this, Marco has adapted its ELITE 60 Trunking to meet DDA
Part M compliance, at the request of the client, with a bespoke grey coloured lid
and backplate, offering greater prominence for those with visual impairments.

solution is Emcor, contractors at the £45.7 million new school development, The Grange
in Runcorn. Emcor has specified Marco’s Apollo Trunking at this scheme, the square and

Available in both dado and skirting versions, Apollo 4 compartment
uPVC Trunking offers separate compartments for power, data and
telecommunication cables. This four compartment Apollo Trunking provides
two large centre compartments, ideal for those applications where larger
data needs exist.

To form a four compartment Trunking, the MT4K1 kit is added to MTD3,
MTDQ3 or MTS3.

Marco has supplied a series of bespoke Juno uPVC Trunking units
to contractors on-site at Brighton University’s student
accommodation scheme ‘Varley Halls’.

The Juno units, each cut to one metre in length, were supplied pre-
assembled with boxes and end caps already in place.

Lorne Stewart forms part of main contractors Leadbitter’s supply chain
and has collaborated with Marco on several schemes in the past.
Their choice of the Juno Trunking system met the contractor’s
needs through its single compartment design, which can be
subdivided by means of divider strip, for power, data and
telecommunication cables. The positions of the divider fixing points allow
for two, three or four compartments to be made depending on
installation needs.

Simon Kowalski, Key Accounts Manager at Marco said: “Lorne Stewart
had a clear specification that we were able to meet with our Juno
Trunking. A further requirement was to pre-cut and pre-assemble the
Trunking and accessories required which, when delivered to site,
allowed the contractor to quickly install the units, providing a
significant saving in both time and labour costs”.

The new centrally shared Hub Building, includes accommodation as
well as a café, restaurant, fitness suite and launderette for use by
everyone at Varley. Set over five floors, the top three floors offer a
mix of single and double study bedrooms, each finished to a high
specification. There are also dedicated conference rooms and a café
on the ground floor, with a restaurant and more meeting space on the
first floor.
