introduction

The 3.6m double-sided Marco Aluminium Power Pole is available in both
a satin anodised and white powder-coated aluminium body, with a pure
white uPVC lid.

The system benefits from a strong aluminium profile designed to retain
its rigidity in all installation situations. The length of the Power Pole can
easily be modified on-site and a height-adjusting locking mechanism is
supplied. The pole benefits from 35mm deep accessory boxes for quick
and easy installation of accessories.

A 1 metre aluminium Power Pole extension is available, and Marco can
supply power poles up to 5 metres in length, normally from stock.

Each Marco Power Pole is supplied with six accessory boxes, ceiling
shroud, floor boot, accessory spacers to help speed installation, and six
metres of uPVC divider.

Coloured lid and coloured plates can be supplied to meet DDA compliance.

power pole power post The 0.65m double-sided Marco Power Post is available in both satin
anodised aluminium and white powder-coated finishes.
Please contact our Sales Team for further information on the range
The post is used in much the same way as the Power Pole, but transfers
wiring up from the floor, rather than down from the ceiling.

It conceals wiring effectively and positions sockets conveniently, which is
of particular benefit in offices and other application areas.

Marco Power Posts have a metal plate on the underside which is fixed
securely to the floor, and a strong steel rod that extends from the plate
through to the top of the post to give the product added strength.
Power Posts can be fabricated to specific sizes, up to 1 metre tall,
if necessary. Should you require any further information then please
contact our sales office.

The Power Post is capped with a pyramidal top, and is supplied with a
floor boot, six accessory boxes, uPVC divider and accessory spacers.
The accessory spacers, which are fitted between the socket boxes, help
to reduce installation times.

old trafford

Marco has supplied a series of Power Poles to contractors at work in
Manchester United’s football stadium, Old Trafford.

As part of a wider alterations programme at the ground, the Marco Power
Poles were specified by Alard Electrical.

The firm opted for a white powder-coated finish (a silver finish is also
available) to blend comfortably with the surrounding environment. At a
standard 3.6 metre length, the double-sided pole benefits from a strong
aluminum profile designed to retain its rigidity in all installation situations.
The length of the Power Pole can be simply modified on-site and a height-
adjusting locking mechanism is supplied.

A one metre extension is available for each Power Pole with each pole
being supplied with six accessory boxes, ceiling shroud, floor boot, and
accessory spacers to help speed installation.

Forming part of Marco’s growing range of Cable Management solutions,
the Power Pole is ideal in situations where the power supply must be
introduced and contained in an open area.

Key Accounts Manager Kate Knox added: “The Power Pole is a
fantastic accessory that often meets a very specific need within a project
and we’re pleased to have been able to support Alard Electrical in meeting
all of their objectives.

Old Trafford is recognised internationally as a sporting institution and we’re
pleased to have formed part of the supplier team who’ve helped improve
the ground in preparation for many year’s sporting action!”

case study

Set over two floors, the new build scheme contains eight studios at ground
floor level and a large number of offices at level one. With major acoustic
sound proofing and high power supply needed to cope with the demands
of huge and complex lighting rigs (there are 2,700 light fittings in total), work
began at ground floor and continued on a studio by studio basis.

Marco’s Steve Davis worked closely with electrical contractor Whitehead
during both specification and build phases of the new studios. He said:
“Whitehead specified Marco’s Steel Wire Cable Tray at a depth of 55mm,
with widths varying from 100mm – 500mm. Several thousand lengths of
various sizes were installed to support the Cat6 data and fire alarm cables.

A series of Marco Quick Fit accessories were used to support the installation.
Quick Couplers were used to join the lengths whilst Quick Locks were used
to speed installation on sweeping bends, alongside the Marco Fast Fix Strut
Clip to secure the whole installation. The use of Fast Fix Strut Clip enabled
the Steel Wire Cable Tray to be fixed to the strut channel within seconds,
reducing the installation time considerably when compared to the traditional
method of hold down clamp, spring nut, and bolt.

BBC Drama Centre As part of the specification and under the restraints of a fast track
installation programme, Marco developed a bespoke Steel Wire Cable Tray

olympic white water centre

Marco have supplied a series of specialist products to contractors at work
on London’s historic Olympic event in 2012.

Marco’s Steel Wire Cable Tray was used by the M&E team at the White
Water Centre in Lee Valley, located 30 kilometers north of the Olympic
Park, on the edge of the 1,000-acre River Lee Country Park – part of the
Lee Valley Regional Park.

The White Water Centre has two separate courses including a 300 metre
Olympic-standard competition course with a 5.5m descent, and a 160m
intermediate/training course with a 1.6m descent. Both courses were
built from scratch, along with a 10,000 square metre lake. This feeds a
system of pumps that provide the course with 15 cubic metres of water
per second. The white water is created by these pumps and obstacles
placed along the course.

Construction of the Lee Valley White Water Centre was completed on
time. It opened in spring 2011 as the only brand new London 2012 venue
that the public were able to use ahead of the Games.

Jeff Kerridge, Sales Manager said: “Of course we’re delighted to
see our product included in a worldwide historic event such as London
2012. Being part of the supply chain involved in delivering products
to those on-site and helping bring this massive event to life is a
fantastic achievement.”

The two courses and the facilities building remain, with the venue once
again becoming a world-class canoeing and kayaking facility for people
of all levels of ability, and a major leisure attraction for white water rafting.

the shard, london

Marco has supplied both Steel Wire Cable Tray and ELITE uPVC Trunking
to M&E contractors carrying out installation works at the Shard, the latest
major development to feature amongst London’s skyline.

The Shard, which stands at 1,016 feet, is currently the tallest building in
Europe. Completed ahead of the London Olympics, the Shard provides
900,000 square feet of office space, hotel, residential apartments,
restaurants and viewing galleries with unparalleled views of South East
England. Designed by world renowned architect Renzo Piano, construction
costs alone have totaled £435 million.

Jeff Kerridge, Sales Manager of Marco Cable Management
said: “Needless to say, we’re thrilled to have our products specified at
such an important structure. Our ELITE range has sat incredibly
well with the modern, clean, bright white design of the Shard and it’s
fantastic to see our product in-situ.

This specification really highlights how far the business has come in its 10
years. Today, we are supplying products across the UK to contractors
employed at major landmark schemes including this development in the heart
of the capital. We have worked hard to ensure our products hold national
appeal in terms of functionalility, quality and aesthetics and our involvement
in this scheme certainly demonstrates this”.

top marks at swansea university

Marco, a leading uPVC Cable Management Company, and the
UK’s largest manufacturer of Steel Wire Cable Tray, has secured a
‘significant’ contract with Whitehead Building Services to a series
of supply cable containment solutions at Swansea University’s
£450million Campus scheme.

The Campus Development Programme will transform the existing
estate into a trailblazing 21st century centre. Swansea University has
been working over a number of years to develop the plan, which will
ultimately allow the higher education centre to become a research-
intensive UK top-30 university by 2017.

The Campus Development Programme, focuses on the development
of a new Bay Campus and the transformation of the Singleton Park
Campus. Contractor Vinci will manage the construction of the scheme
and has appointed Whitehead Building Services as Mechanical and
Electrical Contractor. Work on the main construction began on site
in May 2013 and the new campus will be welcoming its first student
intake in September 2015.

The university is keen to utilise local supply chain teams in terms of
both contracting and the supply of products.

electro-zinc and pre-galvanised

Electro Zinc

Electroplated Steel Wire Cable Tray is the standard and most popular
range in the UK market place.
With the current trend to ‘show off’ an installation, Marco Electro-Zinc
trays are bright and shiny, giving a pleasing aesthetic finish. Adequate
corrosion resistance and protection for most dry, internal
environments, EZ Steel Wire Cable Tray can be used in both new and
refurbishment projects.

typical applications include: Universities
Airports
Schools and academies Factories
Hospitals Ceiling voids and roof-spaces
Offices
Warehouses

Pre-Galvanised

The Continuous Hot-Dip Galvanised (Pre-Galvanised) finish is one of
the latest finishes to be launched by Marco.
Ideal for use in data centres and other interior applications, this
finish offers an alternative specification to Electro-Zinc plating.

Whilst Pre-Galvanising (PG) is also a method of hot-dip galvanising
(HDG), it differs in the thickness of coating and the order in
which the raw steel is treated – PG is treated prior to
fabrication, rather than after. The finish is much smoother compared
to that of a HDG finish.

Marco Powder-Coated Steel Wire Cable Tray is recommended for interior
use in a range of atmospheric environments and is capable of withstanding
a variety of corrosive conditions. The product is proving ideal for installers
looking for extra protection above that offered by a hot-dip galvanized
finish. Powder-Coated Steel Wire Cable Tray can also be used in exterior
applications when the tray has also gone though a galvanizing process.

Not only does the product offer additional protection, its coating also
provides suitability in environments where aesthetics play an important role.

Suspension brackets can be used effectively only up to a certain weight. For larger Steel Wire Cable Tray, support channels are recommended. * Due to a central wire running down the length of the tray a
MCB35 is needed. **Due to a central wire running down the length of the tray, central suspension brackets would need to be staggered.

installation test area

Marco has created an Installation Test Area at their factory premises,
where all Marco uPVC Trunking and fittings can be installed and tested in
a realistic setting.

Marco has a spectrophotometer to carry out in-house colour testing, external
fire testing (Warrington Fire Testing), in-house quality/testing procedures and
supplier test measurements for the uPVC compound Marco purchases.

testing

Marco Cable Management has further demonstrated its commitment to
producing the highest quality products on the market by investing in a
high-tech suite of specialist test equipment.

To date, Marco is the only UK manufacturer of Steel Wire Cable Tray to
own such high specification in-house testing equipment, which will ensure
all products are fully compliant with IEC61537 and related standards.
Marco is now able to regularly carry out full deflection tests on all products,
and is testing alternative configurations with a view to developing the next
generation of trays for the UK and European markets.

safe working load

Marco Steel Wire Cable Trays are tested across two spans and a cantilever.
The deflection is measured on the central span using three sensors placed
on the sides and at the centre to the tray.

The test method conforms to the BSEN 61537 standard.

Note: The maximum deflection of 1/100 is always reached for a lesser
load than that of the safety load. (The breaking point divided by a safety
co-efficient of 1.7). CEI/61537

recommended support spacing

There is an optimum configuration to obtain 2 metre spans without the
couplings being positioned at the supports or in the middle of the spans.

To obtain this result, the first span is deliberately limited to 1.5 metres,
then the supports are placed approximately every 2 metres. The coupling
points are therefore always 0.5 metres from a support.

commissioned EMC tests.

This indicates that Marco Steel Wire Cable Tray can offer a more efficient
and compact installation (rather than relying on spacing).

quick fit strut clip (mcfusc)

The Marco Quick Fit Strut Clip (MCFUSC) is ideal for a wide range of
installations, including modular builds, as it is able to be fitted prior to transit
without the need of additional securing clips.

In order to prove that the MCFUSC can be used in even the most complex
of installations, Marco undertake bespoke testing to the conditions of
British Standard BSEN61537.

The testing takes place at Marco’s in-house facilities, using a Compression
and Tensile Testing Load Cell.

To determine a Safe Working Load for the MCFUSC, a test is devised by
fitting a length of MC55200EZ (55 x 200mm) Steel Wire Cable Tray to a
piece of strut, attached using two MCFUSC clips.

The machine is then set to pull away from the centre position up to a
maximum force of 80kg, until either the Steel Wire Cable Tray deflected
5mm in height, or the MCFUSC failed.

The Steel Wire Cable Tray reaches the desired deflection of 5mm with the
MCFUSC holding securely in place.

Marco can therefore prove that the MCFUSC has a Safe Working Load
of 80Kg.
