From the Principal’s Desk

The first year of the pandemic was all about the
transition into the world of online school. Last year was
all about bringing back normalcy and gearing up for
physical school.

Decision making amid challenging times, ensuring
readiness to welcome students back on campus,
teachers’ transition from online to blended learning,
facing challenges pertaining to the health of different
stakeholders and many more behind the scene struggles
- all of this does not do justice to the last two years of
continuous and consistent efforts.

I take this opportunity to thank Shri Parents who have shown solidarity and stood with the
school every step of the way. The way parents, students, teachers, admin staff and the
management have triumphed over the circumstances, simply goes on to show our GRIT as
an organization, as members of the Shri Family. Flexibility and adaptability have been the
mantra through these tough times.

I am immensely proud to say that the next edition Shri Darpan is a testimony to our Grit
and Resilience.

A committed team of passionate educators worked tirelessly to provide enriching experiences
to students ensuring that the pandemic does not dampen their spirits. The path-breaking
Shri colloquium, Shri Utsav, Acharya Devo Bhava, IDS award, Senior Secondary Affiliation
are a few among many achievements that showcase the stories of GRIT this year.

I take this opportunity to thank the staff members of TSUS who have shown their grit by
holding fort with confidence and commitment. Kudos to the editorial board for bringing up
this magazine facing multiple hurdles on the way. While it was an uphill task, I must say - it
was worth it.

Now I am eagerly awaiting the new academic year with an open heart and arms to see our
Shriites experience the campus and their classes in person and be happy and focussed.

Love and passion can make anything possible!

From the Senior School Head’s Desk

My dear Shriites
Namaste!

The past two years have been turbulent and
challenging, and you, my dear children, have faced
it with courage and tenacity. You have provided us
and each other with comfort and supported us as
we grappled with technology.

The entire academic year was marked by
transitions - online to hybrid to offline to online
and you faced it all with the spirit of a warrior. You
have been a part of history in the making, and
someday you will look back and recount these days
with a smile. Therefore, I would like to urge all of
you to create a journal or a scrapbook with
memories of these times so that you are able to recount your journey with ease and feel pride
at the distance you have covered.

I know that these years have left a mark on you; I would like to tell you that the world needs
kindness. Be kind first to yourself and then to everyone around you. Don't be too hard on
yourself.

Set goals for yourself in the field of academics, in fitness and in learning skills. Sometimes
the goal might seem too high or too difficult but persevere. Break it down to simpler goals
or manageable tasks. Remember that small progress is progress still! Keep at it and when in
doubt ask for help from your parents, your teachers, your friends. It might seem like a
difficult task to say 'I don't know' but that it is the first step to achieving your goal. Always
remember impossible itself says I m possible.

Do stand up for what's right. In case you see something wrong happening around you,
observe it, think about it and raise your voice. Don't be a bystander, allowing things to
happen. Rather hold the steering wheel and make a difference!

I look forward to a new year with hope and pray that it brings us lots of new learning and
enables us to live a life of happiness and harmony!

‘I see children as kites,
You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground,
you run with them until you are both breathless, they
crash, you add a longer tail, you patch and comfort,
adjust and teach, while you watch them lifted, you
assure them they’ll fly.’
The Shri Ram Universal School is a launchpad for
many such lovely kites i.e. our Shriites. At school, we
try to provide an ecosystem of happy and stress-free
learning so as to propel them towards greater learning
and fruitful outcomes. This has been the ideology behind all the methods, measures and tools
of learning that we have adopted over the years. Here is an overview of some of these:
Books and Beyond - Reading Week
The idea is to inculcate the habit of reading and enable students to dive deep into the world
of knowledge that lies beyond the printed words in textbooks. The Shri Reading Programme,
a differentiator of our school has worked wonders to enhance the reading skills of Shriites.
Important Dates
We realise that both local and global awareness in Shriites will pave the way for better social
bonds, connectivity and the ability to respond sensitively to world events in the future. Thus,
we not only celebrate festivals and events of national importance but also days of human
importance such as the Global Tiger Day, National Handloom Day, Earth Day, World Book
Day, Sign Language Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, International Day
of Peace, World Ocean Day etc. in addition to Colour Days.
Healthy Competition
Apart from individual and intra school activities, we have made an attempt to participate in
various Inter-School events conducted by various schools in the city and in the country.
Thus, we have hosted Shri Utsav - Elementary Fest for Nursery to Pre Primary 2 and for
Grades III to V. There was an admirable response from various schools across the country
and Shriites excelled in many of these competitions.
Children’s Day Celebrations-

8 |Shri Darpan

Various online and offline events were organised for the students from NK to Grade 3 to
make the day memorable for them. We had organised a magic show for NK to BK students
and many fun activities from Grade I to III.
Social Awareness Programme-
Social Awareness programmes like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were
discussed with the students during the Sparkling Saturdays and students presented their
understanding of the same in the class assemblies in Grade I , II and III. ‘Dress to Share’ and
‘Share and Tell’ was organised by the teachers from NK to BK in partnership with parents
during the class assemblies.
International Dimension in Schools
The need of the hour is to develop thinking skills in students as it will become a decisive
factor in shaping their careers. We added the IDS programme as we wanted to add research,
creative thinking and global exposure to the lives of Shriites.
Thus, we have done the IDS project for Grade II on the topic ‘From Head to Toe’, Grade III
‘Folk and Tribal Art Forms’ and explored the international dimensions of these topics.
Shri Fit Fest and Talent shows
Various activities like online Sports Fest and ‘Chohta Packet Bada Dhamaka’ were conducted
for the students to hone their fitness and public speaking.
Integrating Technology-
It is an encouraging fact that we have moved away from the ‘chalk and talk’ method and
embraced progressive ways of teaching and learning during the pandemic. Our Shri
Educators now use various educational tools, PPTs and apps to add substance to the lessons
taught. I am very happy to share that our Shri Educators have mastered technology-driven
classes, making learning more enjoyable and fruitful.
We wish to do much more than this in the physical school for the coming year.
I am glad our source of inspiration, Dr Jyothi Reddy, our dedicated Shri Educators and most
importantly our conscientious parents by our side. With all of us together, don’t you agree
that the dream of empowering lives and transforming our future is within hands reach?
Happiness is not a destination, it is a journey that begins at the Elementary and Primary
level!

From the Editorial Board’s Desk

Dear Readers
In the presence of trouble, some buy crutches, others grow wings.
At the Shriram Universal School Hyderabad, we believe that the people who win are the
people who think they can.
The year 2021-22 can correctly be called the year of grit and perseverance. This year has
given us time to re-evaluate our priorities, recalibrate our expectations and has also reminded
us that there are no rewinds - only flashbacks.
Our annual school magazine, Shri Darpan, based on the theme of grit espouses these
sentiments.
This year’s edition unleashes a wide spectrum of our students’ creativity through the various
informative and inspirational articles, poems stories, jokes, artwork, etc.
The designing of the cover page for the magazine has also been done by Shriites.
The editorial board would like to express its gratitude to our beloved Principal, Dr. Jyothi
Reddy for her constant support and encouragement.
We would also like to appreciate and congratulate the efforts of Shriites and Shri Educators
for their contribution to the success of this edition.
We hope that the readers enjoy reading this magazine as much as we enjoyed the journey of
bringing it to you.

Happy Reading!

Student Council Report

Head Boy

Being in the student council is a privilege and something you can only experience when you
are a part of it. But being the head member of the council has its own feeling
When I was elected as the Head boy of the school, I was skeptical about how much we can
actually achieve since we were studying online for half of the year but thanks to our teachers
and the help of the other student council members, we made it happen. During the online
mode, we were given the opportunity to organize and host the Shri Fit Fest. It was exciting
seeing the positive response of everyone in the school following the instructions and doing
all the tasks even in their busy schedule. Sometime later when Offline School started we
noticed that there was a lot of food wastage in the cafeteria. So we came up with the idea of
setting up food wastage monitors. All the student council members volunteered and were
given specific days on which they are the monitors. In only a few weeks we saw an extreme
change in the wastage which kept on decreasing day by day.
This year has been my most thrilling year and I learned a variety of new things that will aid
me in my future. As a student of TSUS and a member of the student council, I would like to
appreciate and thank every one of you for making this year memorable for all of us.

 Vidit Gupta, IX A

Head Girl

This academic year has surely been exciting for all of us at TSUS! Being in the student
council, I have had many learnings, a few of them being adapting to different situations in
life, looking at things in a positive way and instilling the feeling of hope in others. When I
was elected a member of the Student Council, I was not quite sure on how we will go about
executing our duties on an online mode, but our loving Shri Educators made it possible by
organising meetings regularly and keeping the student council activities going.
All of us in the Student Council were given an opportunity to organise the Shri Fit Fest, an
online sports event last year. It was a learning experience for all of us as we had to
encourage the students to take part in this fest. We thought of many ways to encourage our
fellow Shriites and it was indeed a learning for us as many of the students were
apprehensive about doing an online sports event. After two years of being in the virtual
world, we eagerly looked forward to going to school, meeting our Shri Educators and
friends. It was tough for many of us to follow a routine and move out of our comfort zone,
but our teachers were our pillar of strengths during these times and helped us to get back
to normal. After getting back to Offline School, one of the other activities that we initiated
as the Student Council was to ensure minimum wastage of food in the cafeteria and so we
distributed this duty among ourselves. Within a few weeks we saw a drastic change in the
amount of food being wasted.
Being in the student council has been one of the most enriching experiences that I surely
will carry as I move on to the next phase of my life. As part of the Shri Family, I would like
to thank each and everyone one of you for making this year one of the most memorable
ones that I will always cherish.

 Dhriti Madan, 9A

15 |Shri Darpan

Chief Editor

When you think of the Shri Ram Universal School, a warm bliss of sort echoes inside. With
dazzling smiles and tender hearts abound, it is indeed the best environment anyone can be
taught in. There is always an excited buzz around the school, encouraging and motivating
us to put ourselves out there and give our best, however that may be. As a leader in the
school, I was struck with the feeling of being able to make a change, to aspire and inspire,
and help anyone who needed a hand. It evoked something in me, as well as in my fellow peers,
and we continue to hope to strive.

What Lies Beneath the Iceberg?

Interview with Shri Shalin, IPS, IG, National Security Guard
- By student editors – Ishita Chintalapati and Manasvi Reddy

‘To Protect and to Serve’ is one of the greatest honours ever. The students of the Shri Ram
Universal School attended a session with the respected Mr. Shalin, IPS.

Mr Shalin joined the Indian Police service in 2001. He
worked as an AIG for the initial part and worked with the
Defence Team of the Prime Minister of India for his safety.
He served as DIG in Patna and in 2017 joined the NSG for
close protection.
Here is how the interview went.
Usha ma’am: Thank you sir for joining us today. I have been
following your blogs for some time. You are an accomplished
speaker and an excellent blogger, not to mention, a much-
decorated person. Yet in one of your blogs, you said you felt
inferior and suffered from a lack of ability in college. Would
you please elaborate on that?
Mr Shalin: I was being modest in that blog. I was born in Ludhiana and that too in the 80’s
when terrorism was widespread in Punjab. My childhood was spent in the shadow of that.
This, however, was not why I wanted to join the force. I went for the glamour of the
uniform, and the respect it would get me. That was the sole reason why I chose this job.
Usha ma’am: How does it feel that you are not a part of the corporate world?
Mr Shalin: I was a part of it once. I’ve seen a bit of it, but it didn’t attract me. I have always
wanted to join the police force. However, just being a part of the force does not make me a
successful man. I want to tell to everyone, especially the students listening here today, that
occupation does not define success. Media glamourises certain occupations, but that is
wrong. A person is only successful when they are happy. You should only pursue your own
dream, and not someone else’s.
Usha ma’am: That was indeed true sir. Can you tell us about your college life?
Mr Shalin: Well, it was a disaster, academically at least. I left IIT Kanpur and went to a
different college, IIT Dhooki on the recommendation of a friend. IIT Dhooki was in short
was not the place for me, and I started deteriorating there. I only stayed for the girl I fell in
love with, who is now my wife, though I would not recommend that to everyone. In turn,
though, I must really commend my father. I called him from Kanpur about a day after I got

16 |Shri Darpan

into the college, and I told him I wanted to change schools, and he came the next day to
take me back. This decision, however, was a mistake on my part, but it was wonderful for
me, as I was allowed to make a mistake. But, I started losing my way at IIT Dhooki. My
first and second semester was a disaster, and academically I went down. But I made it in
life, which is what I appreciate and value.
Usha ma’am: What helped you emerge out of this situation, and how did you deal with it?
Mr Shalin: One thing you must realise is that most of the students were extremely focused
then. The story was the same everywhere. I was in the minority, who were drifting around
had no idea what to do, barely passing the exams. I was too busy ‘enjoying.’ What saved
me, was my wife, who was then a brilliant friend, and there were some boys from Bihar,
who helped me a lot and wanted to get into Civil Services too. My mother, however, had a
lot of fate in me. All those things came together when I needed them, and now here I am. I
would also like to tell the students to spend more time with people who like them. It was
my friends who helped me out in the end and were an important part of my life. So, please
spend more time with people who like you, instead of people from whom you will benefit
more.
Usha ma’am: I’m sure this is a sensitive topic for you. How did you cope with the loss of
your brother and father?
Mr Shalin: Well, I’m still coping with it. Especially with my brother, and my father too
who died four days later. We were rivals, yes, but we did have that deep bond that siblings
share. But I think that life does not give you a choice. You have to cop. They called me back
from the Academy, and they were sensitive, but in the end, I had to go back. I realised that
life had to go on, despite my world changing completely. You just have to keep yourselves
busy in the business of living. You will splutter and collapse, but the world will carry on.
So, just pull yourself up, and go on.
Usha ma’am: You have to be the Master of life, agreed. My children sent these questions:
How to prepare for Civil Services? And what was you’re first Posting like, and how did it
feel when you were at the Academy?
Mr Shalin: Today everyone has lot of content for reference, but I had to go the Delhi. I
went to an extremely godforsaken place, and I made some friends. It was very tough, but
when you are young, and you are motivated, you work around it. I joined one coaching, and
I got the other printouts from my friends. I self-studied a lot. Your schooling matters a lot
in this portion of your life and career. I was very sincere and hardworking in school till the
12th grade. I loved English, and my father encouraged that. I loved History too. Many
people regarded me with disdain then but it came very handy for my Civils. So, I will tell
you to pursue your interest, and they will help you later.
Usha ma’am: My Editorial Board asked this: How can we motivate and encourage the
youth of today to pursue civics?
Mr Shalin: I feel that many students are already motivated. In small town India at least.
People in Metropolitan cities might not be, but children in small towns already are. I don’t
think that I can inspire Middle and Upper Middle-class families can. I would tell the
children to be grounded, and the parents to help with that. The Government is very
important, and the teachers need to make the children aware of it.
Usha ma’am: What was your first assignment like, and what was your most challenging
assignment?
Mr Shalin: My first assignment was in Aurangabad. It was hard, but I enjoyed myself a lot.
I loved feeling special in such a small space and the respect the uniform got me. All I
remember is feeling important and happy. My most challenging assignment was overseeing
the Prime Minister’s Protection Team. It was a very big honour, but it was extremely hard.

17 |Shri Darpan

It must have been a shock for people who knew me though, as I was very mischievous as a
child.
Usha ma’am: How did you feel feeling that you had to take the first bullet etc, and how did
your family take it?
Mr Shalin: The risk was nothing new once you got used to it, and it was a matter of pride
for me, and a great honour for me. I was never really bothered with the risk aspect. My
wife was proud of me and supported me.
Usha ma’am: As DIG of Patna, you made a lot of new laws for girls, could you elaborate on
that?
Mr Shalin: The safety of girls was very at risk in Patna. The girls thought that harassment
was very normal there, and that was very shameful for the State. It was a very serious issue
for the girls of the country and still is. We should be very serious about this aspect; I was
shocked that the girls thought that this was normal. So, we started a new program to help
them. Self- Defence takes a long time for anyone to learn, and we needed an immediate
change; besides, it is the responsibly of the State to ensure protection the of each and every
citizen. So we lodged an FIR, and we lodged hundreds of those. It was an eye-opener for
me. They (the girls) felt that they have to defend themselves, and were afraid to even
complain about they were scared that their parents would withdraw them from their
schools. This is very shameful for both the Government and the parents. I would disown
my own sons if they ever thought of doing something like this.
Usha ma’am: What should we do as a school to enable the protection of our girls and
empower them?
Mr. Shalin: I think ma’am that girls are better off in your schools. But that does not mean
that the safety of these girls is not a concern. They should come out, and talk about things
like this if that ever happens to them. They should expose the people who act indecently
toward them. The school should also make boys aware that this is wrong. They should
change their attitude. This should be taken very, very seriously.
Usha ma’am: Indeed, sir. A student asks: Who is your inspiration?
Mr. Shalin: My parents. My father was a very friendly parent, and he used to take me on
his lap, and read me Shakespeare and Chaulin. My mother was a strict parent. She was a
tough parent. But she helped me become the man I am. I had the Good Cop- Bad Cop
persona in my life, which helped me a lot.
Usha ma’am: Another student asks: Do the Forces use technology?
Mr Shalin: Yes, we do. This might be surprising to you, but many of the IPS officers are
IITans. We have very brilliant people in the Intelligence and CBI etc, who use state of the
art tech. However, the everyday day police officers need to incorporate technology into
their work.
Usha ma’am: What is your favourite quote?
Mr Shalin: “Never underestimate the power of doing nothing.” We emphasize too much
on hard work, but sometimes you need to just dream big. This generation is focused too
much on achieving and deciding. And, just a request, please do not make them adults. Let
the children be children, and the adults, adults. There is a time to dream and a time to
work. The business of living is not that hard, and ultimately you just have to perish. So,
stop being focused too much. You need to blossom into beautiful individuals, not burn out
at 21. So, just do nothing at times, and relax and de-stress.
Usha ma’am: Thank you, Sir. Your words were really inspiring!

A Lifetime Experience!

This is a real-life incident that took place in March 2020, when Covid-19 first hit India.
Nobody knew that life was going to change completely. Wearing a mask, social distancing,
and quarantine has now become the ‘New Normal’.
During the first wave, my sister, a 21-year-old was stuck all by herself in Mumbai. She had
just finished her college and gone there for an internship. She couldn’t make it to catch the
last flight back to Hyderabad. On 17th March 2020, when PM Modi announced the
lockdown, we thought this would be just a 15-day lockdown, but unfortunately it extended
endlessly.
Nobody knew what was in store for all of us. It was extremely difficult for my sister to get
groceries as the area she lived in was a containment zone. There were days when she
walked to the grocery store, stood in a long line but came back empty-handed as everything
had run out in the store. Her landlord and family helped her through the difficult times. She
was confined to a small matchbox sized apartment to fend for herself. She was all alone and
felt very depressed and dejected. But thank god for technology, she was able to connect
with friends and also suddenly realized that she could pursue her passion, dance. She
attended online classes and also got an opportunity to teach dance to kids known to her.
The rest of the time while she was alone flying by as now, she had something to look
forward to.
I learnt a lot from her experience of not giving up hope even in the toughest of times. Her
grit and determination saw her through life’s most challenging times. In my sister’s words,
“Seize the moment because some opportunities don’t come twice”. Looking back, she has
learnt a lot in those two and half months of being by herself. Infact now her passion, dance
has become a career that she is pursuing.
Most of us had our families with us, but it’s when you experience such a situation you
realize the value of being with your family! Two months later, she got back to Hyderabad
and was happy to be reunited with her family.

Power of Courage and Determination

The invincible power of courage, grit and determination can help anyone accomplish
anything one wishes to do, be or have. All great achievers in the history of the world
tapped this power.
Santosh Yadav and Maria Sharapova also tapped this
power. Santosh Yadav, though born in an orthodox
Indian family, she was able to influence her parents
through her determination to educate herself and to
follow her dreams. She showed this determination
when she told her family members that she would
definitely educate herself even if she had to work part-
time.

20 |Shri Darpan

Secondly, she also showed her determination when after her exams
she went to Uttarkashi to join mountaineering training camp. She
used this determination to learn mountaineering skills. No wonder
owing to this power of determination and courage she could climb
Mt. Everest twice. The Indian Government conferred the
Padmashri on her for her exemplary qualities.

Maria Sharapova also had to make many sacrifices to achieve success in tennis. Maria paid
the price in the form of loss of her mother’s love at the tender age of 10. Her father, Yuri
took her to America for tennis training; unfortunately, her mother, Yelena had to stay back
in Siberia because she was not issued visa. Even in America, she had to face lots of
challenges. But Maria Sharapova paid the price and emerged as a tennis star when she won
the Wimbledon women’s crown in 2004.

Disastrous Day

Thump! I fell off my bed when my very annoying and loud alarm rang. I hobbled to the
bathroom and started brushing. Suddenly I snapped to my senses and remembered I had to
go to the wedding of my best buddy. Oh yes! I forgot to introduce myself. I am Anna Davis,
I am very forgetful and lazy. I just graduated from college and work in an IT company.
I hastily started getting ready for the wedding and started packing my bags. I searched my
contact lenses and then rushed out. The wedding was in a day and I was late, I had no way

to rush to the railway station. After waiting for a long
time I got an Uber. We reached the station in 20
minutes. I rushed to the station and waited. The train
was early and was waiting. I rushed in and sat in my
seat.
I was reading a book when I heard an announcement that
the train is stopping at Gujarat. I was confused and found
out that I had boarded the wrong train. I called the
people who help around the train and informed them
about the situation. They had told that after leaving Gujarat the train was going to
Mumbai Station. After reaching Mumbai I rushed to the wedding location and reached just
in time. Ah! What a disastrous day I had!

Dad - My Super Hero

Pandemic, something which we would not want to even dream
about, had become a major problem where we had to go through a
lot of physical and mental change. The challenges which we have
gone through cannot be imagined twice. When we were suffering
through these difficult times, we could also see many people like
the doctors, the police officers, workers, nurses and many more
who were fighting against the Covid-19 virus. We saw many
frontline warriors who stayed away from their families during this
pandemic and gave their everything to save us from this critical
challenge.

One of such stories is about my dad. He was one of the front-line warriors as a police officer
and risked staying away from us and helping the one’s in need. Once I had also seen my dad
on the daily news, where there was a picture of him and news written besides saying he had
saved a person’s life by taking them to the hospital on an emergency. I was very excited to
hear this and with curiosity I went on asking how he felt. He said he was really happy and
had pride within him that he had done such a great work!
All the warriors out there, are just doing their job. We can’t give back what they’ve given,
all we can do is thank them for being such great heroes.

Punctuality

We have 24 hours in a day. What we do with those 24 hours, define who we are, model our
personality and shows our skills, eventually be successful. Punctuality is completing a
certain task on time or before time. Punctuality isn’t just important for saving time having
a comfortable life, it helps in many other ways.
Punctuality helps in having an organized life, as well as a healthy life. Being punctual
lessens the stress that you take, as you don’t have to worry about the deadlines moreover
you can find time to do some lost hobbies or any activity that relaxes you. if you adhere to
it. It also helps your physical health, as being punctual can save you time, and you can find
time to workout or do an activity. We must also respect other’s time too.

Summer and winter follow each other every seven months. Similarly, we should also be punctual and
regular in whatever we do. Nature teaches punctuality. The sun rises at a particular time round the clock. Be
it a morning walk, job work, meals, bathing etc. we should always try to be on time and do everything with
dedication.

The way we manage our time, decides our punctuality, and our punctuality decides our day
and life. “time and tide waits for none.” Is a common statement, one that says that time is
precious, and that every second we loose of it, is never coming back?

Developing Grit

The word "grit" is used to describe determination and effort. It's been said that successful
people succeeded because they're smart and they work hard and stick with difficult tasks long
after they might have given up on them. For most people, grit refers to an ability that is
developed over years of experience and application, embodied by the famous phrase "practice
makes perfect".
So, why is grit so important? Because talent is overrated. The world is filled with what could
have been, and talent is in no short supply. But with grit turns talent into skill and turns
potential into reality. When talent meets grit, the potential can be realized. So, if you, as a
parent or educator, want your children or students to realize their potential and achieve their
most meaningful goals, then we need to understand what grit is and how to cultivate it.

How do we develop grit? In this article i will be showing you a few ways you can develop
grit which can lead you to succeeding in school and life

Find a Passion
In the process of pursuing their passions, which will most likely change over time, you can
develop grit. Those ballet classes, guitar lessons, capoeira, jiu-jitsu, and basketball practices
create environments in which you can learn how to overcome challenges and persist

Do Hard Things
It’s the ultimate chicken and the egg: does success breed confidence, or does confidence breed
success? The short answer is both. You need to do hard things so that you learn that you can
do hard things. The harder things you do, the more you know and believe that you can do
hard things.

Celebrate Failure
Fear of failure and fear of making mistakes can keep us from trying. When we don’t try,
we’ve already failed. When we celebrate failure and mistakes as a natural byproduct of
stepping out of our comfort zone and an essential part of the learning process, they can
become valuable opportunities for learning and growth these were some of the ways you can
develop grit and succeed in school or later in life. Thank you and I hope it helped.

My Inspiration

VIJAY is a superhero not only on screen but also off-screen with his simplicity, kindness,
respect and cute charming face. As his father was a director, he had got a chance at ten years
old, his first role was in the movie Vetri (1984). Further he wanted to continue his career in
the industry itself. He told them that he wanted to become an actor but his parents were not
confident, however no one could stop him with his passion and determination towards his
goal. Then he featured himself as the lead for the first time, in Naalaiya Theerpu (1992) which
didn’t work out well. In Vijay’s case a particular leading magazine during this particular

movie wrote “Do we have to watch this
face spending our money?” Vijay had
cried all the night. Despite all his critics,
Vijay had overcome all those hurdles
with his silence. Undoubtedly after few
years, Vijay’s fame made the same
magazine to publish his photo as the
magazine’s cover page. One fan of Vijay
through a letter wrote to him suggested
the title “ILAYA THALAPATHY”
(Young Captain) after the release of
Vishnu. One of his films named Ghilli
released in 2004 got him a lot of admirers
all over the country, in fact the movie
was running for 200 days at the box office also the first Tamil movie which touched 50 Crores
mark in box-office. He then had a lots of blockbuster movies. Accordingly, he signed to a
movie named Thalaivaa which had led to many destructions in Tamil Nadu state. This movie
offended AIADMK (political party in TN) and the party’s leader Jayalalitha, at point it was
banned in Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s fans were highly disappointed and did protests. After all those
things they released the movie, it was delayed though. The eye-opening thing is he had
received an award for this movie (Vijay Award for Favourite Hero). Later he was credited
the name THALAPATHY (the captain) when the first look of MERSAL was released. In
spite of his hectic schedule Vijay is
Socially Responsible Person
Vijay has raised his voice against several social
issues and voiced his opinions. Being its Cauvery
protest, Jallikattu protest, Srilankan Tamilian
protest, or Nadigar Sangam protest, Vijay has
stood by the people and registered his statement.
During demonetization, Vijay was one of the few
actors to share his vocal support of the public and
explained their pains to the government

Thalapathy Vijay donated Rs 1.3 crore to
coronavirus relief efforts
Actor Vijay has contributed a sum of Rs 1.3
Crore to combat the deadly Corona Virus

Vijay did several donations to the government and stood by the people.

27 |Shri Darpan

Whenever there is a natural disaster, Vijay has made his contribution by donating money
or needed material to the government, and people. Not only for Tamil Nadu, but Vijay had
donated for some other neighboring states like Kerala and others too. This charming actor
has also appeared in a short commercial video that highlights the issue of child labour,
poverty and the lack of education. Allegedely, the actor celebrated his birthday by gifting
new born babies at a government hospital. Every year Vijay has celebrated the auto drivers
on the Labours Day.

Vijay may not have the typical film star looks or six-pack abs, but he is one actor who has
taken the Tamil industry by storm. His simple off-screen personality and philanthropy, his
impressive comic timing, he is playback singer and his appealing dance moves has won a lot
of admirers. What else could be more inspiring than this??

The Wrath of Gulls

Mirabelle stooped under the low roof of the bakery and took out her twin knives. These
knives were given to her by her father, elegantly carved with flying gulls, and as she took
them out to work on the lock, she could almost feel him beside her as he taught her how to
use them on distant trees. Mirabelle prayed to him now, for forgiveness, "Pardonne moi
Papa, mais je suis désespéré." Forgive me Papa, but I am desperate.
The knives were small in her palm, and they made quick work of the rusted lock. She
walked into the shop and prayed to the Saints that she would not get caught. She had just
finished taking a loaf of bread when a lone lantern flickered on. Mirabelle froze, her breath
heaving, her thoughts focused solely on her children and how they would survive if she got

30 |Shri Darpan

caught. She muttered a silent prayer and lunged, her knives poised just below the jaw of the
old man who had wandered there, her eyes dripping with desperation.
The man stood silently, taking in her tattered dress, her loosening hair and the loaf of
bread clutched protectively in the crook of her arm. She had splatters of mud on her face
and arms, but she did not care, such was the weight of the sin she was prepared to commit.
The man spoke silently, “Je te laisserai garder le pain et je n'appellerai pas la Police si tu me
dis comment tu es entré." I will let you keep the bread and will not call the police if you tell me
how you got in.
Mirabelle replied in her native tongue, "The lock was rusted and your security is poor."
"There are guards patrolling every inch of this square, there is no way you could have got
past them."
"Guards also have breaks, do they not?"
 "Forty-five second ones."
"That was enough."
"The King will have you thrown in the Bastille for at least fifteen years."
"He won't if there's no one to tell him."
“Ah, so you’re desperate, good, that will help later on.”
“You talk an awful lot for a man who’s about to die.”
“You and I can help each other Madame Bocher.”
"How do you know my name?"
"That is unimportant. But, I would like to give you an offer. If you can accomplish this task,
then I assure you, both you and your family can live comfortably for the rest of your days."
Mirabelle slipped into the Nobleman's house, leaving a trail of unconscious bodies in her
wake. She canvassed the front and then leapt onto the railing, climbing. Her fingers found
the trusty nooks and corners easily, her muscles cording; her body used to defying gravity
from her adventurous and unscrupulous youth, one she now had to rely on.
She reached the room she was looking for, and quietly slipped in, her steps dulled, like the
flutter of a bird’s wings. It took her but a few strokes of the knives to end his contemptible
life. As the life faded from his eyes, Mirabelle thought about how he was just one speck,
soon to be lost in the flurry of dust engulfing France like a dark cloud of death, burying
Her in a shroud of misery.

31 |Shri Darpan

She slipped back the way she came, the footfalls the mere echo of one, alerting no one of her
presence. As she snuck back out the gate, she froze for the second time that day. There
were a dozen men, carrying rifles, all at once surrounding her. “Les gardes royaux” she
realised, The Royal Guards. The smirking face of the old man was the last thing Mirabelle
saw before she was hauled into the back of a carriage, the allegations flying over her head.
She only thought of her children, and who would take care of them now that she was gone.
She thought of the Great Regime, and how it was made unfair, a battlefield rigged for those
who fell prey to it. But the New Age would bring her vengeance. An Age where all were
equal. An Age where the man who doomed her children would be the prey of the battlefield,
and she the predator who ensured her met his end.
“Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid.” Mirabelle said to herself every day, waiting for the day
she would be let out.
Little by little, the bird makes its nest.

Nothing like a Song

The television blared in the dark of the night as Ellie skipped through channels, bored.
A thick bandage covered Ellie's wrist.

The world she was in scared her. She was going to turn 18 soon. How she would die and
what can kill her will be soon revealed. She did not want to know. No one ever did.

It would be written on her wrist when the clock strikes midnight. The witching hour, which
Ellie found amusing. She did not want to see it, so she covered it.

“Extinct! One of the rarest animals is said to be gone extinct” - The news lady droned.

The words caught Ellie’s attention as she paused her mindless browsing and turned up the
volume.

“Our sources convey that the famous Periculo Bear, one of the only of its kind, was found
dead in its cave. Let us watch the famous Scientist, Cormac McBrown, talk about how the
bear could have died.”

The camera turned to show a man with greying hair and kind-looking brown eyes. 40, single,
and an alcoholic, predicted Ellie.

“Thank you, ma’am. My research is based on this rare Bear. Ancient manuscripts have shown
that the Periculo Bear mates for life. It has a longer lifespan than most bears. Many
Archaeologists reported finding cave paintings of this beautiful species. My theories include
the bear killing itself out of misery and loneliness.” he droned on and on with a boring but
interesting voice.

“Thank you Dr. McBrown for your interesting insight into the situation. Back to our
viewers. A group of reporters reporting back to the news centre claimed that the bear was
found with its poisonous fang in its heart. Now, we have Inspector Zane disclose the details
of the case.”

“Thank you, Ma’am. The Zoo-Keeper called the station this morning stating that he had
heard a very humane shout coming from the Periculo Enclosure. It was half an hour later,
Scientist McBrown arrived on the scene and assessed things. He made a statement claiming
the shout was the bear and that no human could have survived entering the cage let alone,
taking the fang from the bear, and stabbing it. His research shows us that this bear could kill
any human in a matter of seconds. By then it seemed unlikely that a human had killed the

33 |Shri Darpan

bear. He also claimed that the bear had killed itself out of blind misery and loneliness. The
Scientist’s research, once again, claims that these rare bears mate for life, and when one mate
dies, so does another. It is extremely sad that the bear had to kill itself and had to go extinct.
But then again loneliness is a driving emotion and the bear was one of the only Periculo bears
alive. Thank you for having me, Ma’am.”

“Thank you, Inspector, for your time. Now,
we have clarity that the Famous Periculo
Bear was killed out of misery and loneliness.
To be honest, I would have done the same if
I were the only one of my kind. And now,
another one of earth's creations has died and
gone extinct. Mother Earth is a fascinating
planet. Let us pray that another species does
not go extinct. Thank you for watching our
channel and tune back in a few hours for
more news. Thank you.”

With a smile and a wave, the news lady
waved goodbye and the screen turned black
as Ellie had switched it off.
A cold shiver ran down Ellie’s spine as she
heard the distinct ting tong of the Grandfather Clock strike twelve. A sharp pain shot up
Ellie’s arm as her future was going to be revealed.

Behind the thin cloth of the bandage, Ellie could see the spine-tingling black calligraphy
etch itself on her wrist.

Taking a shaking breath, Ellie forced her trembling hands to unravel the bandage.

A blood-curdling scream echoed through the house as the letters on Ellie's wrist became
prominent.

Her head was ringing. She did not understand.

Her eyes glassy and posture unsure, she rises and walks to the window and looks out into
the street. Everything was quiet. Everyone was asleep. Still as a zombie, she switches on the
teli. The same headlines flashed.

“The Periculo Bear, Extinct?!”

“Another species gone”

34 |Shri Darpan

And another interesting headline which sent chills down her spine,

“Robbery at the zoo. Two animals missing. Not identified.”
Unable to take it anymore, she falls unconscious, her head hitting the sofa.
The sun glared into her eyes as she woke, confused at first. Remembering last night’s events,
she falls back onto the sofa. No will to wake up.
“Happy Birthday to me!” she whispers sarcastically to herself.
She sighs as she gets up, before going to do her chores for the morning, she switches on the
television.
“Robbery at the zoo mortuary. The Periculo bear’s body stolen!”
Fear struck Ellie’s body. She froze. What was happening?
Chills ran down her spine as she felt a chilly wind running through her house. She whips her
head around when she heard a creak in the stairs. “Meow!”
She stifles a scream when she sees red covering her cat’s luscious black fur. She tries not to
think negatively. Maybe her cat was out hunting?
She chooses not to think about it.
Shaking uncontrollably, she decides to head to safety to her warm bed upstairs. If only hiding
under her bed protected her from the monsters from the real world.
Settling into bed with a warm cup of hot chocolate, she lets her mind relax.
Scrolling through her phone, she comes along an article on the robbery of the carcass of the
Periculo Bear. The police uncovered the thief. Unsurprisingly and surprisingly, Dr
McBrown. She knew he was not right in the brain.
The Periculo bear’s blood held medicinal properties, if used correctly it could have been a life
saver. Dr McBrown, along with his son, have been arrested for stealing and performing
illegal experiments on the bear. Investigations are going on as there is a rising concern of
him murdering the very bear that, among many others, were under his protection.

35 |Shri Darpan

And that night, among her books, Ellie’s, hot coco in hand, the downtown lights winking
knowingly at the window. Before getting into bed, she padded across the room in her
pajamas, parted the curtains, and watched the thick, heavy snowflakes falling without end.
Through the windows, bright red strobe light flashed across the walls accompanied by a
high-pitched wailing. The sound was nagging and accusatory. It was nothing, nothing like
song.

Into The Sea – Shark Edition

We all know life doesn’t just exist on land, but also the depths of the sea are homes of the
living. Did you know that there are more than 1000 species of sharks alive, well that too may
be decreasing, thanks to us humans! But we need not worry much as these amazing creatures
as the number of sharks keep building and building. That’s the beauty of our ecosystem. Well,
not a lot of people identify the types of sharks that can or cannot be around us. So, here I’ll
be lettering a few of the commonly seen shark species.
Ragged Tooth Shark
These species of sharks are very commonly found, but they mostly are originated at the tip

of South Africa. These sharks are great hunters and are
as deadly as getting trampled by an elephant because of
the huge number of teeth they keep growing constantly.
I am not kidding. The Ragged Tooth Shark (you get it
from the name) have teeth that are grown almost all of
the time. It is almost unimaginable of how many teeth
they have because they keep growing and falling and
growing and falling and, you get the idea. Imagine if we
humans had the same type of teeth as these sharks.
Blacktip Shark

Well, there is a lot of information on this particular
shark as it is the star in planning and patience
throughput its lifetime. You heard me right! They are
like the ants in water. Now, what is the most common
characteristics in sharks, they are great fishing skills and
great ears, same does this guy have. But what is special
about this shark is that they have special sensory organs
which help all of the Blacktip sharks come to the same
place to catch fish at one place! I forgot to add, they are
the masters behind teamwork. Once almost all of the
sharks come to the common place, they work together. Here is their formula: some of the
sharks’ swim underneath, while others circle the fish bringing them together (herding) and
when the moment is right, they start attacking. Since they all strike from every direction,

39 |Shri Darpan

none of the fish are left. Wow! Amazing how all of them worked together to solve each other’s
problems. That is what is called teamwork.
Tasselled Wobbegong

You might be feeling by lookin at the picture, “But hey, that
is a fish, isn’t it?”, well yes, it is a species of fish, but because
of sharks are also fish, it was classified into a shark. Pretty
legit, huh?
So, this shark is a species originating from the eastern seas
of Indonesia and is one of the greatest hunters in the history
of sea life. Want to know why? Well, it is always about
procedure, you know the way of doing. They are the king of
disguise as that is the first step to their “fishy” success. Now,
let me tell you their procedure. Since the Tasselled Wobbegong looks like coral, it first lays
down near a bunch of real coral, but their favorite hideout is near caves. And because of their
sharp eyes, they can sense any movement in the water and start the mimicry act. The tail of
the Tasselled Wobbegong mimics a fish, and as the fish comes near, the Wobbegong quickly
gulps it down the throat. Woah! That was good!
Greenland Shark
This species of sharks is very unique, but to start us off, they live in the coldest part of the

Earth, seas of Antarctica. They can travel up to only
a kilometer only because that is how they are given,
but they can live up to 200 years, more than a lot of
the species of the sharks. They live in the twilight
zone of the ocean. So, the unique part of the shark is
that it is actually blind but still is scient.
The shark does not have any technique to find food
as its organs cannot support the actions that are
required, so that is why it has a thing that hangs
from the eye which helps the shark smell foods miles away. Due to the lack of some required
organs, they can eat anything they want. And because it lives in the depths of the sea, it lives
a very long and lonely life.

To conclude this article, I would like to send out a few depraved things happening to these
incredible creatures. Almost 100 million sharks are killed every year because our greediness.
If we continue this action, no shark would survive. Almost 800 whale sharks and 300 manta
rays converge on an area less than half a mile wide. I did say that we don’t have to worry
about sharks as they start recreating every day, but if illegal hunting and poaching continues,
I might have to take the statement back. So, let us allow these creatures to roam in the waters
freely.

THE END!!!

Corona Virus

The pandemic is increasing and decreasing in all over world. In India we had lockdown and
online classes. This covid has locked us in our homes. The pandemic started on 24 January,
2020 when covid came from China. Now the entire world is getting vaccinated, and India
got 100 crore vaccines. We thank all doctors to take care covid patient, because of covid so
many dead’s, symptom of covid are, fever, tiredness, cough and cold.

Due to covid we need to wear masks, and many
people have lost their jobs. Due to this pandemic
everyone is annoyed. Never go out without a mask.

Please take precaution such as wash your hands.
 Wear a mask
 Wear a gloves
 Social distancing

Measure your temperature always
 Sanitize your hand before touching anything.
 Please follow the precautions.
 I hope everyone’s healthy, fit and fine.
 Stay healthy, stay safe!
 Rudhrani Santosh Rasputra, VIII B

Doctors Are Our Protectors

'Who are doctors? What do they do for us?'
A doctor is an individual who is experienced and certified to practice medicine. He/she
diagnoses medical difficulties and successfully treats illnesses or injuries. This is what they
used to do but after the pandemic struck the world like a ghoul hungry for souls, their job
and daily routine has changed. Now doctors have to risk their lives for the sake of ours.
Have you ever wondered what difficulties they face? What do they sacrifice so that they can
treat patients with covid-19?
PROBLEMS THAT RESTRICT THEIR FREEDOM
Most of us complain about how wearing a mask can be suffocating or how wearing layers of
clothes on a hot day is inconvenient. Doctors, on the other hand, have to wear a mask all
day long and wear layers of protective gear so that the patients and the doctor himself is
safe. A doctor meets patients with covid-19; this means he/she could be infected with the
disease. They have a lot of pressure on their shoulders and the trust of all patients and their
respective families. The balance between personal and professional life is 10:90.
PROBLEMS AND RISKS THAT THEY FACE.
As one who is responsible for saving the life of others and making sure they get all the
treatments required so that the patient can live a happy and healthy life, the doctor has to
stretch himself even though that means that the doctor himself can't meet their own
families. This means that they can't meet their family for weeks even months; sometimes

42 |Shri Darpan

the young ones have to spend their day without a mother or father. The doctors have to
work day and night so that they can help the people suffering from covid-19.
They spend years coming up with a vaccine and protocols that we must follow. They have
told us what to do and how we can remain healthy during this difficult period.

WHAT SHOULD WE GIVE THEM?
Doctors have done so much for us and showed
great grit, and many times we have not said thank
you to them. Nowadays people who want to
become doctors have decreased, a recent survey
stated that only 19% of people were interested in
becoming doctors.
Becoming a doctor means many lives would
depend on you; while that may sound like a big risk, the happiness and satisfaction one can
get from saving another's life is equivalent to that of Mount Everest. A patient once said,
"Not all angles need to have wings they can have stethoscopes as well."

Doctors - A Gift from God

Doctors are truly a gift from God; without them who knows where the economy and the
people of the world would be today. When we get sick, we go to them, when we are in pain,
we go to them. They protect us, cure us and help us. What they do for us is unimaginable!
They go through so much to keep us safe.
CHALLENGES THEY FACE…
During this pandemic time, masks have become an essential part of our lives. Imagine
wearing two masks and a sweaty PVP suit and a face shield. Yes, doctors need to wear all
this! They feel suffocated but they do it for us. They have 48 hours long, difficult, complex
surgeries which disturbs their sleep schedule, but they endure it.
CORONA Attack!
During this pandemic, doctors were our only hope. They were exposed to the virus, risked
their lives and the lives of their families to save others. They had to stay away from their
families to protect them. The exhausted, helpless doctors were trying their level best to keep
the sinking help system afloat. This traumatic tragedy called Covid also disturbed their
mental health. Calling them ‘heroes’ doesn’t protect them from psychological trauma.
BALANCE OF PROFEESIONAL AND PERSONAL LIFE….
Long hours of work, sacrificing family time and personal interests are a part of a doctor’s life.
An American medical association survey showed that 92% of doctors aged 35 or younger felt
that work-life balance is very important. The work-life balance of a doctor is 10:6. Many
doctors have stated that becoming a 'virtual parent’ is very depressing and they feel guilty
for not spending time with their kids.
For all that doctors do for us, there is nothing enough to thank them. Doctors were, are, and
always will be the backbone of the society no matter what. Thank you Doctors!

An Interview with Dr. Navodaya Gilla

Dr Navodaya Gilla is Consultant General Medicine in CARE hospitals. He has
Qualified as Diplomat of National Board (DNB) or equivalent of M.D in general
medicine. I got an opportunity to interview him and find his opinion about the current
pandemic.

Why did he choose the medical profession?

He chose this occupation as in his early age he had seen many of his schoolmates and friends

become sick and not get the right help. Also, his father was running a medical shop because
of which he already knew a lot about medicine(s). He thought he could help patients with his
knowledge and love for medicine.

What are the challenges faced by him during this pandemic?

He faced many problems including uncertainty about the reasons for

the start or spread of corona and how to cure it. He was also scared

that his family might be exposed to danger as they might be affected

because of him getting exposed to the virus.
He along with his team worked day and night on corona to cure

patients with symptoms of Corona and came up with a list of

precautions that Doctors need to take. He was also sad and disturbed
as he was not able to spend time with his family. He was also very
worried and tense to learn about the 10 million cases and 150 thousand deaths only in India.
He and his team regularly read lot of medical journals & discuss internally to perfect the

procedure for cure and familiarize themselves with latest trends in taking care of patients.

How did he manage treatment for Corona initially?

Initially the medical fraternity were completely blank and had no idea of what to do against

corona and how to cure it. Slowly, they got to know more about corona as the patients were
coming and knowledge from other countries, medical journals and articles were published

about the virus. They also got a lot of insights by getting to know more about the symptoms

and causes which helped them build confidence and prepare the treatment approach. As they
started treating the first few infected patients, they learnt a lot which helped in building their

confidence. The confidence and experience helped them to treat the other patients
successfully.

How useful were Masks in controlling the spread of Corona?

He said that masks are functional and over 90% useful if they are used in the right way. The

masks should not be overused and cleaned after every use and disposed of properly as per the

standard procedures. Coupled with other precautionary methods like washing hands, using
sanitizers etc., we will be able to minimize the spread of corona.

When do I get a test for Corona?

You are supposed to get a test for corona if you have symptoms such as cold, cough, fever, body pains, head

ache, weakness, loose motions, breathlessness for more than 2 days for aged people, if they have a few of the

symptoms, we must get them checked at once as they are vulnerable.

Final Message about next steps around Corona

The advice is prevention & precautions are the best way to handle corona. We must use the

precautionary measures such as masks, frequent usage of hand sanitizers, avoid crowded

places and keep social distancing. Also, it is recommended to consult a physician or doctor at
the earliest if any of the symptoms are seen. Finally, stay away from rumors and do not

believe them. - Inesh Chikatimarla, VIII B

Blessing In My Life

Self-defence is not a choice, it is a need! The need of the hour for any child is to develop
courage to face anyone who could harm them. In this world where kidnapping & rape
happens at lightning speed, we should know how to protect ourselves.
Martial art as a teacher
Martial art is a teacher in itself. It has taught me to respect myself and others. Not only
does it increase our strength, stamina, concentration and flexibility but also improves our
self-discipline, confidence and self-esteem. I am currently a black belt holder after 5 years of
training. I am currently learning as well as teach kids in lower levels. Due to this my
leadership skills have also improved. I have learnt that a real fighter is not measured by
how many times he/she wins but how many times he/she stands up after falling.

Martial art – my inspiration
At first, I didn’t know much about taekwondo. To be
frank, I joined the classes because my friends were also
joining. Being a female didn’t stop me from doing a
martial art. It created a fire inside me, to achieve more
than what I thought I was capable of. Now, it has
changed my life completely.

My role- models
The main reason for my continued interest in
Taekwondo is due to my 2 masters - Master Vijay and Master Ramesh. I started training
under Master Ramesh in Chennai, but when my family moved to Hyderabad, I felt happy
that my parents were able to continue my training under Master Vijay. They have been my
role models for grit and courage. They correct me whenever needed and motivate me a lot.
They give me advice on how to keep myself physically and mentally fit. They are ‘gurus’ in
the true sense of the word. In future, I want to become a Taekwondo teacher and inspire
many more.

Schools and martial art
All schools should incorporate martial arts in their curriculum. Many schools don’t
incorporate it as they think martial art teaches students how to fight, however it teaches us
why not to fight unnecessarily. The person who has practised one kick 10,000 times has
more endurance than a person who has practiced 10,000 kicks once. This shows the
importance of practice until you become perfect.
I was proud, am proud and will be proud of being a Taekwondo student.

My Role model

“No one will protect what they don’t care about, and no one will care about what they
have never experienced,” said a great man. Born in Iselworth, England to Frederic and
Mary, 95-year-old David Attenborough is in my view the greatest man alive.

I have a very unusual obsession with animals and share a lot of things in common with
Sir David. Maybe that’s why he is my idol.

Sir David (as most people call him) completed his first world tour at the age of 22
and has done the world tour 4 times in his life. He has also seen and researched over
40,000 species of animals so far. He has also got into the Guinness book of world
records by ‘appearing most frequently in television’. He has also got a record for
being the most followed on Instagram though he could not hold that for much
longer. He has written many books about wildlife and sustainability. He has got
many diamond moments in his life like when he filmed a blue whale and made it
possible for the common to see it up close. He has also seen the last living Giant
tortoise days before its death. There are countless such achievements to his credit.

I consider Sir David Attenborough as my inspiration mainly because of his wildlife
excavations and love for nature. Through his documentaries and lessons, I how
understood how important nature and animals are for human existence. I have also
learnt a lot from the values that he has lived and demonstrated through his work. He
shows what is important in life and how to take steps to achieve success. I really
appreciate his hard work for the betterment of nature and in highlighting the
importance of wildlife in the life of human beings.

I have recommended his documentaries to some of my friends, and now I can spot a
drastic change in the way they view wildlife and nature. Most of my friends feared
animals and reptiles but now they have overcome that fear.

This is why I chose Sir David as my inspiration in life and I promise to follow his path
till the end. I hope you will inspire many more people their journey!

Messi- The Embodiment of Grit and Courage

When Lionel Messi was 13, he was diagnosed with a disease that caused his bones to be small
and fragile. This obstacle, however, would not let his dream of being a professional footballer
be littered in his reveries as debris. Despite his disease, he worked hard towards his goal and
has become the best player to ever walk the pitch in the rough game of football

49 |Shri Darpan

Messi joined the junior team of FC Barcelona in the year 2000 at the age of 13. Since then,
he has been fouled hundreds of times, injured badly countless times but he never let that stop
him. If he falls, he gets back up and continues. If he is injured, he gets back on the pitch within
two to three weeks no matter how bad the injury is. He never dives and always plays fairly.
He controls his emotions and never lets any defeat get inside his head.
He is always confident and never thinks that he will fail. He never gave up on his dreams and
didn’t let his friends do so either. He always supports his teammates and has given many easy
goal chances to his teammates who were not at their peak to boost their confidence. He passes
and creates easy chances even when he has a clear shot at the goal. He has boosted his
teammates confidence, often at the cost of his hat tricks or milestones. He truly is a team
player and a great leader.
Lionel Andres Messi has been a role model of grit, courage and hard work for me and has
inspired me to do better than I ever thought I could.
